Borderline
Barrel to flesh. Steel to throbbing vein. Swallow. Breathe. Bullet.
He's pitchblack suffocated, awake and dreaming scarlet dreams. Hungry moonbeams eat into rotten holes and slice at paling skin. Heart lost in a labyrinth. Hand around the gun.
Five, four, three. Trigger. Two. One. Bang.
White knuckles grip at silver, slippery with sweat. Lips twist out of shape as he chokes on laughter and dust. His mind breaks into technicolour, envisioning a beautiful corpse. Black and gold and blue-grey tone, candle wax and blood.
He hears the walls vibrate, inciting claustrophobia, creaking in and cracking bone. He smells blood against the metal, pulsing thick and fast. Bites down on his tongue. Tastes the flow of copper.
Crystal beads of perspiration slide past blind gutters, like long forgotten tears. His muscles coil as wire, ready for the shot. A scream inside his head.
And the heat rises.
He speaks with faint conviction, voice a quiet ghost.
"Adios."

-...Silence.
He reels in stone paralysis, frozen stiff and in the dark. The air holds - solid as a rock. He breathes into nothing, as the scream drops to a whisper. The bed shifts; the walls turn to liquid and start to ebb away. The room rocks with broken echo and death becomes a distant whim. The barrel glints in the moonlight, but the moment's gone.
The hand quivers, soft as jelly as he draws himself away. He moves the gun from the sleeping mariachi's temple, and buries it under the pillow.
