I don't own anyone except for Abigail CBS has everyone else
It was all quiet in the garage and Walter was sitting at his desk looking around at the empty space trying to envision what he wanted to turn the space into when there was a knock on the door. As he opened the door he looked at an young woman with a little boy standing behind her.
Walter- "Hello, may I help you with something?"
Woman- "Yes. Is this Scorpion Computer Services?"
Walter- "Yes it is and my name is Walter O'Brien. What seems to be the issue?"
Woman- "My name is Paige Dineen and my laptop is not working right and I don't know how to fix it. Is there anyway you can look at it to see if you can figure out what is wrong with it?"
Walter- "Of course, it shouldn't take me very long. I'm sure it nothing major. If you want you and your son can have a seat. I don't have much but right over there is a fridge with some water and juice, there is some coffee."
Paige- "Thank you very much. My son's name is Ralph and I think we are all set right now."
Walter sat down at his desk waiting for Paige's laptop to boot up to figure out the problem. For some reason he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. As it started up he sat back and watched Paige interact with Ralph. She was very accommodating to him to make sure he didn't need anything and when she touched his shoulder Ralph flinched a little, not enough that a normal person would notice but for Walter even the small movement seems like Ralph was jumping away from his mother.
Paige was sitting down next to Ralph but kept looking at Walter, something about him intriguing to her the curly hair the scar that went through his lip and down his chin which begged to be kissed, (Wait. Where did that come from?) the hint of an accent in his voice. He wasn't even her type really she tended to lean more to the jocks and Walter was clearly not a jock.
Just as Walter was about to get up and talk to Paige to tell her he figured out what was wrong a little tornado came running down the stairs from the loft above screaming "DADDY DADDY GUESS WHAT?!" As she came across the floor she noticed Paige standing there and stopped dead in her tracks.
Little girl- "Oh hello, you're very pretty, you look like you can be a princess in my movies. Are you here to date my dad? He's been really sad? Do you like princess movies? Do you want to come to my tea party? My favorite food is chicken nuggets, what's yours? Do you want to meet all my friends?"
The entire inquiry of questions happened in a span of 2 minutes and you had to wonder if she even took a breath in the middle of it. As she was looking up at Paige bouncing in place waiting for Paige to answer her, Walter came up behind her and said "This is my daughter Abigail and as you can tell she can be intense."
Paige- "Well Abigail thank you for thinking I'm pretty and can be as beautiful a princess as you are, no I'm note here to date your dad he is helping me with my computer. I'm sorry that your dad is sad but after a little bit he won't be as sad anymore and yes I love princess movies my favorites are when the prince saves the princess. I would love to come to your tea party and meet all your friends and my favorite is chicken alfredo."
Walter- "I'm sorry about that you don't have to do that I was able to fix your computer and did a few things that will make it quicker for you."
Paige- "It's not a problem and thank you for that but I'm afraid I don't have anyway to pay you right now. Will I be able to come back later to pay you?"
Just as Walter was about to tell her not to worry about it because it took him all of 15 minutes to do everything, Ralph was standing at a white board with a bunch of equations on it.
Ralph- "Walter, why do you have an incorrect answer on this board?"
Walter had a confused look on his face and walked over to Ralph looking at the board.
Walter- "What do you mean Ralph? There is nothing incorrect on this board."
Ralph- "Yes there is if you look at this one and finish it you will come up with a negative number and unless you are trying to find a way to destroy the universe you want the answer to be positive."
Walter went up to the board with a marker and quickly did the math and turned around and looked at Ralph with a look of wonder on his face. "You are correct Ralph, I was writing this down early this morning so I must not have been paying attention. Thank you for helping me."
As Walter turned around to Walk back to Paige and Abigail he noticed they were gone and he could hear giggling coming from the loft. He walked to the door to Abigail's room and saw Paige and Abigail sitting at her table surrounded by stuffed animals both wearing crowns on their heads and having a tea party acting like they have been friends for years.
Paige looked up and saw Walter looking at them and tried to hide the blush that was creeping up her face from Walter seeing it.
Paige- "Abigail, thank you for the tea I had a wonderful time meeting your friends, but I need to take Ralph home now and get some dinner."
Abigail- "Ohh daddy you said we were going to go get supper in a little bit can we have Paige and Ralph come, I have had so much fun with Paige and she's so nice. Please daddy."
Walter- "Abigail, I would love for them to accompany us to dinner but I imagine that they have to get home to Mr. Dineen. But I will see about getting Paige's information and maybe we can meet up somewhere later on ok?"
Paige- "Oh there is no Mr Dineen and we would love to go but we don't want to take away from family time and yes we can definitely exchange info so we can get together again."
Walter- "Alright Paige would you and Ralph like to join us for dinner?"
Paige- "We would love to, thank you."
Ralph- "Walter can you write down some more problems those were fun to do?"
Paige looked completely shocked and covered her open mouth with hand and as tears started to fall out of her eyes she whispered that Ralph has never talked to anyone but her and Walter answered her by telling her that he recognized that Walter was a genius like Ralph and felt comfortable.
While at dinner Paige and Walter continued to talk and she learned that he was from Ireland which explained his accent and that Abigail's mom had passed away from an illness. Abigail was bouncing off her seat because it was the first time that someone had taken the time and played a long with her story's and had believed that her stuffed animals had their own personalities. Ralph was excited because he was actually doing things that made sense to him andade him think. He knew that everyone had believed he had a mental condition but Walter was the first person that understood him. Walter explained to Paige the IQ/EQ system so she could understand that he was not a bad dad it was just he couldn't connect with Abigail on that level and that she was a better mother than most because even though she couldn't connect with Ralph she still loved him and that let Walter know that as he grew up he wouldn't have the same deficiencies that Walter had.
After a couple hours of having good quality time with the kids and more of an understanding of each other Walter asked Paige if she would like to work with him as his liaison and at the same time they could help each other to better connect with their children. Paige had felt so relaxed and talking with Walter was like talking to a best friend and Ralph had become so animated and engaging that she didn't want to give that up so she said yes. Walter was pleased because not only had her found someone to talk to that didn't look at him like a freak but he had been able to see a young version of himself in Ralph and he was committed to making sure Ralph didn't end up like him and seeing the joy on Abigail's face made him think that if he could understand her better that he could be the father she deserved.
So it had begun. Scorpion had added two more members to the cyclone. Each of the 4 had a new outlook on the future from earlier in the day. With a sense of great optimism they began to formulate ways to find more geniuses and be able to bridge the gap between normals and geniuses and figure out how to make the world a better place.
