Tinder Date.
Chapter 1
Swipe
Friday night is a usual routine for the NYPD police lieutenant. After an evening of playing games and watching movies with her eight year old son, Noah, Olivia was ready to relax on her couch, and throw on a cheesy crime drama. As she returns to her blue rectangular couch she reaches for her phone on the coffee table. With a tick of the unlock, she scans through looking for a certain app.
Olivia wasn't one for online dating, she wasn't one for dating at all since Noah had entered her life. Her last big relationship was Ed Tucker which ended reasonably well, for the most part. She wanted to focus her time solely on Noah and raising him in a very different childhood to what she had. However, Noah has now reached that age where he doesn't need Olivia as much. He's always been wise beyond his years, mature for his age, so it didn't shock Olivia when he started putting himself to bed without need of a story and telling her he's going to shower without her having to request it. If he wasn't so small, Olivia could have sworn he was a thirty year old man.
Earlier in the day, after discussing evening plans with Rollins, the Lieutenant couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy as the senior detective discussed her plans with Carisi for the evening. Then came the age old question from her dear friend about dating. Olivia brushed it off - when would she have the time? Amanda refused to take that as an excuse. So - with much reluctance and with Amanda's help, she signed up to tinder. Though, this was her first time seeing the app. Amanda had set up the profile, settings, and filled out all the information.
Olivia rolled her eyes as she cast a gaze upon her profile.
Olivia Benson, 55.
NYPD Lieutenant. Mother. Hardworker.
Catching bad guys and saving lives.
Just to make it worse, Amanda combed through her pictures and found one of Olivia sat on a bench in the park back in summer, her hair hung down onto her shoulders, she wore a tank top and a pair of aviator sunglasses. Olivia swiped to the next picture she cringed.
"Why that one?!" She exclaimed quietly so as not to wake Noah.
She rolled her eyes again as her eyes settled upon a picture of her rock climbing a few months ago. Even though Olivia wasn't as fit as she was twenty years ago - she still looked good and even better dangling with confidence from a rock climbing wall with one hand, looking at the camera, and giving a thumbs up. Swiped again and this time she smiled. A selfie of her and Noah most likely from the same set at the park.
"Dating was so much easier twenty years ago." Olivia thought to herself as she started swiping on men she had barely little interest in. "You meet in a bar, you exchange numbers, and meet up for dinner later in the week." Her thoughts continued to roll as she once again swiped left on another bio that read "Jack of all trades, master of none.". Olivia wasn't even sure what she was looking for - she kinda just wanted a companion, someone to share Friday night with though none of these men gave her any form of interest. There wasn't anything wrong with them, exactly, they just weren't her type. Mostly business men looking for young things in their twenties not mature career moms in their fifties. Swipe, swipe, swipe. Nope, nope, nope. Too much facial hair, not enough facial hair, a face tattoo, tongue tattoo, sexists, assholes too many to bare. She was ready to throw in the towel until one profile caught her eye and caused her to sit up fully on the couch, eyes widened with surprise as she looked down at her iPhone.
Alexandra Cabot, 50.
Bio:
Wouldn't you like to know?
Why was Alex coming up on her phone? Amanda must have set Olivia's preferences to 'Everyone'. Olivia scanned through the pictures. Various selfies of the former ADA at the beach, hiking with friends, and even one of her at home. A smirk played on Olivia's lips as she contemplated her options. She could swipe left like she has with all the previous suiters or she could swipe right… but what if Alex doesn't match with her? Then what?
Olivia pushed herself up off the couch. Still with her phone open and in hand. Her mind raced as she switched off her TV and made her way towards her bedroom. Alexandra Cabot. Olivia has a long history with the attorney. Years of arguments, a request for a new ADA, and tears at a fake funeral. Alex always challenged Olivia at every step, she was the only one who could light a fire in her belly. Not to mention, she was beautiful. Alex always turned heads no matter where she went or who she was with. Everyone in court would be looking at the SVU attorney as she handed another scumbag his ass. It was hot - to say the least. Olivia never really found herself attracted to women, though there was something about Alex. She had passion, morals, and a sassy attitude that even made Olivia bite her lip twenty years ago. She scoffs. Twenty years ago - walking in on her date with Trevor… that red dress, those blue eyes. Olivia swallows hard as she looks at herself in her bathroom mirror. Years of failed relationships, boredom, and obvious play on her issues of abandonment… maybe it was time Olivia did something for herself and allowed herself to indulge. What's the worst that could happen? Alex might not even use the app anymore.
Olivia picks up her phone from the bathroom sink and looks again at the beautiful blond's profile. She takes a deep breath and swipes right. The only swipe right or the night. She closes her eyes and her phone. She didn't really know what to expect.
She made her way back into her bedroom taking off the blue button down and tossing it to the laundry basket followed by her black tailored suit pants and bra. She opens the dresser and looks for an oversized shirt and throws it on over her head.
She's not expecting Alex to respond right away - it was just passed midnight and if Olivia still knew Alex like she did all those years ago, the ADA is probably fast asleep to wake up early for a run tomorrow. So maybe tomorrow? It was Saturday afterall - what better day to sit combing through some of New York's scummiest on a dating app?
Olivia threw herself down into bed and looked up at the ceiling. She leaned over to her bedside table and plugged in her phone. She didn't need an alarm today, Noah would wake her up eventually.
As the morning came through her blinds, Olivia woke naturally and rolled over onto her stomach in her king sized bed. She pushes herself up with her elbows and rubs her eyes and face. She picked up her phone on the bedside table
9:30am.
Olivia frowned - where was Noah? A shock of panic rushed through the detective as she jumped out of bed with haste and opened her bedroom door. She was greeted with the sound of cartoons and crunching. She steps into the hallway and then through into the living room where eight year old Noah Benson sat watching SpongeBob and eating Fruit Loops. Olivia relaxed and smiled at her son.
"Hey kid…" She walks into the kitchen. "Why didn't you wake me?"
Noah shruged "You were sleeping, I didn't want to disturb you." He said before spooning another mouthful of fruit loops.
Olivia smiled and she started to make herself coffee. "I appreciate that, bud. Thank you." She unlocked her phone and checked the notifications as the coffee brewed. Nothing. Not a single thing, other than a group WhatsApp message from Amanda showing a large bucket of popcorn and Carisi's head in the corner of the picture. Olivia sighed - she knew Alex was definitely awake. She placed her phone down again. She had started to creep herself out. She reaches over to the brewed coffee jug and pours the rich, black, contents into a mug. She needed to get her mind off Alex for a while.
For the next couple of hours, Olivia sat with Noah watching all the cartoons NickToons had to offer from Fairly Odd Parents to old reruns of SpongeBob that Olivia remembers watching when they were first aired. She always enjoyed cartoons, especially twenty years ago when she first joined SVU. It was a nice way to relax on a Saturday morning. She had practically forgotten about Alex until…
Ding…
Olivia looked over at her phone. She picked it up firmly and looked at the push notification. Her heart practically stopped, a smile grew on her lips.
