Remebering Mother
It happened, something no one had ever thought could have happened, at least not to them at such an early age. It had happened so fast he didn't get to say good-bye. It seemed as if she had been there one minute then gone the next. The little boy only saw her twice while she was in the hospital. It had been hard on the seven year old boy.
He never would forget the last words on the phone the day before it happened. She had said she loved him and couldn't wait to come home to see him. Then the next day would change everything. He had been playing in his room when his father had called for him, in a tone that could have made even the happiest child worry within seconds.
He remembered the look in his father's eyes, they had once been happy and joyous, they were now sad and sorrowful.
He had asked his son to sit down and thought hard about how to tell him the news. "Son, I'm not sure how to tell you this but," he paused, thinking again, kneeling beside the child putting his hands on his shoulders and squeezing a little.
" mommy is walking with the angels in heaven now"
The boy remembered the shattered feeling that came with those words. Now at the age of twelve, Edd sat on the front steps to his house in the little cul-de-sac. He missed her so much, it was still hard after all those years to get over the loss. Edd's two best friends, Ed and Eddy who had been passing by on their way to Ed's house to think up a scam, stopped to talk to him.
"hiya, Double D." Ed yelled happily running over to him.
" Hey,Lumpy, wait up!" Eddy shouted from a few feet behind Ed. Ed stopped running to wait for eddy.
When Eddy finally got there, he was very out of breath. "Hey sockhead, hows it goin?" Eddy asked.
"Hello, Ed, Eddy" Double D said. This was his normal greeting for his friends. Ed and Eddy sat down with him. "Hey Double D, man, have I got an idea for a grade A scam, I" He stopped.
Ed whispered " I don't think Double D is in his happy place Eddy."Then he put his head down.
"Alright, sockhead, what's botherin' ya?" Eddy asked sitting down right next to Edd.
Double D looked up at Eddy, then up at the sky, watching the clouds go by.
" I miss her" was all he could say as the tears filled his eyes.
Eddy looked confused for a moment then looked back at Ed who was still looking at the floor.
Eddy sighed. "My mother, I remember it so well, i would play on the floor and she would be on the couch with her plastic canvas and art books"Double D said dreamily " Double D, " Eddy stopped. He didn't really know what to say to Double D. He didn't know how to comfort him, he had never been put in a situation like the one he was now faced with. Double D had seemed so distant lately, he hadn't been the same for some time. He had been thinking about her more and more latey. "Double D," Eddy started again. "I know how hard it must be sockhead" "No Eddy you still have your mother she's there when you need her to be" Double D shot back at him while tears streamed down his face and turned away.
"She is still with you Double D, maybe you can't see her but believe me sockhead she's there.
she's there everytime the wind blows, everytime you sit out in your back yard in the garden she's in the flowers planted there.
She's everywhere around you now but most of all she's a part of you Double D just as you are a part of her and nothing can ever change that"
Double D smiled. "you may just be right Eddy"
"I know I am sockhead" Eddy answered.
"well ok Eddy lets hear your idea and I'll see what I can do"
" that a boy sock head now listen to this boys"
he said pulling them into a huddle.
