Devon vs Byron
After spending the night at the Canalave City Pokemon Center, picking up their Pokemon from the nurse, and having breakfast, The Eds leave the Pokemon Center.
"Okay, boys, time to head down to the Canalave City Gym and get our next badges." said Eddy.
"And after that, we'll be only two badges away from entering the Sinnoh League." said Edd.
"Yeah." said Ed.
"Then lets go." said Eddy. They cross a small drawbridge that goes over a canal, and soon, the Eds were standing in front of the Canalave City Gym. Eddy turns to Ed. "Are you going first, lumpy?"
"You bet, Eddy." replied Ed. The Eds enter the gym. Once inside, they saw that the battle area has large rocks all over it. Standing on the far end was a tall muscular man with burgundy hair, wearing a white top, white gloves, gray shredded work pants, boots, and a brown cape while holding a shovel, but what got the Eds attention is that standing on the other end of the arena was Devon.
"What!? Devon's here!?" exclaimed Eddy. Hearing Eddy, Devon turns around and spots them.
"What are you dorks doing here?" asked Devon.
"I'm here to challenge the gym leader." replied Ed.
"Well you'll just have to wait, dork, I was here first, so I'm battling Bryon first." said Devon, waving his thumb at the man on the other end of the arena, now identified as Byron.
"So he's the gym leader?" asked Edd.
"Yes. My name is Byron." said Byron. "If you boys want to battle me, you'll have to wait until I finish my battle with this trainer."
"Very well. We will wait." said Edd. He turns to Eddy. "Think of it this way, Eddy. We can learn not only what type of Pokemon Byron uses, but you can study Devon's strategies so you can be ready for him next time you face him."
"Good idea, Double-D. Okay, let's watch." said Eddy. The Eds walk over to the bleachers and sit. Devon looks at them.
"Now you dorks are going to see a real trainer in action." said Devon.
"But Ed has to wait until after your battle." replied Eddy. Ed and Edd chuckle in response while Devon frowns. On one side of the arena, a muscular man was standing there, acting as a referee.
"This will be an official gym battle between Byron the gym leader and Devon, the challenger." said the referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." Byron takes out a pokeball.
"Come on out, Bronzor." said Byron, throwing a pokeball, releasing a round, flat, bluish green Pokemon with yellow eyes onto the field where it floats around. Edd takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Bronzor, the Bronze Pokemon. X-ray photos were taken to check its body structure, but nothing was seen." said the pokedex.
"It says here that Bronzor is part-steel and part-psychic." Edd says to Ed and Eddy. But Eddy kept his eyes on Devon, who takes out a pokeball.
"Houndoom, come out." said Devon, throwing a pokeball and releasing a black, canine-like Pokemon with long, gray, curved horns coming out of its head. Edd points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Houndoom, the Dark Pokemon. Long ago, people imagined its eerie howls to be the call of the grim reaper." said the pokedex. This causes Edd to shudder.
"Well, it would seem Houndoom would have the advantage." said Edd. "Houndoom is part fire, part dark type. Psychic type attacks would be useless against it, and steel type moves won't do much damage against fire types.
"Bronzor, use Hypnosis." said Byron. Bronzor becomes surrounded by a red aura and Houndoom soon becomes surrounded by it and it falls asleep. Devon frowns in response.
"Ha! Looks like Houndoom's sleeping on the job." said Eddy. Devon glares at Eddy, then at Houndoom.
"You better wake up, Houndoom!" exclaimed Devon.
"Bronzor, Tackle" said Byon. Bronzor flies at the sleeping Houndoom and rams it, making it tumble on the arena floor. Houndoom suddenly wakes up.
"It's awake, already?" said Edd.
"Yeah, dork. My Houndoom has the Early Bird ability, which makes him able to wake up from the sleep status condition quicker." said Devon. "Now, Houndoom, Taunt." Houndoom turns around and shakes its rear at Bronzor, making it angry.
"Clever. Now Bronzor won't use status moves for a while, so it can't use Hypnosis." said Edd.
"Bronzor, use Tackle again." said Byron. Bronzor flies at Houndoom.
"Counter with Fire Fang." said Devon. Houndoom opens its mouth and its mouth becomes covered in flames. Houndoom leaps at Bronzor and bites it, causing super effective damage due to fire type moves being strong against steel types. Bronzor suddenly becomes covered in flames. Devon smirks.
"Oh dear, Bronzor is burned." said Edd. "So now it'll take a little damage and its attack is weakened."
"That's the idea, dork." Devon says to Edd. Eddy glares at Devon in response.
"Quick, Bronzor, use Tackle." said Byron. Bronzor flies at Houndoom and rams it, but not doing much damage due to its strength weakening from its burn condition. Bronzor winces in pain from its burn. It floats down to the floor a little.
"Now use Payback." said Devon. Houndoom becomes surrounded by a dark aura and it rams into Bronzor.
"Oh dear. Payback's power is doubled when the user is hit before the attack is used, and since Bronzor is part psychic type, Payback will cause more damage to it due to Payback being a dark type attack." said Edd.
"Exactly, dork." replied Devon. Eddy growls in response. Payback proved too much for Bronzor to handle and it falls to the floor with swirly eyes.
"Bronzor is unable to battle. Houndoom wins." said the referee. Devon grins in response while Eddy frowns. Byron returns Bronzor to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Bronzor. You earned a rest." said Byron. He puts Bronzor's pokeball in his pocket and pulls out another one. "Okay, Steelix, you're up now." He throws the pokeball and releases a large, serpentine Pokemon with a silvery gray body. Edd points the pokedex at it.
"Steelix, the Iron Snake Pokemon and the evolved form of Onix. It chews its way through boulders with its sturdy jaws. Its eyes can see in the darkness underground." says the pokedex.
"Okay, Steelix, use Dragon Breath." said Byron. Steelix opens its mouth and unleashes a green beam of energy out of it and it hits Houndoom, making it stagger back. It becomes surrounded by electricity and it shudders.
"Dragon Breath has a chance of paralyzing its target." said Edd. Devon frowns while Eddy smirks.
"Try using Fire Fang." said Devon. Houndoom was able to fight through its paralysis and leaps at Steelix with fire in its mouth and it bites onto Steelix, doing super-effective damage due to Steelix being part steel. Unfortunately for Devon, Fire Fang did not burn Steelix.
"Now Steelix, use Rock Slide." said Byron. Gray rocks appear behind Steelix and they fly at Houndoom, hitting it, doing super effective damage due to rock type moves being strong against fire type Pokemon. Houndoom struggles to stay standing.
"Houndoom, Fire Fang." said Devon. Unfortunately for Devon, paralysis kicks in, preventing Houndoom from attacking.
"Now use Sand Tomb." said Byron. Steelix's eyes glow blue and a whirlwind of sand appears around Houndoom and consumes it, causing super effective damage due to ground type attacks being strong against fire types. Houndoom couldn't take it anymore and it collapses to the floor with swirly eyes.
"Houndoom is unable to battle. Steelix wins." said the referee.
"Yeah!" cheers Byron.
"Woohoo! In your face, Devon!" exclaimed Eddy. Devon glares at Eddy, then he returns Houndoom to its pokeball and glares at it.
"Such a disgrace." said Devon. The Eds frown in response. Devon puts Houndoom's pokeball in his pocket and pulls out a Net Ball. "Tentacruel, come out." He throws the Net Ball and releases a light blue Pokemon with multiple tentacles, a red orb on each side of its head and one above its black lower body that had a long blue appendage coming out of it. Edd points the pokedex at it.
"Tentacruel, the Jellyfish Pokemon. It alerts others to danger by stridently flashing the red orbs on its head." said the pokedex.
"All right, Tentacruel, use Water Pulse." said Devon. Tentacruel raises up two of its tentacles and forms a ball of water and launches it at Steelix, hitting it, causing super effective damage to to water type moves being strong against Steelix, who was part ground type. Steelix's eyes glow red and its eyes turn swirly and it moves around, dizzily.
"Oh dear. Steelix is confused." said Edd.
"Steelix, try using Slam." said Byron. Steelix swings its tail and successfully smashes Tentacruel with it.
"Bubblebeam, Tentacruel." said Devon. Tentacruel unleashes mulitple blue bubbles from under its appendage and they hit Steelix, causing super effective damage due to Bubblebeam being a water type move. Steelix begins to sulk.
"Oh my. Bubblebeam has a chance of decreasing a Pokemon's speed." said Edd.
"Steelix, try Sand Tomb." said Byron. Steelix's eyes glow blue, but it winces in pain due to confusion kicking in.
"Tentacruel, Water Pulse." said Devon. Tentacruel launches another ball of water at Steelix, hitting it. Steelix falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Steelix is unable to battle. Tentacruel wins." said the referee.
"Good work, Tentacruel. You made up for Houndoom's failure." said Devon. Eddy glares at Devon, his face turning red and smoke coming out of his ears. Byron returns Steelix to its pokeball.
"You did well, Steelix." said Byron. He puts Steelix's pokeball away and pulls out another. "You've done well so far, Devon, but lets see if Tentacruel can handle this. Bastiodon, come on out." He throws the pokeball and releases a yellow and gray Pokemon that looks like a dinosaur and a bulldozer mixed together with a square head resembling a castle wall. Edd takes out the pokedex and points it at the new Pokemon.
"Bastiodon, the Shield Pokemon. When attacked, they form a wall with their shield-like faces to protect their young." said the pokedex.
"Bastiodon, Ancient Power." said Byron. Bastiodon's body glows white with energy and it forms the energy into a silver ball of energy and it launches it at Tentacruel, knocking it to the ground. Bastiodon begins to bulk up and it begins shaking.
"Oh my. Ancient Power has a chance of increasing the attack strength, defense, and the speed of the Pokemon that uses it." said Edd. Eddy grins in response.
"Tentacruel, Water Pulse." said Devon. Tentacruel launches another ball of water at Bastiodon, hitting it, causing super effective damage due to Bastiodon being part rock, but not much due to its defense being increased by Ancient Power. Water Pulse did not cause confusion to Bastiodon.
"Bastiodon, Take Down." said Byron. Bastiodon charges at Tentacruel and rams into it, sending it flying and crashing into one of the large rocks on the arena floor. When the dust from the crash clears, Tentacruel was knocked out. Bastiodon winces in pain due to Take Down causing recoil damage to its user.
"Tentacruel is unable to battle. Bastiodon is the winner." said the referee.
"Yeah!" cheered Byron. A wide smile appears on Eddy's face while a frown appeared on Devon's. He returns Tentacruel to its Net Ball.
"Disappointing." said Devon. The Eds glared at Devon for disrespecting Tentacruel.
"Oh come on, it tried its best!" exclaimed Eddy.
"Whatever." muttered Devon. He puts Tentacruel's Net Ball away and pulls out a pokeball. "Machoke, come out." He throws the pokeball and releases a Machoke.
"His Machop must've evolved." said Edd. He then notices that it looked purple underneath Machoke's eyes which were glowing red and it was surrounded by a red aura. "What's wrong with Machoke?"
"If you must know, dork, before I showed up here, I had Tentacruel use Poison Sting on Machoke so it can be inflicted with the poison status condition so I can activate its Guts ability." said Devon. Ed and Edd gasp in shock, Eddy's face was getting redder than earlier, even Byron was shocked by Devon's action. "Don't worry, I gave Machoke a Sitrus Berry after that, so now its stamina is full."
"Until its poisoning takes away a bit of its stamina." said Edd.
"Who cares?" said Devon. He turns to Byron. "Let's continue this battle."
"Very well. Bastiodon, Metal Sound." said Byron. Bastiodon's face glows blue and vibrates, making silver soundwaves emit from it and lands on Machoke.
"Metal Sound weakens a Pokemon's defense." said Edd.
"No one asked you, dork." said Devon. "Machoke, Vital Throw." Machoke runs at Bastiodon, grabs it, lifts it up and throws it to the ground, doing a massive amount of damage due to both steel type and rock type Pokemon being weak against fighting type moves like Vital Throw as well as Guts increasing Machoke's strength. Machoke winces from the pain caused by its poisoning. Bastiodon struggles to get up.
"Quick, Bastiodon, Take Down again." said Byron. Bastiodon charges at Machoke and rams it, making it stagger back, but it remained standing. Bastiodon winces from Take Down's recoil damage. Devon grins.
"Machoke, Revenge!" said Devon. Machoke becomes surrounded by an orange aura and unleashes it into a massive beam and it blasts Bastiodon, causing super effective damage to it. The attack also caused a massive explosion, causing the Eds, Devon, Byron and the referee to shield their eyes. When the explosion cleared, Bastiodon laid on the arena floor with swirly eyes.
"Bastiodon is unable to battle. Machoke wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Devon." said the referee. Devon crosses his arms and grins while Eddy glares at him with his face crimson red. Byron returns Bastiodon to its pokeball.
"You were great, Bastiodon." said Byron. He puts Bastiodon's pokeball in his pocket and walks over to Devon who returns Machoke to its pokeball. "Even though I don't approve of you poisoning your Machoke before our battle to acitivate Guts, you still won, so I must reward you with the Mine Badge." He gives Devon a badge that looks like three stones and three pickaxes combined, along with pokedollars. Devon puts the badge in his badge case and puts it in a black hiking backpack and the pokedollars in his pocket. He puts on his backpack and looks at Eddy who was glaring angrily at him. "If you have a problem with me, dork, we can settle it at the Sinnoh League." As he turns to leave, Eddy quickly runs up to him.
"WE WILL!" Eddy yells in Devon's ear. Devon covers his ears.
"Tone it down, dork. I'm sure everyone in Canalave City heard you." said Devon with a pained expression. He turns and exits the gym. Ed and Edd walk over to Eddy while Byron walks over to them.
"As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, I'll battle one of you boys." said Byron.
"I'll battle first." said Ed. Byron nods and exits the gym while Ed walks to one end of the arena and Edd and Eddy return to the bleachers as they wait for Byron to return.
