Before the movie there was a ballad. And now after the movie, I give you "The Story of Mulan" in the style of Disney. 17 stanzas of a condensed story present.

The Story of Mulan
Disney style

All maidens gather for a test
That will bring honor to their families if they pass
Mulan, who does make a lovely bride, tries her best
Yet, the matchmaker fails this lass.

Drums of the imperial army roll with a ring
Out limps Fa Zhou with his cane
"One man from each family must join the army," Chi Fu does sing
Taking his scroll Fa Zhou stood proud on the lane.

Torn between honor and family Mulan must decide
Off with her long hair and silk dress, and on with the gear
Against female practice she will ride astride,
Steal her father's sword and dress what men would wear.

Companions aid her along the course;
One being a dragon named Mushu whose role is to guide her.
Who could forget Khan, her faithful horse
And little Cri-Kee who brings luck for sure?

Mulan has to take Ping, the name of a man
And meet Captain Li Shang whose orders are terse
A distressing life he does deman'
Though the bullying brutes are much worse.

Training day and night
Together growing strong
Unknown to the men that a woman can fight
And prove them wrong!

A chance for Ping to shine;
At the pass he takes the last canon for an aim
Shan Yu charges, with his horse that let out a whine
Before Ping could get away Shan Yu's sword came.

An avalanche the last canon start
Ice tumbling over the stampede of Hun
Driving Ping and Shang apart
Causing the shortest battle to be done

Luck has it be Ping win that day
Fate has it be what is revealed true
We know they would find out some way;
A woman amid the crew!

An execution of a female soldier is the law
But how can the captain kill someone who saved us all?
He drops his sword that's what the men saw
And left her there in the cold, where her spirit may fall.

Left behind Mulan watches the biggest of Huns break the ice
And Shan Yu pop up with an angry cry that could drive
To realize these fighters have to be beat twice
Mulan must go warn China the Huns are alive!

Everyone shows up to greet the parade of heroes in town
When they should be jeering, they cheer,
Not aware these soldier's hearts are down
Because the true hero is not there.

Mulan hasten to warn them the Huns are in the city somewhere
Comrades and people ignore her, anyway
And so, Shan Yu grabs the emperor before anyone could get near
Finally everyone listens to Mulan without delay.

The palace subdued, and burning flames swished
Here the emperor's life is at stake
How can the Huns be vanquished?
--Not listening to Mulan was a mistake!

This battle Mulan must brave
What a clear headed warrior she can be
For that the emperor she does save
With the help of the Gang of Three.

All bow to Mulan for her noble deeds
Make way for China's hero
But for Mulan, nothing could better the family she needs
Thus that is where she will go.

Even in all the adversity
That blossom became the rarest.
By revealing its true beauty
It became a father's dearest.
