[Act One, Chapter One: A Deal With a Demon?]

Tristain Academy of Magic, a place located at Tristain, which was in Halkeginia. A fairly large group of students could be seen standing outside the building standing in front of a male teacher who was nearly bald, wore a dark blue coat, and had on circular eyeglasses. The gentleman's name was Jean Colbert, and he was one of the many educators that taught at the academy. In addition to that, he was regarded as one of the best due to his exceptional skills in the art of magic and his kindhearted attitude. If you were having an issue that needed to be resolved, he was the guy to go to. "The time to rejoice is now, my dear students." The professor smiled warmly. "This is a very special day for every one of you."

For better context, the second-year students were going to be summoning familiars whom they'll be spending their entire lives with until they pass away. A majority of the students were happy that they were finally given a chance to summon a familiar except a short girl with strawberry-pink hair who was none too thrilled. The young lady's name was Louise Francoise le Blanc de la Valliere, daughter of Karin Desiree de la Valliere and Duke Sandorion de la Valliere. She was also the younger sister of Eleonore Albertine le Blanc de la Blois de la Valliere and Cattleya Yvette la Baume le Blanc de la Fontaine. The feeling of nervousness swarmed all over the young Valliere. The negative emotion stemmed from the fact that she wielded no magic power, as her spells always ended up destroying everything with an explosion. Since she wasn't able to perform magic spells, the young Valliere was subjected to ridicule and mockery by her peers and sometimes her family, more so her sister, Eleanore.

A groan of despair escaped the young Valliere's lips as she placed her hands on her cheeks. "Oh, Brimir. This whole thing is going to be completely disastrous; I just know it..." She frowned, unaware that her red-haired archenemy, Kirche Augusta Frederica von Anhalt Zerbst, was standing behind her. "What am I going to do? What am I going to do? If I fail, everyone is going to laugh at me again, and I'll never hear the end of it. Maybe I can-"

"What on Earth are you doing, Valliere?" Interrupted the buxom fire mage with a question, though it came off more as mockery than it did a genuine question. Louise rolled her eyes in annoyance, and Kirche continued, much to the former's dismay, as she wanted her to do something else instead of bothering her. "If you continue to mutter like that, people will start to think that you're a deranged psychopath. We'd have to start calling you Louise the Psychopath or Crazy Zero" The fire mage threw her head back and laughed obnoxiously out loud, throwing more fuel to the flame and angering Louise even more. Zerbst always enjoyed poking fun of Louise and seeing her angry face; there was something special about it that puts a smile on her face; maybe it was because of how easy it was to rile up the little mage.

The young Valliere clenched her fist in rage and gave her busty rival a scary death glare that proved ineffective as the only thing she received from the bronze-skinned mage was a light chuckle indicating that she wasn't taking the little noble serious, which angered the former even more. "Just shut your mouth, you wretched hussy, and leave me alone for Brimir's sake!" She seethed, turning around. Louise hated Kirche with a BURNING passion (no pun intended) and swore to herself that she would get revenge after becoming a powerful mage. For better context, Louise's hatred for the Germanian derived from their respective families and how they went to war with one another, fighting against each other for generations upon generations; many lives were lost, and tears were shed. Today, things aren't as bad as they were in the past, but the two families still loathe each other and won't be getting along any time soon. Another thing was Kirche's treatment of Louise, which wasn't wholesome in the slightest. The buxom redhead loved to remind Louise that she had no magic talent whatsoever and always called her demeaning names such as Louise the Zero, Zero Louise, Little Louise, and so forth.

"Alright, students." Colbert started. "Let us begin the summoning ritual." He finished as the students began to cheer and shout with the exception of Louise and another small girl who had light blue hair and red eyeglasses.

"Come to me, my great familiar." Stated one of the many nobles within the area. The young noble dramatically waved his wand around for a little bit until his new familiar, a flying eyeball creature named Bugbear, came out of nowhere, taking him by surprise. The young nobleman was quite skeptical at first because he wasn't expecting to get a Bugbear, but he eventually got over it and brought it in for a hug.

"Okay, who's next to go up?"

A blonde-haired boy raised his hand. "That would be me, Mr. Colbert." He answered, performing a very over-the-top pose while holding a rose in his mouth. That young man was Guiche de Gramont, and he was best known for being the school's resident Casanova, constantly flirting and charming the females with his 'romantic' attitude and stunning good looks. Louise wasn't particularly fond of the boy because she found him obnoxious and narcissistic to the highest degree, and he was one of the many people who loved to belittle her. The blonde-haired boy strolled over to the center, took the rose out of his mouth, and then raised it high. "O Brimir, the grand creator that guides us...O noble one who will become the familiar of the magnificent Guiche the Brass. Please answer my divine summons" The ground beneath Guiche's very feet rumbled immensely, and before he knew it, a cute mole popped out of the ground, much to his dismay. "WHAT!?" He cried out in shock, his classmates whispering among themselves. "S-SURELY, THIS MUST BE A MISTAKE!" Guiche had a hard time trying to wrap his head around this; he wanted something beautiful and gracious...not that. When he asked Colbert why he got a mole, he was informed that the summoning spell gave the summoner a familiar that fitted their affinity, and his affinity was earth. "I guess this isn't too bad. If anything, I could have gotten something much worse." While Gramont wasn't exactly stoked about having a mole as his familiar, he would admit that it was cute in its own little way. Suddenly, laughter could be heard from the distance, and he turned his head to see Kirche with her familiar, which was a fire salamander. "A salamander? I never expected Kirche to get a familiar like that..."

Kirche squealed loudly as she embraced her new familiar tightly, who did little more than a blink. "Look at him; he's sooo adorable" the redhead giggled. "I think I'll name him Flame; yeah, Flame is a good name, and it goes well with my affinity, not to mention it fits my byname, Kirche the Fever"

"Alright, everyone has summoned their familiar, correct?" A smug and snobbish look appeared on Kirche's face and at the corner of her eyes was Louise who was looking at the many familiars in the vicinity. It didn't take a genius to know that an evil idea is brewing in the redhead's mind

"Mr. Colbert, Zer-I mean Louise hasn't summoned a familiar yet" Kirche turned to Louise, who glared at her with absolute hatred in her eyes, both fists clenched tightly. "Come on, Louise, you have a familiar to summon. You don't want to fail, do you?" There was a great deal of mockery within that question, and Louise damn well knew that; the pink-haired girl was gripping her fist tightly and she were to continue any further, blood would be leaking out. Luckily, she stopped before anything severe could happen.

Louise stepped forward and composed herself. The latter's classmates were having a conversation with each other, and various insults could be heard from them as well. The negative comments fueled Louise's anger, and she began to curse under her breath, saying words that would make a sailor cry. Colbert eventually silenced the students and told Louise to get on with the summoning spell, and she did exactly that, raising her wand and closed her eyes before she took a deep breath. The time to summon a familiar was now, on that very day, Louise Francoise le Blanc de la Valliere was going to prove to everyone that she is not a failure and will never BE a failure! "My servant, that exists somewhere in this vast universe!" she shouted, confusing her classmates as they have never heard of a chant like that before.

In another universe completely different from Louise's and pretty much everyone else, a highly customized crimson-red and jet-black striped 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T was driving on a highway traveling at a moderate speed. The driver operating the muscle car was an adult woman who was reasonably attractive and sported a curvaceous yet fit and healthy body structure. The color of the woman's hair was obsidian-black and was formed in two spiky buns, her eyes were a lovely shade of emerald-green, and the skin she carried was smooth and gingerbread-brown. The brunette's clothing was semi-casual in that she wore a knee-length, hooded leather coat that was gray, black, and yellow (1) with a white T-shirt underneath that had a black kanji on it, which translated to 'Go' (2) alongside a silver crucifix placed around her neck, as well as a black wool scarf. Additionally, she wore a pair of fingerless motorcycle gloves that were black and a pair of motorcycle goggles resting on her head. Finally, the woman wore slightly tattered, dark-blue jeans with a pair of black, white, and camouflages sneakers on her feet (3) and a dual holster around her waist with two silver Magnum Research Desert Eagles inside.

The gentlewoman's name was Jessabella Winters, though her friends and relatives referred to her as Jessie since it was short, simple, and easy to remember. Her enemies, on the other hand, liked calling her by her other last name, which was Skyheart, a name to originated from her mother whose last name was Skyheart before she got married to Jessie's father. Like her comrades, Dante, Trish, and Lady, who were a part of the Devil May Cry business founded by Dante himself, she too was a Devil Hunter and a good one as well; however, she wasn't a part of the business and did her own little thing while simultaneously traveling the world, but if they needed help, which didn't happen very often, she would drop by and give them a hand...if she's around, that is.

Twenty minutes ago, Jessie was presented with an assignment that needed to be completed at once. The assignment was to track down a demon that has been causing mayhem and destruction throughout the city and toward the public. The demonic creature of conversation needed to be put six feet under before it could create more violence and take away the lives of many innocent civilians. It annoyed Jessie to no end when demons would come out of the woodwork and harass humans for no good reason; what was the objective? What enjoyment did they get out of it? She may never know the answer to her burning question, but what she does know was that as long as they continue to prey upon the weak and defenseless, she'll be there to kick their ass and send them back to the depths of Hell whence they came.

After a half-hour or so of driving and listening to the news on the radio, Jessie had finally arrived at her location, which was a large church that was in a deplorable condition in that most of the colored windows were shattered, there were bullet holes from top to bottom and a giant crucifix that once rested on the rooftop for all to see was now on the ground and split in half. Police officers and squad cars were everywhere, and pistols were trained on the entrance in case the demon tried to escape. Needless to say, things were in pretty bad shape, and something needed to be done about it, or it'll get worse, hence why backup, a.k.a: Jessie, was called upon.

The Devil Hunter got out of her Dodge Challenger and cracked her knuckles, ready to do what she does best. Jessabella walked to the back of her car and popped open the truck to be greeted with a long, silver suitcase. Letting out a small noise of satisfaction, she pulled the suitcase out of the vehicle and placed it on the ground, then unfastened it up, revealing a sword and a metal scabbard. The sword within the now-opened suitcase was massive, single-edged, and sported a technology-based Esque futuristic appeared, not to mention it was black all over. The blade was crafted out of carbon steel, making it very durable and long-lasting, the grip/handle was long enough for the wielder to wield with the use of two hands, and the entire sword was radiating blue lightning, something that should make things quite complicated for the enemy via electrocuting and stunning (4). Sotiras was the title of the weapon, and Jessie obtained it from a mid-level demon who thieved it from some billion-dollar company, which she forgot the name of. After everything came to an end and the mid-level demon was slain, Jessie took the sword for herself and dubbed it 'Sotiras', it was called something else, but it didn't really matter at that point since it was hers now. The sword proved to be quite useful on many occasions, and Jessie always sought new ways to improve it.

Once Jessie took out the blade and the scabbard, she closed the suitcase and placed it back in the car. From there, she stored the sword in the scabbard, slung said scabbard over her shoulders, and performed a couple of stretches before throwing a few air punches. "Okay, it's time to complete what I came here to do. Hopefully, I got here early, and the body count is high, and some people are still alive." The brunette's expression transitioned from easygoing to serious. She calmly walked over to the police officers, who still had their firearms trained at the entrance of the church, waiting for the beast to escape. "The demon must've been on a blood-filled tirade if they got this many cops after them." Demons weren't something officers dealt with on a daily basis, which was ironic considering the former roamed around the Earth like it was nobody's business. Some demons, such as Scarecrow and Nobodies, were quite easy to maintain and put down, but demons like Frosts and Assaults were a much different ballgame and required people like Jessie to deal with them.

One of the many police officers within the area noticed Jessie arriving on the scene, and they turned to her, an expression of relief and comfort plastered on their face as a sigh of relief erupted from their mouth. "Thank goodness; someone finally showed up. I thought we were goners for a second." The officer said as Jessie nodded with a small wave of hello. "That...t-that thing in there! I-it just...it just came out of nowhere and started attacking people for unknown reasons while screeching its freaking head off like a wild banshee or the lead singer of some punk rock band the young kids are into these days. We tried everything we could think of, but the thing wouldn't stay down no matter what! The bastard even took out some of our best men on the force as well; God bless those poor souls, they didn't deserve it."

With the information she had just received, Jessie whipped out her Desert Eagles and turned the safety off. It should be noted that the two guns she was wielding had words engraved on them, and they were both written in cursive. The right Desert Eagle had the words 'Ama la tua famiglia', which translates to 'Love thy family' in Italian. In contrast, the left Desert Eagle had the words 'Ama I tuoi amic', which translates to 'Love thy friends', another phrase written in Italian. "Alright, I want you and the other officers to stay out here and refrain from entering the building; if you come across any injured civilians or fellow officers, help them out and take them to safety afterward. As for me, I will go inside and take care of the demon. If push comes to shove, which probably won't happen, I'll call in for back. Is that understood?" The police officer responded with a quick 'yes' followed by a salute, earning himself a pat on the shoulder from Jessie. "Excellent. Remember what I said and take it to heart; this job can be a real pain in the rear at times."

Having said that, Jessie stepped forward and calmly walked to the entrance of the church. Upon seeing her face, the cops lowered their weapons and allowed her to enter the building, knowing she would take care of the mess before them. Despite their faces not showing it, they were very grateful to have Jessie on their side; it made their job ten times easier what with the demons, monsters, and what have you.

If the outside of the church was bad, then the interior of the church was downright horrifying and would cause the average person to feel very, very uncomfortable. Grime, debris, and shattered glass from the colored windows were sprawled everywhere throughout the whole area, the walls and floors were stained with crimson blood, and the probability that it came from the victims was high. Furthermore, lifeless carcasses were damn near all over the place; hell, there were a few body parts in some places. Jessie had entered the building, and upon walking in, she immediately noticed all of the wreckage, but what really captured her attention the most was the deceased corpses. Her calm and collected personality dropped instantly, and a dark scowl made its way onto her face as she growled, clenching her fist tightly...she wasn't happy, not one bit.

"Ruthless son of a bitch...they murdered all these poor people, and I bet they didn't even show an ounce of remorse for them or anything of the sort." Jessie seethed, doing her best to hold in her anger and not let it get the best of her. "I'm putting an end to this mess and sending the bastard straight to Hell." Right before the Devil Hunter could get the opportunity to begin her investigating, a noteworthy chewing sound can be heard, followed by a low and slightly audible moaning. She slowly trudged forward and saw it...the demon she was searching for, and they were feasting on a dead church attendee whose top half was being eaten while the bottom half resting beside it, slowly rotting away.

Jessie almost lost her lunch the moment her eyes came in contact with the deceased church-goer, but she managed to keep it down and concentrate on the task at hand. The murderous demon wasn't aware of Jessie's presence, and it wasn't until she faked coughed that they finally acknowledged her. They dropped the deceased church-goer like a sack of potatoes and merely stared at the woman in front of them with their head tilted like a dog. As the Devil Hunter gazed upon the demon longer and longer, their features became more noticeable such as their body, which was the size of a smart car and resembled that of a bat. The fur they had was dark brown, their ears were as big as their head, both eyes lacked pupils and irises, leaving only the scleras, which were yellow, and their claws, as well as their teeth, were razor-sharp.

Silence and tension permeated the atmosphere, with the two individuals staring each other down, not moving an inch. The sound of automobiles such as cars and trucks can be heard from the outside, as well as the wind blowing and police officers shouting orders while instructing civilians to leave the scene before they get hurt. Jessie eventually broke the silence. "So you're the demon I'm looking for." She said with a hint of venom in her voice. "You have much to answer for. Anything you want to say for yourself?" The bat demon responded with a blood-curling screech as they placed a hand on one of the many pew benches before ripping it off the floor and chucking it at Jessie, who kicked it away with ease like it was a mere soccer ball. In retaliation, the Devil Hunter beamed her Desert Eagles at the attacker and proceeded to unleash a round of hot bullets, causing them to scream out in pain and agony. "Come on. What's the big fuss all about? Not so enjoyable when it's happening to you, isn't it?"

Green blood was slowly oozing out from the demon's wounds and stained the floor beneath their feet. It should also be noted that they were breathing really hard, and their right arm was placed on their chest, trying to keep the blood inside, but it wasn't going swimmingly due to the fact that there were too many bullet wounds to cover up. Instead of moving or doing anything of the sort, Jessie just stood in place and observed the hellish bat in its pitiful state, feeling quite satisfied with her handy work. In the eyes of the ordinary spectator, her facial expression looked rather off-putting and straight-up sadistic, but that wasn't the case. Truth be told, sadism was never really her cup of tea, and she preferred not to enjoy the pain, agony, and suffering of others, more so demons and monsters. When it came down to homicidal and murderous creatures, however, it always warmed her heart when they received their comeuppance for their deplorable actions.

Unfortunately for Jessie, the demonic creature wasn't ready to go to the Underworld just yet and scowled at her with an extreme amount of hate and virulence in their odd-looking eyes, ready to rip her to shreds, then feed her remains to the fishes and whatever lurks within the deep blue sea. They quickly got themselves together, and the gruesome bullet wounds that were once on their chest for all to see were healed completely. Not only that, they gained more muscle, their claws were longer, and their teeth were sticking out from their jaw like a Bulldog. A small 'tch' of frustration erupted Jessie's mouth as she placed her Desert Eagles back in the holster and swiftly took out Sotiras. "The Man-Bat wannabe over there has regeneration, so bullets aren't going to do the trick. That's cool. I have other ways of getting the job done; all I need is one good strike, and the furry nutcase is as good as dead" The Demon Slayer has dealt with this kind of stuff before. Some targets were easy; some targets were difficult. In the end, she got the job done and went home a happy woman. "Better stay on guard, though. Those claws don't look too child-friendly."

Surprisingly, the demon decided to go for a different approach and try something else, which involved using their wings to ascend to the ground, much to Jessie's dismay as she wanted to attack them head-on with her sword and put an end to things. With one final glare, the demon slowly opened their mouth, and out came a large stream of fire, one which Jessie narrowly avoided. Three more fireballs appeared and the latter dodged those as well before jumping behind one of the pew benches for cover as multiple fireballs were aimed at her. "The screeching banshee isn't making this easy for me...goodness gracious, why couldn't he be a Scarecrow or something? Those are far easier to deal with given their lack of intelligence and poor strength." Jessie muttered quietly, feeling pretty annoyed with her current situation. "Better smack him down before he tries something else." Standing behind Jessie was a metal candle stand that had no candles on it. Suddenly, an ominous smirk surfaced as a good idea came to mind and it was pretty obvious what she had in mind. "That'll do just fine. Thank you to whoever put this here."

Jessie swiftly grabbed the candle stand and chucked it at the flying bat creature. The latter barely had time to react and move out the way as the metal object struck them in the face, knocking them to the ground where a loud THUD! appeared soon afterward. A small yet audible moan of pain can be heard from the demon as they were writhing around in pain. The demon's suffering didn't come to an end as Jessie grabbed one of their legs and proceeded to lift them and then slam them to the ground in a merciless way. She continued to do this for a couple of seconds until she spun around at an impressive speed and launched the unfortunate bat demon at a nearby wall, which created a crack thanks to the sheer force. "Take that and choke on it, you overgrown rodent" Said Jessie. Gazing upon the newly-made crack in the wall, the former let out a whistle of amazement until a sudden realization like an eighteen-wheeler that carrying a bunch of cinderblocks...she may or may not have to pay for the damages, and it's probably going to be undoubtedly expensive and leave a big hole in her wallet. "Better take it easy before I end up destroying the entire building." Jessie muttered to herself, unaware that the demon behind her was slowly getting back up.

The demon growled in a menacing fashion, and a loud, blood-curdling screech exploded from their mouth. That led to Jessie rolling her eyes in annoyance and rubbing her temples in frustration in that she wanted the mission to come to an end and for the demon to stay down. The creature charged forward and went in for a deadly claw slash, only for Jessie to swift dodge the attack causing the demon to crash into the wall by accident. While the demon was dazed and confused, trying to get themself together, Jessie seized the opportunity to attack. She slowly took out her blade from within the sheath holding it and glared upon the demon, taking a few steps forward before dashing at her enemy. Once she came in contact with the demon...

SLASH!

...A very thunderous scream of pain and agony sprang from the bat demon as they were sliced in half. Bright green blood was oozing out from both halves, and guts could be seen from the top half. "N-Nephilim...h-h-hybrid...!" Those were the last words uttered out by the demonic creature in a raspy tone as they slowly succumbed to their well-deserved demise. When all was said and done, Jessie placed her sword back in the scabbard then put her hands in her coat pockets. The job was finally completed, and the people of her city were safe and sound until another demon shows up and decides to have some fun. There were probably more demons lurking around and doing God knows what, but Jessie knew that Dante, or any other Devil Hunter for that matter, would handle it with little to no issue. As she was about to leave the church, Jessie thought back to something the demon said before they died. They called her a Nephilim Hybrid. For a better understanding, flowing through Jessie's veins was human blood, angel blood, and most importantly, demon blood. All of that made her a Nephilim Hybrid, with her mother being a Nephilim and her father being a human being. Demons of all kinds have targeted Jessie for carrying angel blood and demon blood, which was considered disgraceful in their eyes, and couldn't fathom the idea of angels and demons making peace with one another and forging a child. Many demons have tried to kill her for that reason, but none of them have ever lived to tell the tale.

"One would think that demons would stop trying to murder me after several years of sending their friends and family back to the Underworld or wherever they end up in the afterlife. Oh well, so demons just don't understand, and I don't think they ever will. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about that." Jessie casually shrugged her shoulders and walked forward, making her way toward the exit. As she continued walking forward, she suddenly came to an instant stop, though it wasn't of her own volition...for some odd reason, she couldn't move her body, not one itch, and it was seriously unsettling. "W-What the heck is going on here? Why...why can't I move my body? Don't tell me this is that ear-murdering demon's doing" The dark-skinned woman tried her damndest to move, but it was all in vain. "Come on, dammit!" Now she was starting to get angry, not to mention nervous. Things instantly went from bad to worse as a bright white aura surrounded Jessie's body, and she slowly ascended from the ground. "No! No! No!"

"My servant that exists somewhere in this vast universe; my divine, beautiful, and powerful familiar. I wish and assert from the bottom of my heart...please answer my guidance!" Those were the last words heard by Jessie. The white aura that surrounded the dark-skinned Nephilim got brighter and brighter until it slowly died down, and by the time everything went back to normal, Jessie was nowhere to be seen. Several police officers busted through the doors, and the only thing they saw was the body of the dead demon, and that was it. Some officers in the area were confused as to where Jessie had gone, while the rest placed their focus on the deceased creature that lied before them.

Louise looked around frantically for her new familiar, but she didn't see anything. There was no dog, no cat, no manticore, no nothing. She started to wonder if she did the spell correctly. "Where the heck is my new familiar? I'm sure I performed the incantation right." With every second that passed, the pink-haired girl's nervousness grew more and more. So many questions were going through her mind, like where her familiar was, did she do the spell correctly? Did she say the right words? There was no way she failed yet again; she has been spending her free time practicing and memorizing the words for the past few months, so what gives? For a moment, there was a brief moment of silence until obnoxious laughter filled the air. The students were all laughing at Louise and mocking her while Colbert and the blue-haired girl didn't. Louise was truly saddened about was had transpired. Today was her day; today was the day she would prove to everyone that she was not a zero and capable of performing magic just like the rest of them. "I failed...I can't believe I failed." Said Louise in a heartbroken tone, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Will I truly be Louise the Zero forever?"

Seeing Louise's heart-wrenching state, Colbert got upset and wanted his students to quit their tomfoolery. "Stop this laugher at once!" He ordered in an assertive tone. The students ignored their teacher's command, much to his dismay, and continued to laugh to rear's off, with Kirche laughing the hardest out of everyone. The laughter and jeers of the students went on for a couple of seconds until something or someone dropped down from above, causing them to quickly cease their laughter and replace it with gasps and murmurs. Aside from Louise, Colbert was shocked the most out of everyone there as he had never seen anything like that before. "Oh my Brimir..." Muttered the bald man using a quiet voice. "This is highly unusual. I don't know what to make of this or how to react accordingly."

"Please tell me this is a joke; PLEASE tell me that this is some messed up joke." Louise said to herself, speaking in her head. The pink-haired Noblewoman kept repeating those words over and over again in hopes that her situation was just some idiotic prank or an incredibly bad nightmare that she was soon going to wake up from. Hell, she even went as far as to slap herself a couple of times lightly, but that did nothing except give her a little bit of pain, though that was to be expected, because...well, you know. "This isn't real! This HAS to be an illusion of some sort set up by someone just to spite me and make me look like a zero again!" While Louise was ranting in her head, Colbert was observing the person who fell from the sky.

"Well, Ms. Valliere." Colbert started. "By the looks of it, it seems you have summoned a-" Colbert got cut off midsentence, something that he found to be annoying.

"HUMAN!?" The Noble children finished Colbert's sentence, hollering at the top of their lungs with a look of shock and awe plastered all over their faces. A Noble summoning a human being has never happened before. When a mage performs the summoning ritual, an animal or magical creature is usually what they end up receiving as a result. Why did Louise get a human familiar while everyone else got an animal or something different? Was it because she was inept at magic or was it something else?

While everyone in the area, barring the blue-haired girl, talked amongst themselves and gave their opinions on the rare situation, Louise's new 'familiar', aka Jessie, was slowly recovering from her fall. "Son of a hot biscuit dipped in warm gravy..." She started, a small groan of pain escaping her mouth as she rubbed her back. "Whoever kidnapped me could've given me something soft to land on like a mattress or a hill of fluffy pillows; the grass isn't exactly the softest thing out there." Once the brunette settled down, she picked herself up and looked around, only to be met with a large group of random teenagers with weird animals in their arms or standing beside them. At that moment, the former immediately became concerned with her current location, and the castle-like building behind the teenagers only boosted her uneasiness. "Okay, where the hell am I? This place doesn't look like something you'd see in Great Haven or anywhere else, for that matter. Don't tell me this is the demon's doing because I don't want to deal with their BS anymore." Little did Jessie know that she was no longer in that of her world anymore and was now in Louise's. Things weren't going to be pretty once everything gets explained to her.

Colbert, now being calm about the situation, made his way over to Jessie and was quite interested in striking a conversation with her in order to find out who she was. Jessie noticed Colbert out the corner of her eye and reacted fast by pulled out one of her Desert Eagles and aiming it at him. Truth be told, she was pretty reluctant to shoot the man where he stood, seeing as he looked like a regular human and probably was, but there have been moments where she has dealt with special demons who have the ability to make themselves look like an average human as a means to blend in with everyone else and not be discovered. "First question: who are you? Second question: where in the world am I, and why am I there? Third and final question: is there a way to get back home?" Questioned the dark-skinned woman in a rather intimidating tone. Colbert felt a bead of sweat trickling down his face as the Devil Hunter's tone obviously meant that she wasn't happy with her current predicament. "Listen, I have no intentions of inflicting pain on you. All you need to do is tell me what I want to know, and I'll be out of your hair...(which you don't have, ironically)."

Surprisingly, Louise was the first one to step forward instead of Colbert. She was a little disturbed by her new familiar's intimidating facial expression, which rivaled that of her mother's, but she scarfed down her fear and displayed a brave facade. "To answer your question, my name is Louise Francoise le Blanc de la Valliere, daughter of Karin Desiree de la Valliere and Duke Sandorion de la Valliere." She responded before continuing. "As for your second question and third question, you are at Tristain Academy of Magic, a school located at Tristain. I was supposed to summon an animal, but I ended up getting you" There was a bit of disgust in that last part, but Jessie ignored it. "I'm not sure where you hail from, so I'm not sure if you can go back or not."

Despite the fact that Jessie had gotten the answers she so desperately craved, she was still puzzled in that nothing Louise said made a lick of sense. Magic? Tristain Academy? Summoning? None of it made any sense! Needing time to get her thoughts in order, Jessie calmly placed her Desert Eagle back in the holster and pinched the bridges of her nose. This day was getting confusing by the second and she wanted all of it to stop before she ends up getting a massive headache. Truthfully, magic was something Jessie was used to as her enemies used it every now and then, but everything else was confusing. While the dark-skinned Nephilim was contemplating on what to do next, besides leaving, something Louise said earlier caught her attention. Even if she didn't understand it, it was still noteworthy. The vertically challenged girl said she was supposed to get an animal, but she ended up getting the latter instead, and the tone of her voice when she said that didn't sound too thrilled, almost like it was a complete accident. When Jessie gave it some thought, Louise's voice sounded oddly similar to the one she heard before she was brisked away.

"Alright, familiar, I do believe it is time for you to answer some of the questions I have for you." Stated Louise, pointing a stern finger at Jessie. "Who are you, and where in Brimir's name do you come from? The rags you're wearing give off the impression that you hail from a peasant-filled land."

Jessie took offense to that little insulted at her clothing, but she shook it off. Since the young child answered all of her questions, she might as well do the same. An eye for an eye, as they say. "My name is Jessabella Winters, though you're free to call me Jessie if you like. Since you're asking, I come from a nice town called Great Haven." Louise frowned as she had never heard of a place like that before; maybe it was new, she would have to look into it once her situation gets taken care of. "Now then, if you could kindly point me to the direction of the exit, I will take my leave, and that'll be the end of that. Now problem at all." Hearing that, Colbert grimaced and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. Jessie noticed that little action of his and frowned as well. There was something he wasn't telling her, and she hated it when people held back valuable information. "Is there something you're not telling me, sir? Because if so, I would like to know. I have no intentions of staying at this academy or anywhere else for God knows how long and would like to leave on the spot, no ifs, ands, or buts."

"Ms. Winters, I'm afraid you won't be able to leave here anytime soon." Colbert's voice was sincere and honest, and Jessie could tell that he meant every word he said. "As stated beforehand, Ms. Valliere was supposed to get a familiar, but she ended up getting you instead." The educator replied. "You see, a mage summoning a human has never been done before, and we are unaware as to how to handle it. I'm not sure if we'll be able to take you back to your home. I'm dearly sorry for that."

Okay, THAT was an issue, and it was a massive one at that. Jessie was now stuck in a world she knew nothing about. She's dealt with some serious problems in the past, but none of them were as bad as this one. What the hell was she going to do!? She couldn't stay in this world, she just couldn't! There HAD to be a way to escape and go back home; if she doesn't return soon, people will get worried. "GODDAMNIT ALL TO HELL AND BACK! Upon the seven billion people living on Planet Earth, why did I have to be the one that gets kidnapped against my will!?" If there were a brick wall nearby, Jessie would be punching it repeatedly! Truthfully, the Devil Hunter wanted to yell at Louise for dragging her away from her world, but she decided to go against it as it wouldn't do her much good; plus, it was a complete accident, and she didn't mean to do it. Jessie gripped her fist before calmly inhaling and exhaling. "*Sighs* Okay...if you people don't know of a way to fix this, then I might as well go ahead and find a way myself. Putting that aside for the time being, what am I supposed to do from here on out?"

"The best solution would be to stay here." Colbert answered. Jessie didn't like that idea, but as much as she hated to admit it, it was a good one. As established before, the latter was in a new world. It would be best to stay with the people who know it much better than her. With some information, she could get by and start coming with solutions to escape the new world and get back to the old one. "I'm sure Ms. Valliere here would be more than happy to help you and give you the support you need." Jessie turned to Louise, who was giving her a death glare, though she wasn't intimidated. "With that being said, I suggest we end things by finishing the summoning ritual."

Now it was Louise's time to speak, and she had a LOT to say. "Mr. Colbert, you can't be serious!" The pinkette whined as her teacher frowned. "She's a human! I can't make a human my familiar! It's weird, not to mention it's wrong on several levels. Surely, we can do something different, one that doesn't result in me kissing her and making her my familiar." Louise considered this one of the worst, if not, THE worst day of her life. Her classmates were watching everything unfold and were probably racking up harsh insults to use against her. Right now, the short noble wanted to dig up a large hole and die in it; there was no way she could recover from this. "What would mother and father think of they saw this? Scratch that; what would big sister Eleonore think if she saw this? She'll never let me hear the end of it and probably scold me for messing for the umpteenth time!" During Louise's mental conversation with herself, Colbert placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her midway. The teacher informed her that she had to complete the ritual whether she wanted to or not, and after a little back and forth, Colbert ended up winning. Examining Jessie up and down, Louise scowled. "Don't look too deep into what I'm about to do, woman. Kneel to my level so we can get this over with." Jessie was on the same boat as Louise in that she didn't want to kiss a female, let alone a sixteen possibly fourteen-year-old girl; however, if the summoning ritual or whatever it's called was finished, then she could finally begin doing some research. Doing as Louise requested, Jessie squatted down, and their faces were close to one another. "My name is Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere." Louise pointed a wand at Jessie before continuing. "Pentagon that rules the five powers, please bless this individual and make her mine." The young Noblewoman grabs Jessie's face and pulls her in for a kiss. After the kiss is done, the former quickly backs away. "BLEURGH! That was horrible! I can't believe my first kiss was with a plebian woman!"

Jessie was disgusted as well, but she managed to keep it to herself. "I'm really starting to hate my life right about now. If there's a therapist or a comfy bed nearby, please tell me so that I can interact with either one of the two." All of a sudden, a weird rune appeared on Jessie's left hand. "What the hell is this? It feels like someone is furiously pinching my hand." Another thing the former had noticed was her strength and how she felt...powerful...a lot more powerful than she was a few seconds ago, in fact. How bizarre. On occasions, the dark-skinned lady would receive a special ability from one of the demons she had slain, but that was about it, no new strength or anything of the sort. Whatever it was, it was doing wonders for her, and if that was one of the many magic spells in the new world, then her chances of returning might've widened.

"Congratulations, Ms. Valliere. You have completed the summoning spell" Said Colbert, clapping his hands. "I hope the two of you get along well and create wonderful memories." Colbert turned to his students who were ready to leave and mingle with their new familiars. "As for the rest of you, this class is now dismissed. I hope you all enjoy your lives with your new familiars!" At that point, all of the students say their goodbyes before levitating off the ground, slowly traversing inside the building.

"So..." Jessie started, her hands resting his her coat pockets. "What do we do now? Are we just going to stand out here, doing nothing?" Before the Devil Hunter can go researcher-mode, she needed to know the layout of the building.

"Follow me, familiar. We're going to my room" Louise answered as she walked into the school building, ignoring the various insults she had received from her classmates that haven't entered the building yet. She was genuinely enraged, but she continued walking anyway and would deal with it later. She had pressing matters to deal with and didn't want to deal with their crap.

Jessie and Louise were now in the latter's room. Louise was walking back and forth, muttering to herself as Jessie was sitting on a nice chair while looking out the window, a cool breeze hitting her face, which she didn't seem to mind in the slightest. "Why, oh why did I have to end up with a commoner woman of all things?" Louise complained. "I should've gotten something way cooler like a dragon or a manticore. Brimir, you should've been there in my time of need. Why weren't you watching over me?"

Finally ready to speak, Jessie turned to Louise, who was still walking around and muttering to herself. "This seems to be really upsetting you." Said Jessie. "Would you like for me to leave you alone for the time being?"

"And go where exactly?" Louise questioned with her arms folded

Jessie shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know." She answered. "Never really gave it any thought. I figured I'd just explore the school for a bit and see what I can come across. If I'm lucky, I might find the library."

"If you're going to head out, I want you to take this with you." Louise said.

The pinkette grabbed a hamper full of dirty clothes and dropped it in front of Jessie. "What do you want me to do with this?" The latter asked with an eyebrow raised.

"It's simple." Louise started. "I want these clothes cleaned and folded by tomorrow."

"..."

Louise folded her arms and gave Jessie a nasty look. "Well?" She asked impatiently. "What are you waiting for? Hop to it, familiar?"

"Here's the thing...maid work isn't something I do if you catch my drift." Jessie explained

"Well, it is now." Louise said. "Now cease your foolishness and do what your master asks of you."

"As I said before, maid work isn't something I do." Jessie said before continuing. "If you want to dirty work done, I suggest you go out and get yourself a servant because I don't take orders from anyone I don't know or like."

"You ARE my servant, and you WILL follow your master's orders!" Louise replied with authority

The black-haired woman Devil Hunter got up from her seat and walked to the door. One thing she CERTAINLY was not going to do was follow the orders of some pink-haired brat and take it up the rear with no issue. She was a woman who hunted monsters and demons, not someone who does maid duties, give that to someone else. "If you think for a second that I'll be spending my time following the orders of you, you're sorely mistaken. I don't know who you think I am, but I'm surely not it. This conversation is over, goodbye." Having said that, Jessie exited the room, leaving Louise fuming.

Jessie was outside of the academy, gazing upon the starry sky. "Man...How in the h-e double hockey sticks with pucks on the side am I going to handle this situation?" Questioned the dark-skinned woman in a tiresome tone. "They closed the library early, so I can't do any research as of right now, and I don't think that Louise kid is going to be of any help." The Devil Hunter went on and on until she was approached by a black-haired girl wearing a nifty maid costume. Jessie was confused at first, but she got over it. "Is there something I can help you with." Given her outfit, it could best be assumed that she was one of the workers at the academy...either that or she likes dressing up as a maid for some odd reason.

"Word around the school is that you're Ms. Valliere's familiar." The black-haired girl answered with a soft and gentle tone before continuing. "Is that true? Are you really Ms. Valliere's familiar?" The black-haired girl was really close to Jessie, much to the latter's dismay, and had stars in her eyes. Truth be told, Jessie would be lying if she said she didn't find the young woman to be rather odd.

"Yeah..." Jessie responded, a hint of annoyance lying within her voice. She was already in a sticky situation and would rather have it not brought up over and over again. "What of it?" She understands if it's unnatural for a person to get summoned by a mage, but why does everyone and their mothers want to see if the rumors are true and stick their noses in places where they don't belong?

"That's truly fascinating." The young maid woman said in awe, her hands clasped together. "A commoner being summoned as a familiar."

Nothing was fascinating about that, not one bit. "Believe me; it's not as peachy as you think it is." Said Jessie. "Being taken away from your home by some spoiled brat, forced to be her familiar, is a freaking nightmare, and it's a nightmare that I would like to leave as soon as possible. As soon as I find a way out, everyone's getting a big goodbye from me."

"I'm terribly sorry." Siesta apologized with a bow. "It's just that I've never heard of anything like this before."

"Well, let's just hope that they don't make this a trend." Jessie said. The last thing the Nephilim hybrid needed was more people getting summoned out of nowhere, and a worldwide problem ensuing. That's something she doesn't think she can handle.

"My name is Siesta." The maid girl, now known as Siesta, bowed her head appropriately. "As you can see, I am a maid, which means that I have the honor and privilege of serving the Nobles at this here academy."

That earned Siesta a befuddled look from Jessie. "Nobles?" She asked, wanting to know more. In the last few hours, people have been calling her degrading names like plebian, commoner, peasant, etc. Quite frankly, she was annoyed by it all, but she was too stressed out about her problems to deal with it as such.

"That's right" Siesta nodded. "Those who can wield magic are Nobles, while those who can't are peasants, like me, for example. Us Peasants tend to get treated with disdain and disgust because we can't use magic. It's a struggle, but we learn to get used to it."

That alone made Jessie's blood boil. There were many things in the world she despised with a burning passion. One of them was unnecessary hate and discrimination against others; people getting treated like they were nothing but dirt because they were either born with something they had no control over or lacked something that most people had. That kind of treatment reminded her of the demons back in her world. They abhorred humans for their lack of power and always felt the need to leer over them...it was just so infuriating! "What kind of stupid lifestyle is that?" Asked Jessie, clenching her fist in anger. "People with magic get to live the good life, while people who can't use magic get to suffer? That kind of idiocy really irritates me."

"I know it's unfair...but...we can't do anything about it, unfortunately." Siesta said sadly. "Trust me, If I can change it, I would."

"SIESTA, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU!? Shouted a male voice from inside the building, scaring Siesta a little bit. "YOU KNOW HOW THESE SPOILED BASTARDS ACT WHEN THEY DON'T GET THEIR WAY!"

"I would love to chat more, but I have to prepare for the food tomorrow." Siesta said

"Hey, don't let me stop you." Jessie said with her hands

Siesta bowed. "Have a goodnight, ma'am." The black-haired girl said kindly earning a warm smile from Jessie.

"Same to you." Jessie said as Siesta walked into the building. "Sweet kid, unlike the other children, this one actually has manners. Then again, after what I've heard, it makes sense." The brunette crossed her legs and looked up at the beautiful night sky again. "Man, oh man. I get the feeling I'm in for one heck of a ride. Hopefully, I'll find a way to get back home."

The Devil Hunter has a goal, and that's to get back to her home. She doesn't know how's going to do it, or how long it's going to take, but that's known is that she's going to find a way, and no one's going to tell her otherwise. Will she return to her world, or will she spend the rest of her life in the new world of magic and mages? Find out next time!

END

"Good morning/good evening/good afternoon/etc, dear readers. TheUnholyGem3034 here and come bearing the special thing I said had for you guys, and it's a new story! That's right, I decided to remake/reboot my original Devil May Cry x Familiar of Zero story and change it into something much different. My reasoning for this is because I personally felt like a fresh restart was much needed from the writing to the characters, and there was a lot that should've been changed. Above all else, I wanted to rewrite Jessie and do some re-tweaks to her character (for instance, I went ahead and made her noticeably more mature and less cocky as I felt like her personality was too similar to Dante's and Nero's [especially in DMC5]. She's still going to have her strange sense of humor, but you see what I'm trying to get at) Personality aside, I wanted to shed a teeny-tiny bit of light on her background, more so, her parents, though it's not much since I wanted to hold back on her family until later down the road when the time is right. Having said that, I would like to thank you all for reading the first chapter of this new story and I hope you all enjoy the next one when it arrives. Make sure to review and share with friends and family. No flames, please, let's keep things clean and civilized. With that, having a great day/night and please stay safe out there."-TheUnholyGem3034

[Extras, cause why not]

(1) Okay, if you've ever watched Fairy Tail, then you'll know what I'm talking about (hopefully). You know the coat that Gray wore in the final season, while he was working for Alvarez/Avatar? That's the coat Jessie's wearing, but the colors are different. The blue part is light gray, the zipper area is golden-yellow, and the coat-cuffs or whatever the heck they're called are golden-yellow as well.

(2) The 'Go' kanji on Jessie's shirt is the same kanji that Goku from Dragon Ball Z has (she's a fan of the show).

(3) She's wearing a pair of Air Jordan 1's mid-camo 2020.

(4) Jessie's weapon, Sotiras, is based on the Atlas Sword from Call of Duty. I tried to describe it as best as I could. I also added a few extra things as well.
