Disclaimer: I am obviously not Tolkien, but I kiss the ground he walked on...well...if I were there I would...anyway..
He stood silently just inside the door, wanting just a moment to plant this image into his memory before he was noticed.
The morning sun was shining its first golden rays through the tall windows, casting a soft light into the room. Along the southern wall, the heavy oak four-poster that had once been locked up with the rest of his mother's belongings was laden with pillows and rich colored blankets. Propped up in the center of all of this was his very beautiful, very tired looking wife.
Her long pale hair had been plaited by his own nervous hands sometime the night before. Her eyelids had started to droop in exhaustion, though it was obvious she was fighting it. Her attention was focused on the baby cradled against her breast. A tiny fist was opening and closing, small fingers clenching at the air.
He made no noise, but she suddenly became aware of his presence and her steel blue eyes met his, smiling tiredly. "Come in and see your son."
He crossed the room noiselessly and took a seat on the edge of the bed next to his wife. Their son continued to grab the air in his slumber, undaunted by the movement about him. "He's perfect, Eowyn. Absolutely perfect."
She smiled, "Yes. He looks like you, Faramir. So serious." Her slender fingers brushed the infant's scrunched up brow.
Faramir smiled, "Valar knows we need another serious person in this family."
"Well, we do have to balance out my brother and your cousins. Serious is not the word I would put to any of them at first thought."
"True. What shall we name our serious son then, Eowyn?"
Eowyn let her eyes drift shut for a moment and the looked into her husband's grey stare, "Elboron. To honor your brother who was, without intention, part of the beginning of all that led to our son. So now, mayhaps, a bit of him will live on in his nephew."
Faramir was moved beyond words so he let his actions speak as he leaned in to kiss his wife gently and then bent to brush his lips along the infant's forehead, "Welcome to Ithilien, Elboron."
