It's been a few days since Kagome Higurashi traded her student life in the modern world to a Miko's life in the feudal era. After 3 long years, she finally was back with her close friends. She had lived so much things with them, that nothing could break their bond, not even being apart for a long time.
She was sad that she had to leave her mom, her brother and her grandpa behind. But finally, after yearning for the man she had left behind, thinking about him everyday, dreaming of him every night, they were together. It was the first time since her return that they had a chance to be alone.
"I still can't believe I'm here with you." said Kagome.
"Me neither..." answered Inuyasha, his eyes closed, his mouth and nose buried in her hair.
They were settled on a low branch of the hanyo's favorite tree, watching the sunset. She was sitting between his legs, her back against his chest, with his arms around her waist to make sure she was safe.
"I dreamed so many times of this... Just being with you like that, spending time together." she said.
When the well finally opened and she came back, she was surprised by all the changes that happened during her absence. Sango and Miroku had three kids already. Kaede was still there and Rin was living with her. And Inuyasha owned a house built at the border of the village.
"Kagome?" he asked. "I'd want you to come live in my hut."
She turned her torso and head to look at him. He was looking at the horizon and his cheeks were red, contrasting with his silvery white hair.
"I... I'd like that." she answered softly.
His golden gaze met her brown one. His eyes looked down briefly at her lips and back to her eyes. Sliding one hand in her hair, his other arm still holding her waist, he leaned in and kissed her tentatively. She carefully moved to face him, snaking her arms around his neck, and kissed him back. She smiled at him, before they kissed again, slowly and softly.
They had kissed before, three years ago, but this time it was different. It was the first one they exchanged since she came back. It was a kiss filled with promises, a kiss that showed how much they missed each other.
Neither of them wanted this moment to end, relishing in the presence of the other, in the warmth of their lips, in this tender moment of closeness.
Sighing, Kagome broke the kiss and hugged him tightly.
"Will you... Will you live with me?" she asked shyly.
"Yeah, once we're married." Inuyasha answered almost casually.
Kagome looked at him, wide-eyed. "Did you just... Are you asking me to marry you?"
The hanyo looked puzzled. "Well, yeah? I mean, during your absence, I made my mind that I'd marry you when you'd be back."
Tears welling in her eyes, she smiled brightly at him before crashing her lips against his. He responded eagerly, deepening the kiss, his tongue seeking entrance in her mouth. She happily obliged and their tongue moved together in a passionate dance. They eventually had to break the kiss, needing to breathe.
"Damn you taste so good." Inuyasha said in a low voice, almost a growl, making her blush.
"I can't believe this is not a dream." Kagome said softly.
They stayed perched on the tree, in the arms of each other, way after the sun had set.
Helping her down the tree and then walking hand in hand, he accompanied her to Kaede's hut.
"I'll come back tomorrow after your training, to help you bring your things to my place."
"Wouldn't it be better if... if I move in only after we're married?" Kagome asked.
"Don't worry, I'll sleep outside."
"What? No! I don't want to steal your home!"
"Keh! I got it built it for you, dummy. I've never slept in there anyway." he answered.
"O-ok then..."
They arrived at Kaede's hut. Kagome turned towards the hanyo and he kissed her.
"Good night, Inuyasha..."
"Night." he answered before leaping away.
The Miko entered the hut, welcomed by Rin and Kaede.
"Kagome! How was your evening with Inuyasha? Oh! Did you do something romantic?" questioned Rin, smiling brightly.
Kagome blushed and Kaede looked at her knowingly.
"Yes, we had a nice evening, making up for lost time." she answered. "Hum Kaede? I want to tell you something."
"What is it Kagome?" the old Miko answered.
"Tomorrow after our training I'm moving into Inuyasha's hut..."
Rin squealed in delight while Kaede frowned.
"You can't live with a man that's not a member of your family if you're not married. It's not well seen." the older woman reprimanded her.
Kagome blushed. "No! We won't be living together...yet. I will live there by myself for now. Inuyasha said he doesn't live there at the moment."
"Yet?!" Rin chimed in. "Did he already ask you to marry him?"
"Huh... Yes?" the young Miko answered timidly.
The younger girl launched forward to hug Kagome, jumping up and down.
Kaede smiled at their antics. "Alright. But you still have to be here early morning every day for your training. And don't be late." she reminded her.
"Of course Kaede-sama!"
The next day, Kagome had spent the morning with Kaede, learning about different medicinal herbs and training her spiritual powers with her bow and arrows.
Inuyasha was observing her from afar, leaned back against a tree. He was fidgeting, impatient to move her in his house.
He had decided to have a house built for her a bit more than a year ago, in hopes she would come back. No, he knew she would come back. And soon, he would be living there with her, maybe have a family. He blushed at the implications.
When he saw that she had put away her bow, he ran to her.
"Hey Inuyasha!" she greeted him, waving. "I just finished my training for today."
"Yeah, that's why I'm here. Ready?" he answered.
"Almost. I just have to gather a few things."
The both went in Kaede's hut.
"Hey Inuyasha! You're here to get Kagome-chan's possessions?" asked Rin, smiling widely.
"Yes." he answered.
"I'm so happy for you two! It's so romantic... When is the wedding?"
The hanyo almost choke on his saliva, blushing violently. "Erm... It's not really decided." he mumbled.
Kaede chuckled. "Don't be so embarrassed, Inuyasha. Everyone here know you were destined to be together."
"Keh! I'm not embarrassed."
Kagome joined him and put her hand on his biceps to get his attention.
"We didn't have time to decide the date yet. By the way, everything is ready! We can go now." she told him.
"Wait." Kaede interrupted. "Why don't we celebrate your wedding the day of the next full moon? It's in 3 days. The sooner, the better."
The couple looked at each other, blushing.
"Erm, well... If you're ready to..." the young Miko said.
"A-are you?..." answered the hanyo.
"Yes..." she answered softly.
"So it's settled then!" declared Kaede. "I'll take care of planning the ceremony. Rin will help me."
Later, after Inuyasha had brought Kagome's belongings to the hut, he was transporting the Miko on his back.
"I could have walked, you know." she said.
"Keh! It's faster this way."
They arrived at the hut and Kagome went inside. She noticed that Inuyasha had prepared the futon for tonight and that a fire was already burning, nice and warm.
"It's a lovely house. Once we fill it with everything we need, it will be perfect."
Kagome started to unpack her belongings, helped by the hanyo.
"If you need something, let me know." Inuyasha told her.
"Thank you. So far it's okay."
After everything was placed, Kagome prepared dinner with the ingredients Inuyasha had brought back from the village and from hunting. They sat on cushions on the wooden floor to eat.
"Our first meal together, in our house." the Miko said softly. "I'm still not used to all the cooking techniques and recipes here. But I'll learn."
"Hm-hm. This is good though." the hanyo answered.
"Thank you. I'm glad you like it."
After the meal was finished and the dishes cleaned, they settled near the fire. Inuyasha was sitting with his back against the wall and Kagome was leaning on his side, her head against his shoulder.
"You should go sleep. I'll stay outside to make sure you're safe." he told her.
"You're right. I have to wake up early. Thank you for everything."
She lifted her head and gazed in his golden eyes, both blushing slightly. Inuyasha put his arm around her shoulders, drawing her to him. She steadied herself by putting a hand against his chest. They kissed slowly, leisurely, enjoying the presence of each other.
When the kiss was broken, Kagome put her head on his chest, wrapping her arms around his torso. Her eyes closed, she fell asleep a few minutes later, lulled by the rhythm of his beating heart.
Inuyasha, not wanting to wake her up, took her in his arms and carefully laid her on the futon, before covering her with the bedding. He kissed her forehead softly and sat outside, just beside the entrance.
He was lost in his thoughts a good part of the night, reflecting about the fact that in 3 days, he would be forever united with her. He wouldn't be alone anymore...
