(Part Two:)
"Machi? Machi?" Yuki replied as she blinked a few times, "Are you all right you haven't spoken for at least five minutes?"
"I" she stuttered, "Did you say what I think you said?"
"Yes" he nodded confused by her look, "I love you."
Machi turned around and sighed heavily and sadly.
"Then I must ask you to leave."
"What?"
"I want you to go Yuki. I want you to go now."
"But" he took a step forward.
"Go! Leave!" she said forcefully stepping toward him, making him back up outside, "Just go" she closed the door on his face.
Yuki stared stunned at the door while on the other side Machi held her head in her hands. She cried as she ran upstairs to her room, and slammed the door shut. Her father came out of his studio.
"Machi? What on earth? Who was at the door honey?" he asked looking around him.
Yuki stared down at the ground and then left the front porch with his head bent. He walked slowly down the street and bumped into someone.
"Yuki what are you doing here?" Kakeru Manabe asked him surprised.
"Hello Kakeru" Yuki said with no emotion in his voice, "I was just leaving. I'll see you tomorrow at school. Good bye" he walked past very fast.
"Yuki!" Kakeru called but Yuki ignored him.
He just continued to walk down the sidewalk towards home. Kakeru watched him confused as ever, but then shrugged his shoulders and walked into the house.
"Hey dad" he replied when he saw his father, "What's going on?"
"Were you the one who was at the door?" Mr. Kuragi asked.
"No. It must have been Yuki."
"Oh I see. That's weird. Because your sister went to answer it, and then I didn't see her anymore."
"Well where is she?"
"Probably upstairs. I heard her door slam when she went up there."
"Hmm?" Kakeru frowned remembering Yuki's reaction, "I'll go up and talk to her."
"All right" Mr. Kuragi nodded, "I'm gonna be in the studio."
"Sure" Kakeru agreed climbing the steps.

Kakeru crossed the hallway and knocked on Machi's door.
"Machi can I come in? It's Kakeru."
"It's open" she replied and he opened the door.
"Hey" he said as he stepped in, "Are you all right?"
"I. I'm not sure" she replied as she left her dressing table and walked over to her bed.
"Because it's a funny thing, I just saw Yuki leaving. And he didn't look too good. Did you guys have a fight or something?"
"No."
"Well what is it? You can tell me" he sat down next to him, "Did he say something mean to you?" his voice became angry.
"No quite the opposite" she shook her head, "He said something sweet. Something every girl likes to hear. But I can't. I can't put another person through this. I just can't."
"Through what Machi?" then his eyes became wide, "You don't mean that he."
"I just can't" she repeated, "I won't put him through it. I want allow him to suffer anymore then he already has. I can never forgive myself if he did."
"I understand. I understand completely" Kakeru allowed her to lay her head on his shoulder.
"I'm glad that you're here brother. I needed to talk somebody."
"Always. No matter what mother says. I will always be your brother."
(Next Scene)
The next afternoon during break time Kakeru walked down the hall toward the Student Council office, where he was certain that he would be. As he opened the door he realized he was right. Yuki was sitting at his desk, his eyes bent over the task he was doing, and a frown on his face. He looked up as he entered the room.
"I didn't expect to see you this afternoon Kakeru, what are you doing here?"
"Oh I uh have some business to take care of. What are you doing here?" Kakeru said seriously.
"Same thing" Yuki nodded noticing Kakeru's straightforward face.
"Then I suggest we get started" he closed the door.
"What?" Yuki looked at him confused.
"Yuki, did you tell Machi that you love her?"
Yuki stared into his eyes surprised.
"Did you?" he repeated.
"Yes" Yuki nodded, "But it doesn't matter. She obviously doesn't feel the same way."
"Did you mean it?" Kakeru asked hopefully.
"What difference does it make?"
"It makes a whole lot of a difference if you meant it."
"Yes I meant it" Yuki replied bitterly, "I never say anything I don't mean. You know that. But like I said what does it matter?"
"Then since you're being so honest with me, I got to be honest with you. I admit I didn't like it very much when you were talking with her a lot and when you got closer. But then my father told me how much you make her smile, and how happy she was when she was around you. And I noticed it myself, that was when I decided I would be so happy if the two of you got together."
Yuki listened intently as he continued.
"Yuki as her brother, I'm very protective of her. It's true we didn't grow up together. But I knew about her and still loved her just the same. I love her even more now, because I actually know her. I want the best for her. And to be honest you are the best. Out of all the guys I have ever known, you really are top notch. You would be good for her and I think she would be good for you. So I'm asking you. No I'm begging you. Don't give up on her yet."
"Kakeru" Yuki said slowly, "I appreciate what you are trying to say. But it's no good. She's already rejected me. She doesn't like me. I think the best thing for me would be to walk away with grace and dignity."
"You don't understand Yuki" Kakeru stood in front, "She's not saying that she doesn't like you."
"What?"
"She didn't push you away, because she doesn't feel the same. She pushed you away because" Kakeru sighed, "Because she doesn't want you to get hurt."
"I don't understand."
"Yuki, I think Machi's afraid that the same thing will happen all over again."
Yuki sat down as Kakeru sat down in another chair.
"Go on."
"When Machi was thirteen she was quite popular with all her friends, and my mother was grooming her to become the clan leader. But because of this task, my mother alienated her from her friends, saying they were beneath her. Much like me. She lost all of them because of that."
"I had no idea."
"No there's more" Kakeru held up his hand, "And please let me finish, so you can understand completely where I am coming from."
Yuki nodded and Kakeru continued.
"It was during this time that Machi met a boy. Actually she had known since they were kids, but they never really spoke much. They were so close. I had never seen her so happy. The truth is I wasn't supposed to see her at all, but my dad would let me see her, once and a while. But once more my mother got into the picture and one day just weeks after he told her that he loved her, he ditched her. Now at first Machi didn't understand why, till she spoke to my mother. As it turned out, my mother had spoken to him privately and said that Machi felt the things that she felt, and that she never wanted to see him again. Which wasn't true, but he believed my mother anyway. So he ditched her and a couple of days later, hooked up with one of her old friends right in front of her."
Yuki closed his eyes sadly.
"You see Yuki, Machi doesn't want you to get hurt, the same way that boy did. And all her friends. She doesn't want you to end up that way. But if you really love her, then go back. Find a way to convince her that she isn't going to lose you."
Yuki stood up and walked over to Kakeru placing a hand on his shoulder and smiling.
"Thank you Kakeru, for telling me this. I will speak with her this afternoon."
Kakeru smiled back.
(Next Scene)
After school Machi walked home silently with her head bent. As she approached her house she saw Yuki strolling up to her.
"Yuki? What are you doing here?"
"I had to talk to you" he replied.
"We have nothing to say to each other. I gave you my answer."
"No you didn't" he shook his head angrily, "You just told me to leave."
"I think that should have been answer enough."
"Machi" Yuki stepped forward and leaned into her face, "If you can look me in the eye right now and tell me you don't have any feelings for me. I will walk away and never look back. I promise I will. Just tell me the truth. And I'll go."
Machi looked deep into his eyes and tears started to fall.
"I can't."
"You can't what?"
"I can't say that. Because that's not true. But Yuki."
"Then that's it. That's all I needed to hear. Now I want you to hear something" he took her hands, "Out of all the people in the world I have ever known, no one has ever touched me the way you do. It's true for a while I had a crush on Miss Honda. But it wasn't love. I know what love is now. I know what I feel in my heart."
"I'm not good enough for you."
"Shouldn't I be the judge of that?"
"All those girls at school. You could have anybody. Someone who adores you."
"I don't want someone who adores me. I want someone who understands me. Someone who I can talk to and share my feelings with. I want someone who knows the real me, and not the fake prince façade I show at school. I want you Machi and only you. No one else could ever take your place."
"Yuki. I. I don't know what to say."
"I'm not going anywhere" he replied, "You can't get rid of me that easily" he smiled, "You're stuck with me, I'm afraid."
"Yuki" she smiled as she held onto his hand, "Do you really mean that?"
"Yes" he nodded, "Every word."
"Then I think it's only fair for me to tell you how I feel."
He nodded.
"I love you Yuki."
"I know" he smiled, "I just wanted to hear you say it," he laughed and she began to laugh along with him as the sun set behind them.
From where he stood Kakeru watched the whole scene and smiled in relief. Then he walked up the road whistling a tune that had been stuck in his head all day long.
