The Portal

Nuka ran!

Ran for his life!

Once again…

The wind ruffled his jet black, curly hair and his tattered black cardigan, along with his gray pants and formerly white, now gray t-shirt, making him shiver, while he, desperately trying to shake off his pursuers, but this time it didn`t seem to work.

For the past two weeks he's been running through what feels like all of Minecraftia, I hoping they would leave him alone but this thime they seemed really determined to catch him!

Maybe it was because he had fooled them too many times already.

Or maybe it was because of the new bounty on his head, which seemed to be really high because these hunts got more and more frequent.

Why was he even surprised?

After all, he was one of the most dangerous and wanted people in the world, as far as he knew, and had caused them more than enough trouble, so he was used to these hunts"

But he didn't have time to think about it now!

Although, the other ones were not so persistent.

He turned his head and his seagreen eyes widened with fear when he saw them approaching. Since they were on horseback and he was only on foot, it was only a matter of time before they caught up with him.

He couldn't let that happen!

Nuka took a deep breath and tried to teleport away, but due to his lack of sleep and also the lack of food over the past few days, he couldn't go more than 10 blocks, which wasn't nearly enough to shake off his pursuers.

He stumbled and fell, but immediately staggered to his feet and kept running, feeling desperation growing inside.

He had to find a hiding place where he could rest and regain his strength as soon as possible, because he couldn't keep this up much longer!

At that moment he saw the jungle!

Thank Goodness! He thought with relief They won't be able to get through the jungle with their horses, while I can dive well into it and finally escape!

Without hesitation, he veered off his path and ran toward the jungle when he heard someone yell, "There he is!"

Just a second after hearing this, two arrows shot past him and hit the tree in front of him.

Before more of them could come, Nuka had already disappeared into the jungle.

Oh, how he would have loved to find a hiding place there to sleep and regain his strength, but he knew he wasn't out of danger yet.

As if in confirmation, another arrow shot past Nuka, just missing.

Unfortunately, this did not apply to the following arrow, which hit his right leg, whereupon he cried out in pain and shortly afterwards collapsed!

A moment later he was lying panting in the undergrowth and desperately trying to get up again, but the pain in his leg was too strong and Nuka noticed his eyes slowly going black, which only made him panic even more!

He couldn't pass out now!

They would find him!

Nuka gritted his teeth and was about to try to get up again when he heard approaching voices.

"Did you catch him?"

"Maybe, judging by the scream, yes,. So he couldn't get far away. He has to be around here somewhere."
Nuka swallowed hard when he heard that.

What should he do now?

Nuka stopped trying to get up. Even if he did, with his injured leg and fading strength, he had no chance of escape. He had no choice but to surrender and hope they wouldn't treat him too badly.

He sighed, about to accept his fate, when he noticed something.

He looked up and indescribable joy and hope flared up in him again when he spotted a small dark cave entrance not 5 blocks away from him.

If I'm lucky and the cave is big enough, maybe I can hide from the them and regain my strength.

Encouraged by this thought, he tried to get up again and this time he succeeded, even though the pain had been terrible and was still raging inside him.

But Nuka didn't have time to worry about it any limped off without turning, grimacing in pain with every step, but forced himself to keep walking.

He couldn't give up now!

Just a few steps...he thought wearily, hissing in pain and struggling forward Just a few steps and I'm safe...

A few moments felt like an eternity. Nuka just reached the entrance of the cave when a shout rang out behind him, "There he is! He's going into the cave! Quick! Hurry up!"

Nuka cursed under his breath. That's exactly what he hoped to avoid! Now was not the time to get angry about this.

He had to go to the cave! Quickly!

With that thought, he disappeared into the cave as two more arrows shot past him and disappeared into the darkness in front of him.

As soon as he was in here, Nuka's breathing calmed.

Here he was in his element!

Although the cave was pitch black, he could see everything perfectly clear. The monsters in the cave turned to look at him, but paid no attention. And they were the only ones who could see him. It would be impossible for mere human pursuers to see him here without torches or other sources of light. His dark clothes blended with the shadow.

While he stood there and looked around attentively, Nuka realized with relief that he had been lucky with this cave.

Even though the entrance was small, the cave inside was large and spacious and even had several junctions that seemed to go deep down into the earth.

Nuka spontaneously chose the smallest and most inconspicuous one and slipped into it.

There didn't seem to be any monsters in this part of the cave and Nuka soon realized why.

Only a few blocks away he was already at a dead end.

Annoyed, he turned and hobbled back toward the exit to pick another turn when suddenly he heard voices from the main cave and saw saw glimmers of torch lights.

"He can't be far," he heard someone say in a firm, authoritative voice, "We'll split up. You four take the path. The three of us go this way and the rest go that way. Search for him! And if someone finds him, you know what to do. But be careful!"

Damned!thought Nuka as he retreated deeper into the protective shadows of the cave and he felt his heart start racing again! He was trapped!

He backed further into the cave as quietly and quickly as he could, while at the same time desperately searching for an escape route he might have overlooked before, when suddenly he heard a faint noise.

Not a normal cave sound but a sound Nuka had never heard before.

It sounded somehow mystical and mysterious.

But that didn't really matter to Nuka at the moment.

If there was a sound here, that meant there would be another room somewhere near him, and hopefully another cave he could escape through!

Nuka immediately began to search for the source of the noise and soon found that it appeared to be coming from behind a wall of gravel.

Nuka thanked the gods that this was not a solid stone wall that he couldn't have made his way through without a pickaxe. Quickly, he pushed away the gravel and his sea-green eyes flared with delight. There was another cave behind this!

He immediately crawled inside, but his joy turned to disappointment when he realized it was just another small room.

Just as he was about to get angry, he discovered something. A nether portal!

A real real nether portal just standing there making that weird noise that Nuka had heard through the wall before!

With wide eyes, Nuka stared at it with wonder and awe.

He had only seen things like this in books!

Why was it here?

And more importantly, why was it active?

Nuka slowly hobbled towards it and looked at it uncertainly.

Many Minecrafters knew that gates like this one lead to the Nether, but Nuka knows they didn`t like this place and actually feared it, so they would probably not enter, even to follow someone like Nuka.

So it was more than a perfect escape route for him, but he hesitated nonetheless.

He didn't know where this portal led, let alone who had activated it.

Who would just put a nether portal like that in a cave that nobody seems to have been in before and then fill in the only entrance to it without deactivating it first? He looked at the inviting entrance with confusionBesides, I've never been to the Nether. What if I get injured or die there because I don't know my way around? Or what if I even get lost and can't find a way out?

But before he could think about it further, he heard an excited voice.

"Sir! I found drops of blood! He must be this way!"

,,Awesome!", she answered another ,,He can't be far now! Come on!"

Fear shot up in Nuka. Turning, he uneasily stared at the gaping hole to the entrance, where he could now see the faint glow of torches. Rapid footsteps approached.

Now he had no choice.

He had to go through the portal if he didn't want to be caught.

No matter how much that thought worried him before.

Nuka sighed deeply. Turning back to the portal, he took a deep breath and, with one last fast glance to the main cave, disappeared through it.
