Chapter 1- The Meeting

"Mom! Lets go!" Nicole yelled down the stairs.

"We still have 20 minutes!" her mother responded.

"But it take 15 to get there! Plus, it's rush hour!" Nik sighed. If she was late for this, she would be screwed.

"Fine!" Said her mother, coming up the stairs.

They were getting ready to go to the meeting for Marching Band. Originally, Nikki was going to play soccer in high school. But then she began to figure, she might not even make the soccer team. She wasn't exactly the best player there was. If she did marching band, she would definitely be able to do it. At her high school, they accepted everyone into the marching band. Plus, some of her very best friends were going to be in marching band, and most of the people that played soccer, she didn't exactly get along with. So it would probably be better for her this way.

Her mother drove her to the high school for the meeting. The went into the band room, which was about twice the size of the one at her middle school, and were greeted by some of the high school band members. They handed her and her mother each a booklet of information. Immediately, she spotted a high schooler she knew, Rachelle. It was a girl she had met the previous year during track. They had worked on the same events together, and had become pretty good friends.

Nikki went over to Rachelle and they started talking. Nic found out that Rachelle was the Colorguard section leader.

'Hmm…. Cologuard… that sounds like it might be kinda fun.' Nik thought to herself. "Hey Rachie, does it matter if you've been in guard before?"

"No, why?"

"Because I was thinking about doing it this year. I'm going to go ask my mom."

Nicole went over and found her mom, talking to the mom of her best friend, Jessi.

"Hey, mom can I go colorguard instead of band?"

"Why would you want to do that? You don't know how."

"But I know the section leader, and she said it doesn't matter if you've done it before or not."

"I don't know… I'm not sure if you could do that."

At this point, Nikki went over to where Rachelle was sitting, and asked her to come convince her mom that it didn't matter whether or not you had been in colorguard before, you could do it anyway.

---Later that night---

"But dad…" Nicole began to argue.

"No, you can't do it! You've never been in colorguard before, what makes you think you can just start now?"

"BECAUSE THEY EVEN TOLD US THAT IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE'VE DONE IT BEFORE OR NOT! THEY TAKE ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO'S WILLING TO TRY!!!!" Nic screamed and ran up to her room.

--Author Notes--

Yea, I know, it was kinda short. But they will get better, I swear. But some boring things just have to be explained before we can get into the really interesting parts.
