Buck and Wilma disembarked from the shuttle craft into the Federation launch bay and were greeted by Dr Huer and several other dignitaries.
"Wow" said Buck. "I am flattered but I would be even more impressed if I weren't so tired."
"We understand, we are just very glad to see you both" replied Huer. "Col Derring, we have made the preparations you requested, and they are ready for you both. I suggest that we convene in my office first thing tomorrow."
The next day Buck, Wilma, Drs Huer and Theopolis along with Cols Rose and Wayburn from the security directorate we are meeting in a soundproof room located next to Dr Huer's office.
"I felt it would be better to meet here as there is a suspicion that an operative of the Draconians has infiltrated the office. Since we cannot confirm this one way or the other, I feel it is prudent to take precautions" Huer began the meeting.
For the next several hours the group discussed various aspects of the situation. Was Draco looking to use Terrain air space to launch attacks on other colonies, was he looking to get a foot hold in this quadrant. Were they looking to conserve resources, were they looking for a short cut. Why bring Princess Ardala, was she being presented as the next ruler, did she come to reinforce her standing at home. Was she brought along to get her out of the way. Everyone had an opinion. At first Wilma wasn't saying much but she was soon fully participating. Buck, who wasn't really a member of the security directorate, sat back and watched and listened. Eventually Huer concluded the meeting.
"Draco and his entourage will be here tomorrow, and I feel we have a strong strategy for the negotiations. The gala will be in the evening and Captain Rogers you will not be attending correct." Huer said
"I will not be escorting the Princess at the gala, no." Buck said.
Wilma smiled. "Well, the Col is not pleased by Wilma is"
That evening as Buck and Wilma were relaxing in the unit they had been assigned when Buck mused. "What do you think Ardala would do if you and I showed up at this party together?"
Wilma looked at Buck and said, "Probably throw a tantrum."
"Yea, and after her hissy fit, she'll run to Daddy, right?"
"I agree but what purpose would that serve?"
"Well if we stir the pot and she runs to Daddy it would be interesting to see what Daddy does. I think it will tell us a lot about Draco's motivations."
Wilma sat up and looked at Buck. "I see 2 no 3 different outcomes. One he acquiesces to her probable demand to leave; two he tells her to be quiet or three he attempts to placate her"
"Right, if he tries to placate her, we will know that this project is important but not vital. If he sweeps out with Ardala, we know it really some type of ploy. And if he tells her to be quiet and behave herself then I am guessing what every he is after is pretty important to him."
"Brillant!"
