If Annabeth and Leo and Nico were the feral trio. Joined by two younger ones, they are the Ruthless Ones. (Or, a canon universe without Luke or Thalia or Percy, and a few time things shifted and we see these terrors on the streets.)

2. Chapter 2

She did most of the speaking. Especially to outsiders. She had been a respectable young girl, a nice girl, a good girl. Her cousin helped sometimes He had been in society longer than any of the rest. He had lived a good, if a bit isolated, life for more than ten years.

Leo had been ostracized to the point of social isolation. He only spoke in Spanish for most of his life. He knew English but wasn't great at talking to people.

The youngest boy had barely been outside. He had never been to school. They were teaching him to read.

The oldest boy was from 1942 Italy. 2011 America was foreign and strange.
