While these disclaimers are rather pointless I'll still put one up: I don't own any of these characters, they belong to Rick Riordan and are part of the Percy Jackson series owned by Hyperion books.
Chapter I
It was the 19th of August 1993, the summer sun was shedding the first light into the small apartment of Sally Jackson. The young woman was lying in bed happy yet exhausted from the previous day, she had given birth to twins, two baby boys, two sons of Poseidon.
The two had finally fallen asleep next to her in bed and the new mother hoped to get a bit of rest. Suddenly a thin golden dust-like layer covered the floor and walls and the whole room and family froze.
With a flash two figures appeared, a tall man in a tuxedo, his dark hair pulled back into a ponytail. Next to him a woman stood, she wore dark robes and her head was covered in a hood.
With swift steps Prometheus strode over to the bed and picked up the first boy. He observed the boy for a moment, black hair already forming small curls on his head and two blue eyes frozen wide open, he looked as if he had already sensed something wrong. The immortal walked back to his companion and handed the child to her. She took the child from him and spoke a few words in an ancient language and the air seemed to bend and twist as a near invisible layer settled on him.
The Titan was about to walk back to get the other child when the golden layer started to fade and a powerful gale swept to the room filling it with the smell of salt and sound of waves. Anxiously he turned back to the woman. She had spoken another verse of ancient words as her hand stretched outwards towards Sally Jackson still frozen in time. Again the air and reality itself even seemed to shift as the Sally's eyes glazed over.
The wind picked up further in the split-second which had passed and hurriedly the two immortals disappeared as they had come, in a flash of light. As the last bit of golden energy disappeared in another flash of light a furious Poseidon appeared.
Somewhere in the extreme depths of the Pacific the two immortals reappeared child in hand, enveloped in a thin layer of air. They stood within a majestic throne room, carved out of black marble, illuminated by green-blue flames burning despite the water around them. Colorful, beautiful corals adorned it and grew in majestic arches and columns. At the end of the hall a large figure sat in a throne carved out mother-of-pearl and adorned with gold and pearls.
The huge merman sitting on top of it rose, greeting the arrivals.
"Welcome, I have awaited you, I trust everything went well?" He said and his eyes fell on the child.
"Weren't there supposed to be twins?" He asked and Prometheus shifted uncomfortably.
"Greetings Lord Oceanus, we were noticed by the boys' father, he was about to intervene and almost pushed through the power of Lord Kronos, we were forced to leave the other child, Hecate managed to lock the mother's memories of the boy beforehand." Prometheus justified himself, still leaving Oceanus looking unsettled.
"I didn't think the boy's father would notice this quickly," Oceanus said worried. "Nevertheless it is too late now, the boy must suffice, at least he will be easier to hide this way, especially with the ward you placed on him, Hecate." He said as he turned to the Titaness. "If he has noticed it, it would be better if you two disappeared as fast as possible, before he might track your presence here." Oceanus continued as he moved towards them to take the child.
"I agree." Prometheus said and Hecate nodded wordlessly as she handed the boy to the elder Titan. As quickly as they came the two immortals disappeared, leaving the son of Poseidon and Oceanus alone.
13 years later
I was happily walking through the Princess Andromeda, I finally would get a chance to meet my brother Percy Jackson. I had heard much about him, the boy who had foiled Kronos' plans and retrieved the Master Bolt, preventing a divine war that could have destroyed humanity and civilization as we knew it.
Though perhaps I should tell you a bit about myself before talking about my brother, my name was Theseus Jackson, I am thirteen years old, the son of... well that was a difficult topic. By all means Poseidon was my father and no one else, but he wasn't the immortal who raised me, not that any demigod was really raised by their godly parent.
However, I didn't grow up with my mother either, instead I had been raised by Oceanus, supposedly the Titan had saved me as a child when he found me abandoned. Though I was rather skeptical of that story as any sane individual would be, Oceanus nearly randomly rescuing a son of Poseidon? He was extremely bitter towards the god of the sea.
Not that I had much reason to complain, my life was rather good so far and by all means far better than the lives of most demigods, doubly so of my power level. Instead of the usual near-death experiences a child of the Big Three gets to enjoy through their childhood, if they even survive, I was raised by Oceanus with what was in hindsight, surprising care.
I got to enjoy tutoring by Oceanids and other servants and children of the Titan lord of the seas in all matters they considered important for the future destroyer of Olympus, before I was sent to join the Titan army roughly one and a half years ago.
What was that I hear you asking? Destroyer of Olympus?
Well perhaps I should explain that as well. At the end of World War II there was this prophecy, foretelling the destruction or preservation of Olympus at the hands of a child of the Big Three when they reached sixteen, no big deal.
Except It obviously was, because that meant that it would come down to my choice, whether the Olympus would be destroyed or not and the gods with it.
While I was rather unhappy about my father having abandoned me, I certainly was no unique case. There were hundreds of demigods on this ship that resented their godly parents more or less and were willing to destroy them and the west with it. The west was corrupt, it was a cancerous growth and humanity needed to be rid of it to start a new golden age, something like this is what Luke would probably say in his mad rants.
I wasn't blind enough to claim the West had no problems, I had my doubts it would get any bit better under the Titans. I cared little for my father, he was just that, the god who sired me, nothing more or less. But beyond a certain sense of loyalty towards Oceanus, the Titan's matters were of little concern to me, I was raised to fight for them, so I did.
Back to the part of potentially ending Olympus and my brother. The thing was I wasn't exactly sure it would be me who would make that fateful choice, I had a brother, though I doubted he knew of me, we had been raised separately and I only learned of his existence when it was no longer avoidable.
While I was under strict orders not to enter the ninth deck till they were gone I couldn't care less, Luke needed me and we both were well aware of that, he could complain as much as he wanted, but I was simply too important to their cause that such a small matter would lead to any serious consequences. I wasn't going to miss a chance to finally talk to him, no matter what Luke or Kronos wished.
If they wanted my aid they had to get it on my terms and I felt free to change them as I pleased.
I finally arrived in the corridor where their suites were located, the corridors were empty, even more than usual as the entire ship was on lockdown to appear deserted. I stopped in front of the suite I suspected them in and the loud snoring, surely stemming from the cyclops confirmed my suspicions.
Cracked the door open slightly, I peeked inside, looking around the room illuminated by early morning light. The cyclops was laying on a couch that seemed a few feet too short not that it seemed to bother him.
Percy Jackson, my brother, was sleeping restlessly in the large bed, shifting from side to side, clearly in some sort of nightmare. I slipped into the room and put my hand on a dagger from my belt. I had no intention of harming him, but I didn't know how he would react either, so I decided that caution was appropriate.
Stepping up to the bed, I took a closer look at him, he was without doubt my twin, though not-identical. We shared a lot, the cheekbones, the nose, the color of our hair. Beyond that there were some glaring differences, I couldn't see it right now, but I heard he had sea-green eyes just like father, he also wore his hair short compared to my just over neck-long hair.
I was still thinking about how to approach him, when he suddenly woke up. I quickly put my finger to my mouth and luckily he remained silent, the last thing I needed was a fight right now. He looked at me curiously, his eyes darting around frantically trying to make sense of the situation.
"Hello Percy." I whispered, removing my hand from the dagger on my hip.
"Who are you?" He hissed as he pulled his pen out from his pocket and Riptide sprung forward, the xiphos shedding a shimmer of light.
I raised my hands. "Look, I am not here to harm you, I would have killed you already if I wanted to." I paused. "You'll get your answers, I just want to talk."
He seemed to consider my words and to my relief lowered his weapon. "Fine." He said as he got up.
I signaled for him to sit down at the coffee table in the cabin as I took a seat and he followed my gesture, though he still looked on with suspicion.
"So, who are you and what do you want?" He asked, repeating his question.
"I wanted to meet you and talk. As to who I am dearest brother? Your long-lost twin." I said bluntly and watched amused at his reaction.
He looked at me perplexed. "Are you kidding me?" He asked with an incredulous look before putting his hands to his face. "Why is it I actually believe you?" He groaned.
"I don't know, but it's good that you do, saves me a lot of work convincing you, or having to swear an oath on the Styx." I started before continuing.
"Is our mother alive?"
"Huh? Mom? Yeah, she's alive and well." He answered and I nodded, that was good to hear, I had always been refused answers on that topic." I was about to ask something else when he stopped me.
"Hold up, how come you are here, working for Luke, how did they get you?" He asked and sneered at the name.
"I somehow ended up with Oceanus, I don't really know how." I said, shaking my head. "He told me he rescued me when he found me abandoned, not that I really believe that."
"What? There's no way Mom would ever have abandoned you, though she never even mentioned you, it's almost as if you never existed..." He told me and I nodded, this confirmed some of my suspicions.
"I figured as much, still it's weird how father never found me, either he wasn't able to, or he didn't care to." I replied, my voice full of spite.
My brother shook his head. "I have to admit dad wasn't exactly an ideal father so far but I talked to him... I feel like he cares for me... I think he really does. I see no reason it would be different with you. If he had known where you were he surely would have done something, I am sure of it." He stated confidently.
Percy held a surprising amount of liking for our father. This caused me some doubts, had father really been searching for me all these years? How could it be that he hadn't found me if I had spent all these years in his domain, did the titans somehow conceal me all that time? One way or another I had a lot to think about, I perhaps really had to consider who my friends and allies truly were.
"So you are working for Luke?" He asked again and I chuckled silently.
"More or less, despite what Luke might think, he can't tell me what to do." I answered. "He really doesn't want me to be here, yet here I am, I'm sure you have already realized this is a trap haven't you?"
"Kind of expected as much." He confirmed. "So why are you doing this? You could just leave, or even come with us." He offered hopefully, but I shook my head.
"I don't know Percy, I have a lot to think about, it seems the Titans weren't exactly honest, not that I expected much else, but this is still my home, Oceanus is in a way family for me, he might not be my father, but he is the closest thing I've ever had to a parent." I said hesitantly.
"Though I can promise you two things, I'll think about it and I won't let Luke kill you if I can do something about it." I paused as I turned to leave. "Keep this conversation in mind, I have a feeling we'll meet again soon, I might just have made up my mind till then but for now I should probably get going before Luke realizes I have been quite literally fraternizing with the enemy."
I walked to the door before looking back again at my brother, who sat still, clearly deep in thought.
"Fare well, Percy, try not to get yourself killed, oh and also... don't tell Luke about this, will you."
With these words I slipped out into the corridor and closed the door behind me. My heart racing as I walked through the darkness, I was feeling anxious, worried and betrayed. It seemed that I seriously had to reconsider my relationship with... well pretty much everyone I knew as a friend or ally, Oceanus had treated me well, but if what I suspected was true he just might be the reason I lost what family I actually had.
I also had to really consider who truly was my enemy and who was not, perhaps my dislike of Poseidon was a lot less well-founded than I thought, I had always assumed he had just abandoned me as well, but if Percy's judgment of him was correct that was just another bone to pick with Oceanus.
I sighed and started walking down the stairwell, that was a lot to think about for one night, not that I could sleep right now after that anyways.
A few days later I was hacking away angrily at one of the dummies in one of the many training areas of the ship. A particularly violent strike of mine cracked the wooden spine of it as the ancient blade in my hands hacked through its neck. I raised the sword of Theseus again and brought it down, splitting the rest of the dummy before sending it flying with a kick.
The blade of my namesake had been a gift from Oceanus as a gift before leaving for the surface and had grown to love it, though right now it just reminded me of said Titan. With an angry low roar I turned around and stormed into the corridors of the ship, letting my sword disappear into the celestial bronze bracelet it had been bound to.
The last few days I felt little but anger towards the Titan I had once almost considered my father. The talk I had with my brother had caused a lot of thought and emotion in me, mainly hate if I was honest.
I had moments in these last days where I was about to just rampage through the ship, to just storm in Luke's cabin and kill him before leaving this blasted ship and past behind me. Of course I knew that was insane and incredibly suicidal, I would have pretty much the entire Titan army trying to kill me while I made my way to Camp Half-Blood or whatever forsaken place I'd be safe, but it still seemed enticing to try.
Over these last days I had become more and more confident in what I more or less had realized a long time ago, I had been nothing but a tool all this time.
Which means I might just get scrapped like one after this war is done. It was of little concern who was better now, this was getting more and more personal for me, I wasn't going to let myself be used for the maniacal goals of some crazy immortals, they wanted me to fight in this war, fine then, I would fight, but for whom was still my choice and mine alone.
I had by now arrived on of the lounges at the end of the fifth deck overlooking the aft deck of the ship, I noticed that over a dozen of demigods and monsters were bustling around down there which was strange, most should be enjoying free-time or eating right now, something was surely going on. I saw Luke's bear-man guards, Orieus and Agrius walking, the crowd of soldiers parting before them. Luke was walking in front of them, the bear-twins were carrying people and I took a closer look at their prisoners.
Percy! I realized I needed to get down there as fast as I could. I turned on my heel and rushed through the ship. Dashed down the first stairs, crashing into a patrolling Dracaena, slamming into her, the weight of me and my armor throwing her against the wall. I left the hissing monster behind me as I bounded down the stairs further.
Finally I arrived on the right level and pushed past another patrol, this time in the form of mortal security, luckily they were a lot less bothered and just continued on with a glazed look. They recognized me by the rank insignia I wore and wouldn't bother me unless I straight up attacked them.
I was getting more furious as I stormed forward, almost there, I thought. Suddenly the door leading out opened and Agrius entered, mumbling something about pegasi.
This made me stop to consider for a moment, I'll probably have a fight out there if I was being realistic, I could take Agrius down right here and now. He was by all means the more dangerous of the two, his brother was just as strong as him, but he was also as stupid as he was strong.
I looked around, the mortal patrol had already passed around a corner and no one except us was in sight. I walked forward carefully letting the bear-man pass me before turning to him, I summoned my sword and was about to try and cut him down, but hesitated, the risk was too great, what if someone noticed or I didn't succeed.
No, the risk was simply too great, so I let the blade disappear again.
I reached the door that Agrius had passed through and slammed it open. A good two dozen demigods and monsters were gathered out here by now, spear tips and armor gleaming, they clearly were prepared for a fight, all the more reason to worry and also to be careful.
Luckily I didn't see or hear any sounds of a fight, so I still had time for caution. I pushed through the people violently, a few angry monsters and demigods turned around to face me but were quickly shut up with an angry glare together with my recognizable armor, the clear rank structure of the Kronos army acting to my advantage.
Standing in the second row I could now clearly see what was going on, Percy and Luke were talking. Though I wasn't sure what exactly my brother was aiming at with his questions, they were painfully obvious, who had poisoned Thalia's tree? You were going to heal Kronos?
I doubted he didn't know the answers himself, so what was his goal, buying time? I looked around and spotted the slight shimmer behind Luke, an Iris Message, a sly move, I had to admit that.
Deciding just to keep on playing my role I turned back lest I draw attention to it. Percy didn't seem to recognize me, or if he did he was cautious enough not to let it on, though considering I was currently wearing full Greek armor and a Corinthian helmet covered my head so I assumed it was the first option.
Luke barked impatiently. "You know that! Why do you keep asking me?"
"Because I want everybody in the audience to hear you." Percy said, smirking.
"What audience?" Luke asked, eyes narrowing, he looked behind himself noticing the shimmering rainbow mist behind him, his soldiers did the same and seemingly were rather shocked as they stumbled back. I couldn't help but chuckle as one of them fell to the ground next to me.
I now got a proper look at the Iris Message, the background was clearly recognizable as Camp Half-Bloods dining pavilion from the twelve tables standing around and the dozens of kids with orange shirts sitting at them. If that was Camp Half-Blood that meant the chubby red-nosed man watching us was in-fact a god, namely Dionysus himself.
Though considering the deity was supposedly rather handsome back when he was a demigod, it was hard to believe the man who looked like a depressed middle-aged alcoholic was truly him.
"Well," said the god as everyone looked at the message. "some unplanned dinner entertainment."
"Mr. D, you heard him," Percy told Dionysus and the Campers. "You all heard Luke. The poisoning of the tree wasn't Chiron's fault."
With a sigh the god admitted. "I suppose not."
"The Iris-message could be a trick," A disheveled figure argued, his eyes were baggy and his haircut messy, his voice sounded dry and raspy and he was incredibly meager and pale, he looked as if he had just crawled out of his grave a few days ago.
"I fear not, it appears I shall have to reinstate Chiron as activities director." The god of wine didn't look a bit bothered by it. "I suppose I do miss the old horse's pinochle games."
The man didn't seem to listen as he triumphantly lifted a burger in the air, laughing maniacally. I had a feeling I wasn't too far off with my assessment and was confirmed when Dionysus continued.
"We are no longer in need of your services, Tantalus," He announced and Tantalus looked shocked, before he started to dissolve with the next sentence spoken. "You may return to the Underworld. You are dismissed."
The Campers broke into thunderous cheers, until Luke silenced them as he slashed through the message.
"Kronos was right, Percy. You're an unreliable weapon. You need to be replaced." Luke said and gestured to one of the soldiers who promptly blew into a silver whistle around his neck and gave the well recognizable signal for reinforcements. As expected a dozen more fully armed demigods poured out. I began to like my odds less and less.
The current enemy presence could have been dealt with, I might have been able to incapacitate Luke at least if I surprised him. Luke was a far better swordsman and would win most fair fights, but an unexpected knife into the kidney would if nothing else temporarily disable even the toughest demigods, it would be enough time to run away at least.
"You'll never leave this boat alive." Luke stated with a smile and I let my sword appear as the troops around me readied for a fight and began encircling the campers.
I glanced around, I could strike at Luke using the moment of surprise but there was one problem, Oreius still had Percy's friends and they'd probably be demigod-goat mash after that. If I took him down, Luke would still be there though along with all his goons and turn me into Theseus lean-cut.
My sense of self-preservation was blaring at full volume just to let it happen, but I had no intention of doing so, besides being morally questionable on its own, I had given a promise to my brother, one I intended to keep no matter what.
Luckily enough this choice was taken from me when Percy called to Luke. "One on one, what are you afraid of?"
As brave as this bid to buy time was, it was little more than a death sentence for him. Luke clearly wasn't fond of the idea either, but the army was looking to him, expecting a display of force. At that moment Agrius arrived with Luke's horse, Blackjack was his name. I knew the few pegasi on board well enough to know he wasn't happy about his current arrangement as was obvious by his bucking and throwing.
Despite the pegasus' unhappiness I was relieved by this, if Luke left I would be the highest ranking officer present on board and the most dangerous enemy would be gone. Perhaps I wouldn't have to fight after all, I could create enough of a delay for them to escape and me to follow with a bit of luck.
"Sir!" Agrius called Luke as Blackjack struggled. "Your steed is ready!"
"I told you last summer, Percy," he said. "You can't bait me into a fight."
I smiled hoping Luke would leave, but to my horror Percy taunted him again.
"And you keep avoiding one, scared your warriors will see you get whipped?"
Luke couldn't back down now, this was a direct challenge to his authority. I sighed annoyed, guess we had to do this the hard way after all.
"I'll kill you quickly," Luke said, more like a statement of fact than a decision. Luke grinned like a madman as he raised Backbiter, he shouted an order out to one of the soldiers next to me, who took the bronze and oxhide shield he carried and threw it over to Luke. This was getting even more unfair than it already had been and the daughter of Athena, Annabeth, seemed to share my thoughts.
"Luke," Annabeth called, "at least give him a shield."
"Sorry, Annabeth," Luke said. "You bring your own equipment to this party."
At that moment I realized I was still wearing my shield from training on my back. I rarely used it, preferring to wield the long blade of the original Theseus two-handed as it was meant to, it was no sword for formation fighting but a weapon made for a warrior-king, dressed in the best armor Greece had to offer, it could be used with a shield, sure, but it was by no means necessary.
I slung the shield from my back and with a whistle drawing his attention, threw it towards Percy, seeing it land at his feet. Luke looked at me irritated, for the first time properly noticing my arrival. We had butted heads with each other many times before as I tended to refuse or go against his orders, sometimes out of true objection or just to spite him. The soldiers were already used to our antagonism, as me and Luke glared at each other, before he turned back to his opponent.
Percy gave me a thankful look, I presume he figured out who I was by now. There wasn't much time for thanks though as Luke lunged forward with a low sweeping strike, Percy barely blocked with my shield and sparks flew as Backbiter clashed against the blackened celestial bronze cover of it.
Going for a counterattack, Percy thrust forward with his sword, but he clearly was out of practice, he was too slow as Luke pushed the blade aside with his shield. He struck for Percy's neck next, again Percy blocked with the shield and went for jabbing riposte.
Luke seemed unfazed as he dodged side-wards before slamming Percy back with his shield. Luke was older, stronger and heavier so Percy unsurprisingly tumbled back. The son of Hermes went in again with a slash at his dazed opponent, who luckily managed to jump back in time, landing in the pool.
I knew the feeling Percy felt as he stepped into the water. He instantly seemed rejuvenated and was brought back to focus. As I would have done, Percy retreated further into it. But then he did something I did not expect, he pushed himself back diving underwater before he launched himself back out, the pool water crashing down with him as a torrent, knocking Luke down.
I had high hopes as Percy went for another strike but Luke was too swift, recovering quickly and rolling out of the way, as he got back up he performed another low cut and managed to slash Percy's left thigh, leaving a deep gash.
"I'm no longer watching this." I muttered and turned to a nearby member of Kronos' army. "Hand me your spear soldier!" I commanded and with slight hesitation he obeyed, not daring to question my rank. I took the weapon from him and turned back. Luke had driven Percy back further by now as I walked into the circle of shields and spears, I turned in Percy's direction who was in cover behind a deck chair and raised the javelin.
Suddenly I whirled around to Oreius, throwing the missile at the monster's head and in the corner of my eye I saw him dissolve with a surprised expression as Percy's friends dropped from his grip. In the same motion I charged towards Luke who barely realized what just happened as I slammed into him at full speed and sent him tumbling with the rattling sound of my armor plates crashing against his shield. I drew the dagger from my belt with my right hand as I leaped towards him.
I raised the weapon and went for a powerful strike at his exposed neck but he recovered quicker than I anticipated, dodging barely so my dagger buried itself in his shoulder instead. Then he pushed me back with his shield before following up with a wide arcing slash.
With my blade in the shoulder of his sword-arm his strike was sloppy though and I managed to back-step easily enough. Not that it mattered much as I saw the soldiers around us were anxious and saw the first about to move in with spears bristling menacingly.
"Halt!" I roared and to my delight they stopped, hesitating as they looked between me and Luke.
"What are you doing, kill them!" Luke barked angrily and on his direct orders there was no hesitation which officer to listen to as they advanced further.
The daughter of Athena, the Satyr and the Cyclops had moved to me now, forming a protective semi-circle around Percy who was still laying on the ground, the wound on his leg was seemingly a lot more serious than it looked.
I was busy thinking of a suitable quote for a death during our epic last stand, when I got rudely interrupted by the painful wails of Agrius as he dissolved, a colorful arrow sticking out of his forehead.
With the sudden thunderous sound of hooves on wood, all Hades broke loose. I had a passion for military history, even beyond my tutoring, but no book could ever come close to describing what a cavalry charge felt like, or at least what this cavalry charge felt like.
Were they technically speaking cavalry? I was rather sure the answer was no, but that was irrelevant compared to the horde of centaurs stampeding across the deck right now. Paintball bullets wildly flew hitting Luke's troops and covering everything in a mess of colors and golden dust.
To say it was chaotic would be an understatement, the wild array of centaurs dressed in party ponies themed t-shirts, football jerseys or nothing at all, destroyed any sense of order on the battlefield. Luke tried his best to maintain some form of cohesion but among the roaring battle cries and whooping he had no chance, any attempts of his interrupted by a boxing glove arrow hitting him in the face, as hilarious as it was I would have preferred a real one.
I scurried over to my brother who was still on the ground. I took a closer look at his wound, it was really deep, that was a nasty cut. I reached out to the pool and willed the water towards me. The pool water was far from the best option but it was the fastest one. I moved my hand to Percy's wound and let the water flow onto it, focusing my powers to speed up the healing. I watched as the wound closed up slowly, the flesh sewing itself together.
"Thanks." Percy muttered, still in pain and I grabbed his hand and dragged him up, supporting him on his wounded side. I saw a centaur that stood out from the others pick up the daughter of Athena and the satyr, was that Chiron? I guess I know who was behind the impromptu relief attack.
Another centaur trotted over to me and Percy. Despite his strange attire consisting of what I assumed to be a wildly decorated football helmet and a colorful shirt embroidered with some unreadable slogan, I was still thankful when he took Percy from me and lifted him to his back.
A different centaur walked up to me, he wore a weird combination made of a blue cowboy hat and a sailor's shirt. I shook my head, I wasn't one to critique fashion but that was a step too far even for me.
"You coming, chap?" I raised a brow, surprised at his British dialect, I was rather sure this was the Florida Chapter, at least according to most of the t-shirts. But I wasn't going to look a gift horse or rather horse-man in the mouth, so I just nodded and I climbed on his back and felt the centaur eagerly paw his hooves.
I looked around at the utter chaos surrounding me as I heard who I assumed to be Chiron shout.
"Withdraw, brethren!"
My eyes had by now landed on Luke and our eyes crossed, he was glaring furiously at me before turning back to his troops trying to restore morale and order among his army which was still in disarray, though more and more fresh troops began pouring out from the doors, forming into a phalanx, ready to push us of his ship. I thrust my hands out and clenched them before lifting them up.
It felt like kicking down a door as I took control of the water in the pipes around the pools. It took a few pushes but within seconds the wooden planks beneath his troops split as high pressure water shot out, disorienting and blinding demigods and monsters alike as it blasted them.
In a surprisingly coordinated maneuver the centaurs retreated just as suddenly as they came, leaping off the side of the cruise ship, hitting the docks running.
We accelerated more and more racing through the streets of Miami at break-neck speeds that felt neither safe nor reasonable, before the air around us seemed to warp and bend and we appeared in a makeshift-looking camp on a dry area near a swampy lake.
I slipped from the centaurs' back, happy at the solid ground beneath me since I put no trust in traveling through reality on horseback without even a saddle.
