Only One

Prologue----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Can me and Samantha go out and play with Lee today?"
"Of course you can, sweetie. After you finish your breakfasts."
"Okay!"
It was December 18, 1991, and it had just snowed outside. The grasslands were all covered with a sparkling white blanket of snow, and there were still crystals slowly falling from the sky.
Two young echidnas, Saminta and Samantha, were two excited little kids. They were always outside, no matter what the weather was. They were always anxious, and were the best of friends, even if they were sisters. They were always happy and they thought they always would be...
"Can Lee come out to play?" Saminta asked Mrs. Prower when she answered the door.
"Hello Saminta," Mrs. Prower replied, "hello Samantha. Let me get him." She walked inside and soon Lee was outside with them with his sled. While they were walking up a hill they were going to slide down, Lee all of a sudden said something that neither Saminta nor Samantha expeted.
"My Mama had a little baby last night," he said happily.
"What her name?" Samantha asked.
"Not her, Samantha," said Lee, "his. It's a boy. His name is Miles."
They had the most fun that day. But the next day, Lee was going on Vacation so the echidna girls had to play by themselves until January. But something happened two days before Christmas that would change Saminta's and Samantha's lives forever...
"MOMMY!!!"
"SAMANTHA!! NO! GET BACK HERE!!"
Samantha ran down the hallway and into the living room and squealed. Samintafollowed after her and saw her mother lying on the ground bleeding from her back. There was a bullet-hole in the window.
Suddenly, the front door burst open and people dressed in army uniforms barged in and pointed shotguns at the two echidna girls. Samantha cowarded behind Saminta, while Saminta stood her guard to protect her sister. Behind the soldiers a tall, egg-shaped made walked in.
"The almost extinct race of echidnas," the man said. "Echidnas-incredibly powerful creatures, yet there are only 70 families left in the world. Soon there will be only one left in the world." He grabbed Samantha's arm and attempted to escape with her. Saminta, however, jumped up and punched the man on the head with her triple-spiked fist. She snatched Samantha and was about to place her on her back and run off, when 4 of the soldiers grabbed Saminta, knocking Samantha out of her grasp.
"SAMANTHA!! RUN WHILE YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!!" Saminta demanded.
"But-"
"NO 'BUTS'! GET OUT OF HERE!!"
"SEIZE HER!" the man ordered his other soldiers. They were about to pounce on Samantha when she jumped out of the way and ran out the door.
Mark my words, little girl, I WILL have you. If I don't, then you may have the head of I, Dr. Ivo Robotnik!"
They did not know then that the little red echidna known as Samantha Jones would not be seen for another 13 years...
