John Sheppard entered the room in the Daedalus and found McKay looking at the inside of the pram.
"I think she doesn't like me," McKay said to Sheppard when he noticed his presence.
John came to the pram and observed the newborn. She was awoken and pouting, like she wasn't satisfied. John chuckled and looked back at Rodney. "She'd just gotten out of the womb when you beamed her on a ship," he teased.
"Don't be so dramatic. She's two weeks old!"
"You called her by the wrong name."
"I said I was sorry!"
The two men turned their heads to the pram because they heard the little one complain.
"Not enough," Sheppard concluded, with a smirk.
The astrophysicist knew that Sheppard wouldn't miss an opportunity to remind him of this embarrassing situation. McKay had suggested that they beamed someone on the ship because McKay needed this person to save the universe. The problem was that this person was on maternity leave. Caldwell and Sheppard had been very skeptical about the idea. In the end, as they hadn't had any other better option, they had agreed.
This is how Samantha Carter had been beamed... and her baby had happened to be in her arms at that moment... and the father, Jack O'Neill, had happened to be around, holding a plate of warm home made cookies at that moment...
Needless to say that the family hadn't been very happy about this unexpected event. In particular Carter.
And then, McKay had made THE mistake.
Call the baby by the wrong name in front of everyone, in the bridge. Not the best way to convince her mother to give him a hand.
And now, the baby was stuck with McKay in this room. And crying. The scientist panicked. Sheppard seemed amused by his fellow's predicament. The situation got worse when the newborn's complain became louder.
"Why's my baby girl crying?" General O'Neill inquired while getting into the room.
McKay and Sheppard turned to him. O'Neill looked concerned.
"It's McKay!" Sheppard accused, pointing an index finger to the man.
McKay stared at Sheppard with a "Are you serious?" face. John grimaced and shrugged. He didn't really want to be the target of General O'Neill's retaliation for making his child cry. O'Neill came to the pram, ignoring the two men, who moved away. The general took his daughter in his arms and cuddled her. "Oh, what's going on, little potatoe?" he fondly asked. The two from Atlantis exchanged startled looks, taken aback by the last words. McKay looked at O'Neill. "Did you-" he started but John hit him with his elbow. The man was shaking his head and his face was telling him "Don't ask", so, Rodney didn't insist and remained silent.
As the baby was still whining, Jack checked. It wasn't the diaper. Sam Carter eventually arrived. "I'm here! I'm here!" she said, smiling and raising a hand. She looked calm despite the crisis. In fact, she knew what was going on, as she informed, "She must be hungry."
"Oh, milk time!" Jack said, less worried. He looked at the baby. "Don't worry, mamma's here to save the day!" he joked and gave the newborn to Sam.
"Thank God it's not me!" McKay sighed, relieved that he wasn't the cause of the baby's complain.
