You probably won't see this, but you reignited my passion for writing in just a few days time with so kudos to you friend!
"Shishishishi! Today's looking real sunny isn't it guys?" The notorious Pirate Captain and newly crowned Yonko, Monkey D. Luffy sat aboard the Thousand Sunny with his feet kicked up, hands behind his head and a relaxed smile on his face much to the delight of his crewmates.
The land of Wano Kuni was one filled with warring factions, an unstable government that continuously starved and abused its people, a corrupt Shogun that was more of a fool than a king and at the very apex of it all sat the strongest creature in the world.
Kaido ruled over that land with an iron fist for over twenty years leaving nothing but pain, misery, heartache and heartbreak in his wake. For all who lived that never ending nightmare, there seemed like there was no end in sight. At least that's what they thought before Luffy and his crew showed up.
It was not easy and pushed everyone to their utmost limits, yet they persevered and unbeknownst to Luffy, the fight with Kaido fully unleashed his true potential along with the hidden nature of his Gum Gum Fruit. It took everything he had along with making sure his own heart continued to beat funny, but eventually the brutal tyrant fell to his strongest attack and the people of Wano were now truly free to do as they pleased. Luffy couldn't help but want to see more of it now that Kaido and his men weren't mucking things up.
"Man, Wano was a really interesting place. I really hope we'll be able to see Momo, Yamato, Kinemon and everyone else again. Sucks, we had to leave so soon." Everyone could see the hidden pout at the end of his sentence and felt somewhat similar.
Zoro was the first one to chime in as he was cleaning his swords, "Eh, it was probably for the best. Getting too attached to people is how we got roped into that mess to begin with."
Luffy shot up in annoyance and glared at his vice captain, "You're so cold, Zoro!"
"We did what we came here to do and I'd say we went above and beyond what was required." Zoro shrugged, much to his crewmates' annoyance.
"Jeez have a heart!" Nami called out.
"How heartless can you be?" Usopp joined in.
"You're acting just like Kaido!" Chopper jumped in the middle of Usopp and Nami and the three of them started hurling more insults at Zoro in a manner resembling kids throwing temper tantrums.
"He's acting like a green Kaido!" Luffy stuck his tongue out and the now angry quartet continued to raze insults at Zoro who was still clearly unphased by it all. Instead choosing to focus back on his new sword, Enma. It still felt clearly different from Wado Ichimonji and Sandai Kitetsu, yet he could tell that all three of them now felt like part of himself. An extension of his entire being and that made Zoro feel like he was one step closer to his final goal of defeating Mihawk and becoming the strongest swordsman in the world.
He said a silent thanks to Kushina, although being a non believer in God or anything like that, and much to his dismay, they were still shouting at him.
"Shut it!" Zoro lashed out hoping to quiet them down.
All of them were now sticking their tongues out and giving him a thumbs down while chanting, "Green Kaido!" at him.
Jinbe watched alongside Robin who was relaxing reading a book and couldn't help but laugh at what was transpiring, "Is everyone always this rowdy?" He saw Robin chuckle at the shenanigans and took that as a yes.
"It's never a dull moment with them. You should know that by now Jinbe." Robin teased.
As if a hidden alarm in his head went off, San burst from the kitchen with drinks in hand and hearts in his eyes, "Nami-SWAAAAAAN, Robin-CHWAAAAANNN!" He delivered the drinks to the two ladies first before handing everyone else theirs. He stopped short at Zoro and sneered at him.
"You should drink the sea water since you're so heartless! How dare you make Nami upset!" Sanji stated hoping to annoy the man even more.
"Why on earth would I ever listen to you, number Four?" Zoro retorted and he could see Sanji's entire demeanor shift into pure venom.
Their newly updated bounties were still fresh on everyone's minds and Sanji was still very sensitive about his. He was regarded as one of Luffy's wings that he needed in order to become the Pirate King and being the fourth highest now behind Jinbe and Zoro pissed him off beyond belief.
"Screw you, mosshead!" Sanji moved to kick Zoro in the face and was met with a sword instead. Both men went back and forth with armament haki infused attacks with Luffy, Chopper, Usopp and Nami all cheering Sanji on.
Franky and Brook made their way up from the basement wanting to see what all the fuss was about, "Well it looks like everyone is enjoying themselves on this truly wondrous day." Brook said while Franky simply posed, feeling energized from everything that was happening.
"What a SUUUUUUPPPPERRRRR fine day it is to be sailing aboard the greatest ship in the world!" Franky bellowed out, matching the energy he was feeling.
Franky, Brook and the others continued to watch the bickering unfold until everyone had their fill. Once everything calmed down, Luffy laid back down on the ground as his Nakama had now found themselves joining their captain, enjoying the sunlight as it beamed down on them. While that was fun, he simply couldn't wait until the food was ready as it'd been a few hours since he'd eaten and the man was starving.
"Sanji! When's lunch gonna be ready?" Luffy already knew trying to get into the kitchen would end in failure so he reluctantly had to wait for his chef to finish things up.
"Wait another thirty minutes and the stew will be ready." Sanji informed him. Luffy groaned loudly, but knew he had no choice but to wait.
Jinbe, seeing everyone had been gathered to one spot, finally decided to ask a few very important questions that had been on his mind since the raid ended, "Luffy-kun, do you have any idea about where your fruit came from?"
Luffy sat up with eyes full of joy to look at him, "Yeah! Shanks and his crew stole it from an enemy ship! They are the coolest!"
"So the man's story about one of his men stealing it was true…" Jinbe inquired before continuing, "What about Nika? Has that name ever come up before?"
Luffy looked at him confused which meant he had no idea what Jinbe was talking about, "Uh…no. Who's Nike?"
"Nika." Jinbe corrected him, "But I guess if you haven't heard about it then I suppose it is no use in further questioning."
Robin decided to speak up, "Actually Jinbe, I'm curious about this myself. Luffy, didn't you say your fruit gave you a new form during your fight with Kaido?"
"Oh you mean Gear 5?" Luffy gave her a smile and giggled, "I had no clue that I would even be able to do something like that, but it was the absolute coolest thing ever! I felt like I could fight for much longer and my heart sounded real funny."
"Your hair turned white and eyes red when using that technique too, right? I wonder why?" Usopp chimed in wanting to know more about it as well.
"Oh, that's just how I look when I'm totally free!" He flexed a half state where rings of smoke formed around him as his hair remained black and smiled.
"Still…I do find it odd that the Gum Gum Fruit which is stated to be a Paramecia allows you a transformation that is quite similar to a Zoan." Robin watched as her captain started to leap around the others with glee on his face. It was like watching a kid showing off to his parents about a cool trick he'd learned hoping that it would make them proud and happy of him.
The rings of smoke dissipated as Luffy took his seat again, "Pretty cool huh?"
"SUUUUUPPPPERRRR cool Captain!" Franky cheered.
"Yohohohoho! That is quite the spectacle Luffy-san."
Luffy placed a hand over his heart in silent thought about what Ace would say about this new form…he hoped his brother would smile like everyone else around him does when they see it.
"Something on your mind, Luffy?" Nami asked, seeing her captain was almost lost in thought.
"Nah, it's nothing major. It's just…" Luffy placed the strawhat on his head and looked up at the sky, "I wonder if Ace would be as happy seeing me like this like you guys are?"
Ah there it was. Another sensitive topic that the Strawhats were careful not to agitate. Nami figured it best if she spoke up first, "He'd be the proudest big brother in the world. You know that better than anyone else Luffy."
"That's right, Luffy. I'm sure Ace would be proud of the man you've become." Sanji added while bringing him another refill on his drink.
"Ditto that!" Chopper said.
"Triple that!" Usopp, Brook and Franky joined.
"There's no other man in this world I would rather follow and would gladly lay down my life for you." Jinbe bellowed.
"You got that right." Zoro quipped while watching Luffy closely.
"I think we're all in agreement, Captain. You've always gone above and beyond for us and no matter what doubts you may have about yourself, we'll always be proud of the man we chose to follow to hell and back." Robin told him as she could see that same cheerful demeanor come back.
DOOM DUT DA DA
There it was.
Luffy knew that sound from anywhere.
His heart started to sound all funny again. He could feel that same euphoric feeling as when he first transformed and Luffy knew it was time to put on a show.
"Shishishishi!" Luffy began to giggle and soon became a full of laughing fest as the smoke that dissipated had returned and soon his hair and clothes followed suit as they had now become snow white and those same blood red eyes had made themselves known. The Strawhats could do nothing but marvel at what appeared to be the true form of his Gear 5 transformation as their captain began bouncing up and down, still laughing as if he couldn't stop. He was bouncing all around the ship like something out of a stop and stretch cartoon. The railings, the floor, the sails and whatever else he bumped into all become rubberized right along with him.
"Hahahahahahaha! This is it! Why do you guys look so shocked?" Luffy continued to smile and laugh as his friends looked at him with shock and awe.
Before he could do any actual damage to his ship, Luffy felt it right to deactivate it and cool back down. While he wasn't the smartest man, he was no fool. He understood that if he wasn't careful he could very easily lose himself to this feeling and put his friends in danger.
Luffy stopped jumping around and soon the smoke and pure white drained away from him, "So…what'd you guys think?"
Zoro was the first to speak up about the most obvious question on everyone's minds, "So I get that you're now able to turn everything you come into contact with into rubber just like you, but how come you didn't just show us that all white form first? Do you have multiple Gear 5's like you do with Gear 4?"
Luffy shook his head, "Nah, the one you just saw was the true version and the one you saw before is just when I transform without making my heart beat weird first."
Hearing Luffy talk about making his heart beat weird caused Chopper to snap out of whatever daze he was in watching him jump around like that and ran up to him, "What do you mean you make your heart beat weird?"
Now this actually made Luffy ponder for a moment before answering with a nervous smile, "When I was fighting Kaido…I…well…I kinda think I…may have…sorta…" Luffy rubbed the back of his head knowing how upset Chopper and everyone was about to get once they hear about how exactly he triggered Gear 5.
"Died."
Silence ripped through the Strawhats before it turned into concern, worry and flabbergasted looks.
"YOU WHAT!?" Every last one of them shouted to their captain as they rushed over to him,
"What do you mean you think you died!?" Chopper cried as he and Usopp shook his captain back and forth.
"Like I said I don't get it either! I just remember him hitting me really, really, really hard with that spiked club and then it was dark. After that I started feeling weird and my heartbeat sounded all funny for some reason." Much to his crewmates dismay, Luffy had another bright grin forming as he recalled his fight with Kaido, "I felt like I could fight a bit longer too and even when I couldn't keep it going because I got all tired, all I had to do was make my heart hit that beat and I was good as new!" The grin that Luffy had paled in comparison to the worried face Chopper was giving him.
Chopper didn't seem too pleased with that explanation, "That…that doesn't even make sense…" The doctor sighed as he already knew Luffy's body functioned differently than normal people, never in his life he heard of someone supposedly dying and coming back even stronger than before. Then again, trying to make sense of someone like his captain always left the doctor at his wits end.
Zoro took his drink, a bottle of wine that he'd brought up from the cellar already knowing the cook wouldn't bring him shit, and gulped it down, "Well as long as it makes sense to you Luffy then it really doesn't matter what we think. It's your ability after all."
The others had no choice but to follow Zoro's logic on this one oddly enough. Devil Fruit powers were kinda bizarre like that and Luffy's was no exception.
"You understand him so well, Zoro-kun. I should expect nothing less from someone of your caliber." Jinbe praised.
Zoro put his hands behind his head and shrugged, "Eh, after a while, you start to just go with the flow when it comes to him. It's not like he'd look for an in depth explanation anyway, right?"
"Shishishi! See, Zoro gets it." Luffy agreed as the others decided to follow that same logic for the time being. Jinbe and Robin both looked at each other, silently agreeing to continue discussing Luffy's strangely odd powerup at a later time.
"Well now that that's out of the way, Sanji, Meat!" Luffy was hungry after doing all that bouncing around in Gear 5.
"The food should actually be just about done. I'll go prepare everyone's plates." Sanji began making his way back to the kitchen with everyone following suit.
Luffy couldn't wait to eat more of Sanji's cooking. He was so happy that he dashed past everyone else, clearly ready to devour the food his cook had prepared for them, "Man this is gonna be so tasty-"
PLEASE HELP ME
Luffy stopped and turned around just before he was about to enter the kitchen. He looked at his crew and knew none of them had just said that.
IT'S NOT FAIR
"What's wrong Luffy?" Zoro asked.
"You guys didn't hear that?" Luffy asked back as the unknown voice grew louder and louder inside his head.
EXPERIMENTS…THAT'S ALL THEY DO…
THE BAD MEN WON'T LET ME HAVE ANY FUN
Luffy clutched his head as the voice of whoever this was had now completely overtaken anything else his worried crewmates were saying. It wasn't just that, however, the voice sounded so…so…
"It sounds sad." Luffy said to himself.
"What sounds sad, Luffy?" Nami asked.
"The voice I'm hearing. It's like with Zunesha." Luffy said as whatever he was hearing continued.
IT HURTS BUT I'M SO WEAK…
POWERLESS…
SCARED…
"It's saying it's scared."
"Scared of what?" Jinbe asked next.
"I dunno." Luffy answered truthfully.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF YOU CAN HEAR ME… BUT ON THE OFF CHANCE YOU CAN-
PLEASE SAVE ME…
JOYBOY
And with that the voice had disappeared giving Luffy a chance to collect his thoughts as his crewmates had gathered around the young man. "Joyboy?" Luffy repeated like the name held no meaning towards him, but on some faces such as Robin and Jinbe, the name Joyboy was almost synonymous with whoever this 'Nika' individual was supposed to be.
Before Luffy or his crewmates had time to follow up on any of what just went down, a small portal resembling a small sun materialized on the Sunny. Jinbe was the first to spot it, but it didn't do him any good as it had begun sucking things into it like a mini vacuum of space.
"Everybody grab ahold of something!" Nami called out hoping to get their wits together.
The small ball of space continued to grow bigger and bigger with a much stronger pull than before as Luffy could feel something coming from it with his Observation Haki.
Scratch that.
He didn't even need his haki to feel that whatever was coming from that small ball of sunshine would not harm them. The sadness that he had felt from that voice earlier was now coming from that mini portal. It was almost like it was calling out for help.
Maybe it was his own recklessness that was about to influence his decision, but the next thing that came out of Luffy's mouth shocked each and every last one of his crewmates.
"Jump into it."
"Huh? Luffy, are you nuts!?" Nami shouted as she continued hanging onto the railing, desperately trying not to get sucked in.
Zoro pulled out his sword in an attempt to cut it and was cut off by Luffy's order, "Don't try to fight it. None of us can win."
"And how do you know this?" Franky yelled as his own legs were dangling in the air from the vortex trying to pull him in.
"I can't explain it, but…I just have this gut feeling that we have to jump into this." Luffy's expression was one of absolute certainty and although the explanation wasn't sound at all, his Nakama had all the faith in the world towards their captain.
He gave them a beaming and caring smile before letting go of what he was holding onto, "So c'mon and let's gooooooooo!"
If Luffy really thought it was a good idea to see where exactly this portal takes them…
Zoro was the first to let go as he never questioned Luffy's orders. As his first mate, he had an obligation to show that the captain's orders were not to be questioned, because if he went then the others should get the memo to follow suit.
Not one to be outdone by Zoro, Sanji decided to join them. He could only shake his head at the reckless abandon from his captain, "Why are the two of you like this?" He groaned before leaping towards it as well.
"Yohohoho! I wonder just what our captain is getting us into?" Brook mused before letting go as well.
Franky bellowed a mighty laugh before letting go next, "That's Luffy for ya!"
Nami, Usopp and Chopper all shuddered imagining all the horrible things that could happen if Luffy's gut was wrong and ignoring all the obvious, sensible and safe options to choose from, they all let go as well.
Robin simply giggled at the shenanigans that were unfolding before letting go.
Jinbe…well he had the biggest grin on his face. His first real adventure as a fully fledged member of the Straw Hat pirates was sure to be a memorable one to say the least.
And with that, each of the Straw Hat pirates had been sucked into that mysterious portal with no clue in mind where it would take them.
Their captain had no idea that he, himself, would soon be experiencing a very sudden dosage of Deja Vu.
"Who is this?" An Amazonian called out as others began to gather around.
"Why is there a man on this island!?" Another spat with contempt for whoever or whatever she was looking at.
"How did he even get here? We didn't see one of man's planes? Maybe he swam?" Another said.
"Not possible. He's still completely dry and we would have been alerted if anyone managed to cross the barrier protecting this island. Call Queen Hippolyta at once!"
"I am already here, do not worry." Hippolyta walked over to the commotion with a certain calmness and grace that sent soothing waves over her people.
"Your grace." The warriors bowed before her wanting to show their appreciation to the Queen who gave them a kind smile before continuing towards the strange man before her.
She wasn't one for surprises so someone managing to bypass all of their security so easily gave her a bit of worry. Scanning the sleeping man before her she took note of how seemingly small he was. He also wasn't very bulky or tall unlike any members of the Justice League that had come to the island beforehand. In his left hand, held a seemingly insignificant straw hat.
Another odd feature he possessed was a jagged X shaped scar at the center of his chest. One that looked fatal yet someone he was able to heal from it.
However…she could sense something within him that gave cause for concern. Something that was within her own daughter and lingered amongst the atmosphere she, herself, resided in.
"Does this boy have the Gods' blessings? Why can I feel something similar within him?" Hippolyta ordered her women to begin tying this strange man up, hoping to be able to learn more of this sensation she was feeling.
One of her warriors moved to release the Straw Hat that rested in his left hand and the moment she came into contact with it, a strange wave of energy was released from the boy and one that surged across the entire area they were in.
One by one, warriors soon began falling unconscious leaving the ones that were still standing stunned at the phenomenon playing out before them.
"What on earth…" Hippolyta could only watch as this strange man, instead of showing signs of aggression or readiness to fight back against them…
"He's…smiling." She gazed at the boy who was now smiling brightly in his sleep as he had moved the Straw Hat to his heart as its resting place.
She did not know who this man was nor how he got to Themyscira, but one thing she was certain of was that whoever he was-
He held the same light that her own child held when she was young.
And that confused her more than anything.
And there we have it! The first chapter finished and the second already being written. Luffy being thrown into Themyscira parallel to how he ended up in Amazon Lily is gonna be so fun to write and the creative juices are overflowing lol.
Each Strawhat has been scattered to parts unknown within the DCAU which will be revealed slowly but surely with one being next chapter.
Hope you enjoyed and see you soon!
