Heyo, yet another story which will probably remain unfinished, but hopefully you enjoy the ride.
Anyway, basically this is Izuku with a wraith quirk much like talion in Shadow of War with some aspects from Shadow of Mordor.
The ability to see the future was always a useful move that Sir Nighteye could employ in order to properly form a plan or convince someone to re-evaluate theirs, so when his friend tried to continue being a hero with half his stomach and lungs gone, Sir Nighteye had no choice but to activate his quirk to show where this would lead them.
Unfortunately, what he was about to see was not going to help convince his friend to retire and would in fact create a whole new problem.
The first image he saw seemed to show a large crater in the middle of a city, emerald smoke seemed to come off everything, as though the place was engulfed by a cold green fire.
The next image was closer, showing that there was a large group of people including the symbol of peace, who was obviously still a hero.
But it was what everyone was doing that confused him.
The Symbol of Peace himself was kneeling? Gone were the blue eyes full of heroic determination replaced with a cold green waiting for instruction.
Thousands of people were kneeling around him, all sharing those green eyes, and in the middle of them was a distorted being that seemed to be the originator of the emerald smoke.
Looking at the being, he could see it was a male by the stature but it was difficult to see the face.
The next image brought him closer to the figure, not enough to view him better but enough to see the amount of bodies around him, the blood was evident, these people were dead.
His gaze was drawn to the body which was hidden by a dark fire-like shadow which had the same effect as the smoke that surrounded the area.
Before he knew it, the next image came and what he saw terrified him.
The eyes of the bodies were now open and they shared the very same green of everyone else.
Looking back to the figure, he couldn't help but be hypnotized by those red eyes, so tired yet cold and focused.
The images began to change faster and it almost became like a silent video, he saw the corpses rise before kneeling, he watched as the distorted figure ran his eyes along the rows of people.
Before they landed on where he was.
"Sasaki? Ahhh now it all makes sense" the figure realised as it put together some details that were currently unknown to Sasaki, and immediately Sasaki began panicking, in all his years of viewing the future, he only saw images, no one ever talked, let alone to him!
Questions flooded Sir Nighteye as he desperately tried to control himself long enough to get details of when this would happen, but he wasn't fast enough as the images went closer and closer into the eyes.
"SIR! WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHAT ARE YOU SEEING?" Suddenly the pro hero known as Sir Nighteye was rescued from the nightmare and put back at the hospital, a bandaged All Might looking at him with worry.
"What happened?" Sir asked, noticing that he was covered in sweat and his pants were rather moist.
"I'M NOT QUITE SURE, YOU WERE ABOUT TO USE YOUR QUIRK ON ME, THEN YOU STOPPED MOVING AND BEGAN MUMBLING, WHAT DID YOU SEE?" All Might explained the events which he witnessed, his previous quest to confirm his nemesis's demise forgotten in place of his sidekick's violent reaction to his future.
"I don't know what I saw, I don't know if it was real" Nighteye breathed out as he tried to get his body under control, a reassuring hand on his shoulder brought his attention to the big bandaged behemoth whose confidence loosened his fear enough to let him reveal what he saw.
"I saw someone, maybe a man, covered by shadow, I don't know what he could do but he had everyone kneeling before him and he could raise the dead I think" Sir explained as he tried to make sense of his vision.
"WELL THAT'S WORRYING, YOU THINK YOU COULD'VE POSSIBLY MISREAD THE SITUATION" All Might tried to calm his sidekick, surprised by how affected he was by a vision.
"No! He saw me! He talked to me by my name, and those people were not there voluntarily" Sir added as a silent fear crept up their spines, and immediately All Might understood the reaction.
"WHAT ELSE? DO YOU KNOW WHEN THIS HAPPENS? WHERE? ANYTHING?!" All Might worriedly queried as the threat became much more real, if this person could see someone spying on him from the past, what else could they do? What quirk could cause such distress in the usually stoic Sir Nighteye?
"I didn't see anything else, only the red eyes, I'm not sure, but I think his eyes are the source of his power, I was paralyzed when I gazed into them" Sir explained as he grabbed a piece of paper and drew a rough sketch, pretty much a silhouette with two red dots.
Although the sketch was rather childish, the top heroes had it burned into their minds, for a time, anyone born with a hint of red in their eyes would be watched until they were proven innocent, their quirks were taken into account and most were left alone after showing a quirk unlike in the vision.
Unfortunately as the years went on the efforts of the heroes were proven useless and a drain on funds and time, Sir Nighteye's vision was met with more criticism, mainly being that there wasn't enough information to say the red eyed shadow was as big a threat, eventually the threat level was decreased and people were able to move on with their life.
Speaking of moving on with life.
SPLAT!
A body hit the floor of an abandoned alleyway, scaring the rats that were occupying the area for a moment before they began to swarm the corpse.
As blood poured from it, the last few flickers of consciousness replayed the memories leading up to the fall.
Being born to a loving father and mother who cherished him.
Meeting his best friend, who protected him more than could ever be repaid.
He then remembered a villain holding his father hostage as he begged the heroes to do something yet even with the multiple heroes nearby, they were useless as the villain killed his hostage and disappeared.
He remembered his mother's crying, he and her would cuddle up and cry till they fell asleep.
Each night he would dream about stopping the villain, and everytime he woke up, he realised he failed.
It was this feeling of failure and weakness that pushed him to declare that he would become a hero, and prevent anyone from going through what he did.
But life was cruel to him, he had a quirk. Yet it was invisible, useless.
Eventually his friend pushed him away, and people stopped believing in his declaration and instead mocked him for his dream of being a hero with a useless quirk.
In fact, just a few moments ago his friend told him to jump off the roof so he could come back with a quirk, so why not right? His life was a joke that no-one even cared enough to laugh at, so might as well just skip to the punchline...
"What am I doing?" Izuku questioned as he stood atop the edge of a roof.
"I have a quirk and I want to be a hero, see, I'm just like everyone else" Izuku said to himself, it was something he usually said as a way of motivating himself.
However as he turned, he slipped and before he knew it he was falling, air rushed past his ears before he heard himself hit the floor, a quick flash of pain and then nothing.
"Well, that happened"
"Wake up"
The rats around the body began to squirm and squeak in discomfort before they all just POPPED!
"This is not the end for you, but the beginning"
The corpse shot up, bones cracking as they got back into place, blood vessels reconnecting and the lungs fixing the punctures in them, allowing a nice long...
"Owwwwwww" the corpse rasped as it's body painfully stitched itself back together and within a few moments the corpse was no longer a corpse, it was a child with green hair named Izuku Midoriya.
Noticing that he was still alive, despite what he just went through, he couldn't help but speak aloud.
"What? How am I still alive? Is this my quirk?" Izuku said as he felt his heart beat, it was weak but it was beating.
"Yes and no" a voice echoed from beside him, immediately he turned towards it and he was shocked when he saw himself, though this version of him looked centuries old, actually it was quite literally a ghost version of him, it's clothes ripped and tattered with age.
Due to it's look and the fact it was a ghost, Izuku's response was...expected.
A terrified scream flooded the alleyway as surrounding civilians were wondering why a little girl was in an alleyway. Fortunately for Izuku, people figured it was best to stay out of it and wait for a hero, which was also quite unfortunate for some people whose future would be drastically affected by this apathy.
"Who are you!? What do you want!?" Izuku asked as he scrambled away from the ghost.
"I am death, and I want your soul" it demanded as it's hand reached for Izuku, drawing another scream from him.
"Ha ha ha, just kidding, figured a joke like that would be a once in a lifetime opportunity" the ghost chuckled as Izuku looked at it incredulously.
"That's your idea of a joke?!" Izuku yelled as he grabbed some garbage and chucked it at the ghost, but as ghosts do, the garbage went right through it.
"You spend an eternity being forced to watch a pitiful life and you let me know if you can take it seriously afterwards" The ghost retorted as Izuku couldn't help but be defensive.
"Hey! What do you mean pitiful?" Izuku gruffed as he got up.
"I mean, you get insults thrown at you all day and do nothing, what kind of coward lets someone like 'Kacchan' disrespect him so blatantly?" The ghost mocked Izuku's childish nickname for his friend as it copied Izuku's annoyance.
"Are you saying I'm a coward for not antagonising Kacchan, that's just common sense, I can't beat him!" Izuku laughed at the notion.
"If you can't beat a guy with explosions, how are you going to beat a villain trying to kill you?" The ghost questioned, Izuku struggled to come up with an answer, sure, he had notes. But physical experience?
"You're lucky that your quirk activated by your soul leaving your body, otherwise you'd just die before you bagged your first villain" the ghost revealed, much to Izuku's terror.
"My soul is gone!?" Izuku cried as he was unable to comprehend the explanation.
"Not necessarily, more like your spirit, but soul just flows better" the ghost shrugged as if this wasn't a big deal.
"But in a very obscure sense I guess you could say I am your soul, but a term I have come to enjoy is 'wraith'" the now named wraith explained, however Izuku was still wrapping his head around the concept of a soul.
"I know this is all confusing to you, but your quirk separates your soul from your physical body without killing it, funnily enough you need to manually separate your soul by...well doing what you just did" Izuku held on every word, and when he processed them all?
He began to laugh.
"Of course! As if my life wasn't enough of a joke, I had to die to activate my quirk" Izuku laughed.
"And 'Kacchan' was right, off the roof and now you have a quirk" the wraith laughed along with Izuku who stopped laughing at the dark thought.
The wraith noticed his silence and also stopped.
"Too soon?"
"Way too soon"
"...ough on Midoriya today, he didn't look so good after school" Bakugo tuned out his followers as they walked towards the arcade.
"Eh?" Bakugo grunted at the last bit.
"Just saying he looked off, you think he'd actually do it?" Person 1 asked, Bakugo couldn't help but scoff.
"Fuck no, he's never listened to me, he wouldn't start now, will probably outlive me out of spite" Bakugo growled as he recalled his many failed attempts to dissuade Izuku from becoming a hero.
"Is that a hint of respect I sense?" Person 2 asked as he got too close to Bakugo and swung his arm around him.
BOOM!
"What did you learn?" Bakugo growled as he walked ahead of Person 2 who was recovering from the ringing in his ear.
"No touching" he answered.
Unfortunately it seemed that the alleyway that Bakugo was Infront of contained a villain who was currently running from All Might himself.
No one was under the bridge when the villain exited the sewer and so he had to make a dash to the alleyways and look for either another sewer gate or a meat suit.
And he just found a meat suit, an explosive one at that.
As expected, the kid fought back but the villain didn't expect this much ferocity, however it worked in his favour as wild explosions went off, keeping the heroes at bay.
Izuku was walking down the street, doing his best not to sound like a crazy person as he talked with his wraith.
"So why do you look so…" Izuku began as he tried to find a nice way of saying it but he wasn't able to find the right word.
"Old and decrepit?" It finished, Izuku sheepishly nodded.
"The physical body and spirit experience time differently or rather I've experienced time differently, centuries have passed for me whereas you are only 14 years old".
"What do you mean 'you've' experienced time differently? Do other spirits have different perceptions?" Izuku asked
"I'm unsure if others exist or if our 'soul' is just a result of our quirk, if the soul exists, it must go somewhere, and that is proof of an afterlife, but then…." The ghost began to mutter similarly to Izuku, obviously.
Izuku listened to the muttering, although the ghost was sort of older and had more experience, it was still learning, it was mostly as new to this as Izuku was.
"So what exactly can we do?" Izuku asked, the ghost ceased its muttering as it scratched its head.
"Well I'm unsure what we can do in this state, but I have experimented throughout the years and I have a couple ideas but no concrete knowledge, when we get home we can se-" the ghost was interrupted by the explosions that came from the next corner.
Both Izuku's smiled as the physical one took out his notebook, excited to record the fight, he was unable to make it through the crowd and had to grab a stool to see over them.
But all excitement disappeared once he saw the scene, once he saw Kacchan fighting for his life while the heroes did nothing.
It was happening again.
The villain had his dad, the heroes stood by doing nothing, he was forced to watch the light fade from his father's eyes as he smiled, trying to calm the young Izuku down.
Kacchan was going to die, the heroes would do nothing and Izuku would yet again lose someone he cared about.
Not this time
"Wait, remember the last time someone ran in recklessly" the wraith calmly reminded, whatever he was referring to succeeded in stopping Izuku from running in.
"What's your plan?" Izuku asked as the wraith pointed upwards
"We need a better vantage point. Quick! To the roof!" Izuku followed the wraiths instruction, he jumped, aiming for the ladder but his heart dropped when he just missed it, however he was surprised when the wraith grabbed the ladder and jumped upwards, pulling Izuku with it as it grabbed parts of the wall that protruded and pushed off them upwards, climbing the building with a practiced ease, Izuku was more shooked by his newfound agility and speed that trivialised climbing up a wall for the first time.
"Ok now what?" Izuku asked as he approached the edge of the roof, leaving his questioning for another time.
"Hold out your hand, I want to try something" the wraith suggested, Izuku following its instruction.
"Good, now in my realm I can summon objects I have a strong connection to, try that"
Although Izuku was annoyed at his wraith's lack of forethought, he thought of an object he was familiar with.
And a bow appeared in his hand.
"Ahh I remember when dad first took us to archery, I know you've been going for awhile" the wraith recalled as Izuku took aim.
And released.
Izuku was good with bows, though he never thought of using one as a weapon, but when the arrow hit the villain's eye, he let an almost satisfied grin show as the villain screamed in agony, giving Bakugo a second wind as he fought harder, getting his arm free before aiming his explosions at the eyes as well.
"Now this is going to come in handy" Izuku looked at the bow as it disappeared.
"Now what?" He asked as the wraith watched the heroes continuing to do nothing.
"Now we wait, we've done our part, now it's up to Bakugo" the ghost responded, and it was correct as Bakugo was releasing explosion after explosion at the villain's eye before the villain was overwhelmed and chucked Bakugo at the heroes while it ran down the alleyway, retreating before it took too much damage, the end of the alley was blocked by a hero so it began making its way onto the roof where it met Izuku's cold eyes.
"Now Izuku! Make him pay!" The wraith roared as Izuku launched his fist into the eye of the villain, making him scream more as Izuku unleashed a can of wraith flavoured whoop ass.
"You damn villains, taking everything from everyone! You all deserve the damn death penalty!" Izuku roared, his anger taking over as he remembered what happened to his dad and what this villain was doing to Bakugo.
In his rage, Izuku made contact with the villain's head, a simple touch that wouldn't mean anything usually, but in that touch, it felt like time had stopped for his wraith as it made contact with the villain's very soul.
In its curiosity, the wraith touched the soul and all of a sudden, both Izuku's were bombarded with all the horrifying crimes this villain had committed.
A child's body, slime oozing out of their orifices as the slime villain exited it.
"Thanks kid for hiding me, you're my hero" the slime villain cackled as the scene changed to another child, then a mother, and so much more that disgusted Izuku enough that he pulled his hand off the villain.
This is what this villain did, killed children younger than Izuku without remorse and this only fueled Izuku's anger more as he made contact once again, and this time the wraith did more than touch the soul, he beat it into submission, over and over for what felt like years before contact was broken.
"Die! You bastard" Izuku yelled as he continued pelting the villain with punches, and at this point wasn't even moving anymore, its eyes at the back of its head as it lingered between consciousness and unconsciousness.
"IZUKU!" the wraith screamed as it pushed Izuku off the side of the roof, just as the heroes made it up there, and all they saw was the villain. Beaten, broken and branded with a handprint.
In the alleyway below was Izuku, who for the second time had fallen off the edge involuntarily.
Fortunately it seemed that the fall didn't damage him as much, though the table he fell through left a few bits of wood protruding from his stomach.
Izuku was about to scream but a finger to his lips silenced him, the wraith used its other hand to point upwards and remind Izuku that there were heroes above.
However as blood pooled around Izuku he was really questioning if he should trust the wraith.
"Uhh I don't mean to be a bother, but I'm losing quite alot of blood here, can you like, do some wraith stuff or something?" Izuku asked as he got sleepy.
"No worries I'll get you ho-
Izuku wasn't able to focus on the wraith as for the second time once again, he had died.
Now Bakugo was feeling good, in fact he was feeling great!
He single handedly beat a villain who held him hostage, whilst the heroes did what they did best, be d-listers.
Hell, even the Number One Hero arrived after everything was done, which made Bakugo's victory all the better.
The whole time he was being checked over, the heroes kept bugging him with requests to intern with them, as if!
Today was a good day. So when he saw Deku going home, he decided to let him off, though when he looked at the ground, there were droplets of blood, all leading to Deku.
Speed walking over to the staggering form, Bakugo couldn't help but be worried, though he would kill anyone who thought so.
When he grabbed Izuku, there was no reaction even as he was spun round, and Bakugo wasn't expecting this.
Deku's eyes were closed, skin white and he was moving like a zombie.
"Deku?" He asked and like a voice automated switch, Izuku opened his eyes, a bright green glow that had Bakugo staring longer than intended.
"Oh Bakugo, yeah can you take it easy on me today, I tripped and got a nasty cut, I'm just heading to the hospital" 'Izuku' said as he continued limping.
Now this image was setting off alarms for Bakugo, for one, the hospital wasn't even in that direction.
And since when did Deku call him 'Bakugo'?
"Oi you're not Deku, what's going on?" Bakugo stood in front of 'Izuku', blocking his path.
"I can assure you, I am Izuku, I'm just temporarily manipulating his body so he can get home and heal" 'Izuku' explained as he tried to pass Bakugo, who wasn't convinced.
"Bullshit, tell me something only Deku would know then" Bakugo growled, he wanted to grab this imposter and beat him out of Deku, but the amount of blood on the floor was worrying.
"Ok then, he knows that you are terrified of him dying as a hero, that's why you try to put him down" 'Izuku' said, shocking Bakugo.
"But you have no need to fear anymore, for he had a quirk, one that has finally been activated, thanks to you" 'Izuku' said as he passed the stunned Bakugo, whose words echoed in his head.
'take a swan dive and hope you come back with a quirk'
"Dek-" Bakugo spun around, but 'Izuku' was gone.
"The fuck?" Bakugo said as he looked down the one way road, wondering how Izuku just did a 'Batman'.
So I referenced this in the story, but when I say 'soul' it's mainly so it's easier to imagine. The wraith is a version of Izuku who has his memories, but obviously has a different perspective on how Izuku reacted to everything.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed, if you didn't, that's fine.
