Volume 10
Magic Mirror
"RRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" It appeared to be a giant frog monster.
"Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-What IS that thing?" cried Kyoto terrifyingly.
"KYO-SAN! TSUKI! EVERYONE! RUN!" cried Mako.
The group eventually went into a sprint as they tried to flee the scene.
"WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON HERE?!" screamed the human tourist.
"I'll explain later!" cried Mako. "All that matters right now is that we GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!"
"This is terrible...there's no doubt Kyo-kun saw that monster. He's like a sister to me...and once he finds out that Yōkai Academy is a school for monsters, he'll tell my parents...and then...I'll leave the academy...and his parent's lives will be in danger...and MINE!" Tsuki thought.
"Oh god! What the hell's going on here?" panicked her cousin.
"...Keep running!"
"Huh? Who said that?" thought Kyoto.
The group eventually outran the monster and arrived at a junkyard.
"Kyo-kun, are you alright?" Tsuki asked her cousin. "How am I gonna pretend something like that didn't exist?"
"*PANT* *PANT* *PANT*...I get it now..." said Kyoto. "I GET WHAT'S GOIN' ON HERE! YOU CAN'T HIDE IT FROM ME ANYMORE, TSU-CHAN! I FIGURED IT OUT FROM THE START! The truth is...THIS IS ALL A PRANK! After all, it's Halloween, and everyone is entitled to one good scare. SAY IT, TSU-CHAN! SAY IT! SAY THIS IS ALL A PRANK! IT'S ALL BULLSHIT!"
"...WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!" The jaws of Tsuki and her harem dropped in shock at what they heard him say.
"That's right! There's no way in hell that monsters could exist. I mean, that giant frog, that's just a projection. Right?" Kyoto then took the yellow envelope out of his cousin's arms. "I couldn't find the academy on any map, but this man offered to give me directions in exchange for delivering this envelope he gave me. Which reminds me...I heard something IN the envelope when we were running..." He placed the envelope to his ear. "Probably just some walkie talkie or something like that...even though what's inside doesn't seem to be SHAPED that way."
"Run...keep running...she's catching up..."
*STOMP*
The ground suddenly vibrated.
"Run...RUN...NOW!"
"O-O-Okay, Ts-Ts-Tsu-chan..." said Kyoto nervously, "...this little p-p-prank of yours ain't f-f-funny any...any...any—"
*STOMP*
"RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!" Kyoto quickly panicked and fled.
"Wow, he's fleeing with all his might...not very common for a boy..." thought his shocked cousin.
"OH SHIT! IT'S BACK!" cried Kumaru from behind.
*STOMP*
The frog monster had caught up to Tsuki and her harem.
"ACK! WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH US?!" cried Tsuki in terror.
"...I just wanted to say hello," said the feminine voice of the frog.
Kōmura Nazo says:
The frog's a girl? WHEE!
"AND I've been looking for this mirror. YOU kids haven't seen it, HAVE you?"
"Wait a sec! Who the hell's that shadow on its head?" asked Kumaru. "And that voice...it sounded like...THE BUS DRIVER!"
"*BLOW* Sorry if scared you kids," Natsuki said after blowing out some smoke from her cigar.
"*PANT* That *PANT* stupid *PANT* bitch!" Kyoto panted after stopping in his tracks. "After I made my trip just to see Tsu-chan again, THIS is how she treats me?"
*RATTLE*
The envelope started vibrating all of a sudden.
"Ugh, what now?" Kyoto opened the envelope and pulled out what was inside...
"...A...mirror...!" he exclaimed. "Hmm...doesn't SEEM like a prank..."
*SHAKE* *SHAKE* *SHAKE* *SHAKE* *SHAKE* *SHAKE* *SHAKE*
"HEY! STOP THAT!"
*FLASH*
As the light dimmed, Kyoto noticed someone on the mirror: a light green-haired boy with a light purple shirt, light purple short, and dragonfly wings.
"OW! That really hurts!" The boy grabbed his head in dizziness for a few seconds then looked up at the black-haired boy looking down at him in shock and confusion. "Oh, hi there. It's an honor to meet you," he said to Kyoto. "I am the artifact of the mirror: Lillard. And YOU must be my master.
"...EEEEEEEEKKKK!" In a panic, Kyoto dropped the mirror and ran off again. "WHAT'S GOIN' ON?! WHAT'S GOIN' ON?! WHAT'S GOIN' ON?!"
"MASTER, WAIT!" Lillard cried as he carried the mirror and chased after him.
"WAIT!" The teenage human boy suddenly stopped running all of a sudden. "This is another prank!" He turned around and saw Lillard flying right in front of him. "Wait a second! What IS this? Seems pretty well made...maybe its CGI..."
"'CGI'...! Oh, you must be an actual human being, so you probably haven't seen monsters before, HAVE you?"
"'M-M-M-M-Monsters'!" Kyoto became even more confused. "Oh, AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAH! You gotta be kidding me! There ARE no such things as monsters. I ain't a kid no more."
"Oh, you don't believe me!" Lillard suddenly noticed a student walking down the path. "Well, I'll prove it to you! Follow me, master!" He flew up to the student while holding his mirror. "Excuse me, could you please look into this mirror for a few seconds?"
*FLASH*
"'Lillard's Mirror'!" exclaimed Tsuki and her harem in unison.
"Hee hee hee hee hee, that's right. It's a mirror that can revert a monster that looks into it into their true appearance," explained the bud driver. "For that reason, it's been kept in the human world, but someone somehow stole it and brought it here. I brought my pet frog to help me find it because of his acute sense of smell. I didn't really expect it to have a reaction to YOU kids..."
"US?" asked Tsuki. "But we haven't even SEEN any mirror."
"Was there anyone who entrusted an item to you?" asked Natsuki. "If the method of usage is incorrect, Lillard's Mirror can be very dangerous and cause huge misfortune."
"Wait a sec! That envelope! I remember Kyo-kun having some envelope with him..."
"...If what's inside is Lillard's Mirror, then...OH NO! KYO-SAN MIGHT BE IN DANGER...!"
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Meanwhile, Kyoto arrived at the festival after a panicked run. "Oh my god! What the hell did I just see?"
Kōmura Nazo says:
I don't know, I didn't get a chance to see it (or READ it) either. WHEE!
"Master!" Lillard caught up with the human visitor with the mirror in hand.
"S-So you're saying that anyone who looks into the mirror turn into a monster?" asked Kyoto. "But wait a sec...why didn't I change?"
"It only who on those who are really monsters in disguise."
"...Like THIS ugly chick?" Kyoto showed the mirror to Nagisa Kono...
*FLASH*
...turning her into a madslug.
"ACK! SHE'S EVEN MORE UGLY!"
"What about THIS hunky dude?"
*FLASH*
Tomoya Ichinose turned into a merman.
"YIKES! He's smells terrible!"
"And HER..."
*FLASH*
"HIM..."
*FLASH*
(Eight Monsters Later)
"Tee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee! This is so much fun!" laughed Lillard.
"Alright! That's enough!" panted Kyoto; he had just arrived at the festival.
"Why? We're having so much fun!"
"We've had ENOUGH!"
"...Oh contraire...excuse me, would everyone please look into this mirror?"
"NO! STOP!"
*FLASH*
But it was too late; the mirror turned the entire crowded of human-disguised monsters into ACTUAL monsters.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, YOU IDIOT?!" Kyoto screamed.
"Oh, just what you wanted, Master," said the tiny dragonfly-winged boy. "Keep watching...WHILE YOU'RE STILL ALIVE!"
Bite-Size Monster Dictionary:
Artifact Spirit
An artifact that gained a soul after a long period of time. Most of them have special powers related to their artifact. Generally, artifact spirits hold a grudge against those who mistreated them. When they turn evil, they'll destroy every master they encounter.
High above a nearby cliff, someone watched as the festival goers transformed one-by-one. "Excellent...this is the power of Lilith's Mirror...! Because of the potential dangers, this dangerous mirror has been sealed for ages. It was difficult for me to steal but well worth the effort...such a delicate art..."

By the time all the flashes had stopped, the entire campus was filled with monsters.
"Oh god! They really are monsters!" Kyoto whispered. "This school is...is...A MONSTER SCHOOL!"
"That's right! You finally understand," the tiny artifact spirit said from behind her. "And now I have a question to ask you: Why am I telling you the secret of this school? A. Just to be nice. B. No reason. C. To eat your soul at the price of fulfilling your wish."
"Uh...just to be nice?" answered the terrified human boy.
"Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm...the answer...is C!" In that moment, Lillard pointed the mirror in—
"LOOK OUT!"
*BAM*
Lillard was suddenly knocked away by a familiar-looking boy with pink hair.
"Mako-san!" gasped Kyoto.
"Are you okay, Kyo-san?" The pink-haired extended his arm to help him up. "Tsuki and I have been looking for you. Come on Let's—"
*SMACK*
"No!" Kyoto furiously smacked Mako's hand away and helped himself back onto his feet. "Stay away! I know what you are: you a monster just like everybody else. "Aren't you?"
Mako widened his eyes in shock and horror. "Kyo-san...I...I..."
"HEY! HE'S MINE!" shouted Lillard amongst the crowd of monsters.
Just then, all the transformed monsters surrounded the two boys. "How do you like it?" the artifact spirit taunted. "I used my black magic to control all the violent monsters. NOW GIVE ME YOUR SOUL!"
"Dammit! We're surrounded! What do we do?" cried Kyoto.
Mako didn't answer, instead looking out through the crowd; specifically, at Lillard's Monster...
"Kyo-san, do you...do you have the courage to get Lillard's Mirror?"
"Say WHAT? HELL NO! I don't even TRUST you..."
"Then...would you trust Tsuki...? I know I'm a monster underneath, but I trust him as much as YOU would. Let's...work together..."
"OH, SHUT UP, YOU TWO! I'M STARVING! GET THEM, YOU FOOLS!"
"COME ON!" The pink-haired vampire boy grabbed Kyoto's hand and the two boys made a run at...Lillard.
*SNATCH*
Mako grabbed the mirror...
*GRAB*
...while Kyoto grabbed and pinned down Lillard.
"HEY! WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?!" Lillard screamed.
"Alright, Lillard's Mirror, show me my reflection..." Shutting his eyes tightly, Mako held the mirror in front of his face. Then he opened his eyes to see his reflection, but instead his own face, he saw that of a boy with silver hair and blood red serpent eyes. The reflection gave an evil smile, and then...
*FLASH*
"WHA...KILL HIM!"
Obeying Lillard's command, the monsters leapt at Mako to—
"KNOW YOUR PLACE, BITCHES!"
*BAM*
Emerging from out of the dimming light, the REAL Mako gave a huge kick that knocked all the attacking away.
Kōmura Nazo says:
This chapter's climactic battle took 38 words! WHEE!
"HOLY SHIT! A SHINSO VAMPIRE!" cried Lillard. "I see, he used my mirror to unleash his inner monster without the need to remove his Rosario Cross."
"Is THAT...Is THAT what Mako-san looks like...as a vampire?" Kyoto become terrified by Mako walking towards him while twirling his hair strand.
Mako held his hand out at Kyoto. "Hand 'im over!"
"Huh?"
Mako pointed to the artifact spirit, whom Kyoto quickly gave to him.
"Listen, you little shit: the nature of others...is not to be trifled with by the likes of you.
"KYO-SAN!"
*THUD*
Just then, Tsuki arrived and fell down right to her cousin—with Kumaru, Yukinari, Mizo, and Rupert falling right on top of her.
"Tsu-chan!" Kyoto exclaimed in relief. "And his stupid boyfriend!"
"Kyo-san! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! "I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I'm so—"
"IT'S ALRIGHT!" Kyoto interrupted with a smile on his face. "I'm okay thanks to Mako-san." He used his thumb to point to the silver-haired vampire right behind him.
"*GASP* You! B-B-B-B-But how?" Tsuki became astonished that the Mako he knew was gone...and yet the OTHER Mako was still wearing the Rosario Cross around his neck.
"Don't ask ME? Ask the pixie..." said Mako.
"Let me see him," Mizo said as he took the pixie—as well as the mirror.
"Alright, who stole you and brought you here?" Rupert asked the artifact spirit. "And what for?"
"PLEASE DON'T HURT ME! I'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING!"
"I stole it," said a man standing on a wire that hung lights. "And it was a 'present'...for Akashiya Mako."
Tsuki looked up and gasped, "It's...It's YOU..."
It was Ishigami—Hotaru Ishigami.
