The Woes of Sesshoumaru
By the one and only: Ringmaster's Servant
"Fluffy-sama?" A sleepy eyed Rin called from the floor of a camp. Sesshoumaru sighed; he had hoped he wouldn't be disturbed. "Yes, Rin?" He replied, his face in its usual stoic manner. "Rin wants to know what you're doing." The child replied, ignoring the slightly annoyed tone in her caretaker's voice. "Nothing Rin, now go back to sleep." He had replied, the sight of the girls innocent eyes softening his tone. "Ok Sesshoumaru-sama!" She said, and lay back down to fall asleep. Odd, he thought, his mind drifting to that fateful day when he had battled his half-brother, and been injured so badly he could hardly walk. He thought of the battle with himself to either throw the pup off of him, or do as he did, let her do what she was doing.
Usually, any human with such audacity as to touch him would have been killed immediately, but something about the human made him stay. And when he had denied her human food she had done nothing but grinned at him, Sesshoumaru! Why she followed him, this he didn't know. He knew he cared for the girl, he'd known this for a while now, but it's not like he would ever say that aloud.
His quiet musings were interrupted by a soft voice. "Sesshoumaru-sama?" It asked."Yes?" he questioned. "Rin heard a loud noise and, well, Rin was wondering if it would be okay…" Sesshoumaru silenced her with a raise of his hand. "It's okay Rin." The human pup grinned widely and ran to his side. He smiled inwardly, he knew Jaken wouldn't say a word when he woke up, and Rin wouldn't care enough to tell. He let her lay next to his tail, it was warm enough for her, and she would need nothing else. Truth be told, he enjoyed having the little girl around. If for nothing else, she distracted him from Jaken's mindless chatter and that he was thankful for.
He had just been about to fall asleep when that horrible thought struck him. The subject of Rin's mortality crossed his mind. Yes he thought, one day she will leave me. The thought of his Rin having to face death was, was, unimaginable! But, alas, it would have to come to pass, there was no way even, he, Sesshoumaru, could escape it. He put the thought out of his mind and changed position so he was facing Rin. This wouldn't happen for a long time, for now, he had her, his Rin. Though no one would ever know it, Rin was all he needed, his daughter.
