Chapter 2
Haley stepped into the shower, and let the hot water flow freely over her body for much too long . She always felt refreshed and relaxed after a nice, long shower. And spending the entire day trying to plan a wedding with her fiancé's zany mother, left a lot of extra tension to be washed away.
Over an hour later she emerged from her room, ready for whatever it was Brooke had planned.
"So where are we going?" Haley asked.
Brooke looked Haley up and down disapprovingly. "Change." She said simply.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?"
"You don't seriously want me to answer that question, do you?"
"I thought you liked my style?"
"I did. Until you started dating that dreary lawyer. Haley, you're wearing a khaki skirt. No one wears khaki. At least no one under forty"
"Where are we going?"
"Not to the country club with that pretentious bitch your fiancé calls a mother."
"I get it Brooke, but I can't dress right if I don't know where we're going."
"The play boy mansion," Brooke said in a voice barely above a whisper.
"The what? No way, Brooke. If Steven ever found out I went there he would…"
"You've already been there, Haley. Or did you forget? Because I could easily remind you." Brooke teased.
"I didn't forget, which is why I know I shouldn't be going now."
"You told me to distract you. Can you honestly think of a bigger distraction from your boring fiancé and his mother than Hugh and his playmates?"
"No," Haley said quietly.
"That's what I thought. There's a huge party tonight, and thanks to *me* we're invited."
"Just because you did one layout in Playboy you think you're all that."
"They don't put just anyone in Playboy," Brooke defended.
"I'm sure that's what they tell all the young college girls knocking on there door."
"Very funny. And don't forget to take that ring off your finger."
"I'm not taking my ring off."
"You can't possibly expect to have a good time with that obnoxious boy's ring wrapped around your finger."
"He's not obnoxious." Haley defended, but took her ring off anyway and set it on the counter.
"For a rich dude, he sure as hell could have gotten you a bigger rock."
"Brooke."
"Haley."
"I need a drink," Haley said walking back into her room.
"I'll make you one. And don't come out of that room in anything you've ever worn to meet Steven or anyone remotely connected to him."
"Fine!" Haley yelled.
----
Two hours, a few drinks, and several outfits later, Brooke and Haley were entering the gates of the Playboy Mansion. It was just how Haley remembered - half-naked girls walking around several hundreds of men, most of them desperate and unattractive.
"Cheer up, Hales. You know how much you love this place."
"Used to love this place. I haven't been here since…"
"You started dating that doorknob of a boyfriend. I don't know why I let you out of the house with him. I knew he was a dud the first time I saw him."
"He's not a dud."
"He is, and you know it. But for tonight, he doesn't exist. Now let's go mingle."
Brooke grabbed Haley's hand and the two girls made their way through the crowd, stopping every so often to say a quick hello to some of the more attractive bachelors.
"Where's the bar?" Haley questioned.
"Right here. We'll have two Jungle Janes," Brooke instructed the bartender.
"So this is your big distraction. I'm kind of bored," Haley said unimpressed.
"Boo-hoo, Hales. You know that you're going to have fun, you just don't want to admit it to yourself. Give it half an hour and you'll be thanking me profusely."
"Doubt that," Haley said taking her drink from the bartender and making her way out to the patio. Brooke followed. "Do you still come here?" Haley questioned.
"Nope. My partner in crime decided to go all monotonous on me, so I've been forced to find other recreational activities."
"You couldn't handle the playmates on your own?"
"No one could handle the playmates on their own." Both girls laughed. "Oh my god, Haley." Brooke said tapping her friend rapidly on her arm.
"What?"
"Look. Right there." Brooke pointed across the room to a tall, dark haired guy. "That's Nathan Scott."
"Nathan who?" Haley questioned completely unaware of the existence of this person Brooke seemed so highly fascinated with.
"And he's looking over here. Haley that is totally the distraction you need."
"I don't even know who he is."
"You don't know Nathan Scott?" Brooke looked at Haley as if she had just committed a felony.
"Sorry. No." Haley responded, taking another drink.
"He's just the most gorgeous guy in all of sports entertainment."
"Since when do you find sports entertaining?"
"Since they started putting hotties like Nathan Scott on the court. You so owe me."
"For what?"
"Nathan Scott. Are you even listening to me?"
"You're rambling Brooke. You know I never listen when you ramble."
"You better listen. Now go talk to him."
"Are you nuts? I'm not going to talk to him."
"Why not?" Brooke looked over her shoulder again. "He's looking. Haley, go."
"No."
"Haley."
"You're obviously into him. You go."
"I'm suppose to be finding you a distraction. And Nathan Scott is the most supreme distraction you will ever find." Brooke looked back again, but he was gone. She scanned the area quickly.
"I'm not going over there." Haley insisted.
Brooke smiled. "You don't have to. He's coming to you."
"Or you."
"No, its definitely you. Now play nice." Brooke patted Haley lightly on the cheek and then left her standing alone. Before Haley had a chance to leave, Nathan was there.
"Hey." Haley immediately noticed the cocky smirk on his face. She didn't like it.
"Hello." She said uninterestingly, trying to get the point across.
"I'm Nathan Scott."
"I need another drink." Haley walked off.
Nathan stood there in utter disbelief. He never got blown off by girls, and he wasn't about to start now.
"I'll have a Slow Comfortable Screw," Haley ordered.
"My house is only a few minutes away." Nathan said as he squeezed in next to Haley. Haley rolled her eyes. "Not very friendly, are we?"
"Depends on the company, I guess."
"And I'm not good company?" He looked offended.
"You're excellent company, Mr. Scott."
"Feisty. I like that." The bartender handed Haley her drink, and she turned to leave once again. Nathan grabbed her free hand. "You don't even know me."
"I know I don't like you." She said flatly.
"And why's that?"
Haley took a long drink. "Do you really want to know?"
"Probably not."
"Didn't think so. Now, if you'll just let go of my hand, I need to find my friend."
"That one?" Nathan questioned as he pointed to Brooke who was making out with some guy against the wall. Haley nodded. "I think she's a little preoccupied."
"I'd still like for you to let go of my hand."
"If you promise not to run in the other direction."
"I can't do that."
"Then I can't let go."
"Nathan."
"At least you remembered my name," He paused realizing he didn't know her's. "And your name is?"
"Its about time you asked. You've been harassing me for the last ten minutes and you don't have any clue as to who I am."
"Is that why you don't like me? Because I didn't ask your name?"
"One of many reasons."
"So are you going to tell me." Haley took another drink. "I promise I'm not the ass I come off to be."
"At least you realize you're an ass, which is more than I can say for most of the people here."
"Still not going to tell me your name?"
"Buy me another drink and I'll think about it."
"Slow Comfortable Screw right?" He asked, the smirk reappearing on his face.
"Just buy me the drink." They walked back to the bar, still holding hands.
"So are you going to tell me your name now?" Nathan questioned as Haley took a swig of the drink he had just purchased her.
"Are you a stalker?" She questioned. Nathan arched his eyebrows in confusion.
"Are you serious?"
"You look like the stalker type."
"I'm not a stalker. If anything, people stalk me."
"And why is that?"
"Why do you keep avoiding the question?"
"And what question is that?"
"There you go again."
"So have you ever been stalked?"
"Tell me your name."
"Why are you so curious all of a sudden? It didn't seem to bother you the first ten minutes you were annoying me."
"Well it does now."
"Not used to not getting what you want, Nathan?"
"I just don't see why you're making this so complicated."
"Haley." She said simply.
"Haley what?"
"Just Haley," she said with a smile. "So have you ever been stalked?"
"I have."
"And why is that?"
"Do you really have to ask? I mean, come on."
"You are such an arrogant ass."
"I know, but it works for me."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that," Haley said and then finished her drink.
"Another?" Nathan questioned.
"Only if you drink with me."
"Now, that's a request I can handle." Nathan ordered two more drinks. "Now, come with me."
"I don't think so. Let's not forget I'm the one who doesn't want to be here."
"Is that so?" Nathan asked with a smirk firmly planted on his face.
"You really shouldn't do that."
"Makes it impossible for you to resist me, doesn't it?"
"Actually, it makes it difficult for me to control my upchuck reflex." Nathan couldn't help but laugh. He knew it was a complete blow to him, but she looked so serious when she said it. "At least you have a sense of humor," Haley responded.
"Come with me."
"I can't."
"We're just going back there," he said pointing to a couch in the back of the room.
"Oh." Haley said somewhat embarrassed. Nathan didn't say anything, but then again he didn't have to. The cocky smirk on his face said it all. He lead her through the large crowd of people to the sofa waiting for them. "So do you do this often?"
"Do what?"
"Take unwilling girls hostage and force them to spend time with you."
"No. The girls are always willing."
"Always?"
"Always."
"Then you picked the wrong girl."
"Maybe, but I'm always up for a challenge."
"Even ones that you're guaranteed to lose."
"There's no such thing as a guaranteed loss."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," Haley said taking another drink as thoughts of her future marriage drifted into her mind.
"Something wrong?" Nathan questioned as he noticed the sudden change in the girl sitting next to him.
"Besides the fact that I'm stuck here with you, I'm fine."
"You know I don't really think you mind being stuck with me."
"Of course you don't."
"If I make you that miserable, then just leave," Nathan said letting go of her hand. Haley didn't move. Her head was telling her to, but her body just wouldn't listen. "Don't move to quick now."
Haley blinked, and when she opened her eyes, the man staring at her looked different. And by different, she meant attractive. His dark hair and light eyes complemented each other so well, and the strength of his chin. It was completely the opposite of Steven. His light hair and light brown eyes weren't in the least bit as captivating as the ones she was looking into now. Maybe it was the alcohol or maybe it was something else, but the last thing she wanted to do now was leave.
Nathan watched in confusion the girl next to him. He hadn't expected her to leave, because, well, they never did. But he hadn't been expecting her to just sit there either. She was a smart ass, she was suppose to have a comeback for him. But she didn't. She just sat there. His eyes cascaded down her body, and then back up. That's when he saw it. There was a yearning in her eyes, and he was positive it was for him. That was just the push he needed to do what he had been wanting since the moment he saw her.
Haley felt his body moving closer, and more importantly she felt the heat. Not of his body, but of hers. His lips came crashing on top of hers, and within seconds his tongue was exploring her mouth, and she couldn't help but respond. A few minutes later she was in his lap, her legs wrapped tightly around him. She leaned into his kiss, and moaned lightly as his hand moved further up her shirt. Nothing satisfied her, she wanted more of him. She needed to be closer to him, as close as she could possibly get.
"Let's go," Haley whispered into his ear after she was finally able to remove her lips from his. Nathan leaned back to look at the girl, and make sure she was certain. It wasn't something he would normally do, but tonight he did. He studied her face. Her lips were swollen from their contact with his, her face was flushed, her eyes were full of passion, and she was certain. Nathan untangled her legs from around him, took her hand, and led her out of the estate without so much as a another word.
Haley stepped into the shower, and let the hot water flow freely over her body for much too long . She always felt refreshed and relaxed after a nice, long shower. And spending the entire day trying to plan a wedding with her fiancé's zany mother, left a lot of extra tension to be washed away.
