A/N: Hello!

Finally, I came up with another one-shot for them, this time a longer one. We had heavy rains for the past three to four days. That's why we had more holidays than usual. I used this time to write!

This shot has nearly the same theme as the previous shot but with an entirely different course. This scene is in my headcanons for Kane and Salima.

Setting: Twelve years post the G-Revolution season.
Summary: It's just one week since he officially became a cardio-thoracic surgeon, but his jobs and requirements kept him occupied. He barely gets a wink of sleep. However, his wife understands him and is awake one night. Their comforting talks and sweet gestures are the only solutions to keep their love alive.

Overnight love, talks, and comforting touches ~

The sky of Australia's capital suffused with grey clouds. It was past one in the morning, and it's been busy since the night. A surgeon in his mid to late twenties stared at the night sky. The vehicles before him didn't move for fifteen minutes. He got caught in traffic after performing an overnight lung surgery. He hadn't taken sufficient rest for a whole week as surgical gloves and scalpels engrossed his mind. However, all his cases were successful since he officially became a surgeon a week ago.

Instead of bemusing about the traffic, he gazed at the sky. Mild thunderstorms were evident. The music in the black BMV whispered gently into his ears, and he was on the verge of falling into a slumber, yet his brain maintained his wakefulness after getting up quickly.

'Don't sleep off, Yamashita. We are in traffic.'

The traffic cleared in another ten minutes. The surgeon was driving the car peacefully.

He's married, and his wife is waiting for him at home. She was trying to connect to his number, but he connected to the speaker since he used BlueTooth for music.

"Sal?"

"Anata, where are you?"

"I'm driving, sweetie. I hope you understand."

"Oh, I am sorry, but there might be heavy rains and thunderstorms early in the morning, according to the weather forecast. Hence try to make it fast."

"Alright, fine. I'm on the way. Well, what are you doing now?"

"I am arranging for the dinner."

"Mm… did you have yours?"

"Yeah, I did. I am about to heat your share. I might disconnect the appliances because I'm scared of thunderstorms."

"No worries, sweetheart, I'll come immediately."

"Alright then."

She disconnected the call, and Kane increased the speed. 'I gotta make it fast for her.'

-x-

"Welcome home," Salima greeted him with a sweet beam. Kane gently smiled before handing over his stuff to her. He dropped himself into the safe before he could fasten one button from his shirt. The cozy yellow light illuminated the kitchen with one in their bedroom, with its door open.

"I suppose it was a very hectic day," Salima remarked. Kane could hear her arranging some vessels.

"Yeah, it was. Well, did you switch on the geyser?"

"Yup. Are you going with a shower or the tub?"

"Shower."

"Hmm."

Kane was back in half an hour after a relaxing shower. He could smell the aroma from the kitchen. The table had the dinner arranged for him.

"Eat up fast before it turns cold." He could hear his wife's voice from their bedroom.

She was preparing the bedsheets since she'd put the old ones for the wash.

Kane started to eat and finished them in no time. All thanks to the mini-fasting during the surgery. Later, he talked to his assistant doctor for further appointments the following week. He heard the soft clinking noise of the vessels from the kitchen with a gush of water running from the tap. He strolled off to see his wife washing the utensils. Her back profile was beautiful. Her beautiful ponytail covered the back column, gently tapering around the waist level, and the remaining red streaks hung behind her ears. Blackish-navy t-shirt concealed her with a pair of black-skinny shorts. She wore an apron. Kane tied his arms and gently rested his back.

"Didn't you sleep yet?" Salima was surprised.

"I should ask the same question to you as well, sweetheart," Kane mused.

Salima paused her work and turned back after closing the tap, "Meaning?" she smirked, and he came close to her.

"I can clean these for you. You can take some rest."

Salima's glances were of innocence, "Honey, you've been working for a whole week. You barely got a wink of sleep. Take rest," She gently held his arms. "Look how tired you are."

"I will help you, sweetheart," his voice was low-pitched yet genuine. "You've stayed awake for me as well. You've got to take care of the house during my late-night shifts."

Salima glanced down and said, "You're a chief doctor, and it's been just a week since you officially became a surgeon. It was a long path for you to reach this position. I know you were in FRACS for four years. And you finished that only three months after our marriage."

Kane gently simpered and remarked, "That has nothing to do with these chores. You are my wife. I need to contribute to these as well."

Salima couldn't talk back.

"Well, I have to heel so much to reach the shelves. Can you place these vessels there?"

"Sure."

Kane was tall enough and didn't have to heel an inch. Salima couldn't stop wondering at their height difference. Genetically, she was supposed to be shorter. She did some stretches to increase her height during her teens.

She had feelings for him and hated to look short while standing next to him, but he surprisingly grew taller when she met him as a grown-up adult.

While Kane was about to go to the bedroom, Salima said, "Well, I wish I was taller. I look too short for you."

Kane turned back and held her close, "Nah, you are of perfect height. I grew too tall. But aren't you tall enough to reach my heart? What else do you want?" Kane slowed on the last sentences.

Salima was touched when she found herself on his chest. She felt she is of perfect height after a long time.

None apart from Kane could convince her. Not even she could do it.

She gently clenched his shirt and clung to him.

"Thanks, Honey. I never thought of this."

Kane's collarbones felt some soft fingers caressing.

"It's too late. Let's go to bed." Kane gently parted from her. Salima nodded and followed Kane to the room. While preparing the beds, Salima broke the awkward silence, "Well, I just thought of asking this. We never got to go on a honeymoon since you were in FRACS. Can we go somewhere? Or do you have any emergency cases coming up? I miss our traveling days."

"Good timing, I was thinking about it. We need to go somewhere. But since we went on a trip after our engagement, I didn't ask for a holiday. It would've disrupted my course."

"Hmm, I understand."

They were lying on the bed after a couple of minutes. "Where would you love to go?" Kane asked her.

"I would love a hill station, even if it's somewhere in Australia."

"We explored a lot of Australia on our last trip. We'll try somewhere else." Kane remarked.

"Well then, we need some time to discuss this."

Salima sighed and turned to his side.

"I can't imagine how you studied for eleven years to become a surgeon. It's been a long journey for you."

"More of a journey with practice, to be precise," Kane lazily replied. His voice was quiet.

"I've had feelings for you long, and during these eleven years, I wondered if we could be together. And for sure, I knew that you would want to focus more on your career."

"Because if I ever confessed my feelings for you back then, I would've been distracted. And teenage love wouldn't last long in my case. We wouldn't have ended up with each other. We were better as friends. And friendship needs to be strong if it has to evolve into love. I want us to understand the worth of our relationship when we are separated. We have to face the struggle to finally be with each other till the end of our life. Otherwise, we wouldn't have valued our bond as much as we do now."

Salima chuckled and agreed with him. He already said this to her when they confessed their feelings for the first time - a few weeks before they engaged.

"The time to open up about our feelings do matter, Salima. We considered it, and that's why we are by each other today."

"I know you very well, Kane. And you chose the right path for both of us. That's why I've always loved you."

"I knew we had some mild tension in our teens before we parted ways. I felt I have a special place for you in my heart - during my undergraduate, residency, and in FRACS, more importantly. I am glad I achieved my dreams and finally be with you."

"You've grown in the desired way."

They were about to fall into a deep slumber, but Kane remembered to switch off the lamps.

"Honey, can I come close to you?"

"Sure."

Salima gently crawled to his side and dug herself into his chest. He gently enclosed her in his arms.

He gently caressed her smooth strands and pecked her forehead. She gently kissed his cheeks.

"Let's wake up late in the morning. It's Sunday anyways." Salima said.

"Sure, I don't mind sleeping the whole day."

"Then I'll do the same. Tomorrow, I will cling to you."

"Alright, fine."

They both were in deep slumber a few minutes later. The blankets were messily covering them, and the clouds roared wildly. But, their sleep was smooth in the air-conditioned room.

A/N: Yes, I'm done! I hope this wasn't bad. It was my long-time dream to write a shot like this for my OTP.

Thanks for reading!
