Botan stepped up the apartment door and rang the doorbell a few times. After hearing the muffled, obnoxious buzzing sound from behind the door there was a growl and a "Hold your horse's! I'm coming!" shouted.

"At least we know she's home," Keiko grinned.

After dragging Eris through endless stores and not finding anything remotely likeable (at least nothing Botan or Keiko liked, Eris had found plenty), they'd abandoned the mall in defeat. Halfway back to the temple, Keiko had remembered she'd forgotten to pick something up from the Kuwabara's apartment and here they were.

A disgruntled woman in her twenties, longish brown hair and a cigarrete hanging on her lip, opened the door and ushered them all in. Eris, a bit shyly, followed the older girls.

"Hey Shizuru! He wasn't any trouble was he? I know Yusuke was a bit…weird this morning," Keiko grinned. "Oh! This is Eris-chan by the way. She's staying at Genkai's with Kurama for a bit until we can figure out how to get her back home."

"Actually I haven't seen the little runt since her started getting a little too friendly with the couch, if you know what I mean. Do I even want to know what Yusuke was up to?" Shizuru gave Eris a smile and switched her speech to English, "An American, eh? Then I'm guessing you know quite a bit bout us already."

The other three occupants of the living room looked at her in surprise.

"Shizuru, you knew?" Botan asked, canting her head to the side.

She shrugged, blowing out a ring of smoke as she headed into the kitchen. "It's called the internet. I was waiting to see how long it would take the rest of you to notice, but obviously I'm the only one in this room without a life. You guys want anything to drink?"

Eris laughed and sat herself onto the couch, taking notice of the strewn about videogames. She always had liked Shizuru, especially for her choice in pants instead of skimpy skirts and whatnot.

"No, we're fi-AH!"

"Keiko! You alright?" Eris twisted herself around to address her friend.

"Aww man," she winced and bent down. "I stepped on Puu."

Eris was sure she heard the girl wrong. "…poo?"

"Puu!" Keiko hopped up, said blue spirit beast in her arms looking disgruntled at being stepped on. He raised his floppy ears in annoyance.

"Puu!" he exclaimed rather huffily.

"I think you pissed him off," Eris squinted at the creature with a smirk. This just kept getting better and better. "What's he doing here?"

"I dropped him off here last night so Yusuke and I could be alone on our date," she scratched the back of her neck. "I guess I sorta forgot about him."

"Puu!!" Puu chirped again and used his ears to fly out of Keiko's arms, landing promptly on top of Eris' head.

"Well," she snorted, trying not to laugh along with Botan and Keiko. "I now know what it's like to be Yusuke."

"There he is," Shizuru stepped out from the kitchen, glass of liquor in hand and new cigarette in the other. "He knocked over my plants and broke a pot. He's too cute to stay mad at though."

"Just like Yusuke himself, right Keiko?" Botan giggled.

"Yeah," she hid her smile behind a hand.

"He's not going to stay up there forever…is he?" Eris questioned, trying to look up at the thing on her head.

"Probably. Puu seems to like you," Botan grinned.

Speaking of people seeming to like you… Keiko thought mischievously. "Oi, Shizuru. Maybe you could help us with a little dilemma we're having."

"Sure. What seems to be the problem?"

"Eris can't find any kimono patterns she likes and-"

"I can't find any patterns? I saw about 20 that would have had me a happy giggling nut."

"Puu!"

Keiko ignored her. And Puu. "Anyway, you wouldn't happen to have any old kimono's lying around would you? I think I remember seeing a silver one in your closet."

"Ohh!" Botan's eyes sparkled. "I remember that one! It was so pretty! You still have it, right Shizuru-san?"

She sipped her drink in thought. "Possibly. Maybe. I dunno, we might as well go look, right?"

Without another word, Botan and Keiko zipped past her and through the small halls of the apartment. Shizuru and Eris just shook their heads.

"Puu! Puu!!" Puu flapped is ears to keep his balance.

"Oops, sorry Puu," Eris smirked, highly amused with the spirit beast as she stood up and followed the whispers and giggles.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say they were up to something," Kuwabara's elder sister murmured ahead of her. "Are they trying to set you up with somebody or what?"

Eris rolled her eyes and sighed. "Yes. You'd think they'd try and make it a little less obvious."

"Eh, some people just lack tact I guess," she blew out a stream of smoke and shrugged a shoulder. "So who's the lucky candidate?"

"Kurama," Eris couldn't help but smile.

"Ooh, nice!" Shizuru laughed. "Ah, if only I was a bit younger…"

Eris snorted. "You do realize he's actually over a thousand years old?"

"Hey, I have seen The Youko. If he can still look like that after a thousand years-what the hell are you two doing?"

The brown and blue-haired culprits stood amidst their rampage of tossed clothing and grinned sheepishly.

"Jeez, what did my pants ever do to you?" Shizuru smirked and threw a pair at Botan who laughed.

"Sorry Shizuru-san. I guess we went a little out of control…"

Eris quirked an eyebrow. "A little?"

"Puu!"
"Well, we found it!" Keiko smiled and started slowly forward.

"You're not going to attack me again…are you?"

"Yeah they are," Shizuru smirked. "Better get to running now, I'll see if I can hold them off."

"Oh would you two stop?" Botan crossed her arms and tried to look annoyed.

Keiko mimicked her taller friend. "We aren't nearly that bad!"

"Oh yeah? What's this?" Eris held up her arm where a long red scrape from a nail ran from her elbow to just below her wrist. "That's a battle scar that is!!"

"Puu!!"

Shizuru laughed. "I think that means 'yeah you crazy b-'"

"I love how it's just normal for him to be up there," Eris snickered, looking up at the little yellow feet just out of her vision. "I don't see what Yusuke's problem is. He's a very fashionable hat, wouldn't you say?"

Keiko peered at Puu who stared back with his little black eyes. "I think he's got some sort of mind control thing…"

Puu blinked. "Puu?"

"No, I'm sure it's just the overload of cuteness," Botan laughed. "I can't believe he's supposed to be a reflection of 'the inner Yusuke.'"

"Hey! Yusuke can be very cute and sweet," Keiko defended.

"When he has a goal in mind," the ferry girl muttered innocently.

"I heard that!" Keiko whapped her upper arm. "At least he hasn't been running around in diapers for centuries."

"What!"

Eris laughed. "You have to admit, teenage Koenma is pretty cute."

"I'm with Eris-chan on that," Shizuru agreed, an idea forming. "What do you think Botan?"

"Nani?? I-I guess…"

The other girls snickered and watched Botan's cheeks turn pink.

"Come on! We'd better get going. The boys are probably wondering where we are."

"Suure, whatever you say Botan!"

"Puu!"

"Haha, I think he just called you a Koenma lover!!"

"I think that's just wishful thinking on your part."

"Or maybe yours," Eris laughed and jumped back a step as Botan let an arm loose and moved out the door. "Hey! Watch it! You'll hurt Puu."

"Alright, alright, let's get moving here. We've got the kimono and accessories from the mall so we should be set," Keiko shoved Eris out the door after Botan. "Are you coming with us, Shizuru?"

"Yeah, might as well. I was planning on coming over to pick up the little brother later anyway. Plus you might need an extra hand to take up that kimono," she grinned and followed her guests out to Keiko's car.

------------------------------------------- (This line thing better effing work!! is seriously starting to piss Sessha off!!)

"Hey! Stop cheating Urameshi!"

"I ain't cheating! You're just bad!"

"What the hell do you call using your spirit energy to switch the blocks faster? That's not in the rules!!"

"Shut up, I'm being resourceful!!"

"What are you two arguing about now?" Botan asked, the group of girls entering the room and setting bags of things on the floor.

"He's cheating!"

"Am not! He's just a big whiner."

"What're you playing?" Eris peered at the screen. "This looks like-"

"Tetris Attack!"

All the girls rolled their eyes, except for Eris who grinned.

"Dude! I used to play this all the time! Move over!!" she plopped down and plugged in a controller.

Yusuke smirked. "Heh. Alright! Prepare to be shut down!"

"Maybe, maybe not. Keiko, get ready to have him sobbing in your arms!"

"Oh you wish!"

"Keh. I'll be the one making both of you cry!" Kuwabara cracked his knuckles, ready for the Tetris battle.

"Ah, I think not," Shizuru caught her brother by the ear. "Somebody didn't help with the house cleaning this morning, so you'll be the one crying when we get home!"

"Aww, c'mon sis!" Kuwabara whined, giving his sister ineffective puppy eyes. "Give me a break, I was splitting evil demon skulls this morning and couldn't get back. Let go of my ear!"

Shizuru let him go, a small smirk on her face. "You've got double duty then, Kazuma. Have fun while you can!"

Kuwabara pouted then glared at Eris and Yusuke who were snickering. "Shut up-hey…" he pointed dumbly at Eris. "Did you know you've got Puu on your head?"

Eris blinked. "Yes. I am the Puu head. Now let's play already!"

"I'll warn you right now chibi onna," Yusuke smirked at her glare. "I am the Tetris master!"

"Well then, Tetris master…" Eris stretched her arms and settled with her controller at the ready. "You shall taste my Yoshi's wrath!!"

"PLAYER ONE: PRESS START."

Yusuke obeyed the text on the screen and so began the games. After 3 hours and 20 minutes, they were still at it with Yusuke at 6 games won and Eris with 7. Kuwabara had dropped out after the seventh one complaining about "geeks with no lives." Of course he managed to rack up only 2 games, so maybe it was just jealousy.

Genkai walked through the room, shaking her grey-pink head at her former student and Eris. "Dimwit, you're still playing?"

Yusuke didn't look away from the screen, only squinted more in the fading light of the day and fingers flying over the controller. "Uh huh."

Eris cursed loudly; she'd messed up the sequence that would have won her the game. "Can't. Stop."

"Have either of you even moved?"

They both shook their heads and answered: "No."

" Constant vigilance! The slightest movement could result in a loss…" Eris muttered like a zombie, switching four pairs of blocks in the blink of an eye and grinning as she neared the blinking line. Suddenly flinging out her arm, she poked Yusuke in the arm, causing him to falter.

Eris switched a last pair of purple blocks and the words on the screen declared her the winner. She laughed and grinned. "See, like that for example!"

Yusuke growled. "You cheater!! That's it, rematch! Right now!!"

Genkai laughed in her raspy way. "You never were much of a strategist."

He rounded on her. "You wanna come over here and say that? Eh, grandma?!"

"Bring it on, slacker," the old woman picked up Kuwabara's old controller.

"Heh, this'll be a snap. I'll beat both of you in one sweep!"

"Shut up and start the effing game already!" Eris shook out her sore hands. "I wouldn't be too confident either, boyo."

With an arrogant sniff, Yusuke pressed start. "Watch and learn, chibi onna!"

Eris grinned as six blue blocks popped. "What was that?"

"YEAH! WINNER: PLAYER 3!!"

Two controllers clattered to the floor. Yusuke and Eris stared, disbelievingly with their mouths hanging open.

"But-"

"That's-"

"I-"

"Adda-"

"Wibba-"

"You think I'd own a game without having mastered it?" Genkai grinned and stood up to leave.

"Wow," Eris watched her leave. "We walked right into that…"

"Yeah, we did," he grinned as Eris massaged her fingers. "Of course I still beat you."

She looked up with hell in her eyes. "What?!"

"PUU!"

"AHH!" Eris fell backwards, making Puu flap his ears to fly. She clutched at her heart and went limp on the floor. "Geez, I forgot he was up there…I think he planned that! It's something you would do!"

Yusuke pointed and laughed at her, until Puu settled himself on the spirit detective's gelled head. "Get off me you blue chicken!"

"Puu puu puu!"

"What's with all the noise?" Kurama entered, looking around curiously.

"We've just been had by Genkai," Eris stood up, wincing as both knees cracked.

"Yeah, you know, the pissy old lady with too much time on her hands?" Yusuke grabbed Puu off of his head and put him on the floor.

Kurama smiled, "I see. Have you eaten yet?"

The sound of an angry monster pillaging a village sounded from somewhere in the room. Eris laughed nervously and held her stomach. "Ehehe…"

"I'll take that as a 'no.' Come, everyone's been waiting for both of you," he said and led them to the dining room.

A low table set with dishes and dishes of food sat in the middle of a circle of tatami mats, most with their friends sitting on them and already filling their plates and bowls.

"Finally!" Keiko smiled as they came in. "I was starting to think you'd be playing that silly game forever!"

"Here, here!" Botan laughed.

Before she knew it, Eris was sitting and sipping a delicious bowl of egg drop soup between mouthfuls of rice and shrimp. She laughed along with everyone, joking endlessly and eating to her hearts content. Her stomach felt starved!

"I can't remember when I've eaten so much! Uhh…" she rubbed her stomach and sat back. "I think my hands are going to be suffering from carpal tunnel in a few years too."

"So you'll die ugly and old, like grandma here, of starvation and bad nerve endings. Not a completely bad way to go."

"Yusuke! Be nice!" Keiko poked him with her chopsticks.

"And you're going to die of being skewered with chopsticks for pissing off your wife. I think I got the better deal," Eris laughed.

"Let me get these dishes out of the way," Yukina began to clear the table.

Eris and Kurama simultaneously started gathering dishes to help. Pausing, they looked at one another, then laughed and continued.

Botan nudged Keiko and pointed towards the two. They grinned.

"That's so cute!" Keiko whispered.

"What're you two whispering about?" Yusuke raised a brow at them.

Keiko giggled and ruffled the tuft of hair on Puu's head. "Don't you think Eris-chan and Kurama would be cute together?"

He scratched his head and shrugged. "Sure, I guess. She's a cute kid."

"And smart too," Kuwabara threw in, gnawing on a fish bone.

"Everyone is smart to you Kuwabara," Yusuke rolled his eyes. Eris, Yukina, and Kurama exited to the kitchen with the dishes and extra food.

"Shut up! I'm just saying! We've never seen Kurama interested in a girl before. Usually he just nods and smiles at all those chicks that hang around him, so this is good right?"

"Oh my God…" Yusuke gasped.

"Yusuke! What is it?" Keiko asked, worried and grabbed his arm.

"Kuwabara just said something that made sense!"

"HEY!"

"All right, lay off guys," Shizuru stepped in. "Kazuma's right though. I like this girl. She's funny and not a flake. Eris-chan would be good for him."

"So we're all going to help this love blossom at the festival tomorrow night?" Boton smiled and laughed. "This is so exciting! I love playing matchmaker!"

--------------------------------------------(….meow!)

Eris looked towards the door with a raised eyebrow. "What's Botan so happy about?" she murmured to herself.

"She's a natural happy person," Yukina smiled slightly bowing in thanks for her help as she took the dishes and put them in the sink. "Did you have fun shopping with Keiko and Botan today? You look exhausted."

Eris smiled back. "Yeah, it was fun. Besides the constant pulling on the arms in 4 different directions at one time."

"They do tend to be a bit over enthusiastic at times," Kurama grinned.

"What did you do while we were gone?" Eris ran the sink water and began to wash, waving off Yukina when she started to object. "I helped dirty them, I can help wash them."

Kurama laughed softly as he watched the two girls work. "Nothing terribly interesting. Checked on my mother, without her knowledge of course, and contacted Koenma."

Eris' ears perked up. "Do you come bearing good news?"

He shook his head. "Still nothing. All portals are busy and the demons seem to have disappeared completely."

"They'll be back won't they?" Yukina asked timidly.

Kurama's eyes went dark. "Yes, I believe they will."

"Ahh, but it's nothing for us to worry about right now. At least not too much anyway," Eris shrugged a shoulder. "Hey, how about you help dry instead of watching us like a creepy stalker?"

"When you put it that way…' he took the offered towel from a grinning Eris.

She thrust a slippery dish at him and went to work on the next one. "So. Where's Hiei? I haven't seen him since this afternoon."

"He usually comes around later and helps himself," Yukina sighed.

Eris chewed on the inside of her cheek. "You think he'll grace us with his presence at the festival tomorrow?"

"He might make an appearance," Kurama said coolly stacking the dry china neatly. It reminded him of his mother, Shiori, and how they used to wash the dishes together ever night after supper.

"You look happy," Eris smiled.

"Just remembering things. Before mother married Kazuyu we'd talk while we did the dishes."

"That's sweet," Yukina smiled also. "A family chore."

"Wish I had family chores," Eris murmured. "It'd definitely go a lot faster and be more fun. Well-nevermind. I'm rambling."

"It's pleasant," Yukina grinned and finished her last dish. "Usually it's so quiet without everyone here."

"Yes it is," Kurama agreed. "I dare say your life is more interesting than ours."

Eris laughed. "Ha! Right! That's funny, really it is."

He laughed quietly and flicked the rag at her. She grabbed it from him and stuck out her tongue as Yukina giggled at their banter.

"As much fun as I'm having, I think I should be going off to bed now. Long day tomorrow after all," the tiny ice demon yawned cutely and left them with a smile.

"I just noticed something," Eris mused, rubbing her bottom lip in ponderment.

"And what would that be?"

"She's taller than Hiei."

The two looked at each other for a brief moment before laughing mutually. After a while, Eris stretched her arms and yawned also.

"I should probably get some sleep too. I just know the hyper active ferry girl and her partner in crime are going to be having fun playing dolly again," she rolled her eyes with a smirk as he nodded in agreement with amusement in his eyes.

"I don't doubt that. Shall I walk you to your room? I sometimes even find myself lost in this temple."

"Would you?" she grinned and took his proffered arm. "She just loves anything that messes with your head doesn't she? Genkai, I mean."

"Indeed she does." They walked in comfortable silence through the dark corridors, now and then hearing a gale of laughter from the dining room or a shout from Kuwabara.

When she shivered a few times from the brisk wind as they wound around the temple porch to the portion where her room was located, he drew her closer to him, ignoring the slight heat in his own cheeks as well as hers. Arriving at her door, she reluctantly unwound her arm from his and smiled up at him.

"Thank you," she couldn't stop smiling; or look away from his eyes for that matter.

It seemed to be the same way for him. "Your welcome."

Do you have a roadmap? I keep getting lost in your eyes, came to mind. Eris blinked. God, that's a horrible pick up line…why the hell did I think of that??

"Something wrong?"

"Er…no, nothing. Good night!"

"Good night then," with a lasting smile he left her for the night.

Chewing on the inside of her cheek again, Eris entered her borrowed room and slid the door shut behind her, forcing herself not to fall against the wood and rice paper.

"Way to go genius…" she muttered and readied herself for bed. Only problem was, once she thought about it, she really wasn't all that tired.

------------------------------------------ (::yawn::)

Eris threw her blanket off in a huff. It was no use; she couldn't get to sleep.

"Damn time differences…" she mumbled crankily and sat up, looking around dumbly in the mute dark. "Well, now what?"

After staring at the ceiling and walls for twenty minutes, she threw on a fresh yukata, dark blue, from what she could tell, and patterned with white tree branches and flowers.

Yawning, she slowly opened her door and made her way through the corridors as quietly as possible. The floor felt warm under her bare feet as she tip toed out around a corner, trying to follow her instincts to the door that led outside. They led her somewhere a bit more interesting.

There was a small, flickering patch of light ahead in the darkness. Squinting, Eris made her way closer and found a door about a half-inch open. Going against her first thought of passing it off as non of her business, Eris went in a little closer, hiding most of her body against the wall and subtly leaned her head over to peer through the crack.

Kurama sat on the floor: back against the wall, leg farthest from the door drawn up, and a serious expression on his face as if he were thinking deeply about something. The pale blanket from his futon was around his shoulders, fighting off the draft from the open window. His hair was mussed from failed attempts at sleep and he seemed to be studying the flame of the lit candle at his side; watching it twist against the breeze.

Her heart skipped a beat; Eris had to think on how the motion of breathing worked.

Well… that can't be healthy… She thought with wide eyes.

Kurama reflected back on the words of Hiei that early afternoon. There was a bit of truth in it, he had to admit: Eris was a liability that would become dangerous in the future. It was more than pushing it this disappearing demon army…

This also shed light on at least one point of Hiei's reasoning of keeping his blood relation to Yukina a secret at all costs. He didn't want her hurt or kidnapped again. Should Kurama take a swipe with Hiei's blade and try this technique? Squander his wants and wishes in order to protect Eris?

Quietly as she had come, Eris ghosted away from the door, leaving Kurama to his thoughts. She was a little troubled by what she had seen: someone brooding so deeply. Her feet took her to a different door, the one she had originally been looking for. Sighing, Eris stepped outside into the cool air, taking in the scents of night and the chirping of bugs.

Taking a seat on the steps, she leaned her elbow on her knee; head in hand, just thinking. Every now and then a lightning bug would flicker on making her grin slightly. She never noticed the figure in the trees, narrowing his dark red eyes at her.

--------------------------------(….PUU! lol)

"…Eris-chan…"

Something poked her sharply. Eris grunted.

"Eris-chan."

"Nnn."

"Eris-chan!!"

"Whaaaat??"

"It's 7 in the morning. Time to get up! We have to prepare for the Festival, remember??"

"You have GOT to be kidding me…" she rolled over on her futon, pulling the sheet over her head. She'd only just gotten to sleep about 4 hours before. "You people are not normal!!"

Botan laughed. "I'd be worried if we were!"

"Point proven. Now, not to be rude, but go away."

Keiko rolled her eyes. "You're worse than Yusuke. You have to get up!"

"Iyada."

"Yes you do; Botan, help me for a second…"

Grinning, the two girls each grabbed a handful of Eris' blanket and hoisted her up with it. On the count of three, they made their way with their human blanket burrito into the halls. Yusuke came down their way at that moment, looking at his girlfriend curiously.

"Er, what are you doing exactly?"

She laughed. "Waking Eris-chan up!"

He blinked. "Okay then…have fun…"

Snoring slightly, Eris actually fell back asleep as her conniving companions carried her outside and towards the stream running through the garden. Giggling, Botan and Keiko stopped at the running water's edge. Synchronizing their actions, they dropped an edge of fabric and let Eris tumble into the cool water.

Through the walls, a scream woke Kurama from his slumber.

"BOTAN! KEIKO!!"

Opening his door, he walked curiously towards Yusuke who stood watching something in the gardens with great amusement in his sleepy morning daze.

"Did you hear something?" Kurama asked, walking around Yusuke to see what was going on.

"Oh yeah," he snickered and pointed towards Eris who was glaring at her tormentors across the garden greenery. Water dripped off her and her hair stuck to her head.

"You both are SO dead!" she tried lifting herself from the stream, but the futon blanket tangled around her legs and sent her slipping under the current again.

Botan and Keiko howled with laughter, nearly on the ground rolling.

"You should have gotten up, Eris-chan, this is all your own fault!" Keiko giggled.

Eris wasn't coming back up, however.

Laughing in little spurts still, Botan started her way towards the waterlogged girl. "Eris-chan? Come on, don't fool around we've got a lot of work ahead of us."

There was no sign of Eris surfacing yet.

Keiko looked to Botan with worry now. "Eris-chan!"

"Oh my…!" Eyes going wide they both jumped into the cold water and started wading around trying to find their friend. Kurama leaped over the temple railing and started running towards the garden stream himself when a cry from Keiko and a splash made him stop.

Eris popped up, grinning like a Cheshire cat, and then tackled Botan from behind to dunk her like Keiko. Laughing, she scrambled onto the bank before the other two girls could react. Kurama nearly fell over with relief.

"Thank Kami," he breathed and shook his head at her with a small grin.

Eris skipped up to him like a little girl and shrugged. "Told you I wasn't a morning person."

"And so you've proved it," he smiled. "I don't think they'll be bothering you until 9 o'clock now."

Wringing out her hair, Eris rolled her eyes. "Remind me to barricade my door…"
