Begining of a Legacy
A/N: Italics will be used for when characters are mentally speaking, to themselves or other wise. Bold will be used to highlight Numbers position of monsters and other specific information, just so you guys dont get confused.
A young 15 year old boy, has made it to Duel Academy after completing his exams, which he found very unremarkable. He was already dressed in the Slifer Red uniform after finally being able to tansfer to Duel Academy. What stood out about this boy was the out of place red aat he wore. His name he refused to say. Long abandoning it for a few years. He now just calls himself Red Hat, while ignoring people questioning him for such a decision.
'So this is Duel Academy huh? Well see just how strong the duelists here actually are.' Red Hat thought as he looked around the island, looking very impressed with how the place looks.
Red Hat decided to enroll and transfer to Duel Academy in the hopes of finding and dueling strong oppoents. He considered to maybe start a career as a pro duelist, but has yet to fully decide. When Red Hat was young, he became a very powerful duelist after learning many things about the game. Despite him learning the game faster, this caused kids to no longer duel him as his dueling skills far exceeded theirs. Red Hat does not like to look back at his barely existant childhood, given the fact he became much colder as he disliked having to lower his own dueling ability just to have 'fun'.
Red Hat then entered the main building after walking around the place taking in the sights in silence. Some time roaming around the halls of the main academy building, Red Hat finally reached his destination the Chancellor's office. As Red Hat entered the room he noticed a bald man with a beard to be sitting at the desk. While he was doing doing paper work he noticed Red Hat had entered his office.
"So you're the new transfer student I see. Well then Welcome to Duel Academy. I see you came here alone without a faculty member."
Red Hat just shook his head at that response "I rather get things done myself Chancellor, but thanks for the concern."
"Well then, Its nice to someone handle themselves even at such a big place. I never did get your name though." Chancellor asked
Red Hat cringed at the thought of using his real name he hasnt used in long time "I dont like telling my real name to anyone. So please Chancellor just call me Red Hat." he pleaded
"Im sure you have you reason I wont push you to tell me if thats what you wish. Anyway my name is Chancellor Sheppard, here at Duel Academy we aim to create the next generation of duelists. Study hard to become the next King of Games." Chancellor Sheppard explained.
Red Hat gave one of his rarest smiles "Thanks Chancellor Sheppard. Ill be on my way then."
"If you have any more questions be sure to ask any teachers or faculty members for help you may need. Tomorrow you'll start taking classes." Sheppard reminded Red Hat
"Ill keep that in mind then, Chancellor." said that Red Hat as he left Sheppards office.
As Red Hat left his office, Sheppard couldnt help but allow a smile to form across his face. Somehow, he had a feeling that boy would have a bright future, despite his questionable resumay. 'Judging from I was told, this boy looks very serious yet has a troubled past. It's nothing I should worry about for now. Im sure his time here at Duel Academy will lighten him up.'
Red Hat took out his PDA which he got before he arrived. He noticed theres a map feature, mail system, and few other features which arent important to him at the moment. 'So the currency here at Duel Academy is Duel Points eh? Well then the more strong opponents I beat the more I get it seems.' Red Hat concluded before he exited the building and decided to walk around.
'May as well start looking around. Class doesnt begin for me until tomorrow since I just arrived. Still though, the exams were a complete joke you have to be a real failure to mess them up.' Red Hat mentally kept telling himself this as he was not ammused with how easy the exams were. 'Maybe Im over thinking things. Maybe it will get much tougher as it goes on. After all didn't they mention is to prove you're ability?'
As Red Hat continued to look around the island wondering where to go, he finally found where he was staying at. The Slifer Red Dorm. Red Hat took a good at it and just shrugged at what he saw. 'It may not look inpressive, but I prefer it being simple then that fancy eye sore that is the Obelisk Blue dorm'
Red Hat made his way to the Slifer Red Dorm. Since there was no one around he decided to wait around outside until the Slifer Red head master arrived. Standing around and waiting wasnt on Red Hats to do list, so he went inside, which was the cafeteria and sat down on one of the seats. As time would pass, as he had nothing to do, Red Hat decided to fiddle around with his PDA until something happened. He even decided to look at the rules for a bit only to face palm at what he read. 'Most of these rules is what I call bloat. Im pretty sure most of these arent even enforced besides a few, so why bother.'
Hours later finally someone came in to the cafeteria. "Oh you must be that new transfer student I heard about?" Red Hat turn around to see who asked him. It was a man with long black hair, wearing glasses and a white shirt. Red Hat noticed he was hold a fat cat with brown fur in his arm. Red Hat just raised an eye brow at looking at him holding a cat but paid no mind to it.
"Yes, I am the new transfer student and you must be the head master of the Slifer Red dorm correct?" Red Hat asked the man in front of him.
"My you sure do have a sharp eye and intuition if you were able to figure out that much. I am Professor Lyman Banner. As a teacher, I specialize in some lesser known tactics and strategies in the world of duel monsters, and yes you are correct I am the Slifer Red Dorms head master. Nice to meet you" greeted Banner.
"Just call me Red Hat okay Professor Banner." Red Hat told him. "Anyway I assume its almost dinner time considering its already evening" Red Hat mentions as he noticed the sun was setting.
"Ah yes, almost time for dinner. Say Red Hat mind you come to the kitchen with me. I want to surprise the other students with your arrival tonight." Banner asked him
'Hm, normally I dont like attracting attention but this is the Slifer Red Dorm so guess I have nothing to worry about.' Red Hat thought. "Well I dont mind at all. May as well surpise the rest of the Slifer Reds with my arrival."
"Excellent now come on in and lets wait for the rest of the Slifer Reds to arrive, meanwhile I cook dinner."
After what felt like an hour for Red Hat he noticed the entire cafeteria was filled up. With everyone having a plate of what ever Banner cook up for them. "May I have your attention students." Banner ordered them. Once all eyes were on him he continued "We have a new transfer student that just came in today. So mind if you come out, and introduce yourself."
Everyone then saw the person who came out of the kitchen. They saw the young Slifer Red in full detail. What stood out to them the most was his red hat, which somehow covered his eyes. Red Hat then began to speak up "Well hello to all of you too. Everyone just call me Red Hat. If any of you feel like dueling well you can always come to me." Red Hat finished explaining himself
At that moment a certain kuriboh head boy spoke up "Wow I like this guy already. Full of energy, mysterious, and he really likes dueling! Hey there my name is Jaden, Jaden Yuki"
Red Hat was surprised by this guys energy and forwardness. "Well nice to meet you to Jaden. Something tells me we're gonna get along quite nice, and just call me Red Hat okay."
"Nice to meet you too Red Hat, and welcome to Duel Academy. You're gonna love it at Slifer Red. Wow cant wait to duel you man. What kind of deck you play? You have any rare cards to show off? Whats your dueling style?"
Red Hat couldnt get over the fact with just how energetic Jaden was when it came to duels 'Wow he really must like dueling this much. Still I wonder how well he duels and his reaction will be when I beat him.' Red Hat did not want to imagine said scenerio. "Well you'll have to find out some other time right now im starving lets eat."
"Well then now that, thats out of the way. Lets go ahead and dig in" Banner said
Red Hat decided to sit next to Jaden and his two friends "I see these are your friends, huh Jaden?"
"They sure are. Come one guys introduce yourselves to our newest member Red Hat." asked Jaden
"Well then my is Syrus. You know, your propably a way better duelist then me and have better grades then me anyway." the short blue haired boy Syrus responded
Red Hat was not amused by Syrus attitude 'Short check, has confidance issues check, admits hes bad at dueling check. Something tells me this guy is a complete disaster.' Nice to meet you Syrus
"My name is Chumley, I dont duel very much, but since you'll be hanging out with Jaden lets hope we can be friends." the boy named Chumley said
Red Hat took a good look at him 'Big broad, a big nose, and a certain hair style that makes him look like a koala I presume. If I didnt know any better Id say this guy runs a Koala theme based deck judging by his appearance, but looks can be quite deciving who knows.' Nice to meet you too Chumley.
The trio welcomed Red Hat to their group, and now started eating their dinner without anymore interruptions. As Red Hat was eating he couldnt help the feeling that this was gonna be a quite interesting year or so he thinks. 'Why do I get the feeling I can trust these people? Im sure they're nice, but I dont tend to trust many people at all. Maybe Im over thinking things and I need to relax; dont want to appear tense to these guys.' Banner then shows up at the trio after they were done eating.
"Well then, Red Hat now its time to show you to your room." said Banner, as he approached him.
As Banner walked Red Hat out of the cafeteria, Banner took him to the second floor of the dorm and the farest room at the dorm room 204. They both went inside with the trio coming in soon after. "Well now Red Hat this will be your room, you'll be staying in.
Red Hat took a look around the room. 'A triple bunk bed, small bathroom a small electric powered stove to cook, asuming I even know how to cook, and a lone desk. Can get crapped in here but my old room at home was much smaller.' Red Hat did not like to think about his old home at the moment.
"Wow no room mates. Red Hat get to have this room to yourself." Jaden told Red Hat
"Lucky." sighed Syrus
"Well then, now thats settled time to turn in." Banner left the room
"We'll see you tomarrow then Red Hat if you ever feel lonely come stop by our room its two doors away." said Jaden.
"Well, I'll see you tomarrow then Jaden." Red Hat dismissed once the trio left. Red Hat couldnt help but crack a smile at Jaden's antics. 'The guy is so energetic yet always happy too. Its like theres nothing that can stop him.' Red Hat layed down on his bed and started to think about things.
'Will my years here really change me? Will I really find strong duelists to duel here? Can I actually have a good time?' These are questions Red Hat asked himself yet he doesnt have an anwser for at the moment. For as long as he could remember he hasnt had a good time with dueling or interacting with people for a long time. For a long time, he slowly lost trust and faith in so many people, that he doesnt bother socializing. Perhabs hanging out with Jaden can change Red Hats view on how he sees people. Soon Red Hat drifted to sleep preparing for class tomarrow. Little does Red Hat know what he will encounter at this Academy is not was he was expecting.
Tuesday
Time 6:30 AM
Red Hat slowly woke up from his slumber. Red Hat always did slept with his red hat on, never taking it off unless it was time for him to shower. 'This early huh? Guess I couldn't sleep very well.' thought Red Hat, as took a look at his alarm clock.
Red Hat got out of bed and got dressed for today. Since class doesnt start for another couple of hours he decided to explore the Island for a little while until it was time to enter the main building. Looking around he found the Ra Yellow dorm which was located not too far of a cliffside. He wondered why the Ra dorm was placed in such a place, but he wasnt complaining.
After exploring the island a it more, he found the Obelisk Blue Girls dorm in the far distance. This dorm was split off by a lake, which one can only cross by boat. Red Hat kept his distance as he refuses to be near the female Obelisk Blues. The last thing he wanted was to be acused of tresspassing and getting into trouble.
While walking a bit further he noticed there was a beach. Red Hat wasnt to keen on going to the beach. Mostly because, he hates being around such a crowded area and would rather not bring any attention to himself. He rather only come if he was alone. 'A beach? I'm not to found of them, unless it's to clear my mind.' he thought as he took in the sights and the smell of the salty sea. Deciding not to stick around any longer, he left the beach and started walking in the direction of the Academy building.
Time 7: 15 AM
After roaming around a little bit longer, Red Hat now decided to head inside the main Academy buiding after wondering around the infrastructure. Red Hat kept on roaming the halls he found the duel arena, which he then noticed a duel has been going on.
He decided to check out the duel, only to face palm at what he saw. It was 3 Obelisk Blues one of them were dueling a Ra Yellow. All three Obelisks were laughing at the Ra Yellow. This of course made Red Hat rather angry. 'Snobs who think they are superior just because of their rank. I'll show them. Rank means nothing if you don't have the skills.' he tought, as he took a closer look at the field.
Obelisk Student: 7200 LP
Ra Yellow Student: 2000 LP
"Now both Maruding Capatin Attack that Ra Reject and end this duel!" both Maruding Captains attack the Ra Yellow student depleeting his life points
Ra Yellow Student: 2000 - 0 LP
With the final attack thr holograms dissapeared. The Ra Yellow student groaned as he was trying to get up. "Ha! you Ra rejects dont compare to us Obelisk Blues. How lame was this guys!"
"Very lame he barely laid a scratch on you." The other Obelisk said which Red Hat believed were his lackeys. Red Hat then decided to step up as soon as the Ra Yellow student left the arena.
"Well this is a welcoming crew. Despite the fact this was a very underwhelming duel at the time I came." Red Hat insisted. The Obelisk soon turned to his location and got infuriated. Red Hat just smirked at these Obeliks reaction.
"Why you little Slifer Sludge. You should show respect to your superiors!" the Obelisk yelled
"You think your such a hot shot. You're just a Slifer Slacker" Another Obelisk retorted
"I dont care who you are. Your ranks mean nothing and you dont deserve respect after that perfermance." Red Hat scowled, not feeling the least bit intimidated by the Obelisk trio.
"Ill make you eat your words you Slifer Slacker! You dare disrespect an Obelisk Blue and you're just a lowly Slifer Slacker!"
"I disrespect anyone I chose or I dont like, and I dont listen to anyones authority, much less obnoxious snobs like you." Red Hat could help but start laughing.
"Grr, I'll crush you right here and now you Slifer Sludge!" Obelisk Blue readies his duel disk.
"Well see who be doing the crushing here. Im game." Red Hat readies his duel dick.
DUEL
Obelisk Student: 8000 LP
Red Hat: 8000LP
"Winners first! I draw!" The Obelisk student draws.
Hand 6
"Ill start by Playing Marauding Captain in Atk mode (ATK: 1200 Def 400 LV:3). Now his effect activates when hes summoned I can summon another warrior type monster from my hand and I choose another Marauding Captain. His other effect you can only attack him and since theres 2 of them you cant attack at all. Now Ill play the continuous spell called The Ally Forces! With this all warrior monsters I control gain 200 hundred attack points for every warrior or spellcaster monster so both my Marauding Captain gain 400 atk points (ATK: 1200 - 1600 Def: 400). Now I end my turn with one facedown card. Your move Slifer Slacker!"
Hand 2
Red Hat was not amused "Thats all? Please, Its go time I Draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
"Ill play the spell Pot of Greed so I draw 2 cards. Ill set a monster face down then Ill play two cards facedown that ends my turn." Red Hat ends his turn.
Hand 4
Obelisk just smirked "All that talk and thats all you got. This will be even easier then I Thought. I Draw." The Obelisk student draws.
Hand 3
"I now summon Command Knight in attack mode (Atk: 1200 Def: 1900 LV:4)." A female knight dressed in armor while carrying a sword appeard. "Her effect gives all Warrior monsters 400 more atk points including herself and thanks to The thats another 200 atk points for all my warriors. (Atk: 1200- 2200 Def: 1900) (Atk: 1600 - 2200 Def: 400) Now Marauding Captain attack his face down monster!"
As the warrior began to attack Red Hat just shrugged his head. "What a dolt. Go Trap Mirror Force all your attack position monsters are destroyed!" The warrior hit a solid mirror as the attack was deflected and soon a powerful blast of holy light destroyed all 3 warriors.
The Obelisk was now enraged "Why you no good Slifer Sludge. Ill Play Call of the Haunted to bring back Command Knight! (Atk: 1200 - 1800 Def 1900 LV:4) Now Command Knight attack his facedown monster!" The female knight attacks the facedown monster. The monster was reveiled to be Magician of Faith (Atk 300 Def 300 LV:1)
"Magician of Faiths Flip effect. Since she was flipped face up I can add a spell from my graveyard to my hand and theres only one card so its Pot of Greed" Red Hat recovers his spell
"Heh like thats gonna matter you Slacker. Ill play the equip card United We Stand to boost Command Knights attack points by 800 more points (ATK: 1800 - 2600 Def: 1900) now Ill play this facedown and end my turn. Just try and destroy her now." The Obelisk student ends his turn.
Hand 0
Red Hat just ignored this snobby Obelisk remark. "You are a dolt, you know that right. My turn, I draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
The Obelisk got enraged again "What you call me you Slacker!"
Red Hat just smirked at this guy's foolishness "You're a complete dolt and heres why. I play smashing groung to destroy you Command Knight."
"What why you little!" Obelisk could believe he was outsmarted.
"Now I play Pot of Greed again to draw 2 cards. Now I summon Breaker the Magical Warrior in attack mode (Atk: 1600 Def: 1000. When hes normal summoned he gets a spell counter which increases his atk by 300, but thats irrelevant since im gonna use that spell counter to destroy your facedown card." The warrior's sword glowed in a blue light before slashing the facedown card and destroying it. "Battle, Breaker the Magical Warrior attack him directly!" The spellcaster warrior slashes the Obelisk Student.
Obelisk Student 8000 - 6400 LP
"That ends my turn" Red Hat stated. 'This is pathetic he used up his entire hand thinking I was gonna try and beat over his monsters in battle? What a fool, doesn't he now battle isn't the only way to destroy monsters?'
Hand 5
"Why you no good punk. You just got lucky is all! My Draw!"
Hand 1
"I summon Goblin Attack Force in attack mode! (Atk: 2300 - 2500 Def: 0) and he gets an extra 200 attack points thanks to The Ally Forces " A pair of Goblins appeared on the field swinging their clubs around violently. "Battle, Goblin Attack Force attck his Breaker the Magical Warrior!" As the Goblins began to charge in, Red Hat just smirked
"You dont learn do you. Go trap Wildspread Ruin! This destroys you highest attack monster." A mine appeared on the field and self destructed, creating a massive explosion destroying the Goblin Attack force
"Why I outta. I cant lose not to a Slifer Slacker! I end my turn." Obelisk ends his turn.
Hand 0
"Are you even trying? This feels like Im wasting waste of my time. My turn, I Draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
"This duel is over. I tribute my Breaker the Magical Warrior to summon Jinzo!(Atk: 2400 Def: 1500)" A Cybernetic cyborg appeared. "Now I Banish Magician of Faith and Breaker the Magical Warrior to special summon Chaos Sorcerer!(Atk: 2300 Def: 200)" A dark sorcerer appeared with flames he appeares to be controling. "To further beat you I play the spell card Limiter Removal to double Jinzos attack points!(Atk: 4800 Def: 1500) This duel is over! Chaos Sorcerer and Jinzo finish him off!" With a power blast from both attacks, they depleted the Obelisk life points.
Obelisk Blue Student: 6400 - 4100 - 0 LP
"No way! I didnt even scratch that Slifer Slacker!" The Obelisk was dumbfounded at just what happened.
"This is the so called Elite Duelists? This was a waste of my time. Don't try to mess with me or I'll humiliate you guys even further. If this is what the so called Elites can do, then I don't want to know how the rest of you are like." With that Red Hat left the duel arena leaving the Obelisk trio fuming, and head off to class.
Red Hat took a good look as deck to and took out a few cards and modifying it from time to time. 'I dont consider this deck very powerful yet it seems no matter who I duel, they can never seem to keep up with me. This deck I find outdated as this was just a test deck. I constantly keep moving on and coming up with new strategies, yet these guys feel like beatdown is the way to go even though that was already outdated even when I was a kid.' Red Hat put away his deck after modifying it. Deciding to modify his deck further after class.
Red Hat was utterly baffled at the duel he had. Were all Obelisk Blues this snobby, including the females? If this was the case, then Red Hat would have no choice but to show the Academy who was truely the best duelist. It's not any of the Obelisk Blues or the Ra Yellows. It was him a Slifer Red student and he decided to stay in Slifer Red has does not want to be associated with the Obelisk Blue students. He has yet to see how Ra Yellows are like, so had nothing to say. 'I have yet to experience Ra Yellows. Wonder how they act towards Slifer Reds.' he thought, as he kept on walking through the hallways of the Academy.
If theres one thing Red Hat isnt aware of right now. This is the start of an infamous legacy here at the Academy. What will the future hold for him?
A/N: Note my english isnt very good and isn't my main language so if you see any grammer errors well now you know why. If you wonder why Im also typing out current hand durring the duel? Its to prevent inconsistency when it comes to duel as ive seen other people do(usually accidentally).
Edit 2/20/2022: After rereading and looking back at these earlier chapters, I'm not very proud of how this really turned out. So'll be editing a lot of these old chapters in due time. Not necessarily to fix grammer errors (Let's be real I won't be finding all of them.), but for those to see where I'm comig from when I made this fanfic in the first place. This fanfic only inpiration from me, was done out of ridicule and mockery for how the fandom views the anime in such a high pedistal, and how peeps use anime cards and custom card, as they don't know how to build a competent deck. If they do, never with actual meta cards "for the time period" and still using cards no sane old school player use. This fanfic isn't to replicate the irl meta game of back in the day, rather you can still have a character's theme but still use the same 20 staples cards. Another factor is that Blair/Rei is highly disliked in the fandom for no good reason, so that's another reason for this fanfic. To give her an actual chance, as the fandom doesn't want to do so. If I come off like an asshole, egotisical or disingenuous, that's why. It's also the reason why I made my incarnation of Red Hat like this, even though it's a great way for peeps to hate my version of him and interest. I never expected for this fanfic to get attention (Even if negative lol) So I'll be editing these earlier chapters.
