Poem:

Greatest Torture-

The scar it burns, like vengeful claws pricking me whenever you cross my mind.

Anguish contorts inside me making me wither and shrivel in unknown fear.

In my dreams the darkness is so deep only the shining sheets of perspiration let my eyes see you.

I can't reach you, I can't touch you, and I can't flea from you.

Yet I can feel you and I can see you.

With arms so long and nails so dark you try to strangle me.

Death, you say, shall love me one day soon, forced by your hands.

The sound of your voice, the pain you bring me as your nails gouge my flesh during these horrid dreams,

To this death can never compare.

Your naked flesh against mine is exhilarating in all these hellish dreams,

But each cold whispered death threat cancels out those waves of pleasure.

Why can't we play, why can't we talk like in the days long past?

Because of one stupid war, a few bloody fights that we couldn't control.

Because the one life that I took was the one of the man you worshiped.

I loved you far deeper than I could have shown at that point in time.

Now that I'm older I know of ways to tell you,

I know vivid ways to make you feel my infinite devotion.

But, with your choice of rancor I will never get the chance.

So now on the off chance I'm not dreaming of your vindictiveness,

I dream of what could have been.

For all your threats and all the physical pain you bring me though,

I have to tell you you're not succeeding in exploiting my greatest torture.

There is always one torture that causes me greater suffering.

Like clockwork it comes each early morn to haunt my soul.

It's the one thing that we can control.

Don't you know?

My greatest torture is the barren spot next to me on my bed.
