Prologue
Long ago, was one land rich in magic and wonder. In the old times, there were only the six of magic. The Sun. The Moon. The Stars. The Earth. The Sky. And the Ocean. But a thousand years ago, a human mage discovered new magic - the seventh source. It used the essence within magical creatures themselves to unleash dark power. Horrified by what they saw, the elves and the dragons put a stop to the madness. They drove every last human to the west. And so, the continent was divided in two. In the east, the magical lands of Xadia. And in the west, the human kingdoms. For centuries, the dragon kingdom himself has defended the border. The humans called him Thunder, for when he spoke, his voice shook the earth and the sky.
"Roar," Queen Sarai roared.
Her beautiful six-year-old daughter giggled as her mother tickled her in her sleep. "Read it again! Read it again!"
"I think that's enough legends for one day. Time for sleep my darling," Sarai sat off the bed and pulled the covers over her daughter.
"I wish I could do magic," little Caroline daydreamed. "Do you think I could do it, mum?"
"I think you can do anything you put your mind to," her mother said, stroking her hair.
The creaking of a door opened and they saw King Harrow entering the room with a two-year-old clutching his hand and an infant in his arms. "I see you've treated Caroline to one of the library's best history logs,"
"It was so fun!" Caroline clapped her hands. "Thanks, step-dad,"
"Would you let Ezran sleep with you tonight?" King Harrow asked his stepdaughter.
Caroline nodded and shuffled to the side. Sarai hoisted Ezran onto the covers to sleep beside his older half-sister.
"Sweet dreams you two," Sarai kissed them both on the foreheads goodnight before she and her husband left the room quietly.
Caroline lay down with young Ezran drooling on her shoulder as he cuddled up to her. As she slept, her dreamy eyes stared out the window at the full moon. She wondered about the magical creatures of Xadia, the elves, the dragons, the magic. She wondered what life would be like to live in a world where they co-existed.
In his bed, a six-year-old elf with short, braided hair of pearly white stared out at the window above his bed. He heard the doors opening and turned his head to see his two parents enter the room, concerned.
"What's keeping you awake Raylan?" his mother: Tiadrin asked.
"It's the thought of humans," the young elf said. "I'm worried that they're gonna do something terrible. That they're gonna take down the King of the Dragons one day,"
"No will happen, son," Lain sat on one side of the bed with his son whilst her wife sat on the other. "Avizandum is too powerful. His thunder will take down anyone who dares to invade our lands. Those humans will know better than to set foot on Xadia,"
"We cannot assume all humans are bad," Tiadrin said. "Let us not forget that many humans had nothing to do with Ziard's discovery of dark magic and how he blinded the sun king,"
"Doesn't mean they don't have the potential to commit the same dark acts that he did," Lain reminded. "Which is why you Raylan must be prepared to defend yourself at any cost. And why your mother and I must protect the dragon egg,"
Raylan sighed. "Do you two have to go?"
"This is our duty son. Not just to Xadia. But you as well. We know as long as the Dragon Prince lives, you will be in a safer world," Tiadrin loved her son so much; she cupped his cheek, wiping away a tear. "Runaan and Ethari will take care of you. And we promise we will come and visit whenever possible," she embraced her son and so did her husband.
"We love you so much son," Lain spoke affectionately. "And we know one day you're going to make a big mark on this world as we will,"
"I promise I will make you both proud one day," Raylan swore, holding onto them gently.
But on the eve of last Winter's Turn, the humans used unspeakable Dark Magic to slay Thunder. Then, without mercy, they destroyed his only egg, his heir the Dragon Prince. Now the world stands on the edge of an all-out war.
And that's the start of Two Lands, One World. I hope you all like the look of it. I will not post another chapter until a few other stories are done and I have watched the fourth season of Dragon Prince. See you all later.
