The Entrance of Katrina

A cold winter wind blew across Edo. Everyone was inside besides Katrina—she wasn't allowed in. Her father, Matsue Hanasaki, said so. And if someone did something Matsue didn't like, they were probably drawing their last breath, even if they were his own daughter.

Katrina shivered and pulled her shirt tighter around her much-too-skinny frame. She hadn't eaten in days. Glancing around, she dashed inside and ran to her room, or as most would call it, a closet. It was much too small to lay down in, and if Katrina was any taller, she wouldn't even be able to curl up into a ball inside of it. She grabbed another shirt and ran back outside.

Suddenly, a pair of large hands grabbed her neck, making it hard for her to breathe. "What did I tell you about going inside?" she heard her father's gravelly voice yell. He dropped her to the ground. "A woman that doesn't follow orders is nothing more than a dog! You got that? A dirty dog!" Katrina could hear that her father's speech was slurred, meaning that he'd been drinking again.

She stood up, only to be slapped on the cheek. She shrank back in fear—her father had killed people when he was drunk. "Don't back away from me!" Matsue bellowed. Katrina obeyed, out of fear. Matsue punched her in the stomach.

Katrina dropped to the ground, gasping in pain. She curled up into a little ball, protecting her organs and such from her father's devastating blows. He pulled his sword out of its sheath and slashed her back.

Katrina screamed in agony. She stood up—against her mind and body's will—and ran inside again to the sword cabinet. She flung it open and picked her favorite blade, the largest sword in the cabinet, second largest in the world only to zanbatou.

She grabbed the sword and ran down the dirt road; she was running towards the local sword school--the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu Dojo. She stopped in front of the doors and walked up to them.

Good, bad, in-between, whatever!? Review! And tell me what you think. I know it's a huge cliche, but I couldn't think of anything else... And if you could tell me what needs work, that would be great!
