Hey guys! Here I am again. This time we're taking a look at the year 2019 was for Sora and Yamato. As always, I couldn't finish it all on time because I'm working on a lot of things at the same time, but I will update it again soon. I hope you still enjoy it.

Chapter 18: 2019 - Conceiving a Baby

Sora woke up with the faint noise of her phone ringing. She squinted as she tried to make out who it was. "Hello?"
"Sora, you won't believe what happened."
"Mimi, do you have to scream so loud?" She moved the phone away from her ear and Mimi's voice still echoed around the bedroom clearly.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm just so excited."
"You do know it's like seven o'clock on a New Year's, right?"
"I know, but I had to tell you this."
"Aren't you supposed to be sleeping right now?"
"I haven't slept yet."
"What?! Mimi!"
"I'm going to sleep after we hang up, I promise. Can I please say what I've been meaning to now?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"I'm pregnant."
"Wait, what?!" Sora screamed and sat up all at once, looking at Yamato right away. Luckily for her, he didn't seem to be woken up. "You're pregnant?"
"That's right." Mimi said excitedly. "Hideaki and I have been trying for so long and now it finally happened!"
"That's great, Mimi." She forced herself to say. "I'm really happy for both of you."
"Thank you, Sora. I was dying to tell you, but we thought it would be better to wait until the first trimester was over."
"I see. It's a very wise idea, if you ask me."
"I think so too." She paused for a moment. "Well, I'm finally going to sleep now."
"Alright. I'll talk to you later, maybe."
"Deal. I'm sorry for calling you so early, but I really wanted to tell you as fast as I could."
"It's okay, Mimi. Congratulations."
"Thanks! Okay, I'm off to bed. Bye."
"Bye." Sora stared at her phone for a moment before rolling on her bed and placing it on her bedside table.
It took her a while to fall asleep again because she couldn't help but feel jealous of her friend and because tears wouldn't stop coming down from her eyes. She cried in silence, believing she was the only one up, but Yamato had woken up since she ended the call with their friend.

"Baby?" Yamato walked into the living room and then slide the glass door that led to their balcony open, to find his wife sitting on the bench with a cup of hot black coffee in her hands. "There you are. What are you doing here?"
"I was just wanted to be on my own for a while."
"Right." He sat down beside her and bit his lower lip, but still couldn't stop himself from saying what he wanted. "Are we going to talk about Mimi's news?"
"You heard it?" Sora looked at him visibly surprised. "I thought you were sleeping."
"It was a little difficult with her screaming on the phone. It was an absolute silence, with made her voice echo louder."
"I'm sorry. I should have answered it somewhere else."
"That's okay, don't worry about it." He assured her. "I do get worried about you though."
"I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me."
"Sora, you were crying after the call ended. You may have done that in silence, but I could still hear it."
"Oh." She didn't know what else to say, so she simply took another sip of her coffee.
"It bothered you, didn't it?" Yamato insisted.
"It didn't bother me." But she tightened her hands around the cup.
"You can lie to me all you want, but know you're lying only to yourself. I can see right through you." He removed the cup from her hands and grabbed them within his, making her look at him. "What's bothering you?"
"Why do we have to wait so long for this?" Sora finally let it all out. "We have been struggling so much with it and it seems so easy for other people. It seems kind of… unfair."
"I don't know what is happening." His expression softened a little and it became full of hope. "But I do know it will happen eventually. We just have to believe it."
"Maybe we're not meant to be parents." She said bitterly and let out a sound that resembled a laugh.
"I don't believe it." Yamato squeezed her hands a little tighter. "I just think it will happen to us eventually. We can't lose hope."
"I wish it was that easy. You do have a point though. It's just awful knowing Mimi is pregnant and Akiko is almost halfway through and we're still here."
"I know, baby." He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her into a hug. "I feel the same way. But I refuse to believe this won't happen to us."
"I'm trying to, but it's so frustrating."
"It is. But hey…" He pulled her away and grabbed her hands again. "I want you to know there's nothing wrong with you or me, okay? It's simply not our time yet. It doesn't mean we don't deserve it."
"Thank you for cheering me up." She leaned towards him and wrapped her arms around his back, bawling.
"You're welcome." He rubbed her back gently. "Come on, let's have some breakfast. It's on me today."
"Is that so?"
"Absolutely! What do you want to eat?"
"How about some bubble waffles?"
"I should have bet you'd say that."
"Hey!" Sora playfully hit him on his back. "Am I really that predictable?"
"More than you think."
"Wow, I'm hurt."
"Do you want a kiss to make it better?" Yamato teased her as he turned around.
"That would be nice, actually." Sora gave a step towards him and placed her hands on his hips, looking up into his deep blue eyes.
"Alright." He followed her suit. "But only one."
"What happens if I like it and want another one?"
"Sorry, baby. The deal is for just one kiss."
"That's a little unfair." She pouted playfully.
"Take it or leave it, baby."
"I'll take it."
"That's a very wise idea." He whispered in a sexy voice while he caressed her red hair softly before capturing her lips in a passionate and deep kiss.

"Those are really good!" Sora's face beamed with happiness after she ate her first bite of the bubble waffles Yamato had just made.
"I'm glad you liked it. Your face says it all." Yamato was having a lot of fun with her reaction. "So I passed the test?"
"What?"
"You're the one who usually makes them. I wanted to know if mine is just as good as yours."
"Oh, absolutely! I even dare to say they're better than mine."
"That's a lie. They can't possibly be better than the ones you make."
"They are, trust me."
"Are you trying to win me over? To get me into bed or something?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Sure you don't." He rolled his eyes, but couldn't help but grin. "Are you feeling better now?"
"I am. Thanks for cheering me up. You are really amazing."
"So are you." He stopped beside her and bent down, kissing her briefly but passionately. "I don't like seeing you upset. I love seeing you smiling and feeling happy like you're right now."
"I love you." Sora stood up and wrapped her arms around his body, resting her head on his chest.
"I love you too, baby." He reached for her hand and began to pull her towards their bedroom. "Come on."
"Where are we going?"
"It's a little cold here. Let's get warm."

Yamato walked into their bedroom carrying a bowl with popcorn and placed it in the middle of the bed and lied down right after.
"They look yummy." Sora grabbed a handful of it.
"Hopefully they taste the same. They smell yummy."
"They do taste yummy."
"Good." He grabbed a handful himself. "So what are we going to watch?"
"How about an action movie this time?"
"Action?" He looked completely surprised. "I don't remember you ever saying you liked this kind of movie."
"I usually don't, but I thought we could try something different this time. But we can totally watch something else if you want to."
"No, it's totally fine to me."
"Great. So I'll let you choose it."
"Okay, let's see what we have on." Yamato grabbed the remote control and started flipping through the channels. "This one is good."
"Will they shoot the entire movie?"
"No, it's just this scene, I promise."
"Have you seen it?"
"A few years ago, at Taichi's house."
"How come I didn't know about this?"
"I did tell you about this." He looked at her. "When he accidentally dropped soda on his mother's brand new rug."
"Oh, I remember that."
"It was that day." He put the remote control away and grabbed another handful of popcorn.

.

Yamato came home on Valentine's Day with a large bouquet of sunflowers. He was surprised to see the whole apartment in darkness, because Sora was usually back home by then. He picked his phone up and was about to call her when he noticed a faint light coming from the hall. He looked over and saw the lights from their bedroom were on. So he placed the flowers over the table and headed there.
"Hey, baby." He immediately walked to bed and crawled towards her, kissing her hello. "I thought you weren't here. The lights were off."
"Yeah, I know. I was so caught up here that I lost track of time."
"I figured. What are you doing with this calendar?"
"I thought I could make a calendar with all the weeks I'm ovulating." Sora looked at him concerned.
"What?"
"Is that too much?"
"Maybe."
"I knew you wouldn't be happy with it." She bit her lower lip and Yamato thought she'd cry for a moment.
"It's not that I'm not happy about it." He put the calendar away and grabbed her hands, forcing her to look at him. "It's just that I think you're obsessing with it again."
"I know. I know." She sighed with frustration. "I tried to stop, I swear. It worked greatly at first, but now…"
"Hey, it's Valentine's Day. So why don't we go do something romantic? Go out for a candlelight dinner, maybe?"
"Baby…" She looked at him with a suspicious expression. "Are you up to something tonight?"
"Who? Me?" Yamato pointed to himself, faking innocence. "No."
"Are you sure?"
"I may have booked a reservation at your favorite restaurant."
"Why didn't you tell me? I could have been ready by now."
"I wanted to make you a surprise, but I got stuck at work."
"Well, do we still have time for it?"
"I guess so." He shrugged and looked on his watch. "The reservation is at 8:30pm and now it's 7:45. So we have half an hour to get ready and arrive there at the exact time."
"I think that's time enough." Sora jumped out of their bed and quickly sat in front of the mirror, to put on some make-up.

When Sora was ready to leave, she was surprised to see Yamato standing on opposite side of the hall with his hands hidden on his back.
"What's going on? What do you have behind your back?"
"Why don't you come closer and see for yourself?"
She began to get closer to him and soon the smell of flowers invaded her nostrils. She was unable to control her smile, which got wider when he showed her the bouquet of sunflowers.
"I stopped by a flower shop and got you this. It's been a long while since I gave you flowers, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity.
"They are perfect, baby. Thank you so much." She reached up and kissed him briefly. "I love this romantic side of yours."
"I'm happy to hear that." Yamato ran his hands through her arms and then stared at her up and down. "You look so stunning."
"So do you." Sora followed him suit and reached for his right ear. "By the way, you haven't seen me underneath this coat." She giggled and grabbed his hand, dragging him out of their apartment. "We should leave now or we'll be late for the reservation."

Both of them were astonished with the Valentine's decoration in the restaurant. Their table was at the back of the first floor, in a quieter area.
"Did you ask for this table?" Sora asked. "I really like that it's a more private area."
"I didn't, but I agree with you. I love having more privacy."
"I know what you mean. Should we exchange the gifts now or wait until after we have dinner?"
"We can do it now. It will take a while until food arrives."
"Alright." She pulled out a thick medium sized package and handed it to him. "This is yours."
Yamato began to open it and minutes later came across a book. He didn't mean to, but unconsciously raised his eyebrows. "Guide for first-time fathers?"
"I heard it's a very useful book and we're trying to conceive a baby, so…" Sora stopped talking abruptly. "You didn't like it."
"No, no." He said quickly. "I did like it, believe me. I just don't think it's the ideal gift for Valentine's Day, you know?"
"I know, I'm sorry." She sighed. "In my defense, I bought this before we talked about me obsessing over pregnancy and motherhood and all. I can return it and get you something else."
"It's okay. I think it can be useful too."
"Are you sure? I feel really bad for messing it up."
"I'm sure." He grabbed her hand and squeezed it lightly. "I'm sure it will help me with tips on fatherhood."
"You're not saying this just to please me, right?"
"I'm not, I promise. I actually think this can be helpful."
"Okay then."
"It's time for you to open mine now." Yamato picked up a rather small box and gave it to her.
She couldn't hide her surprise and shock when she opened it and came across probably the most amazing necklace she had ever seen. There was also a matching pair of earrings. "Oh my God, they are so beautiful."
"I thought of you the moment I laid my eyes on them."
"Baby, they are amazing." She looked at him, visibly touched and teary. "I'm not sure if I deserve them."
"You do, trust me." He assured her. "In fact, I think you'd look great with them and this outfit. May I?"
"Sure." She stood up and removed her hair from the back of her neck, so he could put the necklace on her. Then she took off the earrings she was wearing and replaced with her brand new ones.
"And I was right." Yamato could barely hold his smile. "You look stunning."
"You're exaggerating."
"I'm not, this is a fact."
"Okay, I'll believe you."
"Good."He put a lock of her hair behind her ear and stared at her so intensely Sora didn't notice she had been holding her breath until she exhaled the air from her lungs.
"Happy Valentine's Day, baby."
"Happy Valentine's Day." She stroked his blonde hair and returned his intense stare and slowly leaned towards him, leading him to believe she was going to kiss him but pulled away with a cheeky grin. She couldn't help but think his confused and disappointed expression was priceless. "I'm just messing with you."
"You better, because this is torture." He teased.
A little before she began to lean over again, Yamato slid his hand to the back of her head to make sure she wasn't going to pull back another time. Luckily for him, she didn't, and their lips met in a shy kiss at first and it quickly turned into a more passionate one. For several minutes, they completely forgot about everything and everyone else, only returning to their senses and pulling away from each other when the waiter arrived with their orders. Both of them felt embarrassed and their cheeks turned red.

"That was fun." Sora said after she sat on the driver's seat.
"More like embarrassing." Yamato couldn't help but laugh. "The waiter caught us kissing."
"Well, that was embarrassing indeed." She laughed too. "But I'm sure he knows what it's like, so…"
"That's a really good point. But other than that it was indeed fun."
"I know I already said it, but I'll try to obsess less on this maternity thing."
"Hey, that's okay." He assured her. "I totally understand it. I want it as much as you."
"That's a really good point. But other than that it was indeed fun."
"I know. So how about we extend the night?" She suggested. "It's Valentine's Day after all."
"I'm in. In the backseat?"
"Not tonight. I'd rather do it on our bed."
"Sounds perfect for me." He leaned on his seat. "We might as well hurry up and go home then."
"I'm on it."
