Chapter 10
"Where have you been? I've been trying to get ahold of you for hours." Elijah was at the ready as soon as Klaus walked in, hands in his well pressed suit as per the usual when he was serious.
"Calm down brother. All is well." He laughed as he clapped him lightly on the back.
"We had a deal Niklaus, you stay put and I try and find a witch to figure out how to get your memories back."
"And did you dear brother?" He paused as he saw the slight grim press to his lips indicating he hadn't. "Am I to be a recluse until then?" He said sarcastically.
"Niklaus-"
"I met someone tonight." He smiled entranced as he remembered every detail about her.
"You're changing the subject." Elijah said disapprovingly.
"No, I'm in a good mood and I'm choosing not to let your always too serious mood ruin it."
Elijah stopped at the statement. It had been centuries since he saw his brother happy, truly happy. Guilt weighed heavy on him as he sighed. He never could say no to his brother. He made it his sole purpose since the beginning to protect him and show him that he didn't need to make the earth a living hell for everyone on it in retaliation of their father's poor treatment of his bastard son. Nikalus was right. Him losing his memories, the message from the ancestors, it was all looking like a blessing at this point and he couldn't take anymore happiness from his brother.
"You're right. Life is too short to be so serious." Elijah sighed and smiled as he lightened up. "Well who is this mysterious woman that has you so entranced?" He secretly hoped he hadn't been taking advantage of a poor human girl as an old habit.
"I don't know actually. I never got her name."
Elijah's eyebrow cocked up in question.
"She said she's leaving it up to fate. Intriguing, isn't she?" He smirked seeing the confusion on Elijah's face.
"I'd say so, brother."
Fate. Elijah thought. Fate seemed to be the theme lately. Intriguing indeed.
"Breakfast Miss Elena!" Detra, the compound's handmaid voice rang out cheerfully as she pushed open the blinds.
"Really Detra, you can tell Marcel I don't need you to wait on me hand and foot. I'm a grown adult."
"What have I told you Miss Elena, I enjoy what I do. Marcel gave me a place and a will, might I add, to live when I turned. Stop feeling guilty, it's my pleasure really." Detra was an irish red headed vampire with freckles dotted across her face, Elena guessed she had to have been turned at least 200 years ago because she had an old world feel to her. It was always comforting to be around.
"If that ever changes, let me know I'll make sure Marcel doesn't give you any grief."
"Very well." She smiled kindly as she set her breakfast tray on the table next to the bed.
Elena gulped down the orange juice and cranberry scones, showered and dressed in record time before skipping down the steps to see what was on the schedule for the day. As the days ticked by since she came to New Orleans she quickly realized Vincent or Marcel always had something planned for her.
The first person she came across was Vincent. She swiped a flower from the vase on the entry way table and put it in his front pocket.
"Good morning." She kissed him on the cheek.
"Morning Elena." Vincent smiled and picked the flower out. "Do you know the magical meaning of forget-me-nots?"
"Quizzes already." She dramatically sighed before thinking back to the day they studied flowers in magic. "Ummm, I know it symbolizes keeping a loved one's memory alive…"
"And?"
"Oh it's used in memory spells!"
"Good girl." He smiled to himself. Vincent had truly enjoyed spending his time teaching Elena about magic. What the purpose was, he wasn't sure yet but he could feel the intuitive pull to teach it to her nonetheless.
"Anything on the itinerary today?"
"Not that I know of, I think Lucy said she was stopping over soon though. Marcel and I have a meeting today with an old friend so we won't be around til later tonight."
"Did I hear my name?"
"Speak of the devil." Vincent smirked as Lucy walked in, coffee in hand.
"Vincent was just telling me that him and Marcel are going to be gone all day." Elena smirked as she wiggled her eye brows up and down.
"Girls day!" She danced her way over to the chair giggling.
"And with that, I'm out!" Vincent laughed. "Marcel is already out but I'll let him know ya'll will be together."
"Have fun!" Elena yelled and watched him close the front door behind him before speaking again. "I met someone last night." She immediately spat out excitedly.
"Girl, spill. Why didn't you text me last night. You waited entirely too long to tell me this." Lucy leaned in.
"I wanted it to sink in a little first. Plus I didn't want Marcel listening in. I love him but he is all up in business sometimes."
"You know he's doing it to protect you." Lucy said more serious.
"Yeah I know." Elena said as she rolled her eyes. She knew they were protective of her because no one could know she was a traveler and in all honesty sometimes it scared her she had no memories, she could run into anyone at any time who did remember her from before.
"Well? Who is he?"
"I don't know." Elena shrugged
"What do you mean you don't know."
"I meaann I didn't get his name." She laughed at how silly it sounded. Lucy's mouth hung open in confusion waiting for her to continue.
"Why?"
"I don't know…maybe it was the alcohol but I can't describe it. I was so drawn to him. Even his touch...my skin buzzed from it." Elena paused remembering how his touch felt on her skin. "I don't know it just felt like fate so I wanted to test it."
"Testing fate now are we?"
"Luce come on. You know just as well as I do that if it's fate it will come to be. If the draw I felt was real then I'll find him again, and if it was just to booze….well it'll just be a memory."
"Well I hope fate brings him to you again."
"Me too." Elena whispered.
"So what should we do today?" Lucy got up and grabbed her coffee.
"Book shop?" Elena was in need of a new book to escape into.
"I'm down for that. I do have an appointment to go to after that but after that we should meet back up for dinner and drinks!"
"Yes please." Elena smiled as she linked her arm into Lucy's.
