Chapter 6

"There he is," Brooke said pointing to a trim, sandy-haired guy standing in front of the theater, hands planted firmly in his pockets, as they walked across the parking lot.

"He's cute."

"I know. And he's not an ass."

"You haven't known him twenty-four hours, I'm sure he is. They all are."

"Way to go, Haley. Just kill my optimism."

"Sorry."

Lucas noticed Brooke approaching and smiled.

"Brooke," he said as he greeted her with a light hug.

"Lucas, this is Haley," she said introducing the two. The exchanged hellos. "Is your brother here?"

"Yeah, he's inside. He's not the most patient guy in the world."

'Great. I get the jerk,' Haley thought as they entered the theater.

Lucas, Brooke, and Haley were standing in the middle of the lobby while Lucas scanned the place for his brother, when Haley heard a somewhat familiar voice.

"Luke, I didn't know what the girls wanted, so I just didn't get them anything." Haley turned around and sure enough, she knew the man standing behind her. Before Haley could say anything, Brooke did.

"You're Nathan Scott's brother?" Brooke questioned Lucas.

"See, bro, I told you I could help you get the ladies."

"Ass," Haley mumbled under her breath.

It was then that Nathan recognized Haley.

"You." He stated in a very unpleasant tone.

"You two know each other?" Lucas asked confused.

"More than you know," Brooke whispered.

"What are you doing here?"

"Tagging along with my best friend, because her date's brother can't find willing females on his own."

"Funny, I thought that's what you were last night."

"You can be such a bastard."

"Me? You're the one who left."

"Your point?"

"I'm outta here. You better hope she's not as big of a bitch as her friend," Nathan told Lucas before exiting the theater. Haley followed behind him.

"What was that about?" Lucas asked still completely confused.

"I'll tell you after the movie," Brooke said slipping her hand into Lucas'

Nathan was walking quickly through the parking lot when Haley fell into step with him. He ignored her.

"I'm not going away."

"I thought that's what this morning was."

"I had to be somewhere."

"I don't care."

"But I think you do."

Nathan stopped, and turned to her. "You don't know what I think. You don't know me."

"I know you're pissed."

"Anyone with eyes can see that I'm fucking pissed."

"But I know why."

"Do you?"

"You're pissed because you weren't in control."

"Whatever," he said and starting walking away. Haley grabbed him.

"Admit it. You hate that I called the shots. That I could leave before you could tell me to get out, or that I left at all. And now you have to face it."

"I don't have to do anything."

"If you say so," Haley said and turned to leave herself.

Nathan sighed in frustration before going after her.

"Why do you do that?"

"What?"

"That. You don't ever answer a question, or finish anything. You just let it dangle in the air."

"You don't like it do you?"

"Again. Can you not just make a statement without asking a question. Its not that fucking hard, Haley."

"You remembered my name."

"That's not answering the question." Haley could hear the aggravation growing in his voice.

"It was a statement."

"That doesn't mean anything." He yelled.

Haley bit her lip, as she realized that it did mean something to her that he remembered her name. It shouldn't. He was just a one night stand, but it did.

"So that's it? You don't have anything else to say?"

She studied his face. This really bothered him. He wasn't used to not getting what he wanted when he wanted it. In a way she enjoyed it. She hated guys like him. The ones who thought that just because they had a certain name, everyone was suppose to drop at their feet. She had met so many people like him, and it was a bit empowering to know that she had been the one to turn the tables on him.

While she was relishing in the discomfort that she had been able to bring him, he had been watching her as well. He could see the wheels turning in her head, and realized she was enjoying this. She enjoyed watching him suffer.

"You're sick." He stated.

"Excuse me?" She questioned, his statement bringing her back to the situation.

"I know what you're doing."

"And what is that, Nathan?"

"You're enjoying this."

"And what's so wrong with that? Don't tell me you've never done the same."

"That's not the point."

"Yes it is. I switched the tables on you, and you can't handle it."

"You know what, we're done. I don't need this."

"Just walk away then, that's not going to make you forget. You're still going to think about me, and its still going to bother you. You can go screw ten random girls, and kick them all out, but I'm the only one you're going to remember. Because I'm the only one that got under your skin."

A cocky grin spread across Nathan's face as he turned around to face her. "You're not even talking about me anymore," he said walking back to her. "This is about you. I got under your skin, and you hate it."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"No? Why did you come out here then?" He stepped closer to her, dangerously closer. "I can't believe I didn't realize sooner."

Haley felt his hot breath against her skin, and remembered how amazing it felt to be touched by him.

"You're so full of yourself."

"Like I said before, it works for me." Haley opened her mouth to object, but Nathan covered it with his hand. "Before you start your protest, let me remind you that you did sleep with me last night." The smirk reappeared on his face as he said so. " I'll say it again, it works for me." Nathan slowly removed his hand, and Haley just stood there, unsure of what to do next.

Nathan watched with pleasure as a slight blush grew on her cheeks. She bit her lip nervously, but she never took her eyes off of him.

"Think what you want, Nathan Scott. Last night was nothing more than sex between two strangers."

"Was it?"

Haley's nod was interrupted by Nathan's lips crashing on top of hers. Haley couldn't help but react. She didn't want to. Her brain was telling her not to, but it didn't matter. Aside from last night, she couldn't remember the last time she had been kissed like that. There was so much passion in his kiss and strength in his embrace. She could feel the solidness of his body against hers. And once again she found herself not being able to get enough of him. He was right there, but she still wanted so much more. She couldn't explain it, but the feeling was there.
