Oh, look around you

Look down the bar from you

The lonely faces that you see

Are you sure that this is where you want to be

These are your friends

But are they real friends

Do they love you the same as me

Are you sure that this is where you want to be

You seem in such a hurry to live this kind of life

You've caused so many tears and misery

Look around you, take a good look

And tell me what you see

Are you sure that this is where you want to be

Don't let my tears persuade you, I had hoped I wouldn't cry

But lately, teardrops seem a part of me

Oh, look around you, take a good look

At all the lonely used-to-be's

Are you sure that this is where you want to be

Kate stared into the fire. It was the night of the "separation" between the survivors. Most of them had gone off with Jack into the jungle. She had stayed behind with Sawyer and the others in case rescuers came.

Now she was starting to regret her decision.

Kate herself didn't even know why she hadn't gone with him. Maybe it was because she felt like she needed to have time to make a decision about her feelings towards him. Or maybe it was because she thought he didn't like her. He probably thought she liked him just because he was the "hero" around here. Her last possibility was that he hadn't persuaded her to come with him because of her cold attitude towards him on the beach.

Whatever the reason, it came down to the fact that she was sitting here on the beach, and he was sitting in the jungle.

It also came down to the fact that she missed him, but what she was unsure of was if he was missing her.

She had felt comfortable around Jack for the few days she had known him, though she never really knew why. The other survivors were nice and everything, but with Jack she could be herself. She could say what she wanted, do what she wanted, and be what she wanted. It didn't matter to him that she was a criminal. He had said so himself that he didn't care, that everyone on the island deserved to start over. At least that's what he had thought until today.

Flashback:

Jack and Kate had come back from the cave. Kate was sitting on the beach staring out to sea while Jack was trying to convince some of the survivors to go with him to the cave.

When he was done talking to a group of them he came over to Kate and sat down.

"Are you coming?" he asks.

"I can't just dig in." she replied.

"How did you get this way? What did you do?" he demands.

"You had your chance." Kate retorts.

As he stands to walk away, Jack says, "Well, if you need me, you know where to find me."

After he is out of hearing distance, Kate replies, "And you know where to find me."
