It's time for everyone's favorite wolf girl!
Enjoy!
Shiroko was certainly eccentric, then again all the students remaining in Abydos were, they had to be to keep the school afloat. Ayane seemed to be the only one with her head on straight, and even then that would change depending on what troubles her fellow classmates managed to get themselves into.
Shiroko was definitely a different caliber though, from her never-ending stamina and her criminal tendencies Sensei couldn't help but worry about her future.
It's because of those worries that Sensei would spend time with her, taking her out to do things that she wouldn't normally do. Like getting sweets, going to festivals, and generally trying to steer her from robbing the nearest bank.
The attention he gave her certainly paid off, as Shiroko was now seeking every opportunity to spend time with him, and today's request was no different from her many usuals.
"Sorry Shiroko! Did I keep you waiting?"
The wolf girl shook her head. "It's fine Sensei, I just got here."
Sensei nodded, looking at the sand covered road ahead of them, the many abandoned buildings of the once bustling Abydos district lined the streets in various forms of disarray. "So how far are we running today?"
"I was thinking around 8 miles." Shiroko turned to look at Sensei, dressed in Abydos gym clothes, although they've clearly seen better days. Shiroko's name could still be see on the front of the shirt though, albeit a little faded.
"8 miles huh...It's always extreme with you isn't it?"
The girl tilted her head, he ears flopping with her tilt. "I usually do 20 miles, I'm going easy on myself today."
"Right..."
Shiroko bent down and picked up her backpack that she carried her water and snacks in, putting her arms through the straps and placing it on her back, she turned to Sensei with those dull eyes.
"Are you ready?"
The teacher nodded. "Yeah, let's get this over with."
Shiroko nodded with a slight smile and the two begin their run. They started off by walking, then a slight steady jog, the student setting the pace while Sensei kept up.
By the 2nd mile, Sensei was already panting, drenched in sweat and having fallen behind. Meanwhile Shiroko had barely broken a sweat, and she was showing no signs of wavering.
Shiroko looked behind her, continuing to jog. "Sensei...Do you wanna take a break?"
"No...I'm..." Sensei huffed. "I'm fine...I can keep going..."
"If you're sure, I don't min-WAH!" Shiroko's foot got stuck in one of the many cracks littering the roads of the Abydos district, she fell forward and landed hard.
"Shiroko!" Sensei picked up his pace, catching up to where Shiroko lay and kneeled next to her. Shiroko rolled over, her face was fine aside from her lip bleeding a little. Her foot didn't quite get the same treatment however, the ankle was already beginning to bruise and as Shiroko tried to stand up she winced in pain and fell back down.
"Sensei...I think I sprained my ankle..."
"It's fine, don't move it too much. I'll call Sena."
Sena, while her lack of for patients was concerning, could always be relied upon in a pinch. Usually he'd go to Serina first, but she said she would be assisting at the hospital and would be unable to assist him if he were to get into any trouble. Sena was always fast to arrive though in that armoured ambulance of hers.
Unfortunately, his cellphone was getting any service. Shiroko noticed his confusion as he stared at his phone.
"We don't get service all the way out here. We'd have to go back to the school for that."
"How far is the school?"
Shiroko pointed towards a road that ran uphill. "About 3 miles that way."
Sensei looked up the hill, then to his student, then to her leg. He wasn't about to leave her laying here while he ran for help.
He gulped, standing up and turning around to squat, his back facing Shiroko. Who stared at him in confusion.
"Sensei?"
"Hop on, I'll take you back to the school."
"Sensei, that's a long walk. I don't want you hurting yourself."
"My student is in pain, I will not leave you here."
Shiroko only smiled slightly, climbing onto his back and wrapping her arms around his neck while leaning against him. Sensei held onto her thighs and he stood up, turning towards the hill and beginning his trek back to the academy.
Sensei came busting through the front door of the main Abydos building, he fell to his knees and Shiroko climbed off his back. Ayane and Nonomi came rushing down upon hearing them come in.
"Sensei! Are you okay!?" Ayane called out, kneeling down next to him.
Sensei was drenched in sweat and panting heavily. "Y-Yeah...S-Shiroko sprained her ankle...So I...carried her...here..."
"Are you sure you aren't the one who needs help Sensei?" Nonomi asked, squatting down to tend to to him. But Sensei was too exhausted to respond.
When Sensei finally awoke, he found himself laying in one of the beds in the now abandoned nurse's office of the Abydos Academy. As he sat up he found himself feeling light-headed and he fell back against the bed, breathing heavily. It seems he really pushed himself to the limit there.
He heard the door open, its poorly maintained hinges creaking as it did. He turned his head to look at whoever entered the room, it was Shiroko. She walked in with crutches, her sprained foot hovering above the floor.
"Sensei...You're awake."
Sensei sat up again, this time slower, as the girl walked.
"Shiroko, how's your foot?"
The wolf girl sat down in the chair next to Sensei's bed. "I'm fine Sensei, what about you?"
"Light headed, but so long as you're alright, then that's all the matters."
Shiroko frowned. "Sensei...You're really out of shape you know."
The teacher chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, I know I am..."
"Then why did you carry me two miles?"
"I just wanted to pay you back...For everything you've done for me"
His student blushed lightly at this, smiling slightly. "Thank you Sensei...But please get into better shape before trying to do that next time..."
"Yeah, I'll do my best."
Sorry for the long wait, been busy with IRL and struggling with this chapter. I am def not proud of this but I am at a loss as to what I can change or do better. Next chapter will be an improvement I promise!
Until next time!
