::Summary: Basically, it is my version of a scene that would have taken place if Rory knew Jess was leaving for California (the first time, during her senior year in high school.) I know it probably wasn't winter when he left but it is in my story :smiles: Sorry it is SO short. ::
:: Disclaimer: I do not own Gilmore Girls or any of the characters. Quote at beginning belongs to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (I'm in the middle of the book. Lol. It's really good.) Title is from "Mines Not a High Horse" by The Shins.::

"He didn't say any more but we've always been unusually communicative in a reserved way and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that."
"It's so cold…" escapes from his closed lips and his breath freezes in the small space between their faces.
"Of course it's cold. It's January in Connecticut," Rory replies, her teeth chattering quietly. Jess wraps his arms around her waist.
"I bet it never gets this cold in California," he offers. He talks out of the side of his mouth, the left side just a little lower the right. Rory is silent and he thinks he hassaid something wrong. She plays with the zipper on his dark jacket and bites the right corner of her bottom lip. They lean on the wall outside of Luke's and Rory watches the people walk by. She spots Dean, who tips his chin towards the sky in some sort of greeting. Rory tries to smile and Jess rolls his eyes. But she knows they won't get into that tonight.
"I love you…" she attempts, but it comes out weak with a question mark lingering at the end. Jess sighs and buries his face in her coffee colored hair. He knows she means it. Rory's nose is red and he thinks she looks a little like Rudolph. A very cute Rudolph. His lips brush her nose and she smiles.
Rory's eyes are sapphire and glassy, and look a little glazed when Jess trails his finger down her neck. She shivers. He checks his watch and her face falls.
"I have to go," he begins, jabbing his thumb in the general direction of the bus station. Rory nods and tugs at the loose curl sneaking over his ear. She's not going to cry because he said he would come back. He reassures her. But he's not coming back. Jess kisses her swiftly on the lips and enfolds her with his arms for a few moments. He whispers her name and likes the way it rolls off his tongue.
Rory watches him walk away until she can't see him because her vision is blurry and clouded with tears. At least he didn't see her cry.
