He was not sure why he followed them.
Maybe he just wanted something to do, instead of just standing there in the musty old shop, forever dreaming of the past.
Maybe it was because they were starting down the path he and his brother had followed so long ago, and had paid so dearly for following. Maybe he did not want them to make the same mistakes, pay the same price.
Or maybe, he just wanted someone to care about. Maybe he just wanted a reason to live again.

The room was large, echoing and silent, filled with all sorts of old and rare objects.
The two of them sat there, on the floor of the dusty old shop, talking seriously in quiet voices, not realizing their entire conversation, and the many ones before it, had already been overheard.
"Are you sure?" she asked finally, "Everyone says Human Transmutation is impossible."
He would have responded, would have told her he was sure, but someone else, someone with a strangely echoing voice spoke first.
"Human transmutation is impossible."
The boy turned his head, surveying the room, trying to find the speaker, but no one was there.
His sister tugged at his sleeve, and pointed towards the darkest corner of the room.
"Nii-san," she whispered, "Nii-san, the armor is looking at me."
He stared in the direction she pointed and found himself looking into glowing red eyes that were not really eyes.
"Yeah," Al said softly, unable to feel it, but knowing that his metal fingers were gripping the silver pocket watch more tightly. Help me with this, Nii-san. "I'm looking at you."

Um...I have no idea where this came from. I was actually trying to write something else, but then it turned into this. Although I am not quite sure what this is, or what is going on, it seems like Al is the only one left for some reason. This will eventully become a full-fedgledAU story, but first I have to finish "Make me a promise". R/R, please!
