Everything around me was dark, I didn't know the reason for this, but I felt something start to drag me down.
Before I knew it, the darkness turned to light.
I could see a figure holding me, by the appearance of him, I would say that it was a doctor. In front of him, there was a couple, a woman was lying on a stretcher while the man was next to her.
My first thought was that this was wrong, after all, my current situation is strange unless I am dreaming, but this was not the case.
While trying to think about how I ended up here, I was able to remember a few things.
I walked to my university, after all, what else would a 23-year-old student do? At that moment I received a call from my mother for the fourth time, and tired of it, I decided to answer.
''What's going on?''
"Desmont, this is the fourth time I've called you and you just answered? This is disrespectful to your mother."
''Well, do you need something? I'm busy right now.''
My mother began to lecture me after saying this. It was all due to some problems we had in the morning, which put her in a bad mood. And to make the situation worse, I decided to leave just when she was lecturing me. So her anger is normal, although not that it mattered much to me.
While waiting for the traffic light to change to cross the avenue, a little boy was playing with his ball. Unfortunately for him, the ball got knocked out of his hands and headed towards the highway. The sensible thing to do would be to wait for the light to change to pick it up, but the boy decided it would be wiser to pick it up at this point.
As the boy ran after his ball, I could see a vehicle in the vicinity accelerating in his direction.
If I were a kind-hearted person, I would try to warn the child or get him out of the way of the vehicle. But I'm not that person, I didn't care much.
After all, it was the recklessness of the child that would cause an accident.
So, I let what should happen since it is not a problem that affects me.
I stopped paying attention to the child to focus on the words my mother was saying to me.
"You know, Desmont, sometimes I regret your birth"
"That makes two of us, it's not like I asked you to bring me into this world!"
When I refocused on the child, I could see at that very moment, that the driver — in order not to hit the child, decided that the most appropriate thing to do would be to turn right.
This would have been a good decision, it would prevent an accident after all, except for the fact that I was on the right.
The last thing I saw was the vehicle heading toward me, and the last words I could hear were my mother's.
''I hate you"
Guess I died in that accident, huh, and this would be like a rebirth or something.
This should cheer me up, after all, I wasn't satisfied with my previous life. But for some reason, I started to cry.
I had friends and family.
I didn't want to admit it, but I had a loving mother and although our relationship wasn't the best, I still loved her.
I guess the phrase "you don't know what you have until you lose it" applies to this occasion.
My cries seemed to attract the attention of the couple, so the doctor handed me over to the woman and she pressed me against her chest.
This was not an unpleasant feeling, one could say it was comfortable and comforting. Before I knew it, I was fast asleep.
It's been 6 years since I was reborn. As I grew a little and learned the language of this place, I realized that the place where I was born was not my past country, but Japan. Also, the time was different, it seemed that I had regressed several years before the date of my accident. Was it that or was I just born in another world completely separate from mine? I guess the alternate world theories had some merit to them.
Now if you ever told me that there was life after death, I would answer something like this
'If it's not a world with magic in medieval times, not interested'
After all, the fantasy of any cultured individual is that when you die, you wake up in another world where magic exists. They already know how to be strong, get a harem, defeat the demon king and become a god, anyone's fantasy.
But I suppose that one does not have the opportunity of choice.
After a few months after my rebirth, remembering the past would only bring back bad memories, so I decided to focus on the present. On this new opportunity in life that was granted to me.
It could be called cheating for having years of experience and knowledge, this had its advantages, and I had no problem learning to speak and write. My parents were surprised by my rapid development, they thought their son was a prodigy.
As for my parents, they decided that my name would be Raiden, Tsurumi Raiden. Curiously, I knew the last name but couldn't remember from where. I had seen several anime and read multiple light novels after all. It may be that I've read that name at some point in time, so I decided not to pay much attention to it.
The sounds my mother made took me out of my thoughts. I forgot to mention that she is pregnant, and it seems that I am going to have a little sister. In my past life, I did not have any younger siblings, so this experience would be something new.
My father took my mother to the hospital, so he decided to leave me in the care of my grandmother.
"Raiden, when we get back, you'll meet your new little sister," my father said.
"It's fine" I replied simply, I can't think of anything a kid my age can answer.
In the late afternoon, my grandmother started watching television in the living room, and I went to my room.
As this was a parallel world and I was in Japan, I decided to investigate if there were similarities regarding some doubts I had. Being a fairly intelligent child, my parents gave me a tablet early on, so using the internet was not a problem for me.
I started looking up names of famous light novels in my world; as a result, I did not find any. There were two possibilities, the authors had not written them or it could simply be that the authors do not exist in this world. Although there are many other famous light novels that I don't know, so my second guess should be correct since I also started looking for the names of said authors in forums but there were no results.
In my previous life, I used to read several of these types of novels; I had some memories of them. I thought about writing these projects and putting them in my name. It sounded like copyright theft, but it technically wouldn't be since these works don't exist yet. So it was fine for me. Of course, that would be a future project, I hadn't planned on doing it yet as I would have to concentrate on writing. Plus it would be very tedious.
"Raiden, it's time for dinner." I could hear my grandmother calling me, I guess being focused on something makes time fly.
Dinner passed normally, my grandmother asked some common questions, about how I was doing in school and if I have friends, to which I responded with the typical responses of a small child.
Speaking of elementary school, I'm doing it normally, except the other students was astounded by the color of my eyes. After all, seeing a child with black hair and red eyes is not something you'd see every day. Omitting the color of my eyes, I think it's a pretty common life.
Tomorrow is Saturday, so I will not have school, so I can stay watching TV until late. Although I can stay up until 11 o'clock, the body of a child cannot take it anymore. Sometimes I miss my previous body in which I could go days without sleep.
Although if I compare my face with the old me, my new face wins. So in that area, I have no complaints.
At 11 o'clock my body started to get heavy; the disadvantages of being a child.
The best thing I can do is to go to sleep and hopefully by tomorrow my parents will be here with my new baby sister.
My grandmother proceeded to wake me up, it was 8 in the morning; my parents had already returned from the hospital.
"Raiden, you should go say hi to your new baby sister, your parents are in the living room''
"I got it,"
After washing my face, I proceeded to go to the room where my parents were carrying a small baby.
"Raiden, I would like to introduce you to the new member of the family. As an older brother, I hope you take care of her and love your little sister very much," said my father.
In his arms was a baby with black hair like mine, but her eyes were blue, at least she won't attract as much attention as I did at school.
"What's my sister's name?" After all, I was curious to know the name my parents gave her.
To which my mother replied, "Raiden, give a warm welcome to Tsurumi Rumi, your little sister."
At that moment my mind stopped, I was familiar with the Tsurumi surname but I couldn't remember where I had heard it before.
Now that I knew my sister's name.
I could remember it.
Tsurumi Rumi is a girl who was helped by the service club while camping. That happens in Oregairu's light novel, but that's just a coincidence, right? I cannot be in the world of a light novel.
After acting normally and saying goodbye to my parents because they were tired, I went to my tablet to find the last name to deny or confirm the theory I had in mind.
I proceeded to write the surname Yukinoshita in the search engine, if he was in that world his surname should be famous and confirm my theory.
Alas, several articles came up about the Yukinoshita company including the Yukinoshita patriarch himself.
Seeing some images of the matriarch of the family, all but solidified the fact.
It seems that I ended up in the world of a light novel.
