A/N: We lost Kevin Conroy on 11/10. He was Batman to a lot of people and even was in Crisis for our heroes in this story as Bruce Wayne. He will be missed.
A/N2: We're reaching the end of this one. Only a little ways to go. Thanks for sticking with me.
A/N3: A shout out to Jennifer Baratta! Kate is not used to J'onn, you are correct but she'll get there. ;) Thanks!
Chapter 38
Kara was pacing at the hospital and her mind was doing the same. Nyxlygsptlnz was no longer their problem. Mxy had come back from his visit with the Fifth Dimensional authorities. They had told him to send her back from whence she came. Brainy made sure that the power disruption cuffs were on and then used the large Phantom Zone Projector to send her back.
Now as Kara waited for word from the doctors on William, Kate was busy talking with Tatiana down at NCPD. ARGUS was on their way to take custody of the very dangerous assassin, so this was the Gothamite's last chance to talk to her. She hadn't wanted to leave Kara alone at the hospital, but Alex and Kelly would be there. Nia was finally going to be getting the sleep she needed and no one was going to fault her for it. Her powers had been messed with and then they used and abused her during this whole ordeal. Brainy promised to keep an eye on her. Secretly, the Coulan was wondering if her powers had transcended to the level he had known from his own time. She didn't have the control for that level yet and it would only get worse, if he couldn't give her and the rest of the team help.
"What did William ever do to you?" Kate asked as she sat down across the interrogation room table.
"What did any of the people I've killed do?" Tatiana threw back at her.
"Point," the brunette nodded.
"Why are you here?" Tatiana gave her a look.
"ARGUS is coming to collect you and you're about to be locked up for the rest of your life. You know that though, so why did you say you would only talk to me?" Kate figured there had to be something behind it. Tatiana would not do anything for free.
"Well, you see I've kept my mouth shut so far, but I wonder how the rest of the world would take it if a story hit the papers about the current head of Wayne Enterprises?" Tatiana wondered.
"First, who would believe you and second, I'm not helping you. Wherever you go, death follows. Nothing is worth innocent people dying," Kate gave her a look.
"I figured you'd say that," a smirk crossed the assassin's face. Kate cocked an eyebrow and responded,
"So, what are you going to do?"
"It's not so much what I'm going to do, it's what I've already done," Tatiana still had a smirk on her face. Kate narrowed her eyes at her. Known for playing games, the former Many Arms of Death member could be telling the truth or just trying to make you think she was.
"If you'd have already done something, I'd have heard about it. You think this world is big and mysterious, but I have eyes and ears everywhere," it wasn't entirely true, but between the Bat Computer, Luke, Sophie, and Julia Pennyworth, she had more connections than most. Tatiana just continued to smirk and refused to say more. Kate shook her head and left the interrogation room.
"Keep a close eye on her. How long until ARGUS gets here?" The brunette asked the police officer who was guarding the room.
"The Captain is talking with them now. She'll be gone shortly," the officer said.
"I'm going to hang around," Kate told him. Despite her outward appearance, Tatiana's words had had an effect on Kate and she wondered, just what she was up to.
"Why did she want to see you ma'am, if I may of course," the officer was hesitant.
"People in my position attract all kinds of nuts. This particular one has been run out of Gotham multiple times by the GCPD, Crows, and Batwoman. I guess she heard I was in National City and wanted to see if she could get at me here," Kate was nonchalant.
"Seems that she hadn't heard about Supergirl and her friends," the officer smiled slightly.
"Seems not," Kate smiled back at him. That's when they were approached by the Captain of the precinct and two men dressed completely in black.
"Miss Kane, I hope that your conversation was enlightening," the Captain said.
"She's up to something but I can't imagine what. I need to call home and check in. See if GCPD and the Crows have heard anything. I suggest you be very careful with her. She doesn't hesitate to kill and she doesn't care who she kills, unless you become an obsession to her like me apparently," Kate told him. The Captain nodded and the two ARGUS agents went inside the room and removed the assassin.
"Be seeing you Kate," Tatiana teased as the two men moved her toward the exit, where six more ARGUS agents were waiting.
"No, you won't," Kate gave her a look before thanking the NCPD and heading out after the ARGUS agents. The brunette watched them load the woman into the back of their non-descript van and drive away. That's when she heard her phone ring.
"Kate Kane," she answered.
"It's Alex. You better get down here. It's not looking good," the redhead didn't beat around the bush.
"Shit. I'm on my way. ARGUS picked up Tatiana," Kate told her before hanging up. She hailed a cab and started making her way to the hospital.
