The Walking Dead Season 5(w/Telltale Characters)
Disclaimer: I do not own The Walking Dead game or TV series. They both belong to their respective owners.
BEFORE YOU READ: Before I started writing this chapter, I spent time making edits to the episode Too Far Gone and every chapter in season 4B. The main thing that changed was AJ's fate. I originally wrote the Too Far Gone story long before the final season of the Telltale games came out so I didn't know how much I would like AJ and his relationship with Clementine. I really wanted this relationship later on in the story so I decided to rewrite it and make it so he didn't die. I also think having AJ alive presents more opportunity for Judith to have a friend her age later on when she's older. With that being said, here's the season 5 premier.
Episode 1- No Sanctuary
The group was hard at work creating makeshift weapons out of anything they had since all their weapons were taken. They were preparing to fight their way out if they had to. Snippets of their previous conversations while locked in the train car echoed.
"They seemed nice enough, but I was ready to go. We just got here, but, damn, it was time to go. When I told them about DC, a wink and a nod from the head asshole in charge, they pulled their guns and it was right back to our regularly scheduled shitstorm." - Abraham
"Before they put you in here, you didn't see Tyreese?" - Sasha
"No." - Michonne
"Good."- Sasha
"I tried to save Becca. I failed her." - Clementine
"You did all you could, Clem." - Luke
"Black car with a white cross painted on it. I tried to follow it, I tried." - Daryl
"But she's alive?" - Maggie
"She's alive." - Daryl
Rick was using the chain on Glenn's watch to saw off a sharp piece of wood. Michonne was tying sharpened wood to both ends of her scabbard. Kenny was keeping watch at the door through a small gap. They could hear men chattering and getting closer.
"All right, we got four of those pricks coming our way." Kenny said.
Everyone except Sarah, Baby AJ, and Eugene got up and went towards the door to get ready to fight their way out. "Y'all know what to do. Go for their eyes first. Then their throats." Rick said as he readied his weapon.
"Put your backs to the walls on either side of the car now!" A man shouted from outside. The group stood their ground.
Suddenly, they heard a sound from above them. They all looked up to see the top of the train car open. A tear gas grenade dropped onto the floor from the top.
"Move!" Abraham shouted.
Everyone tried to get away but the grenade exploded. The train car immediately filled with gas. Everyone was coughing and gagging and couldn't see. In the chaos, Rick was able to grab the sharp chunk of wood he had been carving out. Sarah was coughing but was trying her best to shield AJ's face from the gas. The door opened and several men wearing gas masks entered. They pulled out Rick, Daryl, Kenny, Glenn, Luke, Bob, and Wyatt and threw them on the ground. Rick was disoriented and was knocked unconscious by a kick to the face from one of the Termites.
Rick started to wake up as he was being dragged inside an industrial building. He could barely make out the sight of a bloody body on a table with two men standing over it. He could hear the sound of a saw cutting through flesh. The 7 of them, along with 6 more men, were brought to a long metal trough and forced to kneel in front of it in a long row. Everyone had their mouths gagged and were helpless to do nothing but squirm.
Rick and Kenny looked down the row and noticed a familiar face at the very end; Sam. He and Kenny had met him and his girlfriend on their run with Carol during the time many people were sick at the prison. Sam also recognized Rick and they both exchanged looks. Kenny noticed another familiar face; Arvo. He was kneeling next to Sam looking horrified. Kenny thought to himself, is he about to meet the same fate as the kid he almost killed himself?
The sound of a man sharpening his knives and another man practicing his swing with a bat only added to the intense fear and horror in the room. All anyone could think is, what's gonna happen to them?
"All right." The man sharpening his blade said, signaling that he was done sharpening.
He and the guy with the bat walked over to the end of the trough— to Sam. The man readied his bat as Sam whimpered in fear. He swung the bat, hitting Sam in the back of the head so hard that it knocked him out. The other man pulled Sam's head back and slit his throat, causing blood to gush out. It was all done in such a fluent motion, that it was clear that they've done this plenty of times.
Everyone started freaking out and squirming, knowing what their fate was. The bat guy then knocked Arvo unconscious, allowing the knife man to cut his throat. Kenny winced at the sound of Arvo's blood spewing out. One by one, each guy was killed the same way. Rick pulled the sharp wood from his sleeve and started to cut at his restraints.
Gareth walked in right as they were getting ready to execute Wyatt, who was next to Glenn. He was holding a book. "Hey, guys. What were your shot counts?" He asked.
"38." The bat man said as he hit Wyatt. The knife man then slit his throat.
Glenn and the rest of the group winced really hard and started to squirm in anger. Wyatt was their friend and these maniacs murdered him. Glenn saw the blood from Wyatt creep into his view. He knew that he was next and was terrified. The bat man stood behind Glenn and got ready to hit him. Glenn closed his eyes and grit his teeth in anticipation. The man started to swing his bat but was interrupted by Gareth.
"Hey!" Gareth said, stopping the guy mid-swing. "Your shot count?" He asked the man with the knife.
"Crap, man, I'm sorry. It was my first roundup." The knife man said.
"After you're done here, go back to your point and count the shells. Kaylee won't be gathering them until tomorrow." Gareth said.
Danny came into the room and Kenny stared daggers at him. "Looks like we got a pretty good haul." Danny said.
"Looks like it." Gareth said.
"Hey. Hey, let me talk to you." Bob muffled, his mouth gag making it hard to talk.
Gareth ignored him. "We got seven from A, six from D?" He asked.
"Yeah." The knife man said.
"Hey, let me talk to you for a minute." Bob muffled again. "Let me talk to you."
Gareth sighed in annoyance and pulled down Bob's gag. "What?" He asked.
"Don't do this. We can fix this." Bob said.
"No, you can't." Gareth said.
"You don't have to do this. We told you there's a way out of all this. You just have to take a chance." Bob said.
"What's this turd blabbing about?" Danny asked.
"We have a man who knows how to stop it. He has a cure. We just have to get him to Washington. You don't have to do this, man. We can put the world back to how it was." Bob said.
Gareth shook his head. "You can't go back, Bob." He said. He put the gag back on Bob's mouth.
"We can! You don't have to do this!" Bob muffled out.
Gareth went over to Rick and kneeled in front of him. He removed the gag from his mouth. Rick just started intensely into his eyes.
"We saw you go into the woods with a bag and come out without it. Had to pull my spotters back before we could go look for it. What was in it?" Gareth asked. Rick just kept staring at him. Daryl and Kenny were eyeing him intensely too.
"You hid it, right? In case things went bad? Smart." Danny said.
"Still, we'll find it. But it's too dangerous to go out there right now." Gareth said. He pulled a knife out and grabbed Luke by the back of the neck. He pulled him forward and put the knife inches from his eye as a threat. "What was in it? I'm curious. And it was a big bag." Gareth said. Rick still didn't answer and was just staring at him intensely. "You really gonna let me do this?" He asked with his knife still on Luke.
"Well, let me take you out there. I'll show you." Rick said, which was also a clear threat.
"Not gonna happen. This might." Gareth said, putting the knife even closer to Luke's eye. Luke cringed when the blade got so close. He could almost feel the blade on his eye.
"There's guns in it. AK-4. .44 Magnum. Automatic weapon. Nightscope. There's a compound bow and a machete with a red handle. That's what I'm gonna use to kill you." Rick said nonchalantly.
Gareth chuckled at the threat. He put the gag back on Rick's mouth. "Thanks." He said, patting Rick on the shoulders and standing up. "You have two hours to get them on the driers. Danny and I are gonna go back to public face. Now's the time we can get messy, but we need to dial it all in by sundown." Gareth said to his workers.
"Got it." The bat man said.
"Yes, sir." The knife man said.
Suddenly, everyone heard the sound of two loud gunshots outside. "What the hell was that?" Danny asked in confusion.
Gareth looked concerned and took out his radio. "Hey, Andy?" He said into the radio.
The bat man started to swing at Glenn again as Glenn winced in anticipation but he was stopped mid-swing by the sound of another gunshot.
This shot was followed by the sound of a huge explosion that shook the building.
(Intro)
Earlier that day...
Carol, Tyreese, and Bonnie were walking along the tracks. Carol was holding Judith. "We're close. I'm gonna get you all there. Make sure you're safe. But I'm not gonna stay." Carol said as they came across a Terminus sign.
"Oh, come on, Carol." Bonnie said in disappointment.
"I can't stay. I just can't." Carol said.
They noticed a walker approaching them from the woods. Judith started to cry. They expected Tyreese to go kill the walker but he didn't want to do it. "I can't. Not yet." Tyreese said as Carol handed Judith to him.
"You're going to have to be able to." Carol said. She went over to the walker and stabbed it in the head. She heard more walker growling and turned her head to see many more walkers approaching. "More." Carol said to Tyreese and Bonnie.
"Come on. Let's go." Bonnie said. They picked up their things and went into the woods.
They hid behind the dirt from the walkers but they kept coming in their direction. "Shit, they're still coming. We have to move." Bonnie said. Suddenly, they started hearing rapid gunshots in the distance. The sound drew the walkers away from them and toward the source of the gunshots. The three of them looked at each other in confusion.
After the walkers cleared out, they came out of the woods back to the spot they were at before. "That gunfire, it could have been from Terminus." Tyreese said.
"Someone was attacking them." Bonnie said.
"Or they were attacking someone." Carol said.
"Do we even want to find out?" Tyreese asked.
"Yeah. There's another track due east. It'll get us there. We'll be real careful. We're gonna get answers." Carol said.
A man from Terminus was set up next to a shack. He was preparing to light up a firework to launch. "10-minute count. You screw up, you're on your own, Martin." A woman said on his radio.
"You don't have to tell me. I wipe my own ass." Martin said into his radio. "Alex didn't get it. See, I knew the chick with the sword was bad news. Bitch looked like a weapon with a weapon."
"He was always a sloppy-ass mother." The woman said.
"Yeah, I told Albert I want the kid's hat after they bleed him out." Right as Martin finished his sentence, a gun was put to his head from behind.
"Keep your finger off the button and drop it." Carol said. Martin dropped the radio and put his hands up.
"Listen, y'all don't have to do this. Whatever you want, we got a place where everyone's welcome." Martin said.
"Shut up, man." Tyreese said.
"Okay."
"We're friends with the chick with the sword and the kid in the hat." Bonnie said.
They had Martin's hands bound and sitting on the floor inside the shack.
"They attacked us. We're just holding them." Martin said.
"I don't believe you." Carol said.
"Who else do you have? Do you know their names?" Bonnie asked.
"We just have the boy and the samurai, that's it. We're just protecting ourselves." Martin said.
"I don't believe you." Carol repeated.
"There's a bunch of us out there in six different directions. There was a lot of gunfire back home. We need to set off our charges all at the same time to confuse the dead ones away. That's good for you, too." Martin said.
"No, it isn't. There's a herd heading toward Terminus right now. We don't want to confuse them away. We're gonna need their help." Carol said as she packed her bag.
"It's a compound. They'll see you coming. If you even make it that far with all the cold bodies heading over." Martin said.
"Carol. How are you gonna do this?" Tyreese asked.
"I'm gonna kill people." Carol said.
"Carol, I'm coming with you. I'd be more helpful out there than sitting in here." Bonnie said. Carol nodded.
"Judith and I will be fine. You two go." Tyreese said.
"We'll be back soon." Bonnie said. She and Carol left and Tyreese closed the door behind them.
Carol and Bonnie were kneeling next to a dead walker smearing blood and guts on them. "I've never had to do this before." Bonnie said.
"This is the only way we're getting inside without drawing attention." Carol said as she smeared her face with blood.
"Well, let's hope this works." Bonnie said.
Bonnie and Carol walked among the walkers until they reached Terminus. They were on a hill that overlooked the place from above. They could hear someone shouting down by the train cars.
"Put your backs to the wall on either side of the car now!" They heard a man shout from below. They then heard a loud bang from inside one of the train cars. The two of them went to the gated fence and looked down at Terminus. They could see Rick, Daryl, Kenny, Luke, Glenn, Bob, and Wyatt being dragged away.
"It's them. What are we gonna do?" Bonnie asked.
Carol set her bag down and pulled out her sniper rifle. She aimed down the sights to get a good look at the area down below. She saw some people killing walkers at the fence, like they used to do at the prison. She then spotted a propane tank on the other side of the people at the fence began to retreat as a huge herd of walkers were approaching. "I have an idea, but it's crazy." Carol said.
"Oh, geez. What are you planning, Carol?" Bonnie asked.
"I'm gonna let the walkers in. Let me see your rifle." Carol said. Bonnie handed her the rifle.
Carol set up a firework in the barrel of the gun and angled it toward the propane tank. She then aimed her sniper rifle at the tank and fired two shots but missed. She shot one more time and managed to hit the tank. Steam started to pour out of it as the herd of walkers pressed up against the fence. Carol then lit the firework. It launched and successfully hit the tank, causing a huge explosion with a giant fireball. It blew back and incinerated dozens of walkers and destroyed the fences. The rest of the herd started to flood into Terminus.
"That was insane, Carol. Badass, but insane." Bonnie said.
"We have to get going. We have to blend in with the herd and walk in with them." Carol said. She and Bonnie started making their way towards the rest of the walkers that were going towards Terminus.
Inside Terminus
Everyone was standing back up after the explosion knocked them off their feet. "The hell was that?" Danny asked as he got up. They could hear even more gunfire happening outside.
Gareth got off the ground and looked around bewildered. "You stay here." He said to the bat guy and knife guy.
"Gareth, these guys aren't going anywhere." Bat guy said.
"Stay here until I know what's happening!" Gareth said urgently. He and Danny rushed out of the room.
"So we just sit here?" Knife guy asked.
Bat guy shrugged. "We got a job to do." He said. Glenn and the others were struggling to get free and Rick was still sawing at his restraints with his sharpened piece of wood.
"You there, Gareth?" Knife guy said on his radio.
"He's busy." Bat guy said.
"You smell the smoke? You hear the shots? He could be dead. The hell we doing here? The whole place could be going up." Knife guy said.
"You went on one roundup and you blew protocol. We don't deal with security. That ain't our job. This is." Bat guy said. Knife guy turned around and started muttering to himself in frustration. "Hey, look at me." Bat guy said.
"What?" Knife guy asked as he turned around just in time to see Rick stab the bat guy in the neck from behind with his piece of wood. Knife guy pleaded but Rick proceeded to also stab him in the throat and chest.
"Rick!" Kenny muffled out. Rick ran over and ungagged and untied him.
Train Car A
Abraham banged his fists against the wall. "What the hell is going on?" He asked in frustration. They could hear the explosion that happened and all the gunshots currently happening.
"Someone hit them." Michonne said.
"Maybe our people got free." Sasha said.
"Excuse me." Eugene said. He went over and knelt in front of the door.
"What the hell are you doing?" Rosita asked.
"I might be able to use this shell to compromise the door. From the sound of things, there may not be anybody left to open it." Eugene said.
"Eugene, I'm sorry, but shut up." Tara said.
"Okay." He said.
"Hey. My dad's gonna be back." Carl said to everyone. 'They all are." He added, looking at Clementine. She nodded in appreciation.
"Definitely. Kenny's a tough old bastard." Mike said.
"They're right. They'll come back. And we need to get ready to fight our way out with them when they do." Maggie said. Abraham and Rosita exchanged looks. Maggie took out Glenn's watch and looked at it, feeling worried for her husband. She then started to use it to carve out a giant splinter.
AJ started to cry and Sarah tried to calm him down. "Shhhh. I know, AJ. It's loud out there. I know you're scared. I'm scared too." She said. AJ was still crying.
Clementine smiled at her. "Let me see him." She said. Sarah passed AJ into Clem's arms. He immediately began to settle down but was still making little whining noises. "You have to be strong, AJ. This will be over soon." Clementine said. AJ looked into her eyes and stopped crying.
"You're really good with him." Amanda said.
"Thanks." Clementine said, rocking AJ slowly.
"Who's kid is it?" LeRoy asked.
"His parents died. We've been looking out for him ever since." Clementine said.
"He seems to particularly like you." Rosita said with a smile.
"I spend a lot of time with him. He's special to me." Clementine said.
"He's lucky to have you, Clementine?" Carl said. Clementine smiled at him but her face fell when she saw that he looked sad.
"What's wrong?" Clementine asked.
"It's nothing." Carl said, looking away.
"Carl, please talk to me." Clementine said. She handed AJ back to Sarah.
Carl sighed and paused for a moment. He pulled Clem to the side so the others couldn't hear. "When the prison was attacked and everyone was escaping, my dad and I found Judith's car seat. It was empty and covered in blood." Carl said, his voice cracking on the last part.
"Oh, no…" Clementine said sadly.
"She's gone, Clem. My baby sister's gone." Carl said sadly.
Clementine hugged Carl tightly. "I'm so sorry, Carl." She said.
"Thanks, Clem." Carl said, hugging her back.
Carol and Bonnie were walking slowly into Terminus among the herd. There was smoke and carnage all around them. People getting eaten. Walkers on fire. The sounds of screams, people shouting, and gunshots filled the air. Some Termites were shooting down walkers ahead of them.
Carol and Bonnie took cover behind different walls. Bonnie sniped the guy in front of them in the head with her rifle. Carol used her automatic rifle to shoot down a guy on the roof.
Their gunshots alerted the walkers toward them and they got accidentally split up. Carol was forced to enter the building next to her through a door she was next to. Bonnie was cornered and had to flee deeper into Terminus grounds.
Inside
Rick and Kenny were untying everyone else. "If they got problems, we got a chance." Rick said.
"It sounded like a bomb." Glenn said as Kenny helped him up.
"Sounds like a damn war." Daryl said.
"We need some weapons." Kenny said.
"Right there." Luke pointed to a table with a bunch of large knives on them . They each grabbed one. Glenn grabbed the bat that was almost used on him. They saw the body of Gareth's brother, Alex, lying on a table. He had some of his limbs chopped off and skinned.
"What the hell are these people?" Bob asked in disgust.
"They ain't people." Daryl said.
They looked over at the dead bodies at the trough. "Fucking hell. Those bastards murdered Wyatt in cold blood." Kenny said.
"Fuck. Poor Wyatt, man." Luke said.
"What the fuck is happening in this place?" Kenny asked rhetorically.
Luke stabbed Wyatt in the head to prevent him from turning. Bob was about to stab the guy with the bat in the head but Rick stopped him. "Don't. Let him turn." He said.
The 6 of them left the area and entered the next room over. It looked like a storage area for human meat. Skinned body parts sitting in containers, on cutting boards, and hanging from the ceiling on chains. The group was shocked and disgusted.
"Cross any of these people, you kill 'em. Don't hesitate. They won't." Rick said.
"I can get behind that. These fuckers deserve to rot and turn." Kenny said.
Luke picked up a new machete for himself from the table. Daryl broke off a metal bar from a table to use as a weapon. They went over to the exit and looked outside. There were several walkers banging on a train car up ahead. They could hear people shouting for help from the inside.
"If we run, we can get by them. They're distracted." Rick said.
"We gotta let those people out." Glenn said. Rick just looked at him. "That's still who we are. It's got to be." He added. Rick reluctantly agreed.
They opened the door and ran towards the train car. They all took out the walkers surrounding the door and Glenn started to get the door open. He opened it and a single man came running out. The man was disheveled and insane. "We're the same!" He screamed at Glenn as he jumped on him. Glenn and Luke pushed him away and the man got in Rick's face.
"We're them!" The man screamed.
"Back off!" Rick said.
"We're the same!" The man yelled again. Rick pushed him away. The man started laughing hysterically and was taken down by a walker out of nowhere. Glenn killed the walker with his bat. They saw a bunch more walkers starting to pass by and Daryl pulled Glenn behind the train car out of sight so the walkers wouldn't notice them.
Carol entered a room full of hundreds of items from weapons to clothes, to accessories, and even children's toys. She looked on one of the tables and noticed Rick's watch. The watch she gave to Sam when she, Rick, and Kenny were on their run. She picked it up and put it in her pocket. She then noticed Daryl's crossbow and picked it up before leaving the room.
Rick and the others were still hiding behind the train car away from the walkers. "We got to double back." Luke said.
"A is that way. We go back, we don't know where we are." Rick said.
"We don't really have a choice, do we?" Daryl asked.
They heard loud gunshots nearby and saw two walkers be taken out. "Wait here." Rick said.
"Rick, what are you doing?!" Kenny asked.
Rick ran ahead and hid behind a car. He used the reflection of a rear view mirror on the ground to see the Termites who were gunning down the walkers approaching. A walker came from behind Rick but Daryl stabbed through the head in time with his metal bar. Rick nodded in thanks. Kenny joined the two of them. Glenn, Luke, and Bob waited to see what Rick was planning.
Rick waited for each Termite to pass by them while they were firing their guns at the walkers. Once the last guy passed, Rick snuck up behind him and stabbed him in the neck. He then took the AK-47 the guy was using and used it to mow down the 5 other Termites ahead.
Rick signaled to the rest of the group that it was clear. They all came out and moved ahead. "We're gonna have to double back." Rick said.
Luke was looking around and someone caught his eye. Someone familiar. "Wait. Is that— is that Bonnie?!" He said. He saw Bonnie shooting at walkers and running. She was wearing a makeshift poncho covered in blood and walker guts. Rick, Daryl, Kenny, Glenn, and Bob exchanged looks in astonishment. Bonnie ran over to them when she spotted them.
"Guys, come with me." She said urgently as soon as she got to them.
"Oh, my God. Bonnie, you're alive! How did you get here?" Luke asked.
"No time to explain. Follow me. I know how to get back to your train car from here." Bonnie said. "Come on!" She said, running off. They all followed her.
Carol found herself in the memorial room with all the candles and the names painted on the floor and the words 'NEVER AGAIN', 'NEVER TRUST', and 'WE FIRST, ALWAYS' written on the wall. She was making her way through the room when Mary came out from behind and aimed her gun at Carol.
"Drop your weapons and turn around. I want to see your face." Mary demanded. Carol just stood still. "Now!" Mary yelled.
Carol put Daryl's crossbow on the ground. She then pretended to put down her automatic rifle but then quickly turned around and fired at Mary, causing her to dive to the ground and drop her pistol.
Mary tried to crawl to her gun but Carol kicked it away. Mary pushed Carol into one of the candle stands and they wrestled each other to the ground. They managed to stand but Carol pushed Mary into another shelf of candles and they both fell again. They both were able to stand up but Carol managed to pull her rifle on Mary, stopping her from attacking.
Mary jut stood there sighing in defeat for a moment. 'The signs...they were real. It was a sanctuary. People came and took this place." Mary said.
Carol still had her gun aimed at her. "Just tell me where—" She was cut off by Mary continuing to talk.
"And they raped and they killed and they laughed over weeks." Mary said emotionally. "But we got out and we fought and we got it back. And we heard the message. You're the butcher...or you're the cattle."
"The men they pulled from that train car, where are they?" Carol asked, ignoring Mary's sob story. Mary just stood there refusing to answer. Carol shot her in the leg with her rifle, causing Mary to fall onto the floor and scream in pain. "Where are they?!" Carol yelled.
Mary still didn't answer her question. "Now...point it at my head." Mary said blankly. She started to laugh. "You could have been one of us. You could have listened to what the world is telling you."
"You lead people here and you take what they have and you kill them? Is that what this place is?" Carol asked, her gun still aimed at Mary.
"No, not at first. It's what it had to be. And we're still here." Mary said.
Carol lowered her gun. "You're not here. And neither am I." She said. She picked up Daryl's crossbow and went to exit the room. She opened the door with a bunch of walkers on the other side. The walkers ignored Carol because of the walker guts and rushed in, heading straight for Mary.
"No! No! No! Oh! No, God! Nooo!" Mary screamed as Carol left the room, leaving Mary to be eaten alive.
Train Car A
The rest of the group were still hard at work making weapons. Sasha was looking at Eugene, who was still working on the door. "What's the cure, Eugene?" Sasha asked.
"It's classified." Eugene said.
"Are you serious right now?" Jane said in an annoyed tone.
"We don't know what's gonna happen." Amanda said.
"You leave him be." Abraham said.
"Come on, man. Tell us something. We are surviving together now. Don't you think we deserve to know?" Mike asked.
"We're protecting your ass, Eugene. The least you can do is tell us what to expect when we get you to Washington." LeRoy said.
"We need to keep working." Maggie said.
"Yeah, but it's time to hear it. 'Cause we don't know what's coming next." Sasha said.
"What's next is we get out of this." Tara said.
"Even if I told you all, even if I provided step-by-step instructions complete with illustrations and a well-composed FAQ and I went red-ring, the cure would still die with me." Eugene said. Jane and Clementine looked at him suspiciously.
"I'm not gonna let that happen." Abraham said.
"The best-case scenario, we step out into a hellstorm of bullets, fire, and walkers.I'm not fleet of foot. I sure as hell can't take a dead one down with sharp buttons and hella confidence." Eugene said.
"Yeah, but we can and we will." Michonne said.
"You don't owe us anything. Not yet. But we just want to hear it." Sasha said.
"You don't have to." Rosita said.
Eugene hesitated for a moment and stood up. "I was part of a 10-person team at the Human Genome Project to weaponize diseases to fight weaponized diseases. Pathogenic microorganisms with pathogenic microorganisms. Fire with fire." Eugene said. Everyone was listening to him with either intrigue or skepticism. "Interdepartmental drinks were had, relationships made, information shared. I am keenly aware of all the details behind fail safe delivery systems to kill every living person on this planet. I believe with a little tweaking on the terminals in DC, we can flip the script. Take out every last dead one of them. Fire with fire." Everyone was just looking at Eugene, unsure of what to think. "All things being equal, it does sound pretty badass." Eugene added.
It was silent for a moment. "Okay. I'm just gonna pretend I understood what any of that meant." Mike said.
"Let's get back to work." Maggie said.
Suddenly, they heard someone unlatch the lock on the train car door, catching everyone's attention. Rick slid the door open. "Come on! Fight to the fence!" He shouted as he fired his AK-47 at the approaching walkers. Daryl, Kenny, Glenn, Bob, and Bonnie were killing walkers below to give time for the others to escape the train car. Carl hugged Rick quickly and Clem hugged Kenny.
"Do not leave his side!" Abraham shouted, referring to Eugene.
"Protect Sarah. She's holding AJ!" Kenny shouted.
There was smoke and walkers everywhere. The place was being completely overrun. Everyone started fighting their way towards the fence closest to them. The ones that were in the train car were killing the walkers with their makeshift weapons, keeping the walkers away from Eugene and AJ.
Jane kicked a walker in the leg, sending it to the ground and then stabbed it in the head. Michonne used her makeshift double-edged blade to stab a walker. Carl held another walker for her to stab.
Rosita got to the fence and stabbed the walker clinging to it from the other side. "Up and over!" She shouted. Everyone started climbing over the fence.
'Let's go! Move!" Abraham was shouting. Rick and Kenny were still shooting at the walkers, buying the others some time. They noticed Gareth, Andy, and Danny come out on the roof with their guns drawn. They both started shooting up at them, Rick aiming for Gareth and Kenny aiming for the St. John brothers. Rick managed to hit Gareth in the shoulder and Kenny grazed Andy on the head.
"Let's go!" Abraham shouted to them. He and Daryl were waiting on them. The walkers were starting to close in and Rick and Kenny ran for the fence. Daryl and Kenny climbed over followed by Rick. Abraham was the last one to climb over just as the walkers got to the fence and tried to grab his leg.
Rick and Daryl led the group to the spot in the woods where he hid the bag of guns. "It's right here." Daryl said. He wiped away the dirt and leaves they put over the shovel and handed the shovel to Rick. Rick started to dig.
"The hell are we still around here for?" Abraham asked.
"Guns, some supplies." Rick answered. "Go along the fences. Use the rifles. Take out the rest of 'em." He said.
"What?" Mike said.
"They don't get to live." Rick said. He finished digging and pulled the bag out.
"Damn right, they don't. We're gonna finish this." Kenny said.
"Guys, we got out. It's over." Glenn said.
"It's not over till they're all dead." Rick said, loading his colt python.
"The hell it isn't. That place is on fire. Full of walkers." Rosita said.
"We don't have to go running back in there. We can pick off whoever we see from out here. We have to put an end to these sick sons of bitches!" Kenny said.
"This is bullshit." Jane said. Kenny just glared at her in annoyance.
"I'm not dicking around with this crap. We just made it out." Abraham said.
"The fences are down. They'll run or die." Maggie said to Rick.
"Hey, Bonnie, how did you know we were there in the first place?" Luke asked.
Bonnie smiled when she saw Carol approaching from behind them. "It was all thanks to her." She said, pointing to Carol.
The group turned around to see Carol standing out in the open holding her weapons and Darl's crossbow. She didn't know how the group would react to her, considering Rick and Kenny kicked her out, so she was keeping her distance. When Daryl saw her, his eyes lit up. He immediately ran over to her and gave her a big, long, loving hug. They both shed tears of happiness.
Rick and Kenny smiled at each other and went over to Carol and Daryl as they were still hugging, everyone else that knew Carol followed.
Carol and Dary finally ended their embrace, allowing Rick to walk up to her. A smile formed across his face as they locked eyes. "Did you do that?" Rick asked. Carol smiled through the tears forming in her eyes and nodded. They embraced each other strongly. "Thank you." Rick whispered.
Carol and Kenny then embraced. "We owe you our lives." Kenny said. Carol smiled.
Carol then turned back to Rick. "You have to come with me." She said.
Carol and Bonnie led the group to the shed they were staying at. They could see Tyreese come out holding Judith. Rick immediately dropped his things and ran to them as fast as he could with happy tears in eyes, along with Carl following behind. Sasha was running behind them to reunite with her brother.
Rick got Judith from Tyreese when he got to him and immediately embraced her closely, feeling so overwhelmingly relieved and so did Carl. Tyreese and Sasha embraced each other tightly, shedding happy tears. The rest of the group were smiling at this sweet reunion, especially Clementine who had earlier learned from Carl that Judith was likely dead. She felt so happy for Carl and Rick. It seemed so rare for good things like this to happen.
Rick expressed his gratitude and thanks to Tyreese with a firm grip to his shoulder. Tyreese did the same in response.
Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita were standing in the far back, looking happy for them but impatient to move on.
About 5 minutes later, the group were still standing around outside the shed. Michonne, Daryl, Kenny, Clementine, and Sarah were standing around Rick, Carl, and Judith. Clementine was holding AJ and moved him closer to Judith so they could interact. AJ and Judith made eye contact and started making baby noises to each other.
"Awww, they're so cute." Sarah said.
"They seem to like each other. They spent a lot of time together at the prison." Clementine said.
"Little Ass-kicker's first friend." Daryl joked. Rick, Carl, and Michonne laughed.
"I'm sure this little guy is gonna kick some ass, too." Rick joked, softly shaking AJ's tiny hand. Clementine smiled.
"He will. I'm sure of it." Kenny said.
Since there were dead walkers all around the shed that weren't there when they left, Carol and Bonnie were catching up with Tyreese on what happened with Martin in the shed while they were gone.
"What happened?" Carol asked.
"There were a bunch of walkers out here and he got his hands around Judith's neck." Tyreese said. When Carol heard that, she immediately tried to go into the shed to confront Martin but Tyreese stopped her. "No, he's dead. I— I had to. So I did. I could." He said. Carol nodded.
"You did the right thing, Tyreese." Bonnie said. Tyreese nodded uncomfortably.
"I don't know if the fire is still burning." Rick said, referring to Terminus.
"It is." Carol said.
"Yeah. We need to go." Rick said.
"Yeah, but where?" Luke asked.
"Somewhere far away from there." Rick said. The group started to pick up there things and move on.
Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita were standing off to the side. "We'll talk to him. Not just yet." Abraham said. He picked up their things and they followed the rest of the group.
This large group of 23 people walked down the tracks away from Terminus. They passed a Terminus sign and Rick stopped in front of it. He used a cloth covered in blood to scratch out everything on the sign except the word 'Sanctuary' and wrote the word 'No' above it. Rick threw the cloth on the ground and hurried up to the rest of the group, leaving the new sign; 'NO SANCTUARY'.
(Outro)
Almost another 2 years since my last chapter. Sorry about that guys. Just know that I never forget about this story and actually think about it a lot when watching the main show. I just sometimes get burnt out or have writer's block and life just ends up getting in the way. But now that the show is ending with season 11, I actually have a goal to strive for and don't have to worry about the show going on for too long and burning me out completely. It will still be a challenge getting there so I don't expect to post a chapter on a regular schedule, but I can make the wait shorter. Be sure to leave a REVIEW if you enjoyed this chapter! Reviewing lets me know that you guys are enjoying and interested in this story! Thanks for reading! :)
