Scott Summers switched off his bedside lamp and slipped into bed. It had been a long day. And the next day he wanted to go to the Danger Room early to brush up his Rescuing Skills.
He lay in his bed for five minutes, mentally reviewing all the things he had to do tomorrow and then closing his eyes, behind the glasses, he fell asleep.
It was raining hard. The clouds in the night sky hid the moon and the stars from view. The street lights were slowly going off.
Someone was running. Running frantically. Suddenly there was another figure. This one of a man. A tall, well-built man.
The man, caught up to the first figure- it was a girl, and grabbed her by her hand.
"Leave me alone", the girl wept. The man only laughed. Then he came closer to the girl closer and fingered her jaw line. And then pushing her to the ground, he tore her blouse open.
Scott awoke with a start.
"What was that about?" he said to himself. But a second later he realized- the girl was Jean. He had no idea why he knew this, but he was somehow sure it was Jean. And he knew something else- that for Jean, it had not been a dream, it had been reality. As he sat up in his bed, trying to understand the meaning of the dream, he heard someone weep. The weeping was coming from the next room, Jean's room.
Quickly, Scott got out of his bed. And, after making sure his glasses were in place, ran to Jean's door.
"Jean?" he said softly, knocking on her bedroom door.
"Scott, is that you" was the sound from inside.
"Yeah", he said as he pushed her bedroom door open and came inside. He didn't have to take permission, Jean had sent him a mental wave saying he could come in. He made his way to Jean bed and sat down near her.
"I'm sorry Scott", Jean said sitting up on her bed.
Scott said, while wiping her tears "For what?"
"For the dream". Scott looked confused. "I couldn't keep in myself anymore, Scott. I tried, I really did. But my thoughts went out of control. I had too many bad memories, and I guess, with the bond that we have, it ended up in your dream."
Now Scott understood. "It's OK Jean", he said, as Jean laid her head on his shoulder, "I'm always here for you".
"I know, Scott. Thank you." Jean felt so secure in his arms. Like nothing could ever hurt her again. Nothing could take away her happiness.
"Scott", she said, still feeling kind of shaken- she always did, when she remembered that dreadful night when she was raped, "Stay here tonight. Please"
"OK", Scott said without another thought. Somehow he could sense the fear and pain Jean was going through. And he couldn't bear to see Jean in such a miserable state.
He slid below her blanket. It was soft and warm but Jean, he could feel was shivering.
"Jean, it's OK", Scott said, putting his strong arms over her stomach.
"Now that you're here", Jean added and cuddled closer to him. The warmness of his body made Jean feel so much better.
She felt so lucky, having a friend-no, boyfriend- who was so trustworthy. Someone she knew she could count on who wouldn't take advantage of her. She knew that none of the boyfriends she had ever had could she trust so much as to let them sleep in her own bed.
Thank you she sent a thought wave to him as she rested her head on his chest
You're welcome Scott sent back. Jean looked up at him and smiled. Scott, smiled back as he played with a lock of her hair.
I love you Scott
Love you, too Jean
