Chapter 9
"hey beautiful" Arizona said answering her phone.
"hey" Callie said, Arizona could hear the smile through the phone.
"how's it going there?"
"good actually, Richard managed to get everything back, and we're good to go"
"that's good to hear"
"it is" she sighed "did you hear from Sarah yet?"
"no, not yet" Arizona smiled "wait hold on I just got a text from her" she pulled the phone away from her ear to read the message "they are leaving soon"
"ok, I shouldn't be too much longer, pull something out of the freezer to throw on the grill for supper"
"ok"
"do you want me to pick anything up?"
"um, let me see what we got first" Arizona said going into the garage where they kept the freezer, "we should be good, unless you want to get some adult beverages, I know we are running low"
"yes we are, ok I'll make a stop" Callie said. Arizona heard someone call her name in the background "baby, I gotta go, I'll let you know when I'm on my way home"
"ok" Arizona smiled
"I love you" Callie whispered
"I love you too" Arizona smiled knowing she whispered it not because she didn't want anyone to hear her, she whispered it because she wanted only Arizona to hear it, Arizona pulled the phone away from her ear shoving it in the pocket of her shorts as she finished rummaging through the freezer pulling out some rather large steaks.

Arizona was in the kitchen rummaging through the cupboards, one of Jamie's songs blasting from her phone, which was setting on the counter. Singing along she was belting out the chorus as she turned dropping the box she was holding. "I thought you went to Disneyland?"
"I'm glad I didn't" Teddy laughed "I haven't heard you sing like that in a long time"
"I didn't think you were home"
"well we are" Teddy said with a smile. April came up behind her placing a kiss on her cheek as she passed her on the way to the fridge.
"well I'm gonna need more steaks then" she smiled heading towards the garage
"nah, we're meeting Laura and Jo for supper" April said turning around as she opened the can she had just pulled out of the fridge.
"oh, ok" Arizona said turning back towards the sink
Teddy looked at April who smiled and nodded whispering "go ahead"
"um, Zo" Teddy said in a nervous tone, although she wasn't sure why she was nervous, she knew her sister would be happy for her, if not ecstatic.
"hmm" Arizona said not turning from the sink
"um, we um" Teddy took a deep breath "we have some news"
"news?" Arizona repeated
"yeah"
"ok"
"can you turn around, I want to see the look on your face" Teddy said, she was trying hard to stall
"ok" Arizona said turning around, grabbing the towel to wipe her hands "what is it"
"um, we, um" Teddy was tripping over her words, April sighed, stepped closer to Teddy, putting her arm around her she said "we got engaged last night"
"oh" Arizona said turning back to the sink "wait what?" she said in mid turn
"we got engaged last night" Teddy said now that April had saved her, she could talk
"seriously?" Arizona tossed the towel onto the counter, seeing both women smile and nod. "oh my god" she said almost knocking them both over as she crashed into them. "mom's going to flip, both her girls are getting married"
"um, Zo"
"shit" Arizona pulled back, realizing she hadn't even told them about herself being engaged
"you never told them about you and Callie?" April asked walking to the table to sit down
"no, I um, no I forgot to tell them"
"maybe we should go home for a weekend" Teddy said, although the thought of going back didn't really excite her, she missed her parents.
"or" Arizona smiled "we could have them come here"
"that would be cheaper" Teddy smiled "instead of the four of us flying there" Teddy was always looking at ways of saving money, which Arizona thought was good considering she didn't have a job.
"yeah" Arizona said laughing "I'll call later"
"ok but don't tell them"
"I won't" Arizona shook her head, turning around to finish what she had been doing when Teddy came in.

"hi mom" Arizona smiled into the phone, it had been awhile since she called, and was feeling a little guilty after hearing her voice
"oh Arizona hello" she heard her mother say in a tone that let her know she wasn't happy with not hearing from her in so long
"sorry I haven't called, I've been swamped at work" which wasn't a complete lie, Sarah was one of her authors.
"yeah sure" Barbara said and let out a laugh "honey I know you're busy, I'm just busting your chops"
"hanging out with dad too much?"
"no, he's actually been staying busy playing golf with Richard"
"oh Mr. Webber? How's he doing?"
"he's good, had him and Ellis over for supper last night"
"that sounds like fun" Arizona said trying to care but in reality, she just wanted to get this conversation over.
"totally" Barbara sighed "I miss my girls"
"we miss you too"
"Teddy never calls, I can't remember the last time I heard from her"
"yeah, she's been busy" Arizona smiled, doing April, she chuckled quietly
"doing what? I know she doesn't have a job, and she's probably mooching off you, you can't afford that" she started going off
"mom, it's ok, living with Callie and April we're doing great"
"who's April?" her mother asked
'Dammit Teddy' Arizona cursed "she's my assistant" she said quickly
"why is your assistant living with you"
"she needed a place to stay and Callie offered her one of the extra bedrooms" 'yeah Teddy's' she smiled her mother was going to flip finding this out 'maybe I should just get to the point of this call' "um mom, we were wondering if you guys would like to come out"
"oh I don't know, your father is pretty busy lately"
"please mom" Arizona sounded like she did when she was a teenager and her and Joann wanted to stay out late "you guys have never been to Cali, I know you'll love it"
"well, I'll talk to your father"
"I'll pay for the plane tickets" Arizona said "and you can stay with us"
"how many rooms does that house have? You already have 2 other people living with you"
"trust me, it'll work" she smiled
"I will talk to your father" she said again. Arizona heard in the background "talk to me about what?"
"the girls want us to come visit" Barbara said not bothering to cover up the phone
"mom just put the phone on speaker so I can talk to the both of you" Arizona said then sighed 'I'm going to kill Teddy'
"oh ok" Arizona heard her tapping buttons on the phone
"it's the one that looks like a speaker" she said loudly
"I know I got it" she said "are you there?"
"yes mom I'm here" 'good god I'm glad I don't have to deal with them every day'
"hi honey" she heard her father say
"hi daddy" she smiled
"you want us to come for a visit"
"yes, actually Teddy and I have some news and we want to tell you in person"
"why can't you two just come home" Barbara said not understanding
"um" Arizona said "will you come?" there was a pause and she heard some whispering and finally she heard her father say "we'll have to find someone to watch the house while we're gone"
"good" Arizona smiled
"when?" he asked
"as soon as possible"
"well" he said pausing "I will look at my book and see what works"
"sounds good, call me back when you know, and I'll get the tickets"
"I'm not letting you pay for it you can't afford it" he said
"dad, I'm good, just let me do this"
"fine" he said, Arizona could see him rolling his eye, she smiled she usually got her way with him. Teddy on the other hand had their mother wrapped around her little finger.
"alright I have to go, let me know when you can come" Arizona said breathing a sigh of relief
"alright honey, tell Teddy we love her" Barbara said
"I will, love you"
"love you too honey" Daniel said. Arizona, hit the end button, tossing her phone on the coffee table, rolling her eyes and sighing before she yelled "Theodora get your ass down here"

"shit" Teddy said pushing April off her, they were in the middle of a make out session.
"what?" April asked confused as she almost fell off the bed
"Zo must have just got off the phone with my parents"
"so?" she asked confused
"I haven't told them about us"
"what" April said standing up "why the hell not?"
"I don't know, it hasn't come up" Teddy said tossing April her shirt as she put on her shorts, she saw April roll her eyes as they heard Arizona call again "Theodora get your lazy ass down here NOW!"
"yup" Teddy said as she hollered "coming, sorry had to put clothes on unless you want to see me naked"
"not really" Arizona said she was too pissed to laugh "why the fuck didn't you tell mom you and April are together?"
"it didn't come up" Teddy said sitting down on the couch
"make it come up" Arizona said "I suggest you tell them before they get here"
"how'd you find out I didn't tell them?" Teddy asked shyly
"I told mom April was living here, she asked who April was"
"she knows she's your assistant" Teddy said
"I know she must have forgot, what I'm getting at is I fucking lied for you, so I suggest you get on the phone and tell them the truth"
"I'll do it tomorrow" Teddy said sitting back on the couch
"no, you'll do it now" April said handing Teddy her phone, why she had it she wasn't sure, looking down she realized she had Teddy's shorts on. Laughing to herself she realized why she had it.
"later" she said tossing it on the coffee table. Arizona leaned forward grabbing it she tossed it at her and said "NOW" as she got up and left the room. "ugh fine" she sighed picking up her phone. Arizona saw her punch some numbers in then heard "hi mom" she shook her head and finish climbing the stairs. She didn't want to hear the outcome of the call.

Arizona found herself sitting on the bed thinking about Joann, and how it was when she first told her parents about them. Although that felt like a lifetime ago, she knew what Teddy was going through. Hoping that her parents reacted the same way they did back then. Lost in her thoughts she didn't hear Teddy come in, scaring her when she felt the bed push down with the added weight. She shook her head seeing her sister sitting there "well I told them" she sighed
"how'd it go?"
"mom yelled at me for not telling them sooner"
"see told you"
"you don't understand" she said looking away
"what is it I don't understand? The fact that you just told our parents that you're gay. Or the fact that you waited so long to tell them?" Arizona said "cuz in case you forgot, I am gay too, and I came out to them a long time ago"
"sorry" Teddy said looking down
"don't be, it's done now"
"yes it is" she sighed "anyway we are headed out, Laura text and said Jamie and Sarah were leaving"
"ok" Arizona smiled "have fun"
"we will" Teddy said standing up "Zo"
"yeah"
"I'm sorry I waited to tell them and put that on you"
"it's ok, they know now that's all that matters"
"yeah I don't know what I was worried about" she smiled
"I get it" Arizona winked as she stood up pulling her sister into a hug. "now to tell them we are both engaged"
"this should be fun" Teddy laughed.

"hey beautiful" Arizona heard through the phone
"hi" she could feel herself blush
"I'm on my way"
"that's good Jamie and Sarah are already here"
"shit, I was hoping to be home before they got there, oh well" Callie laughed
"its cool" Arizona said looking at Jamie
"I'll be home shortly, still wanting those adult beverages?"
"um, yes please you're gonna want one after I tell you what happened earlier"
"uh oh, doesn't sound good"
"it is now" Arizona smiled "I'll see you in a few, love you"
"ok" Callie said, "I love you" and made kiss noises in the phone. Arizona felt herself turn red, when she saw Jamie and Sarah chuckling.
"sorry we shouldn't be laughing Jamie does it to me all the time" Sarah smiled
"and Laura laughs when she hears it, so does Jo"
"luckily Teddy is never around when she does it"
"speaking of Teddy, I overheard her and Laura's conversation, she never told your parents about April" Jamie asked
"well, if you don't want to hear this story twice, I'd rather wait to talk about it until Callie gets home"
"fair enough" Jamie smiled sitting back in her chair. Arizona shook her head, letting out a laugh.

"so tell me what happened today" Callie said, it was after dinner and they were all sitting by the pool enjoying the adult beverages
"well" Arizona sighed "apparently Teddy and April are engaged"
"what" Callie said spitting out her drink
"yup" Arizona laughed
"when did this happen?"
"last night"
"oh that explains why they were in such a hurry" Sarah chuckled
"yeah" Arizona said "anyway we decided instead of the four of us heading home to tell them we'd have them come here"
"you're parents are coming?" Callie asked looking around at the house, she had a frightened look on her face
"yeah" Arizona said "just wait there's more" she took a deep breath "so I called my mom, while talking to her I was informed that Theodora neglected to tell them about her and April"
"oh she got full named" Jamie laughed
"yeah not too often" Arizona sighed
"so did you end up telling them?" Sarah asked
"no, I lied, well kind of, but I didn't tell them, I made Teddy call and tell them"
"that must have been funny"
"after April and I both argued with her that she had to do it now, she seemed a little upset that Teddy hadn't told them" Arizona went on "anyway, I'm not sure when they are coming yet"
"hmm" Callie said "It'll be nice to see them again"
"have they ever been here?" Jamie asked
"no" Arizona shook her head "the last vacation they took was to Wisconsin dells" she laughed
"that's not a vacation" Jamie laughed
"no, but when you're from where we are it was considered one" Arizona laughed "they had fun"
"that's good, Laura and I used to drive there for a day, it was only an hour drive" Jamie said looking at Sarah
"remember that one time we went?" Sarah asked winking at Jamie
"it was what? Our second date?"
"you're funny"
"what?" Jamie asked with a smile
"it was well after that"
"oh I'm intrigued now" Arizona smiled
"me too" Callie said leaning over putting her arm around Arizona
"well go ahead" Sarah said sitting back in her chair, crossing her arms. Jamie smiled and started her story. "ok it wasn't our second date" she winked at Sarah "with the comment I made, I know you think I don't remember it, but I do" she paused smiling "we drove down for the weekend, it was our first time spending the night together"
"how long were you together before that?" Callie asked
"about a month?" Jamie said looking at Sarah who nodded
"and you hadn't slept together yet?"
"no" Sarah chimed in "we both decided to wait"
"baby don't give them shit, it took us that long to have sex"
"I know" Callie said
"and I for one am glad we waited" Arizona smiled leaning over kissing Callie's cheek.
"I was too" Jamie said looking at Sarah who smiled "I guess there's not much more to say about that trip"
"yeah I'd prefer you not go into detail about that night" Sarah said turning red as laughter erupted. Arizona felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. Pulling it out she looked at it "it's my mom, I'll be right back" she added heading into the house.
"so, have you gotten a ring yet?" Jamie asked
"no, I haven't really had the time to go shopping"
"we should go tomorrow" Jamie said taking a drink
"sure, if we aren't too hung over" Callie laughed holding up her drink then taking a long pull.
"you two can do that and I'll hang with Arizona, she said we have some paperwork to go over"
"don't make her work on the weekend" Callie said rolling her eyes. Sarah was about to say something when Arizona came out "well I guess they are coming this weekend" tossing her phone on the table, looking at Callie "so soon?" she asked
"yeah, apparently after Teddy's phone call, my mom thought that she needs to come out and check out what's really going on out here" she used air quotes then shrugged her shoulders, "they'll be here Friday, plane gets in at noon" she rolled her eyes
"you going to be able to get off work to get them?" Callie asked
"if not Teddy is gonna have to"
"I can send a car for them" Jamie smiled
"no, you don't have to do that" Arizona sighed "Teddy or I or both will pick them up, I'll just make sure I'm able to leave early"
"ok" Callie smiled, the conversation shifted from there.

"oh" Jamie said setting her third beer down on the table "I wrote a new song"
"when did you do that?" Sarah asked
"I've been working on it" Jamie winked
"well sing it" Arizona chimed in, she was feeling a little buzzed, after the phone call with her mom she felt she needed it,
"I don't have my guitar" Jamie laughed
"hold on" Callie said jumping up, almost knocking over the table and scaring the group. Disappearing into the house, coming back a few minutes later with a guitar "I have one" she smiled handing it to Jamie
"guess I'm singing" Jamie smiled taking the guitar from Callie, placing it on the all too familiar resting place, as she tuned it
"it's probably way out of tune, I haven't used it in…. well forever"
"I didn't know you had it" Arizona looked at her confused
"yeah I used to play, my mom signed me up for lessons when I was 8" Callie said sitting back in the chair she had vacated
"I didn't know that either" Arizona mumbled as she watched Jamie strum a few cords, she was excited to get a private concert. She still couldn't believe she was friends with Jamie Davis. The Jamie Davis who she'd spent long days and nights listening to and singing her songs. She was lost in her thoughts when Jamie's voice brought her out, singing the words to the song Joann used to sing. Callie joined in, their voices went perfectly together.
"Just say you won't let go, Oh, just say you won't let go" they sang in unison, Callie staring right into Arizona's eyes, both swelling with the unshed tears. Jamie smiled, watching her friends, Sarah broke the silence "damn Callie that was good"
"yeah it was" Jamie said setting the guitar down leaning on the side of her chair
"huh? What?" Callie said coming out of the trance that was Arizona's eyes
"you're voice is amazing" Jamie smiled
"the two of your voices fit perfectly together" Sarah said smiling
"I have an idea" Jamie winked, Callie gave her a quizzical look "I have this new song, I was going to try and get Miley to sing with me, but" she paused seeing Callie shake her head "no, no I don't sing in front of anyone"
"you just sang in front of us" Arizona laughed
"that's different" Callie said closing her eyes
"well hear me out" Jamie said, seeing her roll her eyes she heard "fine"
"just try it and see how it sounds" Jamie said looking at Sarah, trying to remember the words she had just recently wrote down in her notebook. Callie rolled her eyes smiling "ok" Jamie reached over picking up the guitar again, "hold on I'll be right back" she said setting the guitar back down and almost running through the house.
"what the hell?" Arizona asked speaking for both her and Callie
"I'm betting she just remembered her notebook is in the car" Sarah smiled taking a drink. Arizona could tell she was used to the way Jamie was, they all shared a laugh when Jamie came back a few minutes later holding up her notebook she used for writing her songs. "thank god it was in the car" she smiled sitting down "now it'll be easier" she started rambling as she found the right page, holding it out to Callie explaining how she wanted it to go. "ok I think I got it" Callie smiled nervously. She watched as Jamie picked up the guitar again, placing it on her knee. Callie moved closer to her so they could both see the lyrics. Jamie started playing the notes on the guitar as Callie started

Jamie smiled as they sang the next parts in unison their voices a perfect mixture of what Jamie was looking for "They don't know how long it takes, Waiting for a love like this, Every time we say goodbye. I wish we had one more kiss, I'll wait for you, I promise you, I will… Lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been. Lucky to be coming home again. Lucky we're in love in every way

Callie was getting into it by this point belting out the next part. "And so I'm sailing through the sea. To an island where we'll meet. You'll hear the music fill the air I'll put a flower in your hair"
Jamie came in at just the right point. "Though the breezes through the trees. Move so pretty you're all I see, As the world keeps spinning round. You hold me right here right now
Their voices joining again, for the last part of the song "Lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where I have been. Lucky to be coming home again. I'm lucky we're in love in every way. Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed. Lucky to be coming home someday. Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooooh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh"
"oh my god they are amazing" Sarah whispered as she almost fell off her chair leaning over to talk to Arizona
"yes they are" Arizona said, she couldn't take her eyes off Callie. "could it be possible I'm even more attracted to her now?" Sarah smiled a knowing smile as she sat back in her chair she knew the song was coming to a close "my god, baby, that was" Arizona paused she couldn't think of the right word
"completely amazing" Sarah finished for her
"yeah I don't know"
"you were amazing" Jamie said, setting the guitar off to the side again
"you're voices together" Sarah smiled shivering in her chair "gave me a boner"
"Sarah" Jamie laughed making the drink symbol with her thumb and finger
"what" Sarah laughed "Callie you should record that with her"
"no I'm good"
"oh come on" Jamie pleaded "it'll be awesome working together"
"I'm not a singer"
"you just proved you were"
"yeah I" she stopped taking a deep breath. Looking at Arizona who smiled "I'll think about it" she said shrugging her shoulders.
"yay" Jamie said clapping and jumping in her chair
The next chapter is still in the works. I have it most the way done, just adding some finishing touches, I'm hoping the writing gets better as I wrote most of this years ago. The Robbins are coming... lol Thanks for reading...
