(A/N: Before I start the story I would like to say I own nothing but my OCs, the Owl House characters belong to Disney and Dana Terrace respectively. Also I will be using the 1st opening of Demon Slayer in the second chapter for a theme song)

Chapter 1 A Burning Flame:

A 15 year old boy grumbled as he walked through the halls of a high school. He had light skin with freckles dotting his cheeks, choppy dark reddish orange hair, slightly pointed ears and dark emerald green eyes. He was wearing a blue sleeveless hoodie, a dark orange tshirt, black jeans, a blue bandana around his head, an orange scarf and black combat boots. The boy walked to the front office.

"They're inside," the secretary said.

The boy huffed as he walked inside the principal's office.

"Kailin, nice of you to join us," he said.

The boy, now known as Kailin, sat down in a chair.

"Another fight?" a voice beside him asked.

Turning towards it, Kailin saw a Latina girl who looked to be a year younger than him. She had tan skin, short dark brown hair and hazel- brown eyes. She was wearing a half white, half indigo hoodie with cat ears, dark leggings with jean shorts over them and white slip on shoes. This was Luz Noceda, Kailin's adoptive sister and best friend.

"Yeah. What about you?" he asked.

Luz held up a snake and an action figure.

"I just did my Azura book report," she said.

"Your book report is the reason why you're here," Principal Hal said, pointing to a window.

The two teens turned to see a couple of students running through the halls as snakes attacked them.

"Ohh! So, that's what happened to the snakes," Luz said.

A latina woman sighed as she rubbed her temples. Like Luz, she had tan skin, dark brown hair tied into a small bun and hazel- brown eyes. She was wearing medical scrubs. This was Camila Noceda, Kailin's adoptive mother. The latina woman held up a giant firecracker.

"And what were you going to do with this?" she asked her daughter.

Luz looked at the ground.

"That was for the act 3 closer," she mumbled.

Camila turned to her son.

"And it's not just her. Mijo, why do you keep getting into fights?" she asked the older boy.

"Mom, a kid was going to get jumped because he accidently spilled a bowl of chili on the football quarterback and no one wouldn't help him," Kailin said.

Camila shook her head.

"Kailin, I love that you're willing to stand up for people but that doesn't mean you pick a fight with the older kids, especially with your temper," she said.

Kailin scoffed.

"It's not that bad," he said.

"Are you kidding me! You landed a junior and two seniors in the hospital three weeks ago," the principal said.

Kailin stood up and slammed his hands on the desk, his green eyes getting darker.

"First off, the junior was trying to give a sophomore a one sided beatdown and those two seniors were itching to pick a fight with me!" he growled.

Luz placed a hand on his back.

"Kai, calm down," she said.

Kailin took a breath before sitting down.

"Luz, you're no better either. I love your creativity and Kailin, your fighting spirit has made you a role model for the younger kids but you two are getting out of hand. You're both in this office way too much. If you both can't learn to separate fantasy from reality and get your temper under control, you may need to spend the summer here," Camila said, handing a brochure to them.

Kailin took it and looked at it. Luz looked at it over his shoulder. The two siblings looked at each other before Luz gained a determined look and turned to her mother.

"Don't worry Mom, we won't let you down. No more weirdness!" Luz declared, standing up.

The snake leaped out of her hand and bit the principal's neck, knocking him out of his chair.

"That doesn't count right?" Luz asked.

Kailin face palmed.

At the Noceda Residence:

Kailin and Luz stood outside of their house as Camila came to wish them goodbye.

"Oh, my two babies!" she said, hugging the both of them.

She pulled back from the hug.

"Now, don't worry. Summer camp is only going to be three months. You'll be so busy balancing checkbooks and learning to…appreciate public radio, the time will fly by!" Camila said.

"Mom, we don't like any of that stuff," Kailin said.

Luz nodded.

"I like editing anime clips to music and reading fantasy books with convoluted back stories," she said.

"And I like martial arts and playing soccer," Kailin added.

"Kids, your fantasy world and sports are holding you back. Mija, do you have any friends besides Kailin who aren't imaginary, drawn or reptilian? And Kailin, are there kids in school you can hang out with aside from Luz and your soccer playmates?" Camila asked.

Luz pulled her Azura book out and walked towards the trash can.

"Summer camp is a chance to make some friends, but you have to try. Can you do that?" she asked.

Luz placed the book in the trash can.

"Yes, mom," the two teens said.

Camila's phone vibrated.

"Oh. I gotta go to work," she said.

Camila kissed both of them on the forehead.

"The bus is coming soon, text me when you get there. Cuidate mucho, niños, que te vaya bien," she said before leaving.

"Bye, Mom," they said.

Once Camila was out of sight, Luz dug around in the trash can, looking for her book.

"Where is it? Where is it?" she said.

A tiny hoot was heard and the two siblings looked up to see a small owl holding a sack that had Luz's book in it. The owl took off.

"Tiny trash thief!" Luz shouted, chasing after it.

"Luz, wait!" Kailin shouted, chasing after his sister.

The small owl hoppled through the woods as the siblings ran after it. Kailin stopped running as he grabbed Luz by her hood.

"Luz, just hold on a min-" Kailin started before trailing off.

In front of them was an old, abandoned house. Luz saw the small owl running into the house. She growled and ran after it, slipping out of Kai's grip. The older boy groaned and ran after her. The door closed behind them as a bright light went out through the room.

Appearing out of nowhere, a magic door opens and the small owl walks out with Luz and Kai running out behind it.

"Stop adorably hopping away you little-woah," Luz said trailing off when she noticed they were in a large tent filled with stuff.

"Que diablos?" Kai said in Spanish, looking around.

"I thought I had a lot of weird stuff but this is impressive," Luz said.

"Finally, you're back," a voice said.

The two teens moved to the front of the tent. Kai lifted the flap to see a tall slender woman who looked to be in her mid to late forties. She had ivory skin, maroon lips, untamed long hair with two shades of gray which was covered by a scarf and golden eyes.

"Let's see what we got here," she said.

The owl landed on a staff and she turned in place.

"What the-?" Kai said.

She began to toss out a smartphone, a diamond ring and a golden chalice.

"Garbage, Garbage, Garbage," she said.

She then pulled out a pair of googly eyed glasses.

"Now this will make me rich," she said, putting glasses on.

She reached into the sack and pulled out Luz's Azura book.

"Hmm…this will make some good kindling," she said.

Reacting quickly, Kai ran forward and grabbed it. The woman jumped in surprise but when she caught a glimpse of his reddish orange hair and green eyes, she gasped.

"Kendrick?" she said, softly

"Sorry but that belongs to my sister! Luz, run!" he shouted.

They sprint towards the door which closes suddenly and flies to the lady who was holding a key.

"You two aren't going anywhere," she said, taking the glasses off and glaring at them.

Kai grabs his sister's hand and runs under the tent. They stopped running when they saw a beautiful but wild town in front of them filled with all sorts of creatures.

"Where the hell are we?" Kai asked.

A cute little fairy flew towards them.

"Hey, little fairy, do you know where we are?" Luz asks.

"Give me your skin!" it says, showing its sharp teeth.

Luz screamed and Kai kicked the fairy away.

"Where are we? Did we die? Are we in the bad place?" Luz asks.

The two teens were both grabbed by their collars.

"You wish," the lady said.

She placed the kids on some stools. Kai jumped in front of his sister and glared at her

"You can hurt me all you want but if you touch my sister, you're in for a bad time," he growls.

The lady raised an eyebrow.

"Hurt you? Why would I hurt potential customers?" she asks.

She picks up tons of trinkets

"Want a human foot filled with holes? Weird green candy? Ooh, how about a black mirror filled with sadness," she asks, holding up a portable tv.

Luz laughs slightly as she gets off the stool.

"That's not all it can do," she said, grabbing some batteries and turning the tv on, attracting some customers.

"What are your names?" the woman asks.

"I'm Luz Noceda and this is my brother Kailin," Luz said.

"Most people call me Kai," the older boy said.

The lady nodded as she took some money from the customers.

"Well, that was some quick thinking for a human and a hybrid," she said.

Kai raised an eyebrow.

"Hybrid?" he asks.

"Also, that's a weird thing for another human to say," Luz said.

"Oh, dear child. I'm not like you," she said.

She took her scarf off showing two pointy ears before standing up on the table.

"I am Eda the Owl Lady. The most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles!" she declared.

"A witch?" Luz gasps.

"I am respected, feared…" Eda began before getting cut off.

"Busted!" a voice said.

A fist came down, smashing the tv and making the crowd run away. A large, bulky man with a pointy mask appeared.

"Eda the Owl Lady, you're under arrest for misuse of magic and demonic misdemeanors," he said, holding up a wanted poster.

"A witch criminal," Luz said.

"You are ordered to come with me to the Conformitorium," he said, grabbing Eda's arm.

Eda yanked her arm back.

"Would you guys stop following me around? I haven't done anything," Eda said.

The man grabbed the two kids.

"You two are coming too for fraternizing with a criminal," he said.

Luz had a scared look on her face. Kai kicked the guy in the face, knocking him down and getting him to release the two kids. They grunted as they landed on the ground.

"Nice one kid," Eda said, gathering her stuff with her staff.

She pulled the key out and pressed the button, the door flying towards her. Eda took off running.

"Follow me," she said.

The two kids ran after her.

"This is crazy! If we die here our mom is going to kill us!" Luz said.

"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you kids," Eda assured her.

"You don't even know us," Kai said.

"Sure I do. You're Jenny and Kendrick's son," Eda said.

Kai stopped in his tracks.

"You knew my mom and dad?" he asked.

"Yep. I grew up with them…well more like I grew up with your dad considering he's my kid brother," Eda said.

Kai blinked.

"Wait a minute, so you're my aunt?" he asks.

Eda nodded as she grabbed them, flying her staff to the sky. Kai holds on tightly while Luz grips onto his hoodie for dear life.

"What's going on? Where are we?" Luz asks.

"This is the Boiling Isles. Every myth you humans have is caused by a little of our world leaking into yours," Eda said as a griffng flew by them.

"A griffin," Luz said.

"Yep we got all of them: Griffins, vampires, giraffes," she said.

"Giraffes?" Kai asked.

"Yeah we banished them. Bunch of weirdos," Eda said.

"Please, tell me about my dad," Kai said.

"And how to get home," Luz added.

"I'll tell you if you agree to help me," Eda said, climbing off her staff.

Kai looked down to see Eda's hand still gripping the staff.

"Uh…" he said.

Eda turned and grabbed it, snapping it on.

"Sorry, that tends to happen," she said.

"But how did you know I was their son?" the redhead asks.

"First off, you have the same red hair and eyes as him, you're wearing his bandana and you have Jenny's facial appearance. Speaking of which, how is she?" Eda asks.

Kai looks at the ground.

"I'm sorry but my mom died in a car crash 11 years ago," he said.

Eda looked at him with a sad look.

"Sorry to hear that, kid," she said.

Eda led them to the front door of a house.

"Wait, aren't you worried about the guards?" Luz asked.

Eda waved her off.

"Don't worry, I've got an amazing security system," she said.

"Hoot Hoot, what's the password?" an owl on the front door asked.

Eda poked it in the eyes.

"Ow!" the owl exclaimed.

"We don't have the time Hooty, open up," Eda said.

"Okay, Okay, geez," Hooty said, opening the door.

They walked inside.

"Welcome to the Owl House," Eda said, snapping her fingers.

"Where I hide away from the modern day pressure and the cops and ex boyfriends," she said.

Kai looked around.

"Sweet digs," he said.

"Do you live here all by yourself?" Luz asked.

The sound of giant footsteps were heard. Eda shook her head.

"Actually I have a roommate. Kendrick lived here for a few months until he got his own place in the human realm after his 20th birthday," Eda said.

A large shadow headed towards them.

"Who dares intrude upon me? The king of demons!" a small demon with dark grat fur, yellow eyes, a skull for a face and two horns one of which is broken, said.

Luz gasped.

"¡Ay que lindo!" she exclaimed, scooping the small demon into her arms.

She hugged him tightly.

"Eda, he's so cute! Who's a widdle guy? Who's a widdle guy? Is it you? Is it you?" she says.

"No! I don't know who your "widdle guy" is! Who is this monster?!" King exclaims.

Kai grabbed Luz and pulled her back.

"King, this is Luz the human and Kailin, Jenny and Ken's son. They're here to help us with our…situation," Eda said.

Kailin grunted as King climbed on his head to get a closer look at him.

"Oh, Jennifer and Kendrick. Your father was a worthy servant. I hope you'll be a worthy substitute," King said.

Kai raised an eyebrow.

"What?" he asked, turning to Eda.

The older woman put her hands up.

"Just…let me explain. King was once a mighty king of demons, until his crown was stolen and he became…this," Eda says, gesturing to King who was trapped in Luz's embrace once again.

"You mean this little bundle of joy?" she asks.

"The crown is being held by the evil Warden Wrath and locked away behind a magical force field that only a human can break through…a human like you two. If you help us retrieve his crown, we'll send you back home to your realm. So, Whaddya say? Plus who can say no to this cute face?" Eda asked, holding King up.

"No! Don't encourage them!" King exclaimed.

"We don't really have a choice do we?" Kai sighs.

"Not really, but I'll make a deal. In this house, I have something that your father wanted me to give you if you'd ever come to the Isles. Help me and I'll give it to you," Eda said.

Kai looked at her with a skeptical look before nodding.

"Okay. we'll help," he said.

"Great! Let's go!" Eda said, picking them both up with King following behind them.

"Okay, but where exactly are we going?" Luz asked.

"Somewhere fun," the older lady said.

Later that night:

Kailin looked at the scary building as thunder claps were heard.

"Okay, our definition of fun is entirely different," he said.

"The Conformitorium, a place for those considered unsuitable for society," Eda said.

Luz grabbed a wanted poster from the wall.

"Woah, these guys really have the hots for you ," she said.

"Yep, but they can never catch us. Too slippery," Eda said, winking.

"You should've seen Kendrick in action. No one can escape unscathed when he is around," King said.

"He moved like wind and water, he was as fast as lighting, punched like earth and was unpredictable like fire," Eda said, smiling as she remembered her brother.

"What happened to him?" Kai asks.

"No one knows. He came to the Boiling Isles and then just vanished," his aunt said.

"Alright, listen, we're going to climb to the top of the tower where they are holding my crown," King said, pointing towards it.

"And I'm going to make sure Warden Wrath is distracted," Eda said.

Luz gasps excitedly.

"Do we need disguises?" she asked.

"Uhhhh…" Eda said.

Luz pulled her cat hoodie up.

"I've been wanting to use this. Meow Meow," she said.

Kai shook his head as he pulled his hood over his head and lifted his scarf over his face.

"It's hideous," King said.

"You'll fit right in," Eda said.

She slammed her staff on the ground and a ring appeared beneath them.

"Hang on tight," she said.

An ice pillar launched them up towards a window. Kai quickly grabbed onto the ledge before they could fall while Luz held onto his shoulders. King climbed over the two siblings and landed inside of the building. Using all of his strength, Kai pulled them up as they climbed inside. The group of three looked around to see cells all over the place.

"Hey, Cat girl, Gang kid. How did you get out of your cells?" a girl asks.

They turned to her.

"Oh, I'm not a cat," Luz said, pulling her hood down.

"And I'm not in a gang. Also we're not criminals," Kai said.

"If you're just like your pops, you might be," King said.

"Neither are we. The stupid warden likes to lock people up who didn't fit in. Like, I write fanfics of food falling in love. I like food, I like love…Just let me write about it!" she ranted.

"I'm here because I like to eat my own eyeballs," one said.

"We are agents of fwee expwession! They will never siwence us!" a small white creature said.

"Yeah, she's into conspiracy theories," the girl said.

"The world is a simuwation! We are but pwaythings for a higher being!" the creature said.

"Those aren't crimes. You guys are just being yourselves," Kai said.

The sound of thudding footsteps were heard.

"It's Warden Wrath! Hide!" the fanfic writer said.

Kai grabbed Luz and King and ran into a giant cell. He closed the door as a man with a glowing mask and large beak walked inside.

"I can hear you. Just what are you fools whispering about?" he asks.

Luz held onto Kai's arm tightly. The warden turned towards the cell they were in.

"Fight against the oppwessor! We will wesist! We will conquer! We will never be afwaid of you, you old cweep!" the conspiracy prisoner said.

Warden Wrath opened the door to her cell.

"Hooway! I'm fwee!" she said.

But before she could run away, Warden Wrath grabbed her and started to choke her. Kai growled and moved to rush forward.

"Kai, no," Luz said, grapping his sleeve to stop him from interfering.

"Let this be a lesson to you all. There's no place in society for you if you can't fit in," he said, walking out.

Once he was gone, Kai lifted the cell door as Luz ran out.

"Don't worry, I'll get you out of here," she said.

Luz tried to lift the lever but was unable to.

"No! My weak nerd arms!" she cried.

"Just get out of here kids, enjoy freedom for us," the fanfic writer said.

Kai sighed and led Luz away from the cells, following King as led them to a door that said "Contraband". There, Eda caught up to them.

"Hey, I just checked. The warden is busy tormenting some small creature. He won't be coming around anytime soon," she said.

"My crown is close! I can feel it!" King said, jumping onto the door knob.

"Aw! He gets so cute when he's thirsty for power," Eda said.

"It's not fair that they're all in there just for being themselves," Luz said.

"Why do people think being different from everyone else is a thing to be ashamed of?" Kai asks as the door knob landed in front of him.

King cheered as he ran inside.

"Come on, let's go before he hurts himself," Eda said.

"Ow!" King cried from the inside.

"Too late," Kai mumbled.

They walked inside to see a giant barrier and King running head first into but ended up getting knocked to the ground.

"We have a human and a hybrid, remember?" Eda reminds him.

"Oh right," King said.

The two siblings looked at each other before walking inside. Gazing inside, they saw tons of contraband and a crown shaped object in a box.

"Espera un minuto," Kai said.

"Is that?" Luz said, grabbing it.

Walking out, they find out it's really a paper crown from a burger joint.

"My crown! My Crown!" King cheers, putting it on.

Kai sighed.

"That's not a real crown is it?" Luz asked.

"Umm…no. But, Kendrick gave him that crown before he disappeared," Eda said.

Kai looked at her with a deadpan look. Eda sighs.

"Look at us kids. King and I don't have much in this world. We only have each other after Kendrick went missing. So if that dumb crown is important to him then it's important to me as well. It's like your dad always said, us weirdos have to stay together," she said, smiling.

Kai blinked before smiling.

"Well, we owe you one. Now, let's get out of here before the warden finds out and loses his head," Eda said before a shadow stood over her.

"Too late," Warden Wrath said.

His hand turns into a scythe and slices Eda's head off, landing in Luz's arms. The two siblings screamed in horror.

"Ow! Oh, I hate when that happens," Eda said, bluntly.

"Eda, are you okay?" Luz asked.

"Yeah, this is what happens when you get older," she said.

Kai shivered.

"Finally, I have cornered Eda the Owl Lady," Warden Wrath said, taking King' crown.

"Weh?!" King exclaimed.

"I knew my guards couldn't catch you but I knew if I took your pet's crown, you would come," Wrath said, crushing the crown in his hand.

"No! My power!" King cried in horror.

Kai glared at him.

"Dude, not cool!" he shouted, gaining the warden's attention.

'That hair and bandana,' he said in his head.

"What do you want? I never actually broke any of your rules. In front of you," Eda said.

"I want you…to go out with me," Warden Wrath said, pulling out a bouquet of flowers.

"What?" Eda and Luz said, confused.

"That's wrong on so many levels," Kai said.

"Go Boss!" one of the other guards said.

"You always eluded our capture. Always the one who got away. I find that alluring," he said.

"I hate everything you're saying right now," Luz said.

"Stay out of this!" Warden Wrath snaps, grabbing Luz.

"Get your hands off my sister!" Kai shouts, running to help his sister but is swatted away.

Kai grunted as he landed on the ground.

"So how about it, Owl Lady? The most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles and the feared Warden Wrath! We'd be the ultimate power couple! I mean it's not like you can say no," he said.

Kai groans as he moves to stand up. Looking ahead, he saw the guards holding Eda's body and King. He felt something deep inside of him awaken. Kai growls before getting to his feet and running towards Wrath.

"Hey!" he shouted.

Warden Wrath turned to see Kai running towards him. The redhead boy pulled his arm back as a ball of lightning appeared in his palm, shocking everyone.

"LET GO OF THEM!" he shouted.

He punched the warden square in the chest, making him release Eda and Luz before he was sent into a wall. Kai panted as he glared towards the other guards.

"You want some of this?" he growled, making the guards run away in fear.

"Kai!" a voice shouts.

Luz runs towards him and pulls her brother into a hug.

"That was increìble! Since when can you do magic?" she asked.

"You really are Kendrick's kid," Eda said.

Kai shrugged.

"I have no idea, I just did it," he said.

"Okay, you two, enough with the sibling banter. Let's get moving," Eda said.

They all climbed onto the staff and took off.

"Owl Lady! You won't escape from me again!" Warden Wrath shouted, arms turning into tentacles and running after them.

Rushing through the halls, Kai noticed some familiar cages.

"Luz, Eda, give me a hand," he said.

The three of them pulled the levers, opening the cells. A large force knocked everyone off the staff. They all groan as they stand up to see Wrath jump down in front of them.

"Kai, Luz, go back to the human realm," Eda said, tossing the key to Kai.

"What about you guys?" Luz asks.

"If you think he's bad, you should have seen her other boyfriend!" King said, running towards Eda.

"Not my boyfriend!" Eda said, dodging a hit.

His arm turning into scythes, Wrath charged at them but Kai thrust his hand forward and a stream of water knocked him back.

"Go! Go!" Eda said, putting the two kids on the staff before making it fly away.

Warden Wrath took his mask of showing his sharp teeth and breathed fire at them. Eda quickly formed a spell circle to absorb it and made another one to send it back. Kai and Luz watched the fight from above. Kai notices the three other prisoners.

"Luz, get them out of there," he said, pointing to the prisoners.

"What are you going to do?" she asks.

Kai gave her a smirk.

"Stand up for others," he said.

Back with Eda, she was thrown to the ground as King landed in her arms.

"No more running Owl Lady! Today, I capture you once and for all!" Wrath declared.

"Hey, Ugly!" a voice shouted.

Wrath turned to see Kai running towards him.

"Get away from my aunt!" he shouted.

He stomps the ground, making a boulder rise up and kicking it at the warden, knocking him back. Kai moved in front of Eda.

"What the hell are you doing here?! I told you to get out of here," Eda said.

"Us weirdos stick together and that means no one gets left behind. It's what Dad would've done, " he said, grinning at her over his shoulder.

He hears Wrath getting up and clenches his fists as electrical shocks cover his left arm and flames cover his right . Eda looks on in shock as she sees her little brother in Kai's place. Wrath turned his arms into scythes before charging at him. Kai moves back as Wrath swings at him. He dodged every swing before jumping over the warden and kicking him in his back. Kai shot two balls of fire at him, knocking the warden down.

"Eda, are you seeing this?" King asks.

Eda nodded as she smiled.

"Yep," she said.

Wrath growled as he stood up. He ran at Kai with his scythe arms.

"Kai!" King and Eda shouts.

But before the warden could reach him, Luz flew in with their prisoner friends who tackled the warden to the ground and tied him up with his tentacles.

"You brats! Who do you think you are?" he asks.

"Don't underestimate me, warden, for I am Luz, the human, warrior of peace. Now eat this sucker!" Luz shouts.

She pulls the giant firecracker out and whacks it but it flies off course. Kai manages to use his foot to kick it back.

"And I'm Kailin Noceda, the first human witch hybrid and the son of Kendrick!" Kai declares as fireworks flew out of the warden's mouth as he ran off.

"That was one of her better break ups," King quips.

"Not a break up. Now, let's bounce before someone else falls in love with me," Eda said.

Back at the Owl House:

Eda walks into the living room with two items wrapped in cloth.

"Well kids, a deal's a deal. Here Kai, this is for you," she said, handing the items to Kai.

The teen boy unwrapped the cloth to see a sheath and an ancient brown book. Grabbing the sheath, Kai slipped a dagger out of it. It had a black blade with orange and blue wrappings on the hilt.

"Whoa cool dagger," Luz said.

"That's not an ordinary dagger. That's a tanto. It's a rare and powerful weapon in the Boiling Isles. I was going to sell it but I think my kid brother would want his son to have it," she said, placing a hand on Kai's shoulder.

Kai smiled as he strapped the sheath to his waist.

"Thanks," he said.

"Well, it's time to send you two home," Eda said.

The key flew out of Luz's bag and into Eda's hand. She pressed the button and the door appeared in front of them. Kai looked at the portal and back at his father's book before turning to Eda.

"Hey, I…Um…I know we haven't known each other for that long, but this place is awesome and I want to stay," he said.

Eda looked at him confused.

"What?" she asked.

" I don't know what happened the day he disappeared but I do know that this dagger and book are the closest things I have to finding my dad. Besides, if I stay here, I can learn more about my heritage and how to use my magic," Kai said.

Eda sighed and turned to Luz.

"What about you?" she asked.

"If I have to be honest, this was the most fun I've ever had. Also I can't exactly leave without my big brother so I'm stayin and learning magic too!" she said.

Eda rubbed her neck.

"Um, a human can't really learn magic but after today I don't think that's going to stop you," Eda said.

"Come on Eda let them stay! She can make snacks!" King said as Eda picked him up.

"Well, I could use some help with keeping this goofball under control. Alright, I'll teach you how to be a witch and help you find clues about your father but you two have to work for me before any spells. Especially since I gave you the tanto and your dad's old book. You can use the book to learn new techniques but don't go around causing trouble. Deal?" she asks, holding her hand out.

"Deal," Kai said, shaking her hand.

Luz grabbed both of them and pulled them into a group hug.

Later that night, Kai was looking through his father's book while Luz slept in her sleeping bag beside him when his phone vibrated. He reached into his pocket to see that his mother had texted him asking how camp was going. Kai contemplated what to say before replying 'I think we're going to like it here'. Kai looked out the window and stared at the starry sky.

"I don't know where you are, dad, but I'm going to find you," he promised.

He took his bandana and scarf off before laying down on his sleeping bag.
