Hopelessly devoted to you

Summary: It was the first snow of the season when Naruto met Hinata at a homely café. He didn't make much of it, until a year later when they met again. His marriage has been a constant battle, especially with his wife's allegations and lack of empathy, and he finds himself slowly drifting into the arms of Hinata.

Every marriage has their ups and downs, is what twenty-four-year-old Uzumaki Naruto always believed. He loved his wife, but her constant allegation and bickering slowly pushed him away into the arms of a dainty girl named Hyuga Hinata.

Twenty-two-year-old Hinata always followed the golden rule: Do onto others as you would like them to do onto you. She never once imagined herself being involved with a married man, but Naruto does something to her that makes her disregard her very beliefs.

Where did it all go wrong?

The first snow of the season stormed Konoha unexpectedly late that afternoon. Many people stood on the sidelines as they watched the snowflakes fall to the ground and infused with the grimes and dirt. They were prepared as it was announced some time ago, but they just didn't know when.

The people quickly got over it and continued with their lives. One man, who stood out from the rest, shivered uncontrollably while he walked down the sidewalk.

He quickly turned into a bakery shop and let the warmness embrace him. The fresh scent of brew coffee enticed his nostrils and the smell of freshly baked bread wrapped itself around him.

"Good afternoon, sir," He opened his eyes and glanced around the homely bakery that was empty. "You seem a little cold,"

His deep blue eyes lingered to the shorter girl behind the counter who smiled shyly at him. The sound of his shoes tapped against the wooden floor and he made his way to the counter. The shy girl looked away briefly, but she smiled softly. "The snow finally came down today, huh? I bet it was a day you decided not to bring your sweater or snow boots." The man let a slight chuckle escape his lips which startled the girl momentarily before she cracked a smile. "Would you like a complimentary coffee to warm you up?"

"I suppose," He let out a sigh, "Although, I didn't expect it to snow today."

The girl turned her back on the young man while she fixed him a cup of coffee. "Well, they did say to be prepared."

"I know." He leaned over the counter and sighed once more.

"Here you go," The young woman said, handing him a cup of coffee. "If it makes you feel better, I forgot mine too."

He hummed. "That does make me feel a little better." He wrapped his hands around the warm cup. "What do you recommend?" He asked, looking over the menu.

"It depends," She smiled, "do you have a sweet tooth?"

The man looked over her and his playful eyes twinkled. "I do,"

"Then I recommend a cinnamon roll,"

"I'll take one," He took out some change before he sat down on the wooden stool that faced the window. There were a lot of people out doing this time trying to get home to their family and enjoy the first snow of the season. Home is where he should have been, but he couldn't. Some words were said the night before, and he didn't want to face his wife, not yet. Words spewed out her mouth like venom that made him feel less of a man. His grip tightened around the coffee mug and the heat burned him slightly. He glanced over his broad shoulder and he watched the woman, who hummed as if she was in a trance.

She smiled sweetly when she was able to pull the gooey cinnamon roll from the paper sheet. He quickly turned his head around and blew the coffee before drinking it. The fresh brew of hazel nuts filled his nose, and he closed his eyes. He wasn't a fan of coffee, and probably would never be, but it made his body feel warm and light.

"Here you go," The plate made a clacking sound as she tried to gently rest it on the brown counter.

"Thank you," He replied, opening his eyes. The cinnamon roll smelt delicious and the fragrance of fresh cinnamon danced around him. The white sticky substances wrapped itself around the brown cooked dough and the cinnamon sprinkled on top glistened.

"I hope you enjoy it," She returned to her station and wiped the countertop.

The young man didn't say anything. He continued to drink the coffee before he slid the metal fork between the roll splitting it in half. A slight steam came from the middle and he gripped a small piece off and placed it on his tongue.

Words couldn't describe the sensation he felt as the sugary goodness fueled his body. He licked his bottom lips trying to savor the taste of the frosting that stuck to his lip. The cinnamon roll was consumed in under a minute.

He felt her big eyes watching him and he couldn't help but smile. Females always wanted somebody to compliment them, whether it be for dressing more seductively, a new hairdo, or simply adding a different seasoning to a common cooked meal. A compliment was something that motivated them and pushed them to do their best.

They always surrounded themselves around him and at first, he was clueless. He didn't understand what they wanted or why they acted the way they did, but he had a little bit more knowledge than his teenage self.

"Do you own this café?" He inquired while taking sips from the now lukewarm coffee.

There was a moment of silence. "Not yet, but hopefully I'll be able to buy it from the owner." There was something about her voice that made him cooed. It was soft and gentle, and there was warmth behind it.

"I see," He said standing up. He gave her the plate and mug. "Did you make the cinnamon roll?"

She nodded. "I did. It's one of my specialties," She boasted.

He cracked a smile. "I enjoyed it. There was something fluffy about it that melted in my mouth like a cotton candy."

Her eyes beamed by the compliment he was showering her with. "I'm still learning," Her head lowered, "but I'll get better ten folds!"

Her sudden outburst made him chuckle. "Good luck," He bowed slightly. "Take care,"

"Stay safe, sir."

The man left without a word out into the cold snowy city. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she watched the man leave.

"Was that a customer, Hinata?"

The young woman known as Hinata turned around and nodded. "Yeah, and he was kind of cute," She smiled warmly.

The older girl's eyes widened as this was her first time hearing her co-worker call a customer cute. "Did you get his name?"

There was a disappointment that sat on her face and she shook her head. "No, but hopefully he'll come back."

Inside the warm house, he stumbled slightly as he tried to dodge the shoe that was thrown at him.

"Where were you, Naruto?"

He looked over his shoulder when he heard something smashed on the tiled floor. It was a vase his wife's parents had given to them as a housewarming gift. Cheap bastards. A vase he could have find at the fucking dollar store, and they decided to get it for them. They had money; they were worth a lot but my god! They were so fucking cheap.

"I stopped for some coffee, Sakura," He replied, pulling off his necktie.

"You don't even like coffee," She crossed her arms.

He never knew why she acted like this. He had been a player during his teenage life, but when he got into a relationship, he was always serious. He never cheated, didn't think about it, and didn't need to. The woman was insecure and even though she constantly accused him of cheating, he loved her, but this was getting annoying.

Strong arms wrapped around her petite frame and she cussed a storm when he threw her on the bed. "Naruto, you bastard!" She shouted. He muffled her screeching with his lips and she quickly calm down. He bit down on her neck, slightly irritating her pale skin.

Sakura's eyes closed slowly, and she allowed her husband to ravish her body. "I love you," He nibbled on her earlobe and she embraced him tightly, inhaling his scent she'd come to love.

"I love you too," She hugged him tighter. Those words did something to her, and she loved every bit of it. She loved when he showered her with compliments, told her how beautiful she was and only had eyes set for her. He was lucky to have a woman like her in his life. She had seen everything; his highs and lows, what he wanted in life, his struggles and accomplishments. She was there every step of the way and made sure of it.

Deep cerulean eyes stared into her deep loving jade eyes. "Is your period still on?"

She groaned. "Yes," A small pout formed.

"That's too bad," He hanged his head down. She felt something hard pressed against her crotch and even after all these years he managed to make her blush like a damn schoolgirl.

The ceiling came in view as he rolled off her. His wife was a beauty and had her shy moments, but he was still irritated by her. Those words really cut deep into him and he almost questioned his manhood and loyalty. She drove him insane at times and he wanted nothing more than to sew her lips shut.

He stifled a laugh and she glared at him. "What's so funny?"

He shook his head as he continued to stare at the ceiling. "Nothing," He paused, "did you get to cook today?" Of course, he already knew the answer to that. No. He knew this about her. The woman was terrible at cooking, but he would eat anything made by her because of the love he had for his wife.

He did offer to pay for her cooking class, but the woman was stubborn and wanted to do things by herself.

"Take out?" She smiled nervously.

"I suppose," He got off the bed and stepped into the bathroom to take a long relaxing hot shower.

Sakura took out her cell phone and dialed the number to Ichiraku Ramen. She was never good at cooking, and hell! She hated it. Why did a woman have to subject themselves to cater to a man? She already gave him her body, why did she have to spend hours in a hot kitchen preparing him supper? She frowned. It's not like he was going to like her cooking anyway.

Naruto held her tightly as she slept soundly besides him. The smell of her shampoo was upsetting his stomach, so he let go of her and turned the opposite way.

He loved her. He really did. It's what he kept telling himself for the past year, but he didn't know what he wanted- not anymore. He hated feeling confused because he knew he loved her, but part of him hated her. Naruto hated her for making him feel this way, hated her for saying something so selfish, hated her for not doing her role. He just hated her, yet he loved her so much and didn't want to lose her.

The two were friends in high school and he always joked about making her his wife. She didn't believe him, but she was his ride and die. She had her separate relationships and he had his, but they were always drawn to one another. Of course, they didn't do anything while in a relationship with their respective partners, but once they were done with them, the two came together and would be inseparable.

He finally fell asleep after a long night of overthinking.

Time had changed and nightfall came quicker. The snow was heavier than ever, covering most of Konoha in white. Some cars were stuck or buried under it, and there were even a few accidents earlier that morning.

"Ah, it's so cold," The young woman, Hinata, said while she shivered slightly. She had on a white winter coat, and brown snow boots, and lavender earmuffs, but she still felt cold. The comfort of her bed was calling out to her and she wanted to quickly reach home to wrap herself in her warm blanket that was given to her by her late grandmother.

A sharp yelp escaped her lips as she slid on the ground and fell forward in the snow. "Ow, ow, ow," She cried, brushing the snow off her face. She glanced behind her and saw the ice that caused her to slip. While she was getting up, she noticed a young man, who had his head down, approaching her. "Sir!" She warned. "Be careful! The ground is slippery!"

The young man looked up swiftly by the known voice, but before he could say something a quick, "Eep!" escaped his mouth and he slid forward landing on the youngster.

Hinata closed her eyes tightly as this was her fourth time falling today on the cold snowy ground. "I'm sorry," The man said as he got up slowly. "I should have been more observant," He helped her and dusted the snow from her coat. "I see you've got your snow gear," He smiled warmly once noticing who it was.

Hinata felt her legs tremble and she nodded. "Yes, although I'm still cold." Her lips turned into a slight frown. "You remembered your snow gear too," She giggled. "But where are your earmuffs?" She noticed the man's ears were red at the tip.

"I can't find them," He shrugged.

Hinata dug through her bag and pulled out a pair of black ear muffins. "I always carry two just in case," She leaned on her tippy toes and placed the earmuffs on him. "Now your outfit is complete,"

"This is your second time saving me," He was grateful for her generosity. "You're very kind, huh?" The two walked side by side as they were heading in the same direction.

She made the cutest facial expression as she thought deeply about it. "I would like somebody to do the same for me," Her lips curled upwards.

Naruto nodded in agreement. "I couldn't agree more. What's your name?"

"Ah, I'm so sorry. How rude of me." She turned a darker shade of red. "My name is Hinata, Hyuga Hinata," She mumbled.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Hinata," Naruto turned to face her, and he held out his left hand to shake hers. "My name is Naruto, Uzumaki Naruto," She took his hands, that was covered in an orange mitten and shook it shyly.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too," There was another brief silence until she stopped. "Um, well this is my stop," She said standing by a different alley way.

"Would you like me to walk you home?" Naruto would never want his wife walking home by herself, so he couldn't allow her to walk on her own. There were some strange people in this world, who had a weird fixation on killing people. He remembered reading an article where a young man was murdered in a park and the killer was never caught!

And he had to admit she was a beautiful creature. There was something intriguing about her face and it wasn't her pupil-less eyes, but her face still had a little baby fat left, and it captured her innocence. Her eyes were round, and she had thick eyelashes that folded. Then there were her lips, they looked so nice and plump.

"It's okay. I don't want to be a burden," She whispered.

"You won't be. I wouldn't want my wife walking by herself knowing what kind of crazy people are out there." He fanned her off.

"Oh," It wasn't the word she wanted to hear, and she sighed silently in disappointment. Of course, he would be married. He was so good looking and charming. She almost envied the person that caught Naruto's attention. She wondered if the woman looked just as pretty as him. "But I don't want you to get in trouble with your wife," She knew all too well how some women were when it came to their husbands and another female. It was something she learned during her last year of high school. She was just a schoolgirl when she was approached by a man's wife. They had been talking to each other sometime, and never knew he was married. She was surprised when she was confronted at a local train station.

And she was respectful. Her motto was the golden rule: Do onto others as you would like them to do onto you. And she stuck with it. There was no way she would be put in that situation because she could only imagine how that woman would feel. She had watched to many shows on a cheating husband and how their wife had to suffer greatly for it. She was disappointed because she admired the man, but oh well. It was better to know now than later.

"My wife will be fine. She would probably kill me if I allowed a woman to walk by herself," He laughed in his mind. It was the opposite. He could just hear her now.

"Why couldn't she walk by herself?"

"Why do you have to be such a nice guy! You're probably fucking her!"

"Don't touch me! Go fuck your whore, you dickless bitch!"

Hinata eyed him and she shrugged. She allowed him to walk her to her apartment complex that was only a three-minute walk. She turned around once she reached there and waved at him. "Thank you, Naruto."

"Maybe I'll stop for some more of your cinnamon rolls," He said. "Please take care of yourself,"

Hinata watched as he walked away and disappear behind the corner. It wasn't every day you find a guy who was willing to walk you to your apartment without expecting something in return. "His wife sure is lucky," She whispered.

The sweat glistened off their bodies and she wrapped herself around him, cuddling him. Sex was amazing because it was the only time he was the conqueror in the relationship. She always had to take charge, but during these times she was under his spell.

"What took you so long?" She asked as she traced around his belly button.

"Paperwork," Naruto mumbled. He couldn't possibly tell her he was walking another woman home because he didn't want to ruin this moment. The woman was in a good mood when he came home and even attempted to cook. The food wasn't a five-star meal, but he appreciated it because she rarely cooked. He loved when his wife was happy because it made their home bearable and he didn't mind coming home.

"Oh," She frowned. "I love you,"

He glanced at her and smiled. "I love you too,"

The two cuddled with one another and she smiled sweetly. "Ne, Naruto," She said softly.

"Yes, Sakura?"

"I stopped taking my birth control a week ago. I think we should start trying,"

His crystal blue eyes searched into her jaded eyes and his heart thump. He always brought up having children with her, but Sakura always shy away from the subject or told him that they needed to get their life in order before thinking about bringing another life in this world. Naruto had always wanted a family ever since his parents died in a car accident when he was twelve. He was ecstatic that Sakura had a change of heart.

"Are you serious?" Deep down, he also believed this would also improve their relationship as a couple.

She nodded slowly and her face turned a shade of pink. Her long slender finger glided on his hard pecks and she leaned in and kissed Naruto's lips. "Shall we start over?" She whispered seductively in his ear.

The blond man grinned, and he climbed on top of her. "Shall we?"

A new morning had approached, and the bakery was as slow as ever. Hinata watched as the people passed by, and she looked over her shoulder when she saw her co-worker, Ino taking out the fresh made bread. "He's married," Hinata sighed.

Hinata had finally decided to tell her the story about the handsome man since Ino had been pestering her about it.

"Awe," Ino sounded remorseful, "but it's better to know now and at least he told you so you wouldn't get any ideas. That was admirable on his part,"

"Yeah, I know and besides, I wouldn't do that with a married man,"

"I know you won't. You're too sweet and innocent," She said attacking the younger girl's cheek. "Has he been here since?"

"No."

Hinata pouted when Ino pinched her cheeks playfully and she tried to push the girl off. Ino rubbed her on the top of her head and smiled. "I'm going to take a quick break. Do you want something while I'm out?"

"Chicken tempura," Hinata smiled. "Please."

Ino nodded quickly as she stepped into the back room. "I'll be back," She said as she walked through the singular door. Hinata watched as her friend walked past the window.

It was a little slower today. It was usually like that on Tuesdays. Slow day. Slow business. She placed her elbows on the countertop and sighed. "What can I do to make more customers come in?"

Hinata quickly fixed her posture when she heard the bell sound. "G- Naruto!" She said with excitement. It had almost been a month since she had last seen the man. He was smiling brightly as he approached her.

"It's been a long time, Hinata,"

Hinata quickly lowered her head as she tried to conceal her blush. "What brings you in today?"

"Well, I did say I would stop by for some more of your cinnamon rolls," He expressed.

Hinata quickly nodded and she took out the newest batch. "You seem more cheerier," She said placing the cinnamon roll on a plate.

"Hmm, I do?" He hummed.

He sat on the bar stool and waited for Hinata to bring him the sugary goodness. She placed the plate in front of him and was about to head back to her stationed when he beckoned her to sit next to him.

"I feel like you have some exciting news." Hinata sat on top of the stool. "Spill it,"

He ripped apart at the cinnamon roll. "After two years of asking to start a family, my wife has finally agreed it's time to start one."

Hinata smiled brightly. She loved babies as much as she loved cinnamon rolls. Her heart did hurt just a little because she had developed a little admiration for him, but she was always excited to hear somebody starting their very own family.

Naruto didn't know why, but he had to tell her. He was excited and she had been the first person he had told this news to. The girl seemed very please as she clasped her hands together and gave him a genuine smile.

"That's good news!"

Naruto grinned. "You're the first person I've told, so let's keep this a secret between the two of us," He said placing his index finger on his lips.

Hinata giggled softly. "Of course, I can't wait to see the little bundles of joy."

"Thank you, but how have you been?" He ate some of the frosting. "I noticed you looked a little down when I saw you through the window."

Hinata backed hunched a little. "Oh," She paused, "Business has been slow lately, especially on Tuesdays and I just wanted to know how I can fix it," She frowned. "This shop means a lot to me, but-

Ah, who was she to tell Naruto all of this?

"Ah," Naruto looked around and grinned. "There are always ways you can improve,"

"How?" She pouted.

"Well, you can start by repainting the letters on the window," Naruto said as he looked at the chipped painting on the window. Hinata glanced at it and rubbed the back of her head.

"To be honest, this is my first time noticing that." She looked down at her lap.

Naruto blinked before he let out a hearty laugh. "Why don't you start by decorating your store window?" He suggested. "Also, it's cold outside. Why don't you carry a sample tray of coffee outside and hand it out to people that pass by?"

Hinata had never thought about it before, but it sounded like a good idea. "That doesn't sound too bad, but I'll need somebody cute,"

"Why don't you do it? You're cute,"

Hinata's face turned cheery red and she quickly turn around. "N-Naruto, you shouldn't say those type of things," She held her face.

Naruto frowned, "But it's true," He whispered. "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," He smiled. "I should head out," He stood up. "It was nice meeting you again, Hinata."

Hinata also stood up and she never really knew how much taller he was than her. The two stared into each other's eyes momentarily and her heart trembled. "L-likewise!" She scurried behind the counter. Naruto gave her what he owed and placed what was left from his change into their tip jar.

.

.

.

Sakura smiled sweetly at Naruto as she stroked through his golden hair. Ever since she made the announcement that she wanted to conceive, she always pictured how their first child would look. Maybe he would have yellow hair and blue eyes like his father? Or would he come out with her features?

"I love you," She whispered softly.

He stirred in his sleep and he shined. "I love you too,"

It was fate and she always knew they were meant to be. They had elementary school, middle school, and high school together and they always ended up in the same class. It was she who approached Naruto in middle school when she noticed they always ended up in the same class and ever since the two were inseparable.

Like most relationships, they had their ups and downs. Naruto did things that irritated her and he never understood what he did wrong. For instances, staring at another woman, who would pass by, or flirting unknowingly with their server or cashier. Women were always a big hurdle in their relationship. They always flocked around him, and they stayed there even after they found out he was married. She always felt like he was entertaining it and that pissed her off.

Of course, he didn't see anything wrong with it and he always told her that he couldn't control what other people do or how they felt. Naruto was honest when he told her about the girls at his job or how they would always come on to him.

It was hard to believe that he never did anything with them or flirted back. They even had the nerve to call in late at night!

Let's just say, they never did that anymore. She shook her head because she felt her blood boiled as she thought about it.

"Naruto," She called out. It was time they start getting ready to meet her parents for dinner.

Sakura knew deep down the man did not want to meet with her parents. Naruto made it known that he did not like her parents, and she understood some reasons to it. Her parents always wanted best for her, and they did not like the idea she was with Naruto.

They referred to him as a leech. Her father was furious when he found out they were dating, but he figured like all teens they would break up. That was not the case.

Naruto had to prove to her father that he was good enough for Sakura, and although he tried her father always expressed that he would never be.

Despite all of that, Sakura loved Naruto so much, and she said yes to Naruto's proposal regardless of her parent's blessing.

.

.

.

Naruto knew they had to make the announcement sooner than later, but he hated his wife's parents. He wanted to believe after all these years that they would see his love for their daughter and how much he had improved, but they never did. They always wore that cocky and smudge look on their face every time he showed up.

He knew they spoke ill of him with their other family members, and they always threw sly remarks at him.

There was a time that he wasn't all that great, but he was learning how to improve himself as not only a man but as a husband and a soon to be father.

He stood behind Sakura, who embraced her mother. The woman barely showed any emotion and didn't even so much return the hug. Mebuki wasn't always like this. Before he and Sakura even started dating, she was always affectionate to her only child, but that all changed when they started seeing one another.

He had brought it up countless of times to Sakura and express how it wasn't fair for them to treat her or him this way, but she brushed it off and always said, "They'll accept it sooner or later,"

His wife could be so irritating. Don't get him wrong, he knew with all his heart that they loved their daughter just as much as they loved their money. She was there only child and they did a lot in raising her.

She was spoiled, but they made sure she had the best upbringing. Sakura was not only beautiful, but she was smart, extremely smart. She played a few sports, track being her favorite, and even took karate classes. She could sing, and not to mentioned she played the violin. She was a dedicated worker in the health field, and that's what made him fell head over heels with her. Sakura was just simply, amazing.

Just thinking about her accomplishment made him smile. She was such an achiever, and she even motivated him to do his best.

"Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Haruno," Naruto said, bowing slightly.

"Good evening," Kizashi grumbled. He stepped to the side allowing Naruto to enter the house.

"What's for dinner, mother?" Sakura said, following the woman into the dining room.

"Walter has prepared a well-balanced dinner, that isn't ramen," She said, sitting down promptly. "I assume you're still eating it?" She raised her eyebrow at Naruto.

"Yes, ma'am. There's no problem with eating ramen every once in a while," Naruto said, pulling the seat out for Sakura. "Maybe I can take you out for dinner? I know a good spot,"

Sakura could sense the sarcasm coming from Naruto and punched him on his thigh.

Kizashi cleared his throat, getting Sakura's attention. "Sakura, you mentioned you had some news you wanted to share?"

Sakura glanced at Naruto, who nodded. "Yes, Naruto and I have decided that now is the time to start our very own family,"

Mebuki's lips twitched and she closed her eyes. "What wonderful news," She couldn't even fake her happiness and Naruto flinched.

He already knew that they wouldn't be too excited and wanted to hold off until Sakura was actually pregnant, but the woman wanted to let her parents know right away.

"I see." Kizashi said, wiping his lips. "Shall we continue eating?"

Sakura still had a huge smile on her face, and she nodded eagerly.

Naruto was quite sad by her wife's reaction and he almost felt bad for ruining her relationship with them, but he loved Sakura so much but still. He wondered if his parents would be the same if they were still alive.

.

.

.

Days went by week after week, and months flew by, and Naruto always looked to Sakura for some news, but she always shook her head. Every chance they got, especially when she ovulated, they went at it, but still there was no sign and the pregnancy test always came out negative.

Sakura was becoming frustrated and felt discourage, although she tried not to be. She was a nurse and knew that some couples didn't have any signs until six months to a year, but it was becoming tiresome. Sex just felt like something they had to do, and there wasn't any pleasure in that. Of course, it was for a good cause and she was hopeful that she would be seeing some signs sooner than later.

Then just when they thought it had finally happened, it was a false alarm.

Naruto understood Sakura was becoming frustrated and she would just lay there from time to time without initiating anything. It almost felt like an obsession and a constant question, "Any news?"

He hated what it was doing to them, and he decided to take it slow. It would be in due time, right? So, he'd shower her with gifts, and send flowers to her job.

The woman enjoyed the attention she was receiving from her husband and it made her feel just a little better.

One night, while in bed Sakura introduced seeking a urologist.

"Why do we have to see a specialist?" Naruto frowned at the thought of it. "There's nothing wrong with us,"

"I know, but it's almost been a year and there haven't been any signs. I think we should really consider this, Naruto."

The blonde man stared up at the ceiling and let out a disgruntled sigh. "Are you going to check with a specialist too?"

"I've already done my testing, Naruto," Sakura replied.

Naruto jumped up and stared at her. "Do you think something is wrong with me?" His voice shook slightly.

"No, no!" Sakura shook her head. "I don't think anything is wrong with you," She said, getting off the bed and approaching her husband. She wrapped her arms around his waist and stared passionately in his eyes. "I did the test during my annual pap smear, and I think it's only fair you go about doing it."

"But there's nothing wrong with me. You know these things can take a while," He frowned.

"I understand that, Naruto but we've been trying, and it'll be best to make an appointment with one to see what's going on. It can be something simple and easily fixed."

Naruto looked down at her and sighed, "Fine," He gave in.

She went on her tiptoes and he leaned over, pecking her on the lips. "I love you," Sakura said.

"I love you too."

.

.

.

After a week of setting the appointment, taking blood work, and going through questions that felt like an interrogation, the Uzumaki's were waiting in Dr. Yakushi's office. Naruto tapped his feet impatiently on the floor and he glanced around the office. There were photos of the human reproductive systems, and even models, and for some reason that put him on the edge of his seat.

Ever since Sakura suggested they go to a specialist, he was worried. He knew some people who didn't get pregnant until two years of trying, and they didn't need to see a specialist.

He was not only anxious, but exhausted because of the testing they had to do.

The doctor closed the door behind him and sat on the chair facing the couple. The couple stared at him, anxiously, waiting for him to discuss what he discovered. "After running some test, the test results came back, and it seems that you're infertile, Mr. Uzumaki."

Naruto eyes widened slightly. "Excuse me? What are you trying to say?" His voice trembled. "Are you trying to tell me all this time I've been shooting blanks?" Naruto's voice grew louder, and he felt his body shake.

"You have what is known as non-obstructive azoospermia. It's a condition where there are no sperms in your ejaculate and is a form of infertility."

Naruto's face turned red and he was trying to comprehend everything being said to him.

"Is it possible to treat it?" asked Sakura.

"We can try a treatment known as follicle-stimulating hormone, but-"

"Wait, wait, wait!" Naruto said, standing up. "It's me? I'm the reason we can't have children."

"Naruto," Sakura started. "Sit down so we can-

"No!" Naruto shouted. "I demand you retest me! There's no way I'm fucking shooting blanks."

"Naruto!" Sakura said, standing up. "I am so sorry, doctor." She bowed at the man.

"I understand your frustration, Naruto."

"Oh, do you really? Do you have children? Are you shooting out blanks?" Naruto raised his voice. "Because the picture says so otherwise." He said, pointing to the pictures of him and his children.

"Naruto, Dr. Yakushi is trying to help us. Please stop being rude."

"Sakura, let's go!" Naruto demanded. "I want a second opinion, now." He said, storming out of the office.

A soft sigh escaped her lips and she apologized profusely at the doctor. He held his hand in defense and smiled, warily. "It's okay. He's just frustrated, Sakura. Don't be overbearing during this time. He's going to need your love and support."

She nodded slowly before leaving the doctor's office.

Naruto was in defeat and he spent his time locked inside the bedroom once he got the opinion of a second urologist who said the same thing. It was he who was unable to reproduce, and now he would never get to experience the ultimate gift he could give his lover.

He pleaded with Sakura not to tell anyone about his situation. He couldn't handle anyone whispering behind his back and pitying him. She promised she wouldn't and would do her best to comfort him, but he was unresponsive.

A year had past and their relationship wasn't bad, nor was it where he wanted it to be. She spent more time at the hospital she worked at, and even did overtime and who could blame her? He still had a hard time coping with his infertility and was giving off a depressive vibe.

He had done away with some reports and was leaving the office when he received a call from Sakura. Another late night, and that meant he would be by himself until early morning. He groaned inwardly as he longed for her touch, her love, her.

While walking down the pavement, Naruto looked up at the gray sky and he closed his eyes as the snowflakes fell on to his skin before they melted. He didn't know how long he was there, but he just stood there, thinking, thinking about what he could do differently.

His heart still ached when realizing it was because of him he couldn't have children, but there were still options and treatments he could try. It may take some time, money, and possibly even tears but it was worth the shot, right?

"Naruto?"

It was an angelic voice that called his name, and he gazed at the figure approaching him.

"Hinata?"

"It's been such a long time since I've seen you."

Naruto nodded. "It has been." He said, scratching the back of his head. "Almost a year now, huh?

"Yes. It's that time of the year, huh?" She said, holding out her hand and catching the snowflakes.

"Ah, you're right. We did meet during the first snow of the season." He smiled, faintly. "How is the shop coming along?"

There was a disappointing look on her face, and she sighed. "Business wasn't doing too well, but we're still hanging in there."

"I'm sorry to hear that. I suppose none of my ideas worked?"

"It did help!" Hinata squeaked. "But she didn't keep up with it, and it went back to the same thing." She looked down sadly.

"I'm sorry. Hey, let's get out of this cold and get something warm to drink." Naruto suggested.

Hinata nodded and she walked next to the man until they reached an open café. They sat down and waited for their order.

"Oh, how are you and your wife? I knew you told me you were trying for a baby. How did that go?" Hinata said, pulling off the fluffy jacket.

Naruto's eyes shifted to the table, and Hinata noticed how quiet he had gotten. "She's fine," He mumbled. "Seems we won't be having children anytime soon."

Hinata gasped. "I hope everything is okay." There was a painful look in his eyes when he looked at her.

"Yeah. We're just going to have to wait until."

Hinata nodded. "I'm sure everything will be alright," She said, placing her hand on the top of his.

He couldn't explain it, but her simple touch shocked his entire body. He stared at her small pale hand and she quickly pulled it back.

"I'm sorry," She mumbled, looking down at the table.

"It's okay," There was a relief when she moved her hand, but it almost felt like there was a missing piece there.

The waitress placed their orders in front of them, and they thanked her.

"Did you just get off of work?" Naruto asked, sipping occasionally on the green tea.

"No. I had classes today."

"You're in school?"

"Yes, college classes," She quickly added. She knew she looked young, and a lot of people mistook her for a high schooler.

He sighed in relief, and he suddenly laughed. "What are you majoring in?"

"Culinary!" She replied passionately. "I want to open up my own bakery one day. I've been cooking ever since I was young, but for some reason baking makes me so excited,"

Naruto noticed the way her eyes lit up when she spoke about baking goods, and even cooking. It was so cute, and he nodded to let her know he was still listening. "I'm sorry, I didn't ask what you did,"

"It's okay, it's always good to hear someone else talk rather than me," He chuckled. "I have a degree in marketing,"

"That's nice,"

Naruto laughed once more which made Hinata blushed. "I know it sounds boring, but I really enjoy it."

He couldn't remember the last time he'd managed to laugh like this. It was true and genuine and it made him forget about his woes and worries for the time being.

"Maybe I can help you get more business one of these days," Naruto said, drinking the rest of the green tea that turned lukewarm.

Hinata pouted. "How do I know I'll actually get to see you again?"

Naruto's eyes studied her face, and she had gotten even more prettier than the last time he saw her. Her baby fat was gone, and her face gave off a smooth V shape, but her cheeks still looked pinchable, and the way her lips turned into a cute pout made her irresistible. He swallowed the lump in his throat. He could hear his wife nagging in his head now for looking at another woman.

"Are you okay, Naruto?"

He nodded slowly. "Yes, I'm fine. Why don't we exchange numbers? I know sometimes I can be a little busy because of work, but just text me anytime so we can discuss it,"

"Sure," Hinata said, putting his phone number in her phone.

"Don't hesitate," Naruto said, getting up. "Are you heading home?"

"Um- yes, yes I am,"

"I'll walk you there," He said, leaving the money on the table.

"I can pay you back,"

"It's okay," Naruto reassured her. "I got it."

"T-thank you,"

Maybe this would have never happened if his wife didn't act the way she did that night. Maybe if he had just gone straight home instead of going to that bakery that he would have never been in this predicament.

Or just maybe, it would have happened either way.
