Look at me, writing again. It feels good! And welcome to my weird fanfics, Ace Attorney fans! I am one of you now! I cannot believe it took me so long to play these games but I love them to bits and I couldn't get this plot bunny out of my head. I imagine more are coming too; I've been getting intense feels for a certain attorney and his spirit medium friend/possibly more than a friend. ;)
I went looking for fics in this category and found nothing but romantic Phoenix and Miles hurt/comfort fics. And I don't really feel that ship. No judgment if you like it, you do you, but I wanted to see some platonic stuff. Plus the game is called Ace Attorney, and I think Miles Edgeworth is a good candidate for being the most ace attorney of all. So let's see what happens when he's stuck in an elevator with a variety of characters and how they individually manage to calm him down. These one-shots will not be simultaneously canon, since they have the same opening. But here is the opening to the fic to set the scene. I've already made some progress in the first one-shot so I should post it pretty soon.
Blackout
Hands shaking, palms sweating, his heart leaving his chest to pound somewhere in his throat... the way Miles Edgeworth's body was reacting, a sensible person would think he'd discovered a dead body or was a thousand feet in the air without a parachute.
Not so with him. He stared at the cold, metallic elevator doors as if they were leering at him, mocking him, daring him to press the button and walk directly into their gaping maw to be chewed up and swallowed.
It had always felt that way for him.
Every time be braved it, the same instinctive panic filled him and he would have to stop himself from running out the doors when the ride was over. Every time, he thought it would get easier, but it never did.
"You are a grown man," he chided himself under his breath. "This is getting ridiculous. It was one time, Miles Edgeworth. The odds of it happening again must be less than one percent." A tiny spark of curiosity awakened in him and he suddenly felt the desire to distract himself by trying to calculate his odds of experiencing the same trauma again, but he stopped himself. He was only wasting time standing in the hallway like an idiot.
A terrified idiot.
After an embarrassingly long time, he finally plucked up the nerve to press the button.
Ding!
He hated that sound. Some elevators made noises on every floor, but thankfully not this one. The ones that announced their impending arrival always exacerbated his anxiety and more than once he had made a beeline to the stairs before the doors opened.
Thankfully, he was still standing in front of the elevator when the doors finally opened. So far so good. Without giving himself time to overthink this, he walked directly into it and grabbed the pole in the back. He didn't know why elevators had them, unless his particular phobia was more common than he expected.
"Or," said a nasty voice in his head, "in case of natural disasters. Like earthquakes."
His breath caught in his throat at this thought, but he swallowed and forced it out of his head. No. He wasn't going to succumb this time. It wasn't until he turned around to press the button corresponding to his floor that he realized, with a small jolt of surprise, he was not alone.
Each chapter will be a different character. I will post the first one as soon as I can! I just wanted to force myself to continue this by posting it!
