Chapter 20: Exodus

Marcus and Maya were walking down the streets of Marshall, Maya was wearing her yoga pants and yellow jacket. Marcus was wearing his orange jacket jeans and boots, they were walking to the police station to stock up on ammo. As they were walking, they noticed Carl and a couple deputies patrolling the streets. "Have you heard anything about Lawton?" Maya asked Marcus. "Not much, since our meeting she hasn't pushed the issue about forcing us to join." Marcus replied. "Her enclave is going to fall. With only the police armed and there only being three police, her ideas are going to fail." Maya told Marcus. "I know, she loves the power. I've traded some resources with them. Carl is a good guy. He and the judge butt heads a lot over her views." Marcus replied. They walked in the police station, Marcus started filling his rucksack. A noise startled them, they stood up and turned around to see Judge Lawton standing there with Carl and his deputy Brendan. "Looting our ammo? The work of outlaws. I got half a mind to arrest you." Lawton told Marcus. "Look around you lady, there is no laws anymore. The government is gone." Maya told Lawton. "I'll hand you over to Sheriff Parsons." Lawton told the pair. She looked over at Carl, with a serious tone on her face she said. "I expect you to throw the book at them." She said before leaving the police station.

Carl and Brenden cuffed Marcus and Maya, they walked outside when Sgt Tan's voice came over the radio. "Eagle Six to base, we got civilians overrun by Zed. About 200 yards east of our position, requesting permission to help." Tan's voice said. "Negative Eagle Six, remain on station." Montressor's voice replied. "My ass remain on station! these people are getting their asses handed to them!" Tan exclaimed. Carl walked behind Marcus, he uncuffed him and then Maya. "Go help, I'll talk to the judge." Carl told Marcus. "Thank you." Marcus replied. He and Maya ran to the truck, they got in and drove off towards the farm. "That's the Erik Tan I know, he always helps his fellow man." Maya told Marcus. "He didn't seem to be helpful, turning out Karen and Anson." Marcus replied. "He is following orders, but seems like he is fed up with his superiors." Maya told Marcus.

Erik and his men were standing at a small radio tower in the middle of a field, he spotted a truck driving towards them. The truck pulled up and parked, Marcus and Maya got out. "Anyone who doesn't want court martialed, stay here. The rest of you, let's go." Erik told his soldiers. He walked up to Maya. "Corporal." He said with a smile. "Sergeant." Maya replied. "Thanks for coming." Erik told Marcus. "No problem." Marcus replied. "You two ready?" Erik asked the pair. "Yeah, let's do this." Maya replied. The group walked towards the farmhouse, they charged in where a small group of survivors were fighting off a large swarm of zombies. The group immediately went to work, they killed the zombies as fast as they could. A feral jumped in the door and attacked one of the soldiers, he pounced on the soldier and picked him up. He ripped the soldier in half before looking at the rest of the survivors. Maya shot the feral with a headshot, killing it.

The group finished off the rest of the zombies, the desperate survivors looked at the group. "Thank you. I thought we were done for." They told Erik. "Just glad you're safe." Erik replied. He looked at Marcus and Maya, they were standing there putting their weapons away. "Thanks, your help means a lot. Listen, I know a guy in artillery. Anytime you need air support. Let me know." Erik told them. "Thanks." Maya replied. "I'll see you two around." Erik told them. He looked at the dead soldier laying in front of him then at his crew. "Well, nothing left here. Let's go." He told his platoon. The army left the house, Marcus and Maya got back to their truck and drove off.

They pulled up in front of The Alamo restaurant, Marcus parked the truck and got out with Maya. They walked in the building where Lily was sitting at the radio. "We got problems." Lily told Marcus. "What is it?" Marcus asked. "Lawton was here, she says we got to leave town. Or at least move out of this side." Lily replied. "We still got supplies here we need to get! That woman is getting on my nerves!" Marcus said angrily. "I know, but she says if we don't relocate she is gonna force us to join her enclave." Lily replied. Marcus sighed, he looked at Lily. "Okay, let's have everyone pack up. We're going to Snyder's Trucking on the other side of town." Marcus told Lily. "I'll put the word out." Lily replied. Marcus and Ed started packing up. Maya climbed up the ladder to the roof, Amy was sitting there reading a book. "Hey, we gotta pack up. Help me take these tents down." Maya told Amy. "Okay, we moving again?" Amy asked in response. "Yeah, The Law is squeezing us. We gotta leave." Maya replied. Amy put her book down, she started helping Maya break down the tents.
