Ghost Story – Ch. 3: Savior

(Disclaimer: see prologue.)

POV: Kagome

-

I could feel the sweat on my forehead. I was frozen to the spot beside a painting of some lady. I was fully aware of a corner behind me. Why couldn't I run?

Sesshoumaru was looking down the other hall. Sniffing, for me probably. Then his head turned and I gasped.

POV: Sesshoumaru

I gave Inuyasha a look. "What are you doing?" I asked calmly. He was just standing there beside a portrait of his disgusting mother.

"None of your business!" he spat. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I could still smell the cherry blossoms. It was coming from near Inuyasha and it didn't take me too long to figure out it was the portrait.

I groaned to myself. Something was wrong with me. Kagome is dead. She's not here anymore. I shot Inuyasha one last look before turning back and down the hall.

I sighed. He was such a stiff. I turned and looked at Kyoko. She was staring at the spot Sesshoumaru had been, wide-eyed.

I raised an eyebrow. "What?" She blinked and gathered up her senses, glaring at me. "What was the point of that?" She hissed.

Sheesh what an ungrateful little….

"I just saved you from being found by Sesshoumaru. Where's the thank you?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

She just rolled her eyes. "I didn't need your help."

"Yeah you did. You were just standing there when I found you. Do you know how dangerous my half-brother is?"

"I do and I can take care of myself."

It was a rhetorical question. I didn't expect her to answer that. So she lived around here if she knew about my half-brother. For some reason she seemed like an out-of-town girl to me.

"I gotta go." She stated, and then began to walk away. I snorted. "Do you even know where you're going???" I smirked when Kyoko stopped walking. Her fist slowly clenched and unclenched.

She was thinking. Should she trust me or not? Well what was not to trust?! At least I'm not Miroku. Then she'd have a reason to have her doubts. But me?? What's so distrusting about me?

Kyoko let out a sigh of defeat and turned to face me. She stared me right in the eye and said, "Show me out. Then I never want to see you again."

Damn her.

POV: Kagome

Inuyasha lead me out of the mansion within a few minutes. Some of the things I recognized, and some I didn't. The walk was quiet but not awkward. I think Inuyasha knew I didn't want to talk to him.

As we walked however, I was nervous. What if Sesshoumaru decided to show up again? What happened back there was just so shocking.

I would never admit this to Inuyasha (as if I'd talk to him ever again) but I was thankful. So many things could've gone wrong if Sesshoumaru found me.

Before I knew it, we were at the front of the door. "Leave," Inuyasha said, quite curtly.

"Gladly," I responded. I threw open the door with such force that I couldn't help but giggle when it slammed into Inuyasha's face. He had been thinking and didn't see it coming.

"AHH!! MY NOSE!! YOU MOTHER &$#! LITTLE #$! I'M GONNA GET YOU FOR THAT!!!!!!!"

As if. "Sayonara dog face." I waved and ran off the property, leaving Inuyasha with a bleeding nose.

I walked along the street, craving for a sweater. After all, I was wearing a tank top and it was winter. At least the snow wasn't falling yet.

I wasn't sure where I should go. I didn't have money so I couldn't stay at a hotel. I didn't want to look like a hobo and hide out in some box.

I could always go to my grandfather's temple. My mother's mansion was up a hill and I was not going to go all the way up there without a taxi or a limo. The temple was the only thing closest to me.

I wondered who was running the temple. My grandfather passed away years ago. However, I never saw him in heaven. Perhaps he was sleeping. Yeah that was it.

The temple was only a few blocks past the super market. I shivered and wrapped my arms around my shoulders. Jeez I could die all over again from pneumonia.

As I passed the super market's entrance, I collided with another body. I screamed and fell on my ass.

Whoever I had run into was in a hurry. It was a young lady wearing a long khaki jacket, black pants, and a baby blue turtleneck. She had long black hair thrown up into a messy ponytail and chocolate-brown eyes.

The girl offered me a hand. "I'm so sorry! I was just in such a hurry I guess I wasn't really watching where I was going. Oh it's my entire fault, please forgive me! I really didn't mean to send you down like that. Well of course my groceries helped but that's not the point. Here just take my hand and I'm sooo sorry.." The girl babbled on and on about forgiveness.

I refused to take her hand. I knew who she was. I stood up myself and brushed myself off.

"You look cold. It's winter and you're wearing a tank top, silly! You also look like you need help. Hey I know! Why don't you come over to my place??? I can tell when someone's in need of a place to stay, it's just intuition. My apartment is small but it can house two people! I insist you come with me," Rin smiled.
