Kyoya was going to have to step in where Zakia's request was concerned. I could already tell that much. My brother had asked her to a horror movie, and she hadn't answered come Monday. He passed her a note and she didn't even glance at it.
Kaoru pleaded with me from the other side of the Notoskis to do something. Part of me wondered if he genuinely was attracted to Zakia, or if he was just too prideful to lose to Kyoya. He hadn't been focused on the girls' well being, and as that had been how he'd convinced me to help him, I was feeling used.
I nudged Furukia with my shoulder to ask how she and Zakia were doing. She slipped a scrap of paper onto my seat.
Did you guys give our number to anyone else?
Reassuring her we hadn't, I asked what was up.
Zakia was messaging back and forth with someone, but we dont know who and they asked her to meet at a coffee shop tomorrow. Im worried something might happen to her. She wants to know who got our number and how.
I wasn't sure what to do with that information. Clearly I wasn't meant to tell Kaoru or let Zakia find out Furukia had told me about the situation. This conversation would have to stay between Furukia and me.
U want me 2 spy on her?
Youd do that for me?
If it means u'll stop worrying.
Thanks! Youll have to go right after club tomorrow. Make sure she doesnt get hurt.
It was difficult. keeping Zakia in sight without following too closely and giving myself away. Her pace increased the closer we got to the square, and I could only assume it was because she was angrier by the second.
When the door of the shop banged open from the force of her push, everyone looked up. There were a couple Ouran kids there when I slipped in behind her, but only one stood out, and Zakia was storming towards him.
"What kind of creep finds a way to get my number without asking me?"
Glancing around before he spoke, he calmly answered, "I assure you, Zakia, I've no idea what you're talking about. I'm here to meet Tamaki. Truth be told, I'm surprised you came here, without your brother no less."
"Then who was texting me on Saturday?" she continued to demand answers. It was quickly becoming apparent Kyoya had no idea what she was referring to from the expression on his face.
"Please believe me, Zakia. I don't know your phone number. I've not been privy to that information. You can look through my phone if you like. Further than that, I can't help you."
"Where's Tamaki then? Shouldn't he be here by now?"
"He normally takes Haruhi home so he doesn't have to take the bus."
"Who do those messages sound like then?" she shouted as she threw her phone at him.
"Zakia, I'm going to have to insist you leave if this behavior keeps up. You're disrupting the other guests here, and throwing things could hurt someone," Kyoya kept that cool tone, pushing his glasses up as he stood. "Would you rather continue this discussion outside after I look at what has upset you?"
"No! Furukia was right, you're a bad person."
"Pardon me?"
"If I go outside someone is going to knock me out and put me in a van, right? Well I'm not that stupid!"
Kyoya stood up sharply, and I scrambled to get out of sight, falling through the door to the patio seating on the side of the building.
"Let go of me! Somebody help!"
"Zakia, please stop this nonsense and tell me plainly what is going on."
"I stuck up for you! You're just as bad as everyone kept saying."
Kyoya had grabbed Zakia's arm and dragged her outside, but she was struggling against his grip. Her wrist turned a little bit, and just like that, he lost his hold. Zakia kicked at the back of his knee and ran back towards the school.
Shaking his head, Kyoya started going through the phone she had left behind. As he read the messages, his forehead creased. He pulled out his own phone to compare the numbers. He must have found a match, because he turned pale, then his expression darkened.
"Hitachiin," he called, his voice formidable.
"Vice Pres, how did you know I was here? Are you okay?"
"Did you give the Notoskis' phone number to anyone, and I mean anyone?"
"No. If it really wasn't you, then who?"
"Did you dispose of their number carelessly? In the club's trash perhaps?"
"I don't think so, but I can't be sure."
"Do you know if either of them gave their phone number to anyone else?"
I thought really hard about the twins' first couple of days at school. "I think I remember President saying he needed it for club matters? I don't know if either of them actually gave it to him or not."
"I'm going to kill him," he growled.
"Where is the President, anyways?"
"He won't be coming. Go home, Hitachiin."
"But Zakia..."
"I'll have to make amends with her after I've dealt with Tamaki."
"Vice Pres, you should know...the messages themselves made her happy. If they are things you would actually say to her, she's yours. Kaoru isn't going about it right."
"What makes you think I want her?"
"You said this was personal. You're way more upset than you would be were it anyone else angry with you. The way you look at her."
"And after something like today, what makes you think she'll talk to me again? She said I'm a bad person."
"I'll get a good word put in for you. Can't guarantee it'll help, but it might make her willing to hear you out."
"Why would you do that? Don't you want your brother to be happy?"
"He needs to figure out what he wants on his own first. His infatuation isn't healthy. Besides, it's not just about his happiness. Zakia deserves to be happy too, and I don't think my brother can give her what she's looking for."
"When did you grow up so much, Hikaru?"
I didn't answer as I called for a ride home. Kyoya was already gone when Kaoru finally told me the driver was on the way. I called Furukia's house to let her know what was going on.
"Notoski residence, who is this?"
"Hikaru Hitachiin. I was hoping I could speak to Furukia?"
"The twins haven't returned from school yet. Can I take a message?"
"Just let her know I called please."
"Of course. Have a good evening."
"Good night."
When I got home myself, Kaoru was already in our bed. I lay down next to him and waited for our phone to ring. I fell asleep without Furukia calling back.
