68: The Key to a Brighter Future
Fanfic or Original
Is there such a thing as a useless system? Really, when you think about it, any ability that lets you track, in real time, your power levels (however accurately) and growth is… well, it's not weak. Just the ability to know what does and does not work in training is busted!
Oh? You're missing that? Well, how about a storage space? A place, no matter the size, that the average person (and many who aren't average) can neither see nor access in which… stuff of one type or another can be stored? And the add-ons? The potential to have TIME ITSELF freeze within this space? Broken AF! This potion is only good for a week? You mean, a week, REAL TIME, right? Welp, not an issue for me! And unhackable? Unreachable? Un-DIVINE-able? So hax! You need this to end the world? Well, good luck getting it, buddy! Truly OP!
And that ignores other gamer constants! The dungeons? Infinite money, resources, or just combat experience FOR FREE!, Observe? Never, EVER miss your enemies' weaknesses, secrets, or identity! NEVER BE UNCERTAIN OF WHO YOU ARE FACING! No matter how limited, that is SO broken, just for meetings and negotiations! Gamer's Body? Heal ANYTHING? HELL, YEAH! Gamer's Mind? Fuck off, mind controllers! The SHOP?
So, yeah, broken.
Some systems, however, are a little more… subtle. No stats, seen it. Limited ability? Nothing new. Locked functionality? Live long enough, and that won't be an issue. In other words, as a supplement, there is no gamer system that isn't broken. Or very few anyway. Some are just… duds. It happens.
Then you come across odd ones. Like the Unlocking System. In simple terms: do things, get energy. Spend energy, unlock things. That's it. It's even somewhat expensive. It takes ten reps of a calisthenic to get one energy, and ten energy to unlock a common lock. In other words, Saitama's famous workout only opens thirty to forty house doors. In other words, not that great.
Or is it? After all, with enough energy, you can unlock… anything! Except for new system functions.
Those come at milestones.
So, can you make it with such a… 'lame' system? I look forward to seeing!
