A.N: Well, I wrote this last night after I saw the episode where Pete asks Sam to marry him and well I don't really want it to happen, but this is how I think the conversation between Sam and Jack should go when she tells him, so um tell me what you think.

Every Me, Every You

"I said yes. I just thought I'd tell you before someone else does"

"You're marrying Pete?"

"Yep"

"Congratulations Carter" Jack said putting on a fake smile and pulling Carter into an uncharacteristic hug. His body was warm she thought, he was strong, she wondered what it would be like to snuggle into him every night… But no. She was marrying Pete.

Jack pulled away "So…"

"So"

"Um, yeah" The situation was awkward, more awkward than it should've been between two friends when one of them was getting married. They both knew why it was awkward and they both knew it could never work, that's why neither of them mentioned it. "I gotta get going now… you know… work to do. Yeah" Sam Carter walked out of Jack's office and wondered if maybe things could've turned out differently.

"Carter"

"Hi sir"

"You're here late. Shouldn't you be with Pete" he said the name with a certain venom.

"No, he's out of town this weekend, visiting family"

"Oh" A silence developed between them and it was Jack who eventually broke it. "Look Sam, there's something I've wanted to tell you, for a long, long time. I like you Sam. I mean, I like you more than I should. I know right now's not really the opportune time. You're getting married in a few weeks, I'm your commanding officer. I know that. I don't expect you to drop everything and come running to me. I know this doesn't change anything, but I guess I just needed you to know."

"Jack, I've always known. If you'd have done something earlier, maybe I wouldn't be marrying Pete, but you're right, I am getting married in a few weeks to a wonderful man, and this doesn't change anything, but…" she thought carefully about her next words "I want you to know. I love you too"

Sam made her way across her lab to Jack, she placed a soft kiss on his lips that lingered a little longer than was friendly before pulling away "You know Jack, every version of me we've ever encountered has been in love with you. and every version of you we've encountered has been in love with me, but something always goes wrong, right?" Sam grabbed her stuff "Seeya Sir, have a good weekend" and with that she was gone, leaving Jack in her office, pondering over what she'd said, trying to think of just one time it had worked. And he couldn't. She was right. They weren't meant for a happy ending. In any world.
