Author's notes: My first try at a Full Moon wo Sagashite fic. Actually it's more of a drabble. This fic was inspired by Volume 3 of the manga. May contain spoilers. Please review.
Disclaimer: Full Moon wo Sagashite doesn't belong to me. Life sucks.
He couldn't believe Aoi was dead, gone, erased from existence. Aoi wouldn't, couldn't just disappear like that. He was the heart and soul of Route L! Without him, the band wouldn't be able to function at all. To make matters worse, Hazuki-san had left together with him. When she was alive, her innocence seemed to light up every dark moment of their lives. That was how he survived without parents; Aoi and Hazuki became his guiders. And yet, both of them had been taken away.
Keiichi reminded him that they had left a daughter behind. How could he forget? What would she be feeling, having lost both her parents at such a tender age? He doubted that she even knew how they looked like. Would she be going through the same ordeal he was experiencing now?
I want to protect her, was his first thought, even before he'd even met her.
He sat next to Keiichi, staring out of the car window and watching the scenery whiz past them. Everything was happing too fast, like the blurred images of the trees and buildings. His fellow team-member seemed so distant with his changed hairstyle, as if he were a different person. He wasn't making an effort to break the awkward silence between them.
The car pulled up in the car park of a fairly old orphanage. He looked around in distaste. The daughter of one of the members of a pop legend group had been thrust into the care of strangers, in this rundown place. Or perhaps he was just feeling a little too disgruntled today.
"That's her. The one with two pigtails," said Keiichi finally, after scanning the whole area.
"Her name's Mitsuki," he added, smiling a little as the small girl scuttled over to pick up her ball.
I know. I named her, he thought, irritated.
Mitsuki-chan was a splitting image of Hazuki-san. She dug up old memories. Painful memories.
Giving a loud "HMPH!", he kicked the ball away with extreme force, startling both Mitsuki and shocking Keiichi. He couldn't understand why she was still smiling so happily. Her parents were dead, for God's sake!
"Where're your parents?" he asked in his usual rough tone.
The little girl looked up at him and answered that they'd gone to Heaven, her pigtails bobbing about her small face.
It was then that he knew that he wanted to protect her frail, tiny structure so badly from the harsh reality she would face when she grew older.
He picked up the ball and placed it in her tiny arms gently, a move even Keiichi didn't expect him to do.
"When you encounter any problems, just call me. I'll fly over as soon as possible! I'll protect you," he said, grinning and rubbing her head gently.
Takuto opened his eyes and glanced at the sleeping girl, tucked cosily in her bed. He fingered her pigtails gently as he hovered in the air, not wanting to arouse her.
I want to protect you, he thought, as his lips formed into a smile.
To readers: Apologies for the shortness of it. I felt that if I tried to lengthen it, it'd be spoiled horribly. Anyway, TakutoXMitsuki forever!
