Chapter 10

"Who was that?" Nathan questioned, obvious frustration in his voice.

Haley sighed, the last thing she wanted was to get into Steven with Nathan. Steven wasn't any of Nathan's business. In fact, Nathan wasn't even supposed to be there. She wasn't supposed to be with him and she definitely wasn't supposed to want him to be there. She'd had her one night of freedom and now she had to stop, no matter how much she felt like dragging him into her bedroom at the moment. She felt the heat start to rise in her body like it had the first time she had kissed her. Once again, all coherent thoughts were pushed from her mind.

Haley looked seductively at Nathan before walking to him. Her hands moved up his chest slowly and came to a stop around his neck. Her face only inches away from his.

Brooke and Lucas watched the display before them. Both were confused, but for two entirely different reasons.

Brooke was happy to see someone evoke anything other than anger and distraught in her best friend. But it worried her that despite her obvious attraction to Nathan, she was still set on marrying Steven.

Lucas hadn't lived with his brother in a few years, but he knew this wasn't his usual behavior with the opposite sex. Which usually would have given him comfort, but Haley wasn't available. And if there was one thing Nathan Scott did not handle well, it was rejection.

Nathan's body immediately responded to Haley's touch. The soft smell of strawberries and sex overtook his senses. It took every fiber in his body not to respond to her advances the way he so desperately wanted to.

"Who was that?" He asked again. His voice was much more deep and husky than he had intended.

Haley brought Nathan's head down to meat her. Their lips brushing only lightly against one another's.

"Haley," Nathan whispered. She just stood watching him, waiting for his next move. "Who was he?" Nathan pushed. Haley shook her head, causing the rage Nathan had so desperately tried to control to surface.

His lust filled eyes became infuriated. "Fine," he spat, removing her arms from his neck and backing away from the warm contact of her body.

Haley stood in shock and a bit of fear as Nathan got his keys and stormed silently out of the apartment. She looked at Brooke and Lucas. Brooke's expression matched the shock of Haley's.

Lucas, however, wasn't surprised. You could only push Nathan so far and then he exploded. And Haley definitely knew how to push him. In all actuality, Lucas was relieved. He may have stormed out, but dealing with a silent Nathan was much easier than being subjected to his angry wrath.

Haley's shock wore off and tears began to fall. Brooke gave Luke a worried expression before making her way to the center of the room where Haley stood. She wrapped her best friend comfortingly in her arms as she cried.

Lucas gave Brooke a silent good-bye and exited the apartment, though unsure of how he was to get home. He was relieved to find Nathan's truck still in the parking lot. He viewed his brother from a distance. His hands firmly planted on the steering wheel and his head thrown back in frustration. Lucas joined his brother and without a word Nathan drove away.
